Cameron Hinton-Capstone

Posted by Cameron Hinton in Capstone - Pahomov - Wed on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 11:48 pm

All throughout my high school experience, I have seen the same ole sport uniforms from each team. Each team used the same exact logo and the same colors. I wanted to change it up a bit for a more updated look for the school because we also have come a long way from when we first opened up.

For my senior capstone, I decided to come up with new designs for the sports teams in the school for seasonal uniforms and or fundraising purposes.I was first introduced to this by my coach, Mark Johnson, during our 2016 track and field season. He had explained to me how this would work for everyone because of how easy and simple it was. It’s called Ares Sportswear and it was a really beneficial and useful tool for my capstone.

My final product was to end up having a meeting with all the coaches in the school and have a little hands on session with the website so that they could get used to it and ask any questions that they would have. Essentially I set up accounts for each sport and then I had certain designs made depending on the sport. I think that this should be passed down and used for another capstone, because I know that sometimes the teams like to try different things and might want to continue to have different sport uniforms because when you look like a team, you play like one.

My group's infographic is about America's development after they succeeded from Great Britain. Most of the things on the infographic is about war related things. Some of it relates to the political stuff and parliament.

Perfect Chemistry Book review

Posted by Cameron Hinton in English 3 - Rami - D on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at 7:36 pm

Author-Simone Elkeles

Series-Perfect Chemistry

Genre- Young Adult

Publisher-Walker Books for Young Readers

Publication date- 23 December,2008

Pages-368

Simone Elkeles is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of teen novels.  Her books have won many awards including being YALSA Top Ten Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers, YALSA Popular Paperbacks and Teens Top Ten lists, and added to the Illinois “Read for a Lifetime” Reading List. She also won the coveted RITA award from the Romance Writers of America for one of the books I have read,Perfect Chemistry.

As I said in the first paragraph, Simone Elkeles has a lot of book that are aimed for her teenage audience. For example, Perfect Chemistry, Rules of Attraction, Chain Reaction, Leaving Paradise, Return to Paradise, How to Ruin a Summer Vacation, How to Ruin my Teenage Life, and How to Ruin Your Boyfriend’s Reputation. These books have all won her an award. Most of her books have a recurring theme of interracial interactions and relationships.

In the perfect Chemistry series, it focuses on a particular mexican family living in chicago. Each book focuses on one of the three brothers and their connection to a gang, the latino blood. Each book shows how each brother has to deal with the consequences of their brother’s mistakes while also having to deal with problems of their own. The book I read was the first book in the series Perfect Chemistry.

This book is about a school named Fairfield High where the north and south sides of Chicago really don’t mix in the school’s environment. Each side keeps to themselves and never wants to make the cross to the other side. The main characters of the story Brittany Ellis, a white uptown teenager, and Alejandro "Alex" Fuentes, a lower class Mexican teenager, must overcome Brittany's troubled home life and Alex's gang ties to have a their own happily ever after. Brittany Ellis is known throughout school as a perfect teenage girl who has worked to keep up appearances of her picture perfect image and Alex Fuentes's Spanish heritage and how his gang ties throughout the book cause his family chaos.

Each chapter of the book alternates from Brittany to Alex. Most times the chapters starts off by a reaction to what the last character said, then for the rest of the chapter, it focuses on the one character’s life.

This book touches base on interracial couples and the troubles some face day by day. Not being accepted, the whispers, and sometimes the shame of not dating someone of your skin tone. The way she ties that into the book with it’s modern day feel, makes you want to keep reading more and more page after page. If you like young romance and happy endings, then Perfect Chemistry is the book for you. It is a really good book and has some nice awards, and reviews that can agree.
Creative piece:
For my creative piece, I wanted to make a little poem about interracial couples and how they will still love each other no matter what society thinks about it.
Love without the fear
Trust without the questioning
Want without the restrictions
Accept without having to change
For what we have is too strong to lose. People may say what they want, but my love for you will never die for as long as I live.

2014 National Day On Writing

Posted by Cameron Hinton in English 3 - Rami - D on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 3:01 pm
It is probably the best place in the world. We are really passionate and committed people. We love challenges. Philadelphia is also well known its arts and our diverse culture within different races. Personally, the things I know the most about Philly is that we love our food. Any place in the world can make their version of a Philly cheesesteak, but the best ones are in Philly itself. Like Philadelphia’s emblem should just be a cheesesteak or a soft pretzel. But we aren’t just known for our food, but for our sports. Not exactly the teams, but our fans. We have the clearest die hards fans that ever been made. Opposing teams have said that of all places, Philadelphia is not on their top places to play in because of the fans. They say that is gets so loud that they can’t even here their teammates and let alone their own thoughts. Weirdly we have this obsession for the boxer Rocky Balboa. There is this scene of him running up the art museum steps while he was training, We have a statue of him right next to the art museum in the same gesture he made in that scene. There are a lot of interesting thing that Philadelphia has to offer. Our history is very interesting and worth taking a look at while you take a trip here.

But overall, this is the place I call home. I don’t know any other place I would want to be. This place is home. I grew up here, I have family, friends and memories here. If I had ever left Philly, I would count the days until I would take come back.

G10 Science Mini-Capstone

Posted by Cameron Hinton in Bio-Chem 10 - Sherif - B on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 8:52 am
Project: I like the Evolution project. My group and I studied the chipmunk compared to the squirrel.

Inquiry-I learned a lot this year. I liked most of the study island work and I really loved the Ecology unit we did
Research-I used a lot of resources given to us in the beginning of the year, like the site where we could read the textbook online.
Collaboration-I was a part of the community because if there was something I didn't understand, I would go and ask around the class so that I could get a better understanding.
Presentation- I think that my greatest strategy was to look over my presentation and try and remember certain key points on the slides.
Reflection- Some of the things that I would do differently, is that I would try harder to hand in my work on time so that I don't have to worry and stress about the things that I need to turn in.

History Final Portfolio

Posted by Cameron Hinton in World History - Block - C on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 9:38 pm
This year in world history class, we have learned lots of things, done lots of hands on activities, saw wonderful plays, and learned lots of things about our nation and many other places in the world. I wasn't sure how this class was going to be because most of my history classes in younger ages taught the same exact thing, but in a different way. Almost like it was al tied together, but each teacher taught that subject differently. When we started doing units and learning about certain things, I was a bit shocked because it was a new experience for me, but I soon caught on and got with the program.
One of the units that really stood out for me was the whole revolution unit. I think that was because I  was able to voice my opinion with some strong evidence behind it. i had a lot of quotes that stood out from the unit. "In life, you need to handle the needs first, then the wants", "Religion can answer questions that are hard to be explained", "People at the top think that there isn't anything wrong with the world, but the people at the bottom live those problems everyday.", " When a country is colonized, it loses its essence and everything that they live by."
Nonviolence is the better, but longer option when it comes to revolutions. In my journal #19, I talked about when it is right to die for something that you strongly believe in. I feel that is how some of the people now feel when they are cheated out of their basic rights for something that is really stupid and has no positive future behind it. In my journal #31, I talked about whether nonviolence or violence was a better force for change. One of the projects I did in this unit was the revolution video guide. In my project, I looked at violent revolutions versus nonviolent ones, and looked at how successful and effective each were.Depending on how and what king of revolution it was, depends on the impact towards the people.I chose this topic because I wanted to point out the flaws in both violent and nonviolent.
Another project that stood out to me was the Cortes trial. What we did was, we separated ourselves in groups and had a mock trial on the the Aztec cortes issue. In the trial, I was a defense attorney and my job was to do the closing statement. I also had to find sufficient evidence and quotes that would help my group stay on the innocent side. A powerful quote from my closing statement was,"To suggest that the System is wholly responsible for the genocide is ignorant.  A person must choose for themselves what to do, and it is they who are responsible.”
In my wordle picture, I used the words, Nonviolence, Gandhi, MLK, Freedom, Independence, Bloodshed, Personal beliefs, Rights, Human rights, Movements, Violence, Weapons free,Look for change, Uprising, Battle for Algiers, and Arab Spring. I used some of these words because those were the first ones that came to mind when I thought about revolutions. I wanted to use some relevant words while also using some of the things we learned in class this year.
I hope that at the end of the year, I can remember what we learned in class and be able to sit down with my family and share my findings and some of my work so that they can go off and tell their friends and share more about the history we learned in class.

In our History class,we compared and looked at historic and modern revolutions through the years. Some revolutions that we looked at were, The French/Haitian revolution, the  Egyptian revolution, and many others.
In my project , I am looking at violent revolutions verses Nonviolent ones, and looking at how successful and effective each are.Depending on how and what kind of revolution it is, depends in the impact to the people. I choose this topic because I wanted to point out the flaws in both options

Elements Project

Posted by Cameron Hinton in Art - Freshman - Hull on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 11:45 am
Inquiry - I used this by looking for information about my element Cobalt. This allowed me to find what things I was going to use for my final print.

Research - Researching allowed me to learn things about my element that I have never known before. Like how it means goblin in German.

Collaboration - I let my table mates look at the 3 sketches that I had so that they could help me pick out the best one.

Presentation - We had a certain size of paper that had to go behind the printing to make it look better.

Reflection - I really liked this project because I have done this before and I really enjoyed this and it allowed me to almost re-new my skills. Like learn some new techniques from others.

Final Perspective Drawing Green Stream 2013

Posted by Cameron Hinton in Art - Freshman - Hull on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 9:48 am
a. What is one thing that your learned specifically that you did not know before.
I didn't know that you could make a whole art room using lines and vanishing points.

b. How did leaning this thing make your drawings better.

It allowed me to make any room of my choice better because I now know all of the tricks to actually making it look good. Like using my artist eye
c. If you did this assignment again, what would you do differently?
I think I would do my window on the left side over again, it doesn't really look good and it has a little bit a flaws.
d. What is your advice to someone who has never drawn a one point perspective drawing before?
Try to get the easy things out the way first so that when you get to the harder stuff, you have all the time to get help and to redo things.

e. What resource helped you the most and why?

Classmates because they know things that I might not know, so they could give me constructive criticism on how I could make my drawing better. And also the step- by step thing because I could change things around and then I could look at certain things to make sure that I was doing it right. And it also was easier to understand.

The weather in español!!!!!

Posted by Cameron Hinton in Spanish 1 - Manuel on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 8:47 am
  Do I need my umbrella?

When on vacation in a spanish speaking country, you have to know how to understand how to ask and tell the weather

* you have to understand how to tell what the weather weather ( Hace ... OR   tiempo ....) the weather today is

* you have to know how to ask what the weather is like ( ¿ Qué timepo hace hoy ..... )

* you have to know the little words inside other words to remember them easily ( húmedo=humid )
