  • A. What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it)
Negative space is the space in a drawing for which is known as the empty space around a specific message that the author chose to show.

  • B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out?, 2. in your stool drawing?
I found the negative space in the first drawing (cut out) by placing the stuff that I knew had to be there. When I say that, I mean that I placed a mirror image for both sides of the drawing. I decided what was missing to complete the image completely and from there found my negative space. For the second drawing (stool) I found my negative space by seeing all the space surrounding the stool, the empty space.
  • C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?
It helps an artist to see in negative space because, there is some sort of story clearly in any photo. Sure not all the space is completed by the drawing, but this makes it more real. This allows the viewer to find the complete photo in real life but on paper. It's extraordinary for the viewer and exactly what the artist would want.
  • D. How is negative space useful in creating art?
Negative space is useful when creating art because it allows the full model of the photo to be shown to the viewer. It allows the viewer to live in that moment, to find their complete story through one small drawing.

Final Perspective Drawing

Posted by Tomas Arango in Art - Freshman - Hull - b1 on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 9:15 am

During this project I learned a lot on perspective drawing. I did not know there was so much you had to do, so many lines to draw. I learned how to make ceilings and make it look as if everything is getting smaller. Learning how to draw perspective made my drawings more accurate and more realistic. Now instead of just drawing random lines I use a ruler to make sure everything looks straight.

If I could do this project again I would of erased less to make the drawing look cleaner. I would also put a little more detail into the room and not just keep it so blank. But it was really fun learning how to draw something new and different from what I would usually draw.

If you want to get into perspective I would suggest using the internet to your advantage. Look up tutorials, tips and tricks on how to draw perspective. Also make sure all your lines are straight or else everything will look crooked. While I was drawing my piece, YouTube was really helpful. Also the site that Ms.Hull provided for

Final Perspective Drawing

What is one thing that your learned specifically that you did not know before?
I learned about orthogonal lines. I also learned that the only lines you should have on your page should be orthogonal lines, horizontal lines or vertical lines.

How did leaning this thing make your drawings better?
This knowledge allowed me to make things look real and make things appear 3D.

If you did this assignment again, what would you do differently?

I would spend more time on the table and stool to try and get them to look more realistic.

What is your advice to someone who has never drawn a one point perspective drawing before?

Make sure you find the right vanishing point. If you don't, your entire drawing will be off.

What resource helped you the most and why?

The slide deck helped me the most because it was easy to follow along with and I could go at my own pace.

a. What is one thing that your learned specifically that you did not know before?
One thing I know now is that is how to make things appear 3-D and the vanishing point now is like a hero too me when it comes to drawing. My 3- D drawings were ok but they are much better now!

b. How did leaning this thing make your drawings better?
Learning everything we did in the quarter helped me make this room without those practices and tips given in class I would not be able to do all this. This drawing would be worst than it is now which would be really scary I mean it's bad enough.

c. If you did this assignment again, what would you do differently?
I would make my lines darker and color it in without color sometimes I feel like something is missing and I wanted to color this piece as well but the thing is that some of the lines and parts would fade into the color and not be seen as much.

d. What is your advice to someone who has never drawn a one point perspective drawing before?
I would tell them to learn how to make a vanishing point first of all! It can be hard to make something like this and it is but in order to get this done you need to know the basics of view like bird eye's view. Other than that your fine!

e. What resource helped you the most and why?

This site was a life helper I mean I knew how to draw most of the things but I forgot some easy things and when I looked at this slide deck it came to my rescue!

This is my 3rd quarter drawing project. I had learned many things that I did not know before. I learned how to make draw and make objects appear 3-D. I was never good at 3-D drawing, especially when it came to objects, but now I feel like I had mastered it to my liking. Most importantly, I had learned about the vanishing point.
Those things that I learn are all connected as one thing, because without knowing them, I would never had been able to draw anything close to what I had did. There are simple rules that are needed to follow and I felt that the vanishing point, and although it's small and does not appear in the drawing, it's what actually helped create the drawing itself.
If I was to do the assignment again, I would certainly color it in, darken the edges and lines, and shade it in. I feel that would make my drawing more eye catching and add a nice mood to it. I believe colors can really make a piece of drawing come alive.
One point perspective drawing can be very challenging, but I feel if you know the basics, such as what the vanishing point is, birds eye view, worms eye view, etc, is basically all you need to know in order to make an awesome one point perspective drawing!

Resources that helped me a lot throughout this drawing would be the link, my art teacher, Ms.Hull had provided us, and the lesson she had on drawing room. I feel that having a helping start such as learning how to draw doors and windows helped a lot. Also the link, "Prospective Step by Step" was actually step by step on how to draw the room that Ms.Hull had did herself. I felt that without it, I would be really lost when drawing, especially when it comes to drawing windows. The link and Ms.Hull's help was all the resources I used and felt I needed.

This drawing assignment was surprisingly fun for me, and I never thought I could draw something, especially not a room! Yet I did and had all the help and materials I needed.

1. One thing I learned specifically during the process of drawing the room was how to make things appear as if they are out of the paper. I used to to if I’d ever draw make it all flat. This skill will help me in the future by helping me draw things for the rest of the school year in class.

2. Learning to add 3d to make flat shapes helped my drawings because otherwise I don’t have an image of a classroom. Are classrooms flat? Is the environment of a classroom flat? Is our vision? No. Making my work 3D has shown the real parts of the room we see every b band. I would fail if I was unable to make my drawing 3D.

3. If I did this assignment differently, I’d love to find a better way to make a table and chair. I had a hard time and look somewhat poor. There is always room for improvement, otherwise why would we be doing this?

4. If I were to tell someone about perspective drawing, I’d say panicking is the worst thing to do. When you really work it starts looking special but just saying how do we do this impossible work will do nothing but hurt the potential of your work and educational discipline.

5. A resource that helped me other then time was if you were stuck you could ask a friend to assist you in whatever you need help in. I needed help with my window to the left. I asked a friend how I go about doing that and it helped a lot.

FINAL PERSPECTIVE DRAWING

One thing that I have learned specifically that I did not know before is how to try one point perspective. Before taking this art class I could never draw a one point perspective for my life, but after learning the steps and tips for drawing one point perspective it enriched my abilities to draw. So now it comes easily to me to draw one point perceptive drawings. This made my drawing better because it tested me and it brought out skills that I would of never found if it was not for this lesson. Also it helped me make my drawings more clear? For example before I would just free hand my drawing and would not use my artist eye to see if it was realistic. But now it comes a custom to me to make sure to proof-edit my work and make sure that my lines are correct. If I were to do this assignment again I would use my time wisely and finish the main components of the room first then add the details in. My advice for someone who has never drawled a one point perceptive is to use a ruler at all times! If not it would mess up the whole room and also use your artistic eye. Artist or not everyone has an artistic eye. Also make sure you use your Horizontal line and vanishing point, this is the main structure for the drawing. Resources that had helped me the most was the ruler because the lines are the one that brought the drawing to life and made everything realistic.
