Final Stamp Design

Posted by Jeremiah Butler in Art - Freshman · Hull · c2 Band on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at 5:31 pm
My Final Stamp Print
My Final Stamp Print
To first start off I originally had a overall layout of how my stamp would preferably look like. Then we had the assignment to make a list of words that described us in the best way. The assignment really changed the meaning of my stamp, tremendously. I was first going to write my name in a type of font and put things around it, but then I realized there is one overall thing that I am about. That is cooking and the word that stood out for that was "skillful". So I tweaked my whole stamp and dumbed it down to a chef's hat with my initials on each side of it. I now believe that this is something I could have for my own future business I wish to build from the ground and up.
The assignment was to create a printmaking stamp through positive and negative space. The final design, after I decided to not do the one before that, was brought up to show how clear my vision of me will be in the future.
The importance of negative and positive space is to show how a focus of a drawing can be complemented with a single or more background in a picture. In my drawing the complement of the background space suits it well and leaves a wide range of thought to the stamp itself.
Understanding the principles of this type of art is truly significant to all other art, I see now. If a or multiple focus and background are present the picture is showing negative and positive space. I got stuck around making sure my stamp didn't look my vision I intended. I learned to make sure your art looks like how you want it to, so your vision isn't confused with something that you dislike or didn't want. This can go far in the art world of negative and positive printmaking.

Negative and Positive Cut Out

Posted by Jeremiah Butler in Art - Freshman · Hull · c2 Band on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 10:23 am
Negative and Positive Cut Out
Negative and Positive Cut Out
The negative space in the picture above is the brown region on the owl. Think of negative space as a brighter color different from the darker color in a drawing. Negative space most times is the drawing rather than the background in a picture. So if you were to draw a apple dropping from a tree. The tree would be in the center shaded completely in and so would the apple dropping. Everything that's not shaded in around it would be blank, white or a different color being the positive space.

In my cut the spaces that were not cut out was the positive so it was easy to see that what was darker than the other spaces is negative. The spaces were easier to see after the final product that it was actually the negative space. Negatives pace can easier to find as long as your focus is clear and know how your positive space would look without it.

It helps to an artist to see in negative space so that you can see what the focus is. Like in my example before with the tree and dropping apple they were what eye is drawn to finally. The background added to it, a.k.a the positive space, is additional  to the picture to look at depth in the image. If we were just looking at the negative space in the owl picture then all we would see is the brown parts, that would be our focus.

Seeing in negative space does enhance drawings mainly because the viewer won't have to be scrambling to look for the main focus in a picture. The picture would have just positive space, which would not be that much of an image, unless you could work around that fact. On the other hand a picture with more negative space than positive, could be a picture just not showing the environment around the focus space.

The Making of Printmaking

Printmaking3
Printmaking3
    - Made By Annie B. on November 9, 2006 -

Printmaking takes places with different process of many pictures or designs from special prepared tools or blocks. The first technique of duplicating images goes back several years to the sumerians caves in 3000 BCE. Printmaking is important because the process goes back many years before and it is was one of what developed modern creative art today.

Print did influence every aspect of European culture. Some suggest that print was used in bringing about all the major shifts in science, religion, politics and things that are commonly associated with modern Western culture. The printing press quickly became central to political and religious expression in Europe as well. Writers and printers like Benjamin Franklin were heroes of the time. Print was a leading tool that helped spread visionary ideas that shaped the American Revolution. Printmaking also helped develop scrolls, during the early 1 AD, for things like maps and blueprint.

In the picture above you can really see a release of negative and positive space. The artist also depicts words that flow with the picture. The artist creates color value and varies them in the shading of the darker images. In the picture you can also see some of the designs giving you dimension into the picture.

I can interpret that this picture is symbolizing a act of greed and your conscious telling you it's okay. The words that you can see are: "You need it all all", "All yours", "You want more", "Stock" and "Money". All of these words have something in common and that is want/need. The guy portrayed in this printmaking art seems to be very focused on the money and happy. But this happiness could come from the rewards of greed.

Lastly, I think this is a great picture to express emotions and a situation through positive and negative space. It struck out to me personally as a picture to reflect on and unfold. The detail in stroked lines really brings out the person in the pictures face and how he's feeling about the money and almost his story as well as what looks like his conscious around him.

I noticed that in the picture the guys conscious looks like almost devilish. I wonder if the guy in the picture always listen to these "bad" conscious, maybe that's the reason why they have come to look the way they are. What if this printmaking is showing what greed can do to a person's mind to make them believe that it is okay.

                                                      Todo Sobre SLA

Hola, somos John, Oszain, Jeremiah y Christina y tenemos dieciséis, quince, y catorce años.

Me encanta SLA. Ven a visitarnos.

Media Fluency - Reflection

Posted by Jeremiah Butler in Technology - Freshman · Hull · c1 Band on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 9:30 am
The Taste of the Future Slide (1)
This revised version of my first slide, is what I'm now happy with. It represents everything that should be included in a ad. Recognizing my mistakes I changed just a few things from my original. I changed the size of almost everything. The bowl was one of the major size changes because the feedback I got before, also it made sense because the size of the vegetables should be life like, but big enough to catch the viewer's attention. The middle part "of the" font was changed to a very contrasted font. It was also moved in between the top font and bottom and separated to not look like one word. This is so important to not confuse my viewers. I learned the eye most diffidently can be caught with some, but important critiques. When researching the format a graphic designer uses be sure to input them in a order that flows with your slide. Flowing is important because if your viewer can't collectively move through the ad. in a ongoing and non-confusing way then your ad. is unsuccessful.

Media Fluency Slide-Jeremiah

The Taste of the Future Slide

  1. Wording:

  • My slide is entitled “The Taste Of The Future”, because I feel that being the next generation in everyone's eyes we all have a say in what we eat and what we contribute to the world, weather that’s good or bad.

  • I believe that taste is everything in the world of food and we can’t go wrong by passing down bad examples of food to the next generation.

  • The wording was chosen based off of what I have to offer to the world and how I will impact the flavor of food in the world.

  • I made sure that my font had a difference in size, to really catch the viewer's eye so that it opens up the viewer's eyes to the actual bigger picture of my ad.

  • I also, included a website link that leaves the viewers getting an idea of what they’re missing out on. The website builds a realm of imagination that opens you to what this ad really has to offer.

  • Especially the wording of the link itself. The key word KITCHEN gives you almost the idea of this ad being a interest dealing with cooking or food. Which is important, for a viewer to know and just pick up quickly when read.

  1. Background:

  • My background has a lot of open space with a white background.

  • The reason for my background being white is because I wanted a simple contrast with the different color ingredients I have. White suited the different ingredients very well because it’s a plain cover.

  • Also, the color is the first thing a person will notice about your ad. so it’s important to decide a color that’s eye catching and contrasts with your wording.

  • The empty space in between each ingredients is present for a reason! It shows repetition because some ingredients are smaller than others, which shows the real life effect of the vegetables as it’s real size. I don’t know exactly how big every vegetable is, because it does vary but my estimate of each vegetable size made all the difference in the background space in my ad.

  1. Images

  • The images of ingredients I choose really have a color contrast that shows what I’m proposing to my viewers.

  • Also the bowl on the bottom left corner bleeds off the slide to seem more engaging for the viewers. The ingredients also, bleed off the screen to show that there is vegetables that are being thrown in the bowl almost. But really that’s left up to the viewer’s imagination to conclude.

Intro 1- Tú vs. Ud.
After school, a boy (Jeremiah) brings his friend (Mamadou) over to do homework. When the boy’s friend (Mamadou) goes to greet his mother (Alexis) he accidentally says tú instead of Ud. She gives him a look which makes him instantly correct himself and say Ud., accidental or disrespect?

Will she be able to overcome her challenger.

Intro 3- ¿Qué hora es? Two friends (Alexis and Mamadou) are at a corner, standing around, when suddenly a man (Robert) rushes up to them, late for a party, and asks for the time. Will he get there time? How will they react? Watch the video to find out!

My Home Network

Posted by Jeremiah Butler in Technology - Freshman · Hull · c1 Band on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at 5:47 pm

1)Explain your L.A.N. Local Area Network - all the devices on your internet connection. My L.A.N. is connected wirelessly to a few different devices the most important one is my Iphone 6 plus and my dell chromebook. The others are my toshiba chromebook, the Xbox 1, the Xbox 360, Wii U, the Psp Vita, Mac Book, Samsung 7 phone, Samsung Tablet then lastly a “Blu” Phone. This order is from important to least important. This is because the first few ones are mine and without them there would be no WiFi because my parents doesn’t use the WiFi as much as I do so they’ll turn it off if it’s not used to an extent. 2)Reflect on what you learned about networks, did you have an OMG moment that you learned something new and interesting? if now write about what you learned. I learned that having WiFi is a privilege to have, because if I knew completely nothing about having or using the internet I could do a lot of damage to what I really value and need the most. 3)What would you tell other people that they need to know about having an ISP/Home network? I feel like other people should know where the internet comes from and how it works. The process lets you know exactly what happens, with information needed and brought to you goes through, before they actually call their mobile device “slow” or “broken”. Lastly, they should know their mobile device goes a long way to do what is asked of it.
