Brownlee, Niyala, Music-Culture-Flag

Posted by Niyala Brownlee in Physics - Echols on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 1:01 pm

My life revoles around different cultures and music so my circuit shows that. the bottom right is a red music note, then the world, then a star. Its sort of shaped like a flag. I made the battery so it would look like the buttons on an mp3 player. also you put the wire in that makes it light up. (plug it in like an earphone into an earphone jack.

Anthony Best - Physics Final

Posted by Anthony Best in Physics - Echols on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 12:57 pm

Finished Product

My project is a modified water bottle that lights at the hand strap. The battery rests covered between your hand space and the lights/strap. The lighting mechanism is the cap. When the cap is in an open position it turns on. I choose to do this because a lot of other people stole my ideas before I could plan them. My bottle was nearby and I got a quick bit of inspiration.

Jovan's Artist's Statement

Posted by Jovan Lewis in Physics - Echols on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 12:57 pm

although I never got to attach the lights onto my piece. It was supposed to be a J on my blue hoody as seen in the picture. with lights running through it to make it light up. I would have a low key method of switching on & off so as not to overcomplicate things and potentially ruin my jacket.

Here is a link to my review on a google doc.

Grilled Cheese Circuit & Artist Statement

Posted by Dakota Foster in Physics - Echols on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 12:51 pm

For our project, we decided to create a grilled cheese sandwich, with light up chesse. We decided to conduct this because both of us like food and cheese very much. Grilled cheese is one of the simplest meals with food and it is recognizable by mostly everybody. The Grilled Cheese sculpture is a way for us to represent  that we are indeed still kids at heart, that are in love with food.

Artists statement: This project is a simple but complex project. It looks like a simple and pretty peace sign but there is a lot of complexity to it. I wanted to shed some peace and light

Sidney Williamson & Jasmine Hussain Artist Statement

Posted by Sidney Williamson in Physics - Echols on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 11:02 pm

Artist Statement: Physics and art together can produce something that is simple and eye catching. For our project we are making the letters “SLA” light up on a plastic backpack to show our school spirit. We are using the SLA theme colors blue and white with a pop of red for the heart to represent the attachment we have towards our school.

Jordan Hairston and Laura De Jesus Artist Statement

Posted by Jordan Hairston in Physics - Echols on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 9:28 pm

When the circuit benchmark was first presented to us, we had a few ideas of what our main object could be because of what they mean to us. One of our ideas was to make a Nike check light up. The Nike check is the Nike Company's logo. The Nike check was an option because Nike is Laura's favorite sneaker brand. She wanted to run a circuit through a basketball sneaker and have the outlining of it shine. Another idea of Laura's was to run a circuit through the base of an iPhone case and light up the border of the Apple logo.
Even though these were good brainstorming ideas, we both found common ground with a music representation. As music lovers and musicians, our love for music inspired us to create our own eighth music note. The structure of the note could be sculpted out of clay and the way that it is neatly structured and decorated also shows our appreciation overall. We chose to create a eighth note instead of any other music note because it is a common design and representation of music overall. Other than a treble clef, the eighth note is a favorite of ours. The first sketch of our music note would have had original and addition designs to the border of it. We choose to decorate the eighth note in a way in which the note will sparkle and shine even when it is not lit up. From the color schemes of the box, to the amount of glitter sprinkled around the note, our sculpture is the best way to show our appreciation for music.
