Kyle Thomas// Media Fluency

Posted by Kyle Thomas in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 8:41 am

I decided to make my billboard get noticed.  My goal was to get my slide into the glance media. When people see my billboard I want them to slow down. They should know the elements such as the color, shape, size, lines, patterns, etc. The purpose of my visual is to show my talent and what I feel about it. Next, my theme is to  show how fun and my life on my slide. Also, trying to persuade people to dance. I based my slide off of pictures of me in a dance pose or with my team.

One Slide

The decisions I made were based on color really. My goal was to make my slide like glance media, but I think it’s too many pictures for it to be glance media. I wanted this to be something that would catch the eye. I also wanted to implement contrast so I put the red in the front since it’s bolder than white. One thing that my slide isn’t is one slide, one point. Since there is many points of interest.

n this entire process, I learned how and where to place things on a slide. I learned that contrast makes a huge difference in every way. I learned that size, alignment of pictures and word font can also make a difference as well as italicizing and underlining. On my reflection I decided to use a landscape view which shows a close up of the basketball, which pretty much built my life. I also put "My sport" in a small font which contrasts with the background but doesn't draw much attention. It is VERY important to do research before a project because there's a lot of mistakes when you don't.

I made the slide that way because I think soccer is a good sport and you can tell what the slide is about from the first look of it. Soccer is the best international sport ever and everyone like it so I thought it would be very interesting to make a slide about it. I really enjoy watching soccer and play it because it’s easy to understand. I made the background black so that the only thing people can focus on is the soccer ball picture and I also made the letters red so that people could understand or notice the description.

The reason why i choosed the way i decorated the slide was because, everything i put on it was something that i love or enjoy using. My slide included a basketball, icon of instagram, snapchat, and youtube. I put youtube because, i vlog on youtube, what it means to vlog is to, either react to funny vines or anything people enjoy, and to record yourself during daily activities. I made my slide  simple because, too much design can mess up your slide. If you're just truthful on what you really use every single day, it should just followed up with facts and opinions. The things that influenced me to become a youtuber is, Adam Saleh, he is a muslim just like me, he has over 1 million subscribers, and he tell people too never give up, he just my role model. Also social media is involved on all of these apps, i love to communicate to other all around the world. its our responsibility to absorb our thoughts, enjoy and to learn new things about social media at a early age. Technology is a huge thing that can affect you in a positive and negative way, you always have to be careful. Even though the internet is a fun thing to explore, there will always be hackers who are trying to ruin your fun and play.

Musically Talented

Posted by Sierra Radford in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 1:46 pm

Untitled presentation (1)

Musically talented describes who I am. I play viola and I wanted to express that in this slide so I included that in with the title. For this slide I used the rule of contrast. The rule of contrast is when you a have an ongoing theme and then you have something a different color that is on the other side of the color wheel. For example, if I choose to have a blue background and one thing that is red. The red would stand out from the blue background which would cause a powerful statement. I choose to include this rule because it made my title stand out and it becomes very eye catching.

Louisa's Media Fluency Project

The first thing I did with my slide was pick a color scheme. I read up on how to choose colors to make my pallet aesthetically pleasing and chose a light gray background, with bold black letters for my name, and a medium blue color for the other information. I chose the font Bree Serif. I not only chose this because it’s  a nice font, but because it is a very bold font and can be read easily. I put my full name in black letters at the top in bold letters so itś the first thing you see. The shape of my slide is two dimensional. Since the hue is mostly gray, the value would be middle gray since it’s not black or white.
I let my picture bleed off the side of the border to show the negative space between the picture and the text. That is how I created my slide.

Mayah Gold's Media Fluency Slide

Posted by Mayah Gold in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 1:40 pm

I made my slide look the way it does because it reflects my personality. I included color, line, shape, and space. I made the background a bright color because it stood out to me, which I liked. It was pretty and eye catching. I also decided to position my photos at these certain angles. I wanted to show all of them in a non boring way. For instance, like not just straight. As you can see they’re all at different positions. So that is where I used line. I used space in the sense of like I didn’t want the photos overlapping each other that much. Some are, but like, not extremely. So yeah, those were my decisions.

Personality/Diamond

Posted by Diamond Wallace in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 1:23 pm

Untitled presentation (1)
Do you have a name that resembles a valuable jewel? If you do that means that you are just as valuable as the jewel you resemble. I chose the background for my slide because the center was a colorful diamond. The background was black which made the diamond the center of attention. I remember reading that you had to make your slide colors appealing to the eye. The Diamond was very appealing to my eye. I also chose that picture because my name is Diamond and it was a perfect match. Secondly, the font of my slide is interesting. It’s easy to read. There are certain words that are bold so that the statement can seem more interesting and eye catching. The boldness of the words will grasp the reader into the slide better. In my slide, the diamond is colorful just like my personality and attitude.

Asnain Khan Presentation: Media Fluency

I made the slide look the way it does because everything on there describes me. On my slide I have that background because It shows my future and how successful I will be. I have books, a quran, a person working, and my picture on there because those are the things that describe me other than my picture. I made my slide look the way it does according to presentation zen, I followed all of the ways I can make a great slide. According to presentation zen it stated that, presentation slides must get noticed, be read/understood, and be remembered. So, I followed these to make my slide look professional. Also, it stated, “ask yourself whether your message can be processed effectively within three seconds. The audience should be able to quickly ascertain the meaning before turning their attention back to the presenter.” Then, I tried to do that to my slide, making sure that the audience should be able to get the meaning in a very short amount of time. Last but not least, presentation zen stated that, we should make our slides visual, it should be one slide/one point, we should make type big, contrast rules, and have a visual theme. There are a couple more, but I took out the ones I used and the ones I thought were important. Presentation zen gave me great ideas that made me make a very simple and professional slide. I knew that following presentation zen will eventually lead to great consequences. Thank you!
