Goal:

Make tutorial videos for incoming freshman. These videos should be tutorials of tools that students usually have trouble using such as: Google drive, Google Docs, and Canvas. The Goal is for the students to watch the videos and be able to use the different tools with ease.

Abstract:

For my final project I decided to make tutorial videos on a few things that I noticed. I noticed that plenty other students and I  struggled with working with online tools that can be used as shortcuts. Coming from a traditional textbook school, it was a major change when learning how to work with computers and to rely on them to perform basic functions like where to find my homework. As, time continued to move forward I basically became a pro at finding whatever I needed to make sure that my assignments were turned in on time and keeping up with work. Not even just that, but I made sure I followed the guidelines to projects so I wouldn’t get points deducted because of simple mistakes. Like a Freshman, I once was a freshman and I know how difficult it can be to work with computers. So I decided to make simple tutorial videos to help freshman coming into the SLA community, with these videos it will make their work process way easier than it would be without them. Although, I have faced many challenges with working with these things, I know that Teachers know what frequently asked questions are in their classrooms, and I know Teachers get tired of answering the same questions. So I decided to make a sample survey and I sent it out to the Teachers who work at SLA, asking them to give me ideas on what videos I should make for their students, and what do they see their students struggling with the most. The results came back and Teachers told me that I should make tutorial videos on Google Docs, Google Drive, and Canvas. The things that students struggle working with the most.

3 Beef Sticks ($1 from local poppi store)

1 Bag of Ramen Noodles (35cent from local poppi store)

Shredded Sharp Chedder Cheese (Optional)

Steps:

Grab your bag of noodles, crush them up inside of your package then pour them into a bowl. Take the flavoring out of the bag, open it up and sprinkle half of the flavoring on your noodles. Take your bowl and run water in it from the sink. Use water until your noodles are a few centimeters under the water.

Put the bowl in the microwave for 2 minutes.

While you are waiting crush the hot cheetos up in there bag, until its a bag filled with hot cheeto dust. Then grab your 3 beef sticks and cut them up into 1 inch pieces.

The microwave should have went off by now, take your bowl out and stir up the noodles. Now dump the hot cheetos inside the bowl, mix this up consistently.  Once, the hot cheetos have been mixed into the noodles well, pour the pieces of beef sticks inside the bowl and mix this well also.

Place your bowl in the microwave for 1min and 30 sec.

After you take the bowl out of the microwave for the second time grab a handful of your shredded cheese of your choice. Remember this part is optional. Sprinkle your cheese over the top of your food making sure that its extra cheesy.

Place your bowl in the microwave for 45 seconds.

Scott Pilgrim V.S Taming of The Shrew

Posted by Husain Kegler in English 3 - Pahomov - D on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 10:32 am

Scott Pilgrim V.S The World is a romance comedy. This movie focuses on the love life of Scott Pilgrim. A 22yo, man who has been finished high school for a couple of years now. Throughout, the movie Scott is having thoughts and flashbacks from his past relationships. And, they mess with his mind a little bit. The movie started off with Scott dating a High School Asian girl named Knives. About 30min in, Scott goes to a party to a party and meets a girl, who he continues to stalk for a week, until he finally decides to ask her, even though he is still in a relationship with Knives. In, the long run. Scott dumps Knives for this new chick named Ramona. Throughout the time with Ramona, Scott feels that since Ramona and Him are in a relationship, then they have to kiss.  Another thing is that Scott believes that to be with Ramona that he has to defeat all of her ex boyfriends (Who wants to fight him). That shows how his love for Ramona is real.

In, The taming of the shrew there was a guy named Petruchio, and Petruchio had to tame a shrew named Kathrine. He tamed her by not listening to her. He tamed her by making her follow what he said with no talk backs. He showed this throughout many scenes. And, the two things that in both stories they have expectations on relationships. They feel that when they are in these relationships that the female has to go with the ideas. And, to their expectations the females do follow what the expectations are. To conclude, both of my stories are showing the male expectations in a relationship.

Scene Example #1

Screenshot 2016-06-12 at 9.21.54 AM.png

Screenshot 2016-06-12 at 9.22.26 AM.png

In this scene Ramona introduces the concept that in order for them to be together that Scott has to defeat her ex seven boyfriends. Scott’s reaction is shown on his face. At, first Scott questioned the process, but he also thought to himself that, he has to prove his love with her. So, scott decides to go with the “plan.” This proves my thesis that the male expectations of a relationship, in this case Scott’s expectations are that he has fight for Ramona’s love. But, this also proves a point in real life that people think that in order to show someone that you love them, then you have to fight for them.

In the taming of the shrew, my first quote comes from a part in the book when Hortensio, Petruchio, and Katherine were out at night, and Petruchio and Katherine had a little altercation about how the moon is shining bright. You can read the quote down below.

Quote #1

"Petruchio: Good Lord, how bright and goodly shines the moon!

Katherine: The moon? The sun! It is moonlight now.

Petruchio: I say it is the moon that shines so bright.

Katherine: I know it is the sun that shines so bright

Petruchio: Now, by my mother’s son, and that’s myself, It shall be moon, or star, what I list, Or e’er I journey to your father’s house...

Hortensio: Say as he says, or we shall never go

Katherine: Forward, I pray, since we have come so far, And be it moon, or star, or what you please. And if you please to call it a rush candle, Henceforth I vow it shall be for me."

Act 4 /Scene 5 / Lines 3- 7 - 14-15 (Pages 185 & 186)

This quote shows how Petruchio wanted something from Katherine, and at first she wasn’t going for it, but then she coped with it. Petruchio wanted Katherine to agree that the moon was shining bright in the night, but Katherine steadily said that it was the sun shining bright. A Infuriating Petruchio, brought the attention of Hortensio, Hortensio then told Katherine to just agree with him, or they would never leave where they were. Katherine listening to Hortensio; gave into what Petruchio was saying and agreed with him. Also, she then said that whatever you say for here on out, then she would go with it. This example proves my thesis statement showing that the male expectations of a relationship is  that Petruchio’s ideas of the relationship is for his woman (Katherine) to agree with anything he says, no matter what. With no talk back, because he will get stubborn.

My next example goes back to Scott Pilgrim V.S The World. In, this example Scott feels that when in a relationship, what comes with is is kissing. After, Ramona tells him about defeating the ex boyfriends, the word that stuck to him, is when Ramona said “relationship.” Scott was more worried about that than the seven ex boyfriends. Scott then proceeded to say “Since, we are in a relationship, does that mean we can make out?”. Ramona said “Sure,” then they started to make out on the bus.

Scene #2 Example

Screenshot 2016-06-12 at 9.21.56 AM.png

Screenshot 2016-06-12 at 9.22.23 AM.png

Screenshot 2016-06-12 at 9.23.44 AM.png

In this scene it supports my thesis statement that the idea of male expectations in a relationship. This, time the expectation was that since they were in a relationship then they had to make out. That was Scott’s expectation. Also, Ramona coped with the idea of Scotts. This relates back to when Katherine coped with Petruchio’s idea of the relationship was that she had to listen to what he said, even if she didn’t agree.

In, both of my examples, they tend to show the male expectations on relationships. They tend to both focus on what they think how the relationship should be ran. The stories focused on being dominate and showing their strong will. Petruchio and Scott both showed their dominance in a few different ways. Petruchio showed his ways by arguing with Katherine, treating her badly, and being stubborn. While, Scott fought for Ramona which showed his will to be with her, and he made out with her, to show his affection. Both, stories in different ways and maybe some similarities, sill prove the male expectations of a relationship.

A trip to North Carolina

Posted by Husain Kegler in English 3 - Pahomov - D on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 6:04 pm

(The Events that are about to take place have happened and they are all facts. The only thing is the dates may not be correct, but around the same time period.)

[ The inspiration for this story, is from reading a book called “The Things They Carried.” In this book there is a chapter that explains how the main character (Author: Tim O’brien) feels about death. And, he explains that Death makes him think more about the world, and when he tells his story in the chapter’s Good Form and In the field. After, having a near death experience back to back, that I can’t never forget, makes me cherish life more. Not, only did I almost drown but I live to tell this story another day. ]

May 26th 2008

I was eight years old at the time.  About 1 or 2 weeks my great grandmother had passed away and everyone was still mourning her passing. This was a hard time for everyone and no one was the same for awhile. My family was usually filled with laughter, there weren’t many arguments lately. And the little kids (my siblings and I) hardly got yelled at for breaking something, or drawing on the wall. Which was pretty occasional.

May 27th 2009

During a day at school, my siblings and I returned home to find a few relatives in our home. They were closely related to my great grandmother. They greeted us and we greeted them. They said the usual when we saw them, such as “You’ve gotten so big since the last time I saw you, or “How old are you now”, even “I remember when I was changing your diapers.” And I would sit there and listen like I cared, which I really didn’t. But, the thing that was weird is that my mother allowed strangers to me at the time change my diaper, like what if they touched me in inappropriate ways. . . But, that’s besides the point. My relatives (Cousins) decided to invite my siblings and I to a upcoming family reunion (I think they felt that we were in ‘pain’ at the time) in July. In the beginning of the month, they gave us a date, a time, and the place.

May 29th 2009

It’s been two days since we got the news of the upcoming Family Reunion and my Mom and my Grand Ma were still speculating whether they should let us go or not because they have really never let all of the kids go away at once, and they were a little afraid because of that. They were okay with us going away to another relative’s house for the weekend, but we were going out of state and we were going to be surrounded by strangers basically. After, my Mom and my Grandma talked about it for awhile they decided on the decision to let us go to the Family Reunion. They said it would be a good experience for us. They said we need to meet our family and need to go out and have a good time, instead of being in the house during the summer.

June 13th 2009

This was the last day of school and I decided to tell all my friends about my upcoming events for the summer. I do not know if they were as excited for me going away for the summer as I was, but they all said they hope that I would have a good time. I was so excited for the reunion that I decided to go straight home after school, although I knew that the reunion was probably a month away.

June 20th 2009

It’s been a week since school ended and I could honestly say that I was anticipating all the things that I would be doing at the reunion more and more as the days went by. The days went by even slower because, for one I wasn’t in school and I was in the house because of the heat. I was just thinking about going swimming, meeting new people, and the big banquet at the end of the reunion. I was really looking forward towards the swimming although I didn’t know how to swim.

June 25th 2009

It was time for us to start going shopping for clothes, shoes, and accessories to take with us on the trip. One thing I remember is when we bought wash clothes and tooth paste my mother just grabbed a hand full, without looking at the colors. And, when we got back to the house, my mother started passing out the wash clothes. When it was my turn to get a wash cloth I had to get the last one which was a dark pink, which everyone made fun of me for. But, oh well we were  couple days closer to the big day.

July 11th 2009

It’s two days before we head down to North Carolina for the family reunion. We were packing bags, and are really excited for the next week. We were going to have a great time. But, I had butterflies in my stomach. I think I was starting to get nervous about leaving for awhile, and also going to an unfamiliar place.

July 12th 2009

Today is the day, My siblings and  go to our relatives house, to get ready to head down to North Carolina early in the morning. My cousin came and got us, and took us to the chinese store. He ordered us a couple of egg rolls each. I remember being angry because my sisters ate most of them and I only ate one. My cousin drove us to his Mom´s house because that’s where we would be staying for the night. We called his mom Flo. That’s what we grew up calling her every time we seen her. She showed us where we would be sleeping that night. After, she showed us we all took showers and went to sleep. Because, we had to get up early.

July 13th 2009

6:00 in the morning and I was really tired. Flo woke me and my siblings up, and I remember being rushed to the bathroom, then being rushed down the stairs. Flo made made my siblings and me carry out coolers, suitcases, and blankets to a Grey Hound bus that was outside waiting for us. When, we got outside I remember looking around seeing a bunch of cars and a lot of people. All family I guess. We were the last to board the bus, and now I guess our journey has finally begun.

July 13th - 15th 2009

After, we boarded the bus, I remember falling asleep right away. Now, that I think about, I really don't remember talking to my siblings as much on the bus, because I decided to sit next to a relative named Sunny Jr. The only reason why I sat next to him is because he bought me buffalo wings on a rest break. It was approaching night time and I can remember being so bored because the tv was broke and there was nothing to watch, so sleep was the only option. At, another stop I remember learning not to sit on the toilets in public places. Flo told me if I had to poop when I went to the bathroom, make sure that I put toilet paper on the toilet seats so I wouldn’t get crabs. At, the time I didn’t know what that meant, but now I do. At, this point we were almost at North Carolina, we had at least 3 more hours or so. I went to sleep for the remainder of the time and when I woke up, I remember it being really dark, but I could see a white picket fence, and a empty road. After, about 10 minutes, I seen a sign that said “Welcome to North Carolina” Everyone on the bus had gotten very excited that we all had finally reached our destination. It was like 30 min until we reached our hotel and I remember it was a big hotel. But, as soon as we got there we all went straight to bed. I remember having to share a bed with Flo.

July 17th 2009

The day has finally come. I was waiting for this day since I heard the news about the reunion. Flo let me and my sister go down to the pool with a lot of relatives. I seen a Cousin that I would see occasionally and he said he would watch me while I was in the pool, so I guess that was cool. I went to sit by the pool and a guy came over to me and introduced me to his sons. When they came over at first, I was a little timid because I didn’t know them but after awhile I began to talk more. After a lil bit, we all decided to get in the pool. I set on the steps in the pool because I couldn’t swim, and they teased me because of it. I then decided to do what they were doing because I wanted to be cool and I was tired of the teasing. All though I couldn’t swim I decided to jump in the pool at 5ft. Where none of us could swim at. All I remember is falling backwards and gasping for air, and flailing around like a fish out of water. This continued for a while (seemed like forever) until my cousin came and pulled me out of the water. I sat on the side of the pool for a little bit, until I decided it was boring. So, I decided to jump back in with everyone else, in the same spot that I almost drowned in before. The same thing happened as before, I got pulled out by my cousin, and that’s all I can really remember until the banquet, but that’s for another story.

Septa's Problems

Posted by Husain Kegler in English 3 - Pahomov - D on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 11:27 am

In Philadelphia there are many ways of transportation. Some citizens have their own cars, some citizens have bicycles, which is a great way of exercise and some citizens ride Septa. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. Septa has helped many citizens get to where they need to be at a certain time. But, Why is Septa's transportation systems so dirty? Passengers leave trash, passengers graffiti, and passengers even “Soils” themselves while riding on Septa. This has been a problem for a while, and Septa has tried to fix it, but these problems still occur. The reason it’s so hard for SEPTA to keep their system clean is because there’s always problems with the passengers of Septa. The reason why people feel that these things are acceptable is because, they know that Septa is a public place. So, if they leave a mess the  person behind them would have to clean up their mess. But, the truth is leaving a public place uncleanly is unacceptable.

On, Septa passengers have seen many things, like arguments, comedy, even the homeless. One thing that is coming out to the public is that, Septa is infested with bed bugs. Yes, bed bugs. Bed bugs are a parasitic insect that feeds exclusively on blood. While searching through the web, an Article popped up, composed on Philadelphia.cbslocal.com. That shares details of one of Septa's passenger´s horrific experience. ¨I looked between the cracks of the seat and I was like ¨Oh my gosh that´s a Bed bug, says passenger Robert Roberts Jr.¨ This supports my thesis statement because it shows how nasty, disgusting, uncleanly, Septa is. With as many passengers and tourists Septa comes across daily, it would seem that they would keep their transportation systems clean.  This paragraph supports my thesis because it shows how Septa needs to improve their cleaning system on their transit lines. They have bed bugs, which can attach onto passenger, which would put a burden on their life. All Septa has to do is make a cleaning system to keep their transit lines clean.

On a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis thousands of citizens use Septa in the Pennsylvania areas. As, this may be, Septa lets anyone on, who is eligible to pay the fare price. As long as you have $2.25 you can ride Septa´s transportation system. The thing is since, Septa lets anyone on, they should have rules. Now, they do have rules, but not the one´s that passengers would want to be put in place, like clothing, stench, & etc. And, the workers who have to enforce the rules, are the managers, ceo’s, and operators of Septa.  A recent post on PhillyMag.com shows different passengers, and their state of mind while they are riding Septa´s transportation system. There is 3 images of citizens on this post, One is a woman leaned over probably due to drugs, another is a man with his butt crack showing, and the other image shows another man sleep on the train. Some passengers do not have common decency to respect themselves and others on Septa. This maybe because they feel that the passenger that rides after them, will likely pick up the trash behind them. This shows that Septa has to clean up their policies a little, so passengers can enjoy their ride, and not have to be worried about an accident on a seat or with other passengers on the transportation vehicle.

Obviously, Septa was aware of the problems that they have been having on their transportation system. Details to show that this is true, is that they have launched a campaign in 2014. The campaign is called ¨Dude it's Rude¨. This campaign focuses on the difficulties passengers have on with following rules and being generous to other passengers. On, Septa's website (Septa.org), Septa´s representatives describe  the campaign. Included on the website is images of the posters, that Septa has made for their campaign. On the posters, the text always starts with Dude it's rude, then it shows a message to passengers. Some of the text includes, Dude it's rude: Take your Trash, Watch your language, Don't block the front aisle, etc. Septa knows it has many problems on their transportation system, and they are trying to fix it, but Septa isn´t doing everything they can to make sure that their transportation systems stays clean, and that their passengers stay happy.

If the passengers of septa stopped to think about it, they would realize that the dirtiness of Septa is not just about the dirtiness of the transit system , but the passengers who ride the transit system as well. Septa has a very corrupt uncleanly system, that has to be kept up to date. They have to fix their bed bug problems, they have to check to see if their passengers are aware and stable enough to ride their transit lines, also they have to enforce rules, not just say it, but enforce it. And, the only people that can do that are the workers of Septa.

Monologues!!!

Posted by Husain Kegler in World History - Block - C on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 9:44 am

Monologue Draft Number 1: Climate Change?

Whoo I'm running late. [5min later]. Hey! How are you. Sorry, im late I was stuck in traffic. Thanks for understanding. So, lets get right into it. By the way I have prepared some things to get us started. Well, let me just jump right into it. I think climate change is a big deal in the world now, well it has been for awhile and humans cause most of the problems. Excuse me, but we are the ones building factories to burn fossil and that causes so much carbon dioxide to pollute the air. And, if we keep burning these fossils then the air will get heated and melt the ice all around the world. What do you mean the water from the ice can freeze back? If the temperature of the air is too high then there won't be any water to freeze. I think we should think of a way that we can teach the people at this protest thats coming up to  change the world for a better impact  because i’m starting to think I don’t want to be here. Excuse me? I’m not suicidal It just sounded bad the way I said it in my head. Well we have 30 more mins. Left of this meeting and I think we need to start planning ideas. What are your suggestions. Ok, greenhouse effect, energy balance, and reflectivity. Wow guys these are some great Ideas and I think we should focus on greenhouse effect, who agrees? Thanks for coming to an understanding. So greenhouse effect is when the Sun  rays shine to earth and when they try to leave they get trapped. And, this causes heat not to leave our atmosphere. That should be the topic, but what things can we teach them and what can we use to teach the public. I like how you said big banners Mark. Bob great Idea with the build boards. Sally maybe you can make posters at your house . . OK, you're right Jim this meeting took way too long its 2:00 now and we still need to come to an agreement. ok ok ok. . . Yes, I love it. Since, we all are young and social environmentalist I think we should start a protest. That way we can make it to the news and people will be hearing about that, that they would want to join. What day should we start preparing and what day should we be ready to protest so we should protest sept 21 of 2014 and then start getting ready about Now. So I’ll guess i see you guys on friday at 12:00 sharp again and next time I wont be late.

Monologue Draft number 2: We Need A Change

[Yawns] Its really late. I should have did all of this researching earlier. Lets see whats on tv. [Gets Remote] Just a bunch of bogus shows. Well this was a waste of time. I felt better on my computer. [ Goes back to computer] Lets research green gas house because there have been lots of climate change in the past month. All those polar bears whose lives have been taken for no reason and I think its just wrong. Some of those polar bears had good lives going for them but climate change is really bad nowadays and lots of environments and living beings are affected by it and die for no reason. I can think of all the possible ways that this world can end because of climate change. People don't deserve to die for no reason even all those kids who could die because of climate change. Its a shame that even people expect us to do what they want us to do don't even care but they will care when people decide to take a change. I don't even feel safe anymore. It feels like now someone dies every second because of the lack of food or clean water because of climate change. And, although people want to stop climate change, it can't be stopped because every act of change the more someone decides to pollute.

                                   Monologue #3: The Protest

Testing, Testing 123l 123. Hello everyone My name is Richard Haverford I am a 35 year old socialist and I think matter of fact I know climate change is a big deal in america and all around the world. And, I have a problem with that. I was almost denied clean water myself because there was a drought in Africa and there wasn't enough clean water for everyone to drink. I know how you would feel if your kids were denied an clean water because of a drought. Bet, you wouldn't like it. I know I wouldn't like it. I have a very sketchy background. I am a hard working Nigerian man. I got in lots of trouble when I was younger I stole clean water, I drank clean water, and I smoked clean water, no not really but, only because I was struggling at the moment and I was being selfish because I only drank while my family was in the house dying and suffering from the lack of clean water. and thought .Then one night I decided to sneak into a refuge camp and take a bunch of clean water for my family. I did it and almost got away with a pride of joy. When I got caught it landed me in a juvenile detention center for about a year. I was charged with burglary. Now I didn’t know this at the time but I had landed myself in the stereotypes for nigerians at the time. Dumb and Dirty and Un-Educated. The refuge camp I tried to burglarize was a camp from the red cross and a group of environmental scientist. They were studying how much greenhouse gasses were stuck in our region. After I got caught, one of the scientist decided to talk to me, he told me not to fall into the stereotypes of nigerians these days because people will not want to help you out if your not right minded too many people are dying because of the drought in your reason, and the last thing you want to do is piss the wrong person off and trust me they will make your life hell until this drought is over. They might not give you clean water and food. He told me that he was also nigerian and he was in the same position that I was in when he was younger. The things he did for me was the same thing that someone did to him. He gave me and my family clean water and food for at least a month. After my time in the juvenile detention center me and the scientist stayed in contact, Then I went to college and I got a bachelor's degree in environmental studies and political sciences. Now what I am telling you guys is to not let your kids go down the same paths we went down but to help them to make better decisions in life and stay focused in whats going on in the world around them. So, just because your background is sketchy and because of your race or skin color, you can still make a change and a difference.

Final YATW Blog Post! The Change

Posted by Husain Kegler in English 1 - Dunn - X on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:19 am

Hello,

There again people that will be looking at my blog. This is my last and final blog of the year. Cheers to all the information I have included in my blogs that you guys have liked. This is my agent of change project that I will be showing images of cats and the cat food that I have put out for the animals, to show that I have done something for the stray cat world in a way. The first section will be showing the first night that I put out food and the day after, to show what happened to the food. The second section will show the second time that I put out food for the stray cats the night and the day after to see results.

This is my first section showing images from the first night and the day after.

                             1st Night and Day after

                                  That Night

These are images from that night before cats came out to eat. The food wasn't disturbed until i chopped it up. It was late that night so I decided to go to bed and wait until the morning to get the results. So, that's what I did. The next images show the day after with a brief description.

                                       The Next Day

This is how much food was leftover from the night before. The stray cats had an appetite to fill their stomachs but not a appetite to get through the full cans of cat food. Also, I wasn't able to capture images of the cats as they ate because I guess they come out late at night, at least I have gotten documentary of the food that was ate.  The next documentary section is about the second time I went out at night with a little better information.

    2nd Night and Day after

These are images from the night and day after from what happened to the food that I had set out for the stray cats.

                                        That Night

These are images from the second night. I wasn't able document the stray cats because they come out really late. That was a real bummer but the next day I was able to find amazing documented information of the food that was leftover from that night. In the next image section the images are showing how much food was eaten from the plate, which was a lot better than last two weeks ago and I guess the stray cats liked this food better.

                                      The Day after

These are images of the day after, to me SHOCKING! Results, because from last time the results had a big gap in food differences and I was overwhelmed by the fact that all though cats didn't come out right away to eat but, it looks like to me that the animals came out for an after memorial day feast. I really like what I got this time,  but still a little upset that I didn't get any pictures of the stray cats I still got documented evidence to show that there are stray cats behind the gate as seen in the left photo.

I would like to thank everyone who have read all of my blog posts up to now and I thank you for the support and the caring that you as a person. I hope that some people that read my blog posts, that it would inspire some people to try and make a change like I did. I am one boy in a huge world with lots of lost and stray animals. We need to make a change and get these living beings off of the streets. I am sure that if someone like you or me was on the streets and had no food, or not even a home to go to, we would want someone to give a helping hand and help. I know I would. Like I said we can make a change.

Blog Post #2

Posted by Husain Kegler in English 1 - Dunn - X on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 12:35 pm

Hello, again people. As, you may know my name is Husain Kegler. In my last blog I was talking about the basic point of animal abuse. And, how it may affect children in away. I hope that inspired some or most people to look into animal abuse and how they can help animals, helping others, even volunteering. For, my new blog I will be doing the same thing but this time I will be doing field observation. I will be doing this by calling an Operation AVA . I will be asking a associate or employee these questions: ( answers below questions )

1. How well do you like animals?

2. Has animals ever affected your life? katie@operationava.org

3. How safe do you feel around a animal that was abused?

4. Do you have a animal at home, if so how many hours do you spend with your animal?

5. Have you ever been a suspect of animal abuse?

6. Have you ever been a victim of abuse?

7. Have you ever been critically hurt by a animal?

8. If you could change the world for all animals how would you do so?

9. Have you ever thought about abusing an animal?

10. For future references about animal abuse, what advice to stop animal abuse would you like to give to the youth?

11. What kinds of brutality have u seen?

12. What was the most shocking/painful thing to see?

13. Out of cats and dogs which animal do u see more abused, cats or dogs?

14. Do you think it's likely for an animal that was already abused will get abused again when it gets adopted by a new owner?

15. How much time do you think you spend helping out animals?

1. I love animals! I grew up with all kinds of animals (dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, fish, etc.) and love working with them.

2. Animals have always affected my life in a positive way - I think animals can have a positive influence on most people's lives.

3. Every animal is different, but interacting with one that has been abused is something that should be done carefully and slowly. If you're patient, careful, and willing to understand them, there isn't much reason to be afraid.

4. I have two cats at home - I spend most of my time at home when I'm not at work, so we hang out for hours and hours.

5. No.

6. No

7. A horse stepped on my foot and broke my little toe once, but that was an accident. Other than that, no.

8. I would like animal abuse to have more legal consequences than it currently does. There should also probably be restrictions on breeding animals - so many end up in shelters or on the street.

9. No.

10. If anyone ever witnesses animal abuse, they can call the Animal Cruelty Hotline,  1-866-601-7722 to report it to the SPCA.

11. I have been lucky enough not to have witnessed much animal cruelty.

12. We often get dogs in the shelter that have clearly not been treated right. Many come to us as strays but have clearly lived with humans before. They are often underweight, nervous, and sometimes have clearly been used for breeding.

13. Probably dogs, simply because we have more of them here at Operation Ava. Philadelphia has a serious stray cat problem, so often the cats I see have just come off of the streets - sometimes they have never lived in homes with people before.

14. No, definitely not. Especially with our adoption process we screen the applicants before they are allowed to take animals home. We check vet references, personal references, and talk extensively with potential adopters.

15. Since I work at Operation Ava full time, I spend at least 40 hours a week trying to help animals. Outside of work I also try to help anyone who comes across an animal that needs help and point them in the right direction.

I was happy to see the results of my questions and how quickly the employee responded back. This was a great field observation because I got to see or hear what happens in the Operation Ava animal center.

¡Hola! Soy Husain o diro-diro. Tengo catorce años. Soy de Filadelfia. Soy estudiante de Science Leadership Academy, SLA. Esta en 22nd y Arch. Esta es el centro de Filadelfia. Tenemos buenos profesores y profesoras. Tengo buenos amigos y amigas.

Podemos tener libros a leer y necesitamos mochilas.

Respiration Lesson

Posted by Husain Kegler in Bio-Chem 9 - Sherif - A on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 6:21 pm

This is our presentation on Cellular Respiration

What we wanted to learn was how respiration worked, what cycle it uses, what produces energy during cellular respiration. One important thing that we learned was that cellular respiration with oxygen and without oxygen result in different thing. Cellular respiration with oxygen or lack of oxygen results in fermentation that becomes ethanol or lactic acid. When enough oxygen is present the krebs cycle take place. One thing we would change would be to add a voice over to the slides, we think it would have added a nice touch to the presentation.

Tech Class Presents 2
In technology class we were assigned an assignment using what we have learned through out tech class and we have learned from numerous things from something called Zen. So, what I have chosen was a picture of a duck, in fact the ugly duckling. I used this to signify to things one do not let the pixels from the image be clear to the eye and make the picture stand out more than the rest of the image. I did this so the eye of the viewer can focus more on the image. Another, thing that I did was I made the letters of the words green because I felt like green was the most often color seen in this picture. One, more thing I did was edit the picture so It wasn't copied right off of the internet.

YATW Blog Post #1: Animal Abuse

Posted by Husain Kegler in English 1 - Dunn - X on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 9:24 pm

When people are angry do they take anger out on animals?

People with problems tend to abuse animals and neglect them of basic necessities like food, shelter, and water. I believe when people are angry they take their anger out on animals. They do this because the animal is either the closer target or they find joy in abusing animals. So some things that I have found in the website (you can click here), is that facts show that 13% of animal abuse come from a domestic home.  As I researched I have found something on how abuse can affect a child, so when a child is young they learn about abuse by being a victim of it or have witnessed it. So as the child gets older and as he/she gets a certain development with anger issues they would tend to build up anger, and then the child would take their anger out on animals. If the child has not began to seek help by the time as an adult they would go after other things such as peers, children, adults, even the elderly. To them these people would be considered a vulnerable opportunity. Also, family members being held against for child abuse also had abused animals. In in more than half of these cases, an abusive parent had killed or injured a pet a child victim continued the cycle of violence by abusing a pet.

In one study that i have found on this website is that, 70% of animal abusers also had records for other crimes. Domestic violence victims whose animals were abused saw the animal cruelty as one more violent episode in a long history of indiscriminate violence aimed at them and their vulnerability.Another study that I have found is that, a lot of pet owning women entering women’s help treatment centers reported that they have  injured, harmed, killed or even threatened family pets for revenge or to  control victims and that 32% reported their children had brutally injured a pet or killed a pet. As I have found in my studies about my topic and things that I have heard from the world is that pets may suffer unexplained injuries, health problems, permanent disabilities at the hands of abusers, or disappear from home.

This is a picture of a pit-bull named Remy. This dog was found in June 2013 she was a victim of animal cruelty and abuse. When the ASPCA found her she had two broken legs, skin disease,  and severe muscle atrophy, she also was so weak and frail that that she could not stand or walk. This was caused because she was a victim of animal abuse. To me this is what happens when people are selfish and does not care about the needs of an animal. Although animals are not humans does not mean that we can look at them as a piece of trash, they are still living beings, and we can still treat them with respect as we would want someone to give us.

This is a picture of a cat named Kylie she was a victim of chemical burns. She was found late last year when a dog owner found her. Kylie was in a lot of pain and it took several surgeries so that Kylie could be healed. Everyone at the hospital fell in love with her as she began to recover. So like I said I do not understand how can people do this to defenseless creatures, Kylie was affected by chemical burns that caused her to lose lots of skin, Kylie is a survivor.

This is a dog rescued from a puppy mill, I am not sure what this puppy’s name is but it was found on a facility with a lot of other animals. These animals were rescued in 2011 and people were complaining about these animals. These were animals with problems like mold and matted fur, suffering from infection, dental disease and various other ailments. This is a link to this page if you would like to get more information on that topic.

One reason that I became interested in this topic is because growing up I hated to see the commercials with animals on them that makes them look really said, and it gets a little emotional. So, doing this is a way to help relieve my sympathy and to get the word out to others. I am hoping that this will encourage people to help abandoned animals in need and if this comes across someone with one of these problems to get treatment or counseling.

This concludes my blog on animal abuse if you have any comments, please leave them below and if you would like me to answer leave them below as well thank you for reading my blog. For further information visit my bibliography.
