Slide About Me

Posted by Miles Cruice-Barnett in Technology- Freshmen - Hull on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 12:57 pm

After seeing the changes that were made to my classmates slides, I changed my own to make it more appealing. I changed the colors of the text to mach parts of the pictures so that there would be a color theme. I made the first line a arm color so that it would be more noticeable and be read first and the second line a cool color so that it would be read second. I enlarged the pictures and made the minecraft one cover more of the bottom of the slide. I also found more information on slides from this website.
SlidePDFTIS1
My 9th grade technology class is making slides about ourselves using the lessons from these two websites (1, 2). We then had to make a script about why we did what we did.

Slide
I left the background color white to contrast the color of the text. I had to fool around with the size, font, and colors of the text so that the first line is noticed before the second. The way I had it originally I kept reading the second line before the first. So I had to change it so that the the first line was more noticeable. I made the images bleed off the slide to make it more appealing. The emptiness of the bottom left and top right corners is to give your eyes a break from the visuals.

I had a lot of fun doing this assignment and learned more about how to create slides.

Me Slide - Andrew Roberts

Posted by Andrew Roberts in Technology- Freshmen - Hull on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 12:53 pm

For my Technology class, my teacher, to teach us how to make good presentation, told us to make one slide about us.  Mine is shown below. I chose the three pictures for things I like:  science, math (specifically Pie), and books.  I chose a sans serif font, which is more appealing to the eye, and left lots of empty space to focus viewers on my points.  All of the important font is large and is read in a glance.  I chose the theme because I like order and alignment, which this blueprint-styled slide suggests.  I put myself as a doctor because I want to get a Ph. D. in chemistry.

Me Slide
For this slide, I took my classmates' suggestions.  I alpha'd the three pictures and used an architecture font that matched the theme.  I switched the position of the pi picture and the book picture.  I also got rid of the boxes and words at the bottom and just put my name in a bigger font.  I also changed the beaker picture to match pi and removed the animations (which we there, but n to noticed in a PDF).  I also matched one word to one picture, so "Dr." is the color of the liquid in the beaker, "Andrew" is the side of the pages in the book, and "Roberts" is the color of pi.  I played around with the three colors so they matched (The Dr. and Roberts are almost the same color, but that color is in both pictures.  I also made the corners of the picture line up, to make a sort-of cascade effect.

Esperanza Gonzalez Home Network

Posted by Esperanza Gonzalez in Technology- Freshmen - Hull on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 12:40 pm

This is my home- network. My ISP is Verizon, and it enters my house. Then, it's connected to my modem. From this modem I receive the connection of what's called " ethernet ". To be able to able to connect this modem, I use a the cat 5. From there I get connection to the internet with my wireless router airport. From the internet connection I get internet to an 3 iphones, 2 ipods, a sidekick, mac book pro, and hp touchscreen laptop. Since my printer prints wirelessly, I don not need a USB cable to print. And that was my home- network! Bye :)

AUP

Posted by Taylor Washington in Technology- Freshmen - Hull on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 12:32 pm

1. Name three major differences between the SLA AUP and the SDP AUP
In the SDP AUP they describe what people can and can’t do or watch. In the SLA AUP they have a category of what you can and can’t do.
2. What is the most unfair rule from both AUPs
The most unfair rule in SDP AUP is that you can’t bring your own hotspot. The most unfair rule in the SLA AUP is that you can’t keep personal files on your laptop.
3. With your group come up with three changes for both AUPs to make the policies better.
We think that the AUPs are fine and the consequences seem fair.
4. Now imagine you have children write an AUP for your home network with your group.

AUP

1. No inappropriate content.
2. No hacking into other people’s accounts.
3. Don’t touch other people’s computers without their permission.
4. Don’t download illegal things.
5. Don’t become friends with people you don’t know on the internet.
6. Respect everyone else on the network and on the internet.

Nashay Day/Lucid Chart

Posted by Nashay Day in Technology- Freshmen - Hull on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 8:44 am

My l.a.n, local area network consists of my phone which is connected by a land line, my xbox, computer, laptop, and printer which are connected using a usb/ethernet. I did not know that what made your life so simple could be so difficult when you got down to the logistics on it. When you have an ISP, just be educated, and know every component that goes into so that when something like Hurricane Sandy happens you will be prepared.

Hummel, Lauren, Lucidchart, Homenetwork
In technology class, we learned a lot about networks such as how they work and what we use them for. My network consists of basic components that all networks need to be able to work. First is the Internet that lives in a cloud that is everywhere which is where you get all of your information. Then, there is the cable that comes into your house that connects you to the Internet which is provided by your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and mine is through Comcast. Next, your cable connects to the modem which the information from the Internet flows through to get to the router which is the next part of the chart. The modem translates the variety of numbers and codes in order for us to see them and understand them. I thought this was very interesting and I would like to know more about how this works. The router in my home is wireless and is the Airport Extreme form Apple. the router sends the information to all of the different devices on the network. On my network is 3 laptops, a desktop computer, 2 iPads, 3 iPhones, a television, PS3, a Wii and our printer. It all secured under our secure network. I learned all of these things in the first few technology classes because until this class I knew very little about my network. To have a home network you need to know your networks name and passcode also your ISP and how the internet comes your home.
