Negative space is the space surrounding the main subject in a picture. In the cut out I found the negative space by looking at the two different colors. And for the drawing I knew that the negative space had to be everything around the table, the stools and the plant. Artist use negative space because it helps them see things that are usually hard to see. Negative space is useful when making art because it helps artist because it helps when drawing very detailed things and it helps make the art more pleasing.

    A. What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it)
Negative space is the space around an object in a picture. Is usually colored in black or white based on what the picture is.
    B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out?, 2. in your stool drawing?
So in the first picture the negative space is purple. I found it by having it as a background and used a temple to cut out the house and parts I needed. In the second picture i started by coloring in the page then erasing the chair, table and plant. So I found the negative space around the the those things which is the gray area.
    C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?
It teaches patients because negative space drawings take a long time to make
    D. How is negative space useful in creating art?
It shows you the balance between the picture and the parts of the picture that should standout and catch your eye immediately.

    A. What is negative space?

Negative space is the part of a drawing or photograph that surrounds an object. It helps to highlight the image and draw attention to multiple parts of it, in a way that makes it look simple. Negative spaces lets you see the outline of the

    B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out?, 2. in your stool drawing?

    1. In my cutout, I was able to find the negative space by looking at the stencil and identifying the two different colors. Based on those colors, I could see that the white shapes were the negative space and the dark grey areas were the objects. This helped me figure out what I should cut and how it compares/fits in with the other spaces.

    2. In my stool drawing, I found the negative space by looking at the things behind the still life. This made it so that I was able to focus on the outline of the shapes. I shaded in the space that wasn’t part of the main objects in the drawing, which is the negative space.

    C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?

It helps an artist to see in negative space because it adds depth to the drawing or photograph. You get to see some parts of the drawing that you wouldn’t usually be looking at.

    D. How is negative space useful in creating art?

When creating art, you can do some very creative techniques with negative space to add depth and interesting aspects to your drawing. One thing that an artist can do is utilize the negative space to make the viewer see multiple images in the drawing.

Negative space is basically the area behind an object in a picture of piece of artwork. This includes anything above, below, and on the sides of the object(s) you are looking at.
I found negative space in my "Cut Out" by first identifying the object I was looking at. The objects are a house with a fence and clouds in the sky. Only half of the paper was done at a time (left and right). On the paper, before cutting and tracing, was two separate colors (light gray and dark gray). The dark gray color covered all the objects I was looking at (the house, fence, and clouds). The insides of the windows of the house were also dark gray, along with other details of the house. All of the light gray area was the negative space. After cutting and tracing, the colors changed for negative space on two different sides. The negative space is now blue on the left side and one the right it is light green.
I found negative space in my "Stool Drawing" after I identified the objects that I was looking at. The objects are a table, two stools (one on top of another), a plant, and a chord hanging from the ceiling. First, I took a white piece of paper and shaded it completely with a pencil. I then took my eraser and erased any part of the objects that i saw until they were white like the paper before shading. Now I can tell the objects from the non-objects. The non-objects are the negative space, which is the shaded part of the paper.
It helps an artist to see in negative space because I believe it makes it easier to shape the object they are trying to create. It is useful in creating art by being a short cut. When I say this I mean it can help others who are not proud of their drawing skills. This is one way you don't need to know how to draw to complete.

    1) What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it)
1)It is the area around the main object.

    2) Explain how you found negative space in A. your cut out?, B. in your stool drawing?
2a) I used the bigger part of the bird to create the negative space.
2b) I shade the outline of the table and stool to create the positive space.

    3) Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?
    3) It helps because it defines the positive space.

    4) How is negative space useful in creating art?
    4) It is a great way to define objects.
