Final Stamp Design

Posted by Dalnick Matos in Art - Freshman · Hull · c2 Band on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 11:01 am
I began this process by listing things that described me. I wrote a lot about sports and my home island Puerto Rico. I went through many designs of soccer balls but I decided to change it up. Once I started thinking about it more I decided to use the Puerto Rican flag as part of my design. I also added my Three initials. My intentions in putting the three initials in the flag was to point out that I am from there and I am proud. At first it was difficult because I had to make the design of the flag separate from the letters so they wouldn't intersect. I had to do that because if it intersected you wouldn't be able to see the image I was trying to portray. My next step after this was to shade and outline what I wanted to be negative and positive space. Picking the parts that were going to be negative and positive were hard because I wasn't sure which part i wanted to be light and which ones I wanted to be dark. For the major part I decided to use the dark letters as the positive space so the image could be seen better and clearer. The dark space makes from the letter D and M create the image of the letter A without the letter A having to be a dark letter like the D. The star is in negative space because the star is one of the most important components of the Puerto Rican flag. By making it into negative space it stand out in middle of the positive space. To finish, this image has both negative and positive space creating my image of the Puerto Rican flag and My initials.

A. Negative space is an art the incorporates the space between subjects in an image. Negative can be used to show to different images. We can look at the positive space and see an image, and then focus on the negative space and see a completely different image. Usually, for these type of images, we use two colors black and white. The subject in the picture is usually white and everything around it is white creating a silhouette.

B. I found the negative space in this picture by looking for the dark spots in my pictures. These spots created the image of a bat and defined the image I was trying to portray.

C. It helps an artist to see negative space in an image because negative space gives an image definition and brings balance to a composition. Also negative space should not distract from the main subject.

D. Seeing negative space does enhance the drawing. The dark space makes an image more intense and clear to see. Also the negative image is there so we can see multiple images in one. Negative space is also not constricted to only one form of art. It can be found in photography, painting, and graphic designs.

My slide

I decided to redo my whole slide due to the comments I got. For the biggest part everybody liked the quotes I chose to put in my slide. Most of the most common comments I received was that my background wasn't very attractive. I got some help from a college art student and he recommended to make the background about me so i decided to choose one of my soccer pictures. When choosing this pictured I noticed that both quotes related to it. White is one of the coors that has great contrast with any dark color making it pop out and catch peoples attention. I chose the picture of me looking away so people can noticed i'm not focused on the camera instead on the game. I bolded some words because it makes show more importance to those words. The use of empty space because I didn't want things to be to crowded instead to be focused on me and the words only.

DALNICK MATOS final power point
At first it was very difficult to make a decision on what I wanted to put on my slide. The assignment was to incorporate what you wrote on your “Me Magazine” and put it into your slide. I thought it was going to be easy. I thought to myself how hard can it be? I ended up making three slides all crowded, and very disorganized. After seeing some of my fellow classmates slides I decided to look at the sites. On one of them it talked about color and texture. It was a hard task to make the colors have intensity but make it look good at the same time. Many times I put myself in the perspective of the people who will be looking at my slide. With the first couple of slides most of my colors were either too bright or dark and in some cases you could not see the words. I decided to go with a light soothing background. It pops out but it doesn't hurt the eye when you first see it. The background made me feel calm and makes it easy to read the words on it. It was also difficult to write something in your slide that sums up what you talked about in your “Me Magazine”. The slide could not be crowded so I took many things that weren't needed out the slide. I decide to put one picture so they can focus on it more. If there were more pictures they wouldn't know what to focus on. I also decided to make the words big so they could focus on them to and make it easy and simple to read. I didn't want to make the people looking at it use up to much of their time, I want it to be quick and nice. The reason I decided to put the picture tilted was so the design of the slide could blend  in and make it have space so you could see the depth of the picture. To conclude the key to having a good slide is to incorporate having space, color, balance and size.

Technology assignment 2

  • Explain your L.A.N. Local Area Network - all the devices on your internet connection.
  • On my L.A.N i have many devices. All my devices are connected to my modem combination router. I have three computers connected to my land line. I have two Microsoft computers and one chromebook. The device i have the most time that is connect to my land lines are phones. I have three iphones and one LG phone. I also have a tv that requires wifi to work so that one is also connected to the land line.
  • Reflect on what you learned about networks, did you have an OMG moment that you learned something new and interesting? if now write about what you learned.
  • I learned many new things about my land line. For example I learned that there are many different types of routers like a modem combination router,  wireless routers and others. I also learned that some may need a connection so the devices need a special cable to be able to connect to the wifi like an xbox or a playstation.
  • what would you tell other people that they need to know about having an ISP/Home network?
  • I would tell them to set up their modem router in one of the top rooms of their house so this way the wifi doesn't have to go down instead it can fall on your devices if its wireless. Also i recommend that you find our as much information as you can before you buy it so you can see all the options their is and see which one suites you the most.

Explain your L.A.N. Local Area Network - all the devices on your internet connection. I have many devices connected to my modem combination router. They are all connected wirelessly to my router. I have four phones connected to 3 Iphones and 1 LG. I also have three laptops connected to my router along with my LG television. Reflect on what you learned about networks, did you have an OMG moment that you learned something new and interesting? if now write about what you learned. I learned that there are many different types of routers. The type of router I have is a modem combination router but there is also many other wireless ones. I also learned that some devices need a cable to be able to get internet connection.

What would you tell other people that they need to know about having an ISP/Home network? I would recommend finding as much information as you can about it before buying it. For example if its wireless if it has ports to connect devices like the playstation or the xbox. Also when you set up the router at your house and they’re wireless put them in one of the higher levels of your class so the internet falls down instead of going up. Which makes it harder and slower for the internet to reach the device.
