A. Negative space is the area around the main focus of a picture.
B. 1. Negative space in my cut-out picture is all the black space. 2. The negative space in my stool drawing is the area that is shaded in.
C. It helps artists see in negative space because it is just as important as positive space, and can help define the main focus.
D. Negative space is helpful in creating art because it helps you define your main focus.

Negative Space Drawing

Posted by Dominique Ballinger in Art - Freshman - Hull - y1 on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 9:57 pm

Negative space is space around a drawing or painting in other words a piece of artwork that makes up the picture or makes it look better. I found negative space in my cut out of the bird with the blue paper that showed the negative space in the drawing to the actual picture that was in pink. I found negative space in my stool drawing by the different shapes that were around the table that made it look like a table with triangles and rectangles that almost made up the picture. So space that was not containing a object was the negative to the drawing. It helps a artist to see in negative space because it can really extenuate the picture that you are trying to show and shows the central image if you know what you are trying to show around that. Negative space is important in creative art because it allows the artist to again focus on what they want to show and the viewer really gets to wrestle in there mind the difference in the both. For example in bird cut out.

Negative space is a space that is not used. Space that is blank, without a color.
In the cut out, the negative space is snitched, in the stool drawing my negative space is almost everywhere.
What i think it will help an artist to see in negative space is so it can focus more in the positive space
I think that negative is useful because it help the artist become better in there art.

Negative Space is the surrounding space around the central image or main attraction. I found negative space in my cut out drawing by noticing the difference between which was the centrak image and which was the surrounding space. Once I knew this I was able to cut out and trace the necessary components to create the bird. I found negative space in my stool drawing by first creating the central image. That would be the stool table plant and chord. Once I finished that I colored in the surrounding areas that were not those items. It helps an artist to see in negative space because it helps them focus on the details surrounding the main object. Negative space is useful in art because it gives detail to a picture and enhances it. It lets the surrounding image pop out and make a more realistic looking image.

a. What is one thing that you learned specifically that you did not know before?

One thing that I learned and did not know before was that a vanishing point is the key to a perspective drawing. A vanishing point is a dot that marks the center of a drawing.

b. How did leaning this thing make your drawings better?

After I learned about the vanishing point, I used it to create lines called orthogonals. These lines made some parts of the drawing seem farther away or closer, depending on where they were in relation to the vanishing point. This made my drawing look more polished.

c. If you did this assignment again, what would you do differently?

I think that next time, I would try to include more details. Also, I would add some color to it so that it wasn’t just a sketch.

d. What is your advice to someone who has never drawn a one point perspective drawing before?

I would suggest that if someone has never drawn a one-point perspective drawing before, that they go through a couple of tutorials and practice drawings. These tutorials did a good job of teaching me how to draw a quality perspective drawing.

e. What resource helped you the most and why?

I think that the tutorials were a big help for me. They taught me about the different parts and aspects of a drawing. After the tutorials, I was able to create a quality perspective drawing.

a. What is one thing that your learned specifically that you did not know before?

That one point perspective is the base of all drawing and artwork because of shading and positioning.

b. How did leaning this thing make your drawings better?

This made my drawing better because my it showed me how to properly shade and place my art work.

c. If you did this assignment again, what would you do differently?

I would change the depth of my drawings.

d. What is your advice to someone who has never drawn a one point perspective drawing before?

That I was already an artist so I had some perspective and drawing ability.

e. What resource helped you the most and why?

The fact that each and every student in the class was having trouble about different things giving us the opportunity to help each other. This is because we all needed hep and we were all willing to support some one else.

1. What is one thing that your learned specifically that you did not know before?

I didn't know how to draw a 3D's door

2. How did leaning this thing make your drawings better?

it make my drawing look better, because it make my door look real, and 3D

3. If you did this assignment again, what would you do differently?

I'll make the windows look more better, and i'll put more time on this project

5. What resource helped you the most and why?

I think my past projects we did in class helped me the most because it make me know about the basic thing about how to draw a room.

5. Answer these questions in full sentences. Make sure your answers sound intelligent. (read them back to yourself to make sure) No spelling or grammatical errors. Use vocabulary you have learned.

a. What is one thing that your learned specifically that you did not know before?

I learned to use my artist eye.

b. How did leaning this thing make your drawings better?

I was able to determine things for myself.

c. If you did this assignment again, what would you do differently?

I would give myself more time.

d. What is your advice to someone who has never drawn a one point perspective drawing before?

Make sure you use your artist eye.

e. What resource helped you the most and why?

The step by step slide.

Final Perspective Drawing

Posted by Chiara Nemati in Art - Freshman - Hull - y1 on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 9:41 am

During this project I learned some new things that I had not previously known. One thing I learned was how to use one point perspective to create a 3D drawing. Learning this made my drawing better because I can now make things more realistic. Also it gives it a certain appeal that people like to look at. If I did this assignment again I would definitely learn to use my materials better. I would choose a longer ruler so that my orthogonal lines were more accurate. My advice to a person who has never drawn in one point perspective would be to carefully read instructions and take their time. The resource that helped me was actually other people. I say this because when I was practice drawing getting others feed back helped me better my project and look out for those things when I made my final project.

1. What is one thing that your learned specifically that you did not know before?
a. One thing I learned specifically that I didn't know before was how to draw a door in perspective. It was very challenging since it was my first time learning how to draw it but however, I think that I did a nice job overall.

2. How did leaning this thing make your drawings better?

a. Learning this made my drawings better because my door didn't look fake or like it was glue onto a wall. Unlike an actual door which comes out of the wall and has a border. This skill will also help me in my future drawings as well.

3. If you did this assignment again, what would you do differently?

a. If I could redo this assignment I would change the wall I choose to draw. First off, because I think I could have went out of the box and tried something different. Secondly, Change how I drew the stools. I think they look quite fake and not up to my standards.

4. What is your advice to someone who has never drawn a one point perspective drawing before?

a. My advice to someone who has never drawn in a one point perspective would be to follow you vanishing point because it is very helpful through each step. Secondly to measure evenly on both sides of your project. My last piece of advice would be to take your time and make mistakes so you can learn from them.

5. What resource helped you the most and why?

a. I think my past projects we did in class helped me the most because it gave me the resources to look back and see step by step how to make various a vertical and horizontal lines turn into a 3-D room from perspective.
