Presentation About Me

Posted by Gabrielle Kreidie in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b2 on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 7:38 am

For this project in technology class, my classmates and I had to design a slide all about us. With that slide we had to use methods of making a slide the best as possible as we had learned in previous lessons. That meant leaving some space, writing in large font, make it colorful and to use bleeding to make the slide strong. Using these methods I came up with this slide to represent me.

This presentation shows a example of glance media. There is one picture of the United Nations and my name. By there a reader would automatically understand my message with just one glimpse.  There are only two words on the slide, “Gabrielle” and “Kreidie”, my name. This allows the reader to not have to read through a whole lot of words, only stare at the picture. The reader automatically gets the picture/idea. I was not being a wimp throughout this slide, I made things big. I made the slide colorful and I made the picture turned a bit showing a more flow in the wind of the flag. I allowed the picture to be bled, one did not have to see the entire pole from which the flag was flying across. There was some clear space around the flag not allowing the flag to take up the whole slide. This presentation, as I said earlier, shows the reader the ultimate message: I, Gabrielle Kreidie, have a admiration and love for the United Nations.

Presentation on ME (Part 1) (2)
After receiving constructive criticism from my peers, I designed a slide that was more inspiring to the eye. I took away the shinning light behind the United Nations flag, as well as, removed the flag all together. I decided to push a more classy and complete, straight to the point slide. The slide is the three top chairs at the United Nations General Assembly where the Secretary General, President and Under Secretary General of the United Nations sit. This showed the viewer that I want to be in one of those chairs in the future. The slide was brighter showing optimism with the hope to accomplish that goal.

Ms. Hull set me up to fail by giving me very little directions. She allowed us to be in charge of our slide, she allowed us to take complete control, which turned out to be a great decision on her part. We started off not getting the whole idea of making a slide magnificently beautiful in the design area. After viewing our peers' slides, it became clear to how to make a well and poor designed presentation slide. Thank you Miss Hull, for allowing me to improve my strength in designing slides.

Ms.hull!
I made this slide look this way because in the lesson you taught us, they showed us many different way to show off a billboard. I took a colorful picture from Google and used that for my background. I used huge letters and bright colors to make it noticeable. I tried to make my billboard very visual and tried to fill in the empty space to not make it corney. The lesson influenced my decision in many ways, like how should I show my billboard off. By using a lot of color, or huge words with color and more.

Harry Freed: Very Slide

1slide1furious
(The following is in reference to only the first slide.)
This slide-project was assigned for tech, to help us better understand simplistic design.
I made this slide the way I did because it looks nice- namely, it draws your eyes to the word “WOW” through contrast and and size. I included the word “WOW” and a zoomed in picture of that Shiba Inu because it represents the unhealthy amount of time I spend on the internet. I used the color pallet of red, grey, and white because of how well they contrast. I kept it to three words and one photo so that during presentation, the slide would not visually drown out my voice. I tried to make it so that each set of word took up two thirds of a row of a slide, and so that the picture took up the same, following the rule of thirds.
I had the font as Comic Sans because it was a reference to the internet phenomenon known as "Doge," but decided that Comic Cans wasn't minimalist enough and that I should to change it to Arial.

(The following is in reference to both slides.)
Through this slide-project, I learned the desired features of a slide. I knew already what an "appealing one" looked like, but having it spelled out so plainly by Presentation Zen was useful.
For the second draft of my slide, I changed the bottom text to "thumbs up" and I changed the location and size of my picture to higher and smaller (respectively), and I changed it from a doge picture to a free thumbs up picture. This was all in the interest of making the doge less annoyingly prominent.
I was unaware that "Ms. Hull set me up for failure."
During classroom discussion, I learned how easy it was to pick on even the best of student art. In a topic you are well educated in, any error becomes glaring.

Ms. Hull taught us about our AUPs or Acceptable Use Policies in technology class. We learned that not every one is the same. We also learned that we need to learn the different rules that come with each of the various policies. The diagram shows how the internet comes from our Internet Service Provider or ISP. My personal ISP is a Comcast Coax. There, it enters my mother's room through ethernet cord and into the modem and router. Another ethernet cord then connects to a desktop computer in her room. In my house, there are multiple devices connected to the internet like my laptop, phone, a Playstation 3 and an Xbox 360.

My Home Network

For this project we had to create a drawing of our home internet network. The goal was to help us understand what the internet actually is and where the codes go to bring you the information you need. The next part of the unit was understanding Acceptable Use Policies. We read both the SLA AUP as well as the SDP AUP so we could further understand what acceptable internet use looks like.

Internet AUP

Posted by Kara Heenan in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b2 on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 8:17 am

In this first quarter in Tech, we learned about the internet and what we do on it. Ms. Hull taught us about the troubles you can get into and how to use the internet wisely. She also taught us about the connections of the internet we have for our devices. This is a picture of how the internet connects to the different devices in my home.

Brandon's Quarter

Posted by Brandon Jones in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b2 on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 8:11 am

During the first quarter we talked about acceptable use policy for our school and the School District of Philadelphia. We also read a book involving internet security. I feel as though this unit was very productive.
I really enjoyed this quarter.

Internet connection

Posted by Chloë Epstein in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b2 on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 8:04 am

This project helped me see how my electronic devices really work. Before, I knew nothing about how these devices were working and what helped them work. For all I new they could have been working "magically". But now I know there are different wires and connections that have the internet work and the device alone to power on. We also learned about the application Lucid chart which we used to create our internet connection document. Now we have more knowledge on the different programs that we have access to on the SLA website.

In the first quarter of Tech, Ms.Hull taught us a great deal about the concept of the Internet. We learned the difference between SLA AUP and PSD AUP.We also Learned about how we are able to get the internet and how it operates the electronic devices we own. This diagram below shows  how my Internet enters my house and  connects to my electronic devices in my house. This activity was very fun.  I never really thought about how my tablet allows me to get on the internet.I just knew I was on, now I know the reasoning behind it.

MY INTERNET AUP

Posted by Niah Lombo in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b2 on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 8:00 am

During the first marking period in Tech. we learned about the internet and how mistakes people made on the internet. SLA internet policy is more reasonable than The School District. They have some similarity like no porn, no downloading, no personal files, but I believe SLA gives you more freedom to expand our work to the world than the School District. As we learned about the internet policy we also read a book called "LOL OMG". The book is about mistake people made on the internet and how it effected their personal lives. The book teaches us to be more careful on what we say on the internet. This lesson is for us to figure stuff out and to learn more about our internet and where it comes from. Overall I learned to be more careful on the internet and to think twice before we post.
