Morgan Taylor and Brent Scott SLA Back Pack!

Posted by Morgan Taylor in Physics - Echols on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 11:01 pm

My partner and I chose to do a back pack with the words SLA on it. We used 6 lights in a parallel circuit with a 9 volt battery. The color lights we chose were blue and white because those are our school colors. Since we had to have and off and on switch we decided that if you want to turn on the back pack you just tape the wire to the positive and negative parts of the battery. We also needed to find a way to put SLA on the back pack so we decided to put different colored smily faces because it would help make the lights pop. Although it does not look like all 6 bulbs are lit they are, they are just very dim.

Sterling Perry and Roger Bracy "Space Jams"

"Space Jams"

As sneaker collectors my partner and I have always talked about additions to shoes that can make them better and in some cases worse. When we found out we could put lights on our own custom made sneaker we immediately came up with the concept of a light up Jordan shoe.

There was a wide range of shoes that could have been used, but we wanted ours to have a meaning behind it. Through our research we found that there was a Jordan shoe named the "Space Jams" inspired by his movie. We figured when someone thinks of space they think of stars and moon which can be sources of light.

We went out and purchased a replica of the shoe and began to put in our ideas and apply what we learned about circuits to make a shoe that doesn't look as if we stuffed a bunch of wired inside and made a robotic shoe. But a fashion piece of art.

Picture coming soon... (technical difficulties)

Dejah Harley & Tamatha Lancaster "Create" Artist Statement

Posted by Dejah Harley in Physics - Echols on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 9:46 pm

In physics class, we discussed what a circuit was and the different types of circuits that there were. We learned of the differences between parallel and series circuits, which one is better in certain situations, and the formulas to measure certain things within the circuit. These things are the resistance, current, voltage, voltage drop, and power. These formula was Ohms Law and the Power formula. After learning this, we were asked to make a circuit within a sculpture that represent us. We chosed to make a circuit while sculpting something artistic because it represents our passions. With that in mind, we spelled the word “create” with wire while having lightbulbs in between sticking out of the canvas. These light bulbs light up above the circuit, while the actual circuit lies on the back of the canvas. Our circuit represents the one thing that we both love to do, create.

Amanda Cartagena- iPad

Posted by Amanda Cartagena in Physics - Echols on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 9:33 pm

The reason why I chose this project is because since i'm always on my iPad I decided to make a replica of it made out of cardboard. I wanted the circuit to work when you pressed the button, just like a iPad will turn on when you pressed the home button. My replica was just a bigger model of a iPad, it has one series with three light bulbs running off of a 9voltage battery, and since we needed a on and off switch I chose the home button to be the on and off switch.

For this project we were asked to create a sculptural piece of art that is an electric circuit running off a 9 volt battery. I made a sculpture where music notes light up. I chose to create this because music is major part of my life and has a great impact on who I am as a person today. Music is always there for me when I'm down or even in a great mood. It lights up my world. :)

Bright "S"

Posted by Sean Force in Physics - Echols on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 4:31 pm

I chose to use an “S” shape for my sculpture for a couple of reasons, the first one was it looked kind of cool originally in the simulator that we were using to do tests.  The second reason was because coincidentally it happened to be able to look like the first letter of my name, my name being Sean.  Especially afterward I am glad that I made it like that because it really does, in my opinion, look pretty cool after it was done.

Matthew Marshall

My first quarter physics benchmark is a frisbee with lights through the top. I chose a frisbee because it is the sport I play. I feel this represents me because frisbee is a big part of my life. Being able to take something that means a lot to me an incorporate it into a project made me really want to do well. I wanted to make something that I would be proud of and could show my team and family.

Eric Loth/Zakee Jones "Swag Bag"

Posted by Eric Loth in Physics - Echols on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 12:47 pm

This is what we call "Swag Bag". The reason why we choose to create a light up bag, is because, having a nice bag in school makes you feel really good. Having the thought that my bag lights up makes you feel invincible. School is half about having a nice bag and half about getting good grades.

Willie Willson, Artist Statement

I chose to make this sculpture the way I did because I feel it represents my inner nature.   The design was to make a bow out of lights.  Bows can be used as weapons, but also as tools for survival and protection.  I feel as though the symbol of the bow stands for many of the things I see in myself.   With the amount common ground I share with a bow, it would be ludicrous to make anything else.

Lexy Babcock & Drue Boccuti ; Infinity Sign

Posted by Alexis Babcock in Physics - Echols on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 9:35 pm

Drue and I knew we wanted to create a sign made completely out of lights. We were stuck between many symbols like: a bow, an anchor, an infinity sign, a heart, and a cat face. We decided that an infinity sign would be easier than the other choices and also look really interesting lit up. We find the infinity sign cute and wanted to make a sign that we would want to put on our bedroom walls. In a more deep, metaphorical way, we find the infinity sign to represent the infinite possibilities in life.
