My New Media Fluency Slide

This is my new and improved slide based on criticism. I didn't present my last slide, but I went around and asked for opinions and decided to make an entire new one. My last slide I do regret, it was very messy. On my new slide, I learned from other presentation critiques to use a high quality picture for the background. I also put a quote in white color to make it stand out more. This slide is definitly a major improvement from my last.

This is my slide. I had the images of things that interest me bleed off the bottom of the slide because, as said on Presentation Zen, they make the presentation look more engaging. To avoid making the slide feel like a long novel, I only included my first and last name at the top, and I left a small blank space on each side of the slide because it helped draw the focus to areas where there was content. Also, to make sure that the slide didn’t become too lifeless, I added an angry bear in front of an explosion to draw attention. At first there was just a picture of me, but I thought that it looked too cliche and uninteresting.

After presenting in front of the class, I got a lot of suggestions for how I could improve my slide. First of all, Ms. Hull told me that I should make my slide into halves, with one side having the bear and the other having my name and interests. She also recommended that I change the sizes of some of the images to create better contrast, such as increasing the sizes of the baseball and bear, and decreasing the font size of my name. When listening to classroom discussions, I also learned to never have blurry or pixelated pictures in our presentations, and to always have some sort of organization to avoid a confusing slide. Ms. Hull meant to set us up for failure with this project by making it so open-ended, so that we could learn from our mistakes and revisit it later. Now, if we’re in another class making a power point, we can look back on this and know exactly what not to do.

In technology class we were assigned an assignment using what we have learned through out tech class and we have learned from numerous things from something called Zen. So, what I have chosen was a picture of a duck, in fact the ugly duckling. I used this to signify to things one do not let the pixels from the image be clear to the eye and make the picture stand out more than the rest of the image. I did this so the eye of the viewer can focus more on the image. Another, thing that I did was I made the letters of the words green because I felt like green was the most often color seen in this picture. One, more thing I did was edit the picture so It wasn't copied right off of the internet.

In tech class, we learned a bit on media fluency. We watched a video on Presentation Zen and read a bit on how slides are designed. Ms. Hull assigned us to create a slide that represents us using different design methods. I decided to use the contrast method. The light bulb contrasts with the dark background, really making the slide pop and it grabs the attention of the viewer. I also did a play on words with bright and light bulb to make a connection with the text and the words. This makes the slide very harmonious. The word bright also flows with the lit light bulb since they are both similar colors.

This slide represents me because I'm not afraid to be different and be unique. I take interest in quirky things, which makes me, me!

After presenting my original slide, I was critiqued for the low resolution of the picture and the size of the font. I first found a high resolution version of the picture I used and replaced it with the other one. I also changed the font of the words because I felt that the original font was too boring and didn't add any "oompf" to the slide. I notice how in other posters, they use unique fonts so I replaced it with a a more fun, interesting font. I also moved the word "bright" into the spotlight of the light bulb. I believed that it created a connection between the words and pictures creating harmony. I also made the other words appear over the words bright to create balance.

Ms. Hull set me up to failure by completely making me do this by myself. I couldn't ask any questions and didn't have any help. She introduced us to a new subject that we obviously had no idea about, and had to use online sources to complete the assignment. I learned how to properly create a slide that is appealing to the eye. I plan to use these methods of design in further projects for school such as, Power Points.

For my media fluency project, I choose a quote that i think really spoke to me. To me, I think it means to only be you because that is all you can be.

Slide about just and simply me.

My presentation is extremely simple. Totally opposite from me. That is because no picture can fit what and who I really am.My favorite color is blue and I used it to color my whole name. The design it not too complicated and the pattern is actually pretty noticeable. The background is even more simple than my name, and it is simply shaded on the edges and light in the center.

From our presentation and discussion, I learned that the littlest detail matters. It affect how someone look at your work. I learn that my text should match somewhat of what I did. The solid style "Times New Romans" did not work with my floral theme. So I decided to change it up and make it all different but with the feed back of the class. I did the same thing and somewhat the same procedure I did for my first one.

From the websites and video I learn that there needs to be a balance in emptiness and picture or content itself. I made my slide a balance of pictures and emptiness, and I chose those two picture because I think it match well with my quote and also they go together. I made copies of the two pictures and line them up together to create another picture. Also, I made the background pink to show warmth and to keep it simple because the picture looks more married as a whole picture. I really like the idea of emptiness and bleeding off, which had influenced me on how to deal with my pictures, because I think it looks better since it’s not overwhelming, and you can actually pay attention to the quote too. This picture and quote represent me, because it’s nature related which I love, and also it relates well to the quote. To me the quote means, not to look at something and automatically think what you see is what you really see because sometimes your eyes and mind trick you.

Now you might be wondering why are the students creating and uploading all these picture slides. Well in technology class we are creating these slides to describe ourselves. We watched a video and saw websites about things like the Ikea billboard in order to get inspired with making our own picture. From the websites and video I learn that there needs to be a balance in emptiness and picture or content itself. I made the first picture (green tree) bleed out a little bit in order to get a closer look at the whole picture itself. Also, I made the background white to show emptiness and to keep it simple because the two separate picture looks more married as a whole picture. I really like the idea of emptiness and bleeding off, which had influenced me on how to deal with my pictures, because I think it looks better since it’s not overwhelming, and you can actually pay attention to the quote too. This picture and quote represent me, because it’s nature related which I love, and also it relates well to the quote. To me the quote means, not to look at something and automatically think what you see is what you really see because sometimes your eyes and mind trick you. That is why the tree picture has a camouflaging bug or insect that you’ll notice if you look closely enough.

All About Me!

Before creating this slide, I watched a video about how advertisers make billboards that capture the attention of its viewers. I learned that these advertisers use “empty space” as an advantage. They leave the people looking at the billboards wondering what’s next, but they know what the billboard is about. Because of this, people might be more likely to go into the store. Another thing that advertisers to is let the pictures “ bleed” off the page. This basically means that when people look at this picture, they show believe that the picture continues off the page and goes on further. Throughout this project, I had a lot of trouble. I didn’t know how to express myself in one slide. However, as the project went along, I learned that not everything has to in many words. This meant one thing to me: just be simple! There is no need to try to make a long power point and add all these effects to be “cool”. One slide can express all you stand for and how you are like as a person.

This picture best represents me because I am a very bubbly person, hence the bubble. This picture also represents my belief. I always believe that everybody is just a small part in this word and each person has something that makes them unique. Also, I think that a lot of people choose to keep what makes them special inside.This is why the bubble has a rainbow inside of it. Lastly, the quote is included because it adds on to my belief and I wanted to make my overall message stated and clear.

In this unit, the class was focused on how to make a slide that not only looks good, but it captures the attention of all those who look at it. At the very beginning of this unit, I was so scared. I only knew the basics of creating a slide. However, by the end of this unit, I learned all the different techniques that goes into planning slides.

To start off this unit, Ms. Hull set the class up for failure. She asked us to create a one slide slideshow. This was very difficult because she gave us no type of help. Even though we had a little introduction lesson on how slides are created to be appealing, it was really hard and my first slide was disastrous! However, after presenting, I received feedback and I believe that my second slide is much better. In the end, I learned that slides do not have to be cluttered with things to make it unique. All in all, this unit taught me a lot and it was very insightful.

SCRIPT

This slide shows that I'm like a lion on the inside and my pride is just like one. The apple logos just show that I'm in love with Apple products. SO my pride is like a lion my will is apple ( I buy and love Apple its all i save up for). The slide also has plenty of bleeding in to each other picture. I made this slide look like this because I think it shows how each picture goes into each other like lion(pride) to apple(my love). The thing that influenced me was my love for wild cats (lions are the best in them) and my iPhone (how fun it is using it). I couldn't make my mind between my pride and person inside of me or my love so i just picked both and put it together.

I have learned some very simple things to some harder things. I had to refresh some things in my mind as well at some points i couldn't even find some easy things and tools. And the there was things that I have never used that I did this time. Like some PDFs and posting I didn't know I learned and know more about now. I did a lot of things different I changed the entire slide. I made it into something new and better. My first slide was not so good it had too much of everything and too complicated. Even the quote needed 30 minutes to explain what it meant (this is me, spirit of a lion and will of apple). Then I also had 4 different pictures which was to much I was trying to do bleeding but it didn't come out good it was just to much. Now my slide is much more simple and better as you can see in the following. People also told me that I had to many pictures and didn't understand the quote. So I changed and fixed all their problems. Mrs. Hull didn't do step by step and didn't answer questions and told us to go to the rubric no steps at all ;and she would be like i don't know when asking for help. There was a lot of room to mess up and we did. BUT we fixed it now.

Niah Lombo: Me slide

In technology class we are making a Media Aid all about yourself. I made the slide like this because I try to be myself and not what others want me to be. I think it would be boring if everyone is normal because we would learn nothing new from each other is we are "normal". The blue bird in the pack of brown birds show that even if the blue bird is different the others don't treat him differently. That is why i wrote "It's okay to be YOUnique." What influenced my decision was that i believe that people try too hard to be something that they are not and i am trying to show them that it is okay to be different.

I tried not to do no text aid on my slide. So i just wrote a small but meaningful quote and I bleed the picture because you could tell that the birds are sitting on a wooden fence. I balanced the mini hearts and the picture so it can look like a real poster and not a poorly photo shopped poster.
