My Network By Jasmin Gilliam

Posted by Jasmin Gilliam in Technology- Freshmen - Hull on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 11:24 am

I learned about how my home network works and how i can do stuff to help with the cost of the bill.i learned that it is a complicated process putting a network. I learned that the network in my house does a lot more than just the TV or just the computers it connects with every wireless device in the apartment. i would tell other people that they should get a home network that can do the things that they are looking for. Say if you are looking for a network that you are able to connect with every little device that is in your home then you should get something that is wireless. if your looking for something that you only need it connected to one or two computers by a wire the you should get something with an ethernet cord. One thing that is very important is to ALWAYS HAVE BACKUP.

Bell Tamira Lucid Chart Home Network

My Local Area Network (L.A.N.) is provided by Clear 4g high speed internet service. There are 7 devices connected to my L.A.N, they are 2 MacBook Pro’s, an iPod, a pair of speakers, a desktop computer, and 2 tablets. Through this experience of learning about my home network, I’ve learned that the cost to purchase and maintain home internet services can be very expensive. Also wifi signal is stronger if put at high elevations because wifi falls down. And I’ve also learned that my L.A.N differs from other L.A.N.’s because the conventional modem or router is connected to the internet through a phone, ethernet, or cable cord. But my modem/ hub receives internet signal via internet towers. The Clear Hub Express picks up internet signal from the nearest tower to give me my internet. I would tell others that getting “Wifi” is best when you have multiple devices that need to be connected to the internet. Also you should look into the cost when you are about to purchase the internet because you need to see which internet provider fit into your budget and what speed you would need for the amount of devices you have.

Toby Hahn's Home Network

Posted by Tobi Hahn in Technology- Freshmen - Hull on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at 12:29 pm

This is my home network. Most of the devices (6 of the laptops, all the iPods, the Kindles, and the printers) are connected to the network via WiFi, but the devices that need a consistently faster internet connection (such as the TiVo, the Wii, the PS3, one of the laptops, and the alarm system) are connected via ethernet. The devices on the top floor (TiVo, Wii, PS3, and one laptop) get internet through a box with an ethernet port that plugs into the wall and transfers internet through the electrical lines.
I learned that internet is very expensive.
I think people should know how their network works so that if something goes wrong they can fix it.

The internet service provider is Verizon. This connects the phone wire which connects to the modem. This is connected to the router. The router sends signals to all of the electronic devices such as computers, printers, game systems, and televisions.
I always thought that it was really interesting how the router can send out signals to the electronic devices. I learned how the firewalls work and what they can block the searches from beng delivered and how all of this can take place in a matter of seconds, yet we still complain about how long it takes for a search to go through.
I would tell them about how the how the router communicates with all the devices and about how everything communicates with something else, kind of like a domino affect.

This is my local area network. There are many electronics that are hooked up to the internet service that comes into the house. The internet comes in from the ISP, which is the internet service provider, and is sent to the modem. The modem send the signal to the router, and the electronics pick up the signal from the router and use the internet.

I learned that the internet is permanent, and anything you post will remain there forever, even though you delete it. I also learned how the local area network functions and what the ISP stands for (Internet Service Provider.) It was very interesting to understand how the network works, and learn about how everything is connected.

For people that need to know something about having an ISP/home network, I would tell them that they need to be careful about what they put online. That being said, I could say that they should definitely read a lot about it and ask a lot of people for advice if they need help because it's a lot of information to absorb the first time you read about it. I think they should definitely be educated in it before they get an ISP or home network.

2. Comcast, which is my I.S.P. is directly connected to the internet/World Wide Web. Then from the I.S.P. wires are coming out of it. The wires are going into the Modem which then connects to the wireless router. From the rowder a couple different things are used. The desk top, laptops, cell phones, home phones, Wii, printer, and T.V.

3. I learned the difference between the world wide web and the internet. Also all of the different names and meanings for the machines/equipment that is connected to my home network. Such as I.S.P, modem, and router.

4.Make sure all of the wires are connected correctly. Also make sure you know the important things about having a home network and how to take care of it properly so you don't have to re buy different pieces of equipment.

2. Comcast is my I.S.P which is also connected to internet, who is a server to the World Wide Web. The cable wire is connected to the Modem. The modem provides internet connection also known as wifi. The Wii, two I-phone, two HTC One X's, as well as my Mac Book Pro & my 8500 hp Office Pro Printer are connected to the wireless router.

3. I learned that your home network is more than just internet. It is a World Wide Web. You might not know it but a lot is connected to the internet Such as phones , computers, I-pads etc.

4. Something that people need to know about having ISP/Home Network is that it is expensive, depending on who the server is. Also that everything that you is forever on the internet. It never goes away, even is you think you "erased" it.

2. To connect to the internet at home I use my phone and my laptop.
3. I learned about everything in my home and how my internet is connected I never payed much attention to it before, I learned about my own ISP, and a general understanding of the subject
4. I would tell other people that it costs alot to maintain having a home network, but it is very important so having internet is worth the deal, all depending on the customers service provider.

(Explain your L.A.N. Local Area Network - all the devices on your internet connection.)

There are two laptops in my network; one MacBook Pro (mine) and one Acer laptop (my sister's). There is also an Apple TV that stays in the living room along with the Wii. My dad uses a Dell desktop too.

(Reflect on what you learned about networks, did you have an OMG moment that you learned something new and interesting? if now write about what you learned.)

I learned that my network is extremely confusing and very expensive. I also realized that internet is not just some magical data, but  actually a complicated system.

(What would you tell other people that they need to know about having an ISP/Home network?)

I would tell them that they need to make sure they understand how to hook up their network and also that internet is extremely costly.

I have many devices on my L.A.N. I have devices such as printers, phones, monitors, and gaming consoles. I learned a lot of information on networks. I, myself am not technologically savvy so, I got a lot of useful information from this. I had no clue that so many of my devices were connected to two things, a modem and router. Another thing that I learned was that the internet is the base of everything, network related. The thing I would tell people about having an I.S.P./Home Network is that the system is much more complex that you think. My view on the internet and how it work was nothing compared to what it actually was.
