In my first post and in my second post we talked about what I would like to call the Social Decline. The “ Social Decline” is basically in my view all the negative effects of technology and how we are oblivious to the changes that are happening. Other the the overall idea of my You & The World project, we went into details of a list of things that affect us as teens negatively varying from, sleep deprivation, addiction, and self consciousness. So far we did some research and then we wrote a essay on it along with pictures and caption. Then a month later I furthered my research in social media, and ironically we used social media to at first record interviews of teens and there phone usage but we weren't getting to the point or coming up with the solution that we needed. That is when I created a ten question survey that I asked people to fill out in the span of 2 days we came up with enough answers to sort of weigh it out and come up with a final product.
Another terrible effect of social media to add to this list is the most important is cyber bullying. It is sad to say , but it has become so common in the average teens daily life. In many ways social media relates to cyber bullying a website stopbullying.gov says “Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets. Cyberbullying can occur through SMS, Text, and apps, or online in social media, forums, or gaming where people can view, participate in, or share content.”. With all that said cyber bullying can happen anywhere anytime where there is an online device in reach. The topic is very aminstrema but for reasons of trying to move forward and get rid of the cyber bullying.
Moving on with this project we were assigned to make change, which is smart because what is the point of the research if you can’t apply it to the world and do something about it rather then speak about it. So it honestly took me a while for me to get the wheels moving, but eventually I came up with a simple idea that can make change in a way. I decided to present the issue and I was going to originally present a solution but I gave the audience the choice t be able to decide what they were going to do after they learned some new information about how social media can affect you negatively. Before all of that I got another thing or affect to share. And then I started to make a short and simple slideshow with little bullet points( so they can focus on me rather then the powerpoint).
(Shown Below is my Attempt on making a change)
In conclusion to my attempt on change, I found the experience to be very satisfying. When I say satisfying I mean it in the way that you feel good when you make a change. I feel like I could;have planned a little better but it wouldn’t be game changing. This project overall was a good experience even if the process was not as smooth the end result is a positive one. I personally learned a lot about myself and that I am highly involved in social media and how I need to make a change in myself as well as other people.

In my previous blog post I gave a brief description of my topic, the negative effects on social media. These effects vary from sleep, depression, and lack of communication skills. We also talked about the percentages of households that contain handheld devices, along with a prediction in the future of what the year 2020 will look like. I will go on into a little more details , listing and informing you, the reader, more negative effects of participating in social media.
So far we have talked about three negative effects caused by social media, Next I have another effect of social media, and it is kind of crazy how many non benefiting affects that I can find form the internet. So, the next one is the addiction aspect, and the time consumption, how it can eat up the time out of your daily life.
Doing some research on the topic I found some repeating patterns. Various ones showed up on different sites, one not loving technology so much, but what they really want to access is done through technology. What is one thing that requires a phone? That thing is communication with friends, and how they need to keep up with the “latest news”. One thing to notice is that with the addiction, it ties into the communication situation we discussed as said in a washington post “teens spend so much interacting with each other on social networks and phones that they are growing less comfortable with in-person interactions and not developing essential social skills.” and this just proves my previous claims.
Adults are usually on there phones frequently, but they have a farther variety of reasons why to be on their phones as much as they are. Teens however are getting to the point where there phone time consumption is fit for an adult.
Observe image below
The next thing on the list that I am going to mention is something more generally about female teenagers. How social media has a huge influence on their self-image. Girls are constantly are self conscious even if they do not admit, I can say that guys are also affected by it, but I think that girls go to the father extreme of finding the level of satisfaction, or just to satisfy other individuals.
Being a student that attended three different school, each one consisting of both genders. During those years consistently, I’ve observed and would say 75% of the students are drained and focused into there self image, and social media just boost it to another level. A short passage from cnn states… “it's not a law that you have to post a selfie before, during, and after every activity. But for kids, it's pretty much mandatory. The resulting likes, thumbs-ups, and other ratings all get tallied, both in the stark arithmetic of the Internet and in kids' own minds. For some -- especially girls -- what starts as a fun way to document and share experiences can turn into an obsession about approval that can wreak havoc on self-image.”. Imagine a world without social media? Would you be better and healthier human being? Maybe you would get a more healthy amount of Sleep, are you obsessed? Those questions that I just asked were put to the test.
For the past month I have been thinking about what do do for my original research I figured why don’t ask our generation, the teens. So it started as interviewing teens, in person, for a quick five minutes. The process was smooth but I wasn't getting the information that I needed and I needed some insight where the person answering wasn't feeling invaded and was comfortable answering. So that is when i decided that I was going to conduct a survey. Answers varying from exactly proving my points to not so much. Considering both I cae to a conclusion, but first let's look at the results to my survey.
Looking at this chart and with the results I can confidently say that the majority of the people who answered to the survey would be a better or a more improved version of themselves without social media. I can not say if they would be happier though.
In the first post we talked about the effects social media has one an individuals and one of those is the mass amounts of sleep lost to social media.
Going into this question I knew that sleep was something that was being taken over by social media or even Netflix( let's not get off topic) but at this point I think you get the point for this one Let us look at one last one.
The last one I will be looking at with you is how much time is put into your social media/cyber life. From how much I participate and noticing with my friends with how much they use it I can say that we are pretty consumed. One answer states ”I've become less attentive. Sometimes I go on it in the middle of class or something” Some though say that social media doesn't really bother them.. Let us take a look.
Some mixed opinions but, with these varied answers it helps me come to a conclusion.
So my conclusion is a little bit of opinion and facts because I believe a lot of people can, and do experience negative affect, but there are some people who either can ignore the decent amount of bad or they just are lying. Anyways. This is a successful experience and I think myself have learned a lot. I am still curious about why people are so engaged into social media I’m into it a lot but I somewhat still don't have an idea why I am involved with it so much. After all of the work I have done on this I still am not 100% sure about my Agent of Change but I wanna start small. People need to be aware before anything can be preached.

As a human millenial in the 21st century, an object that we all use in our everyday lives are phones, computers, tablets, and so on. With these items in our lives, we are all bound to use the one thing that people in America have. Social media is a base where people online can communicate with friends, share posts. These things can influence people in various ways, but the most noticeable in every situation is the negative effects. In the year 2015 there was a census taken, and a little more than 75% of households had either a laptop, desktop, or handheld device. This just shows how much technology is taking over our lives, and like I’ve said before, with technology, comes social media. With knowing what social media can do, I though of an overall goal, for me to be able to present enough information that it will stick to your mind.
Being involved, I never thought it was a problem. Time passes and, I started to notice how it affects our lives and how we are constantly connected. “By 2020, there will be over 5 billion internet users, with over half of them accessing the internet over handheld tablet devices and 80 billion connected devices worldwide." . I think this subject is definitely important. Our world turning into a place where all we rely on is the technology we own.
One thing that I have found with the research is 2 effects social media and technology has on the world that we can improve or fix. The first one being sleep more specifically the the loss sleep and the second one being depression, all due to the use of social media. Depression is very real and, especially with social media, there are so many ways to get access to things that will trigger depression. “A similar study conducted in 2016 involving 1,700 people found a threefold risk of depression and anxiety among people who used the most social media platforms.” This just gives you a brief overlook. Instead of sleeping, many people are up on their phones.
this is a picture that gives you an idea of what I am talking about
( may not be factual.)
Specifically teens since we grew up more with social media we have experienced the most negative effects of them all. I can vouch and say that my social skills have taken a lot longer to develop. I took some time to get comfortable with my friends, elders, and mostly girls, yes girls.” Today’s youth miss out on critical social skills development when they spend the majority of their free time connected to and interacting through a screen.”. This shows how having social media can hurt our social skills.
This gives us a look on percentages of how kids/teens lack social skills.(link can not be achieved)
Writing this has really shown me what I have to watch out for in the future while participating in social media and really looking out for those whose social media has brought negative circumstances upon themselves. We all can have social media and we all can enjoy it but we all have to look out for the negative effects it may have on us.

For the Q2 Benchmark we had to come up with a creative project that will reflect on the book Macbeth book we are reading. Me(Vincent) and my partner Sam decided that we we going to recreate one of the Macbeth scenes Act I Scene III to be specific, and we went to Coxe park to film our short skit/// scene recreation. We had the help of our SAT Nat, and we also had the help of filming from Nickell.
We decided to film outside because we felt that the best thing to portray the actual scene had to be outside. We had our witches dress in ponchos and a hat because that's like the stereotypical way a witch would dress. For Macbeth and Banquo we dressed up as knights and later on with a crown, but overall everything was smooth and I feel we did everything to the best of our ability. One thing that you will also notice is that our acting is decent and that our scene it twisted to fit Macbeth into the office theme.
There are a few thing that i live by and one of them like you see on the slide is Dream Big Work hard and get better this can apply to many things in my life other then my passion and my drive which is baseball Ever since i was born one thing i always did was work hard and got better. From baseball, to school work, or even in everyday chores or conversation. We all start somewhere but one thing I always keep in mind is to dream big work hard get better, and i take that everywhere and use it for everything it is just something that is like and encouragement or a motive., but mostly for baseball my passion. I honestly love baseball and in all humility i am really good and i believe baseball will really be something for me in my future and as I pursue my dreams one thing i will remember is Dream big work hard and Get better
The reason why i kept it so simple though because in the links or websites they all had one thing in common and that was that they all said they had to keep it short and simple and it just need to be able to pop or be able to be understood in a few seconds something. One other reason that I also liked and followed the examples given by the links we were able to visit was it gives me the ability to explain myself and not the slide. It is like a balance of contrast in my color in my slide, i also left some space in my slide because i feel they shouldn't be focused much on my slide but more or so on me or my face.
