For my senior capstone I decided to do something that was relevant to who I am and what I love to do. I noticed that many of the cultural and traditional values in the Latino community tend to fade away in U.S. because they're not in their country of origin. My overall goal was to restate the importance of Latino values and why it’s so important to pay tribute to them.With this project I touched on the following topics; family, social justice, stereotypical views, the role Latinos play in the U.S, and Religion. These topics play a role in my personal life and also in the lives of many others, which I why I chose to do them. I wanted to bring attention to these topics to give the audience a sense of what many families with Latino/Hispanic descent have in their lives. My inspiration for this gallery was the artistic style of Frida Kahlo. Most of the work is inspired by her life and the way she lived it. This is specifically focused on the traditional ways of Latin American art. I learned more things about my culture and discovered new ways to view the world. This capstone process was a very long but has finally has come to an end. This project definitely reflects who I am as person, and defines my interests and the way that this country has changed me.

Q3 Art Portfolio

During this third quarter in Ms. Hull’s senior art class, everything has been excellent. In this quarter we had to create a water color painting, metamorphosis drawing, coat of arms, mosaic, and a wire sculpture . All of the pieces were given 100% of my time and effort, which can clearly be seen through the work. This quarter has been very tough and intense. However, enjoyed making every single piece. 

My favorite piece of art work was definitely the water color painting. I love anything that deals with paint because it gives you the liberty to create anything. I love the technique that I created on the center of the page. I honestly didn’t think it was going to come out so good. The eye on the center came out beautiful! I wanted the eye to reflect different emotions which is why I used different colors. I made the outline of the eye very bold because I wanted to show intensity. Overall I thought this painting was very well executed, and definitely my best yet. 

Q2 Senior Art

During this second quarter in Ms. Hull’s senior art class, everything has been excellent. In this quarter we had to create a golden ratio collage, a fern drawing, design a block print, and lastly do a negative space drawing. All of the pieces were given 100% of my time and effort, which can clearly be seen through the work. I believe that this quarter has been my best yet. I loved making every single piece because they were new things that I never did before.

My favorite piece of art work was definitely the negative space drawing. It featured nature, and I love nature. I personally enjoy drawing/painting anything that deals with nature because it gives the viewer a sense of freedom, liberty, and it’s also relaxing. I like the fact that it was black and white because it made the scene of the bird look very dull but intense. Overall, it was one of my favorite drawings so far.  

McCarthy Unabridged: The Road, Page 173

​The passage below is what I imagined was left behind in McCarthy's The Road. This is Ely's untold story. 

Everyone will be satisfied when everything comes to an end. Trust me, no one would rather be in this hell of a world. I mean, unless it’s someone like you.

Me? I don’t like-

I know. But you chose to be in it because of him. I don’t blame you.

You would do the same, wouldn’t you?

The old man stays in silence as he stares at the fire.

You wouldn’t-

You don’t know anything.

The old man picked up the little twig from the ground and threw it in the fire.

You had one?

Billy. My happiness only lasted 7 years. Never saw him since then.

The man took a stare at his sleeping son, and turned back to look at the fire as it intensified.

There was barely enough bread for us three. I suffered an accident, and was unable to work. I preferred that he ate.

Three?

The old man stood in silence while he threw another twig at the fire.


She didn’t want our angel to live the same fateism. Selfishly, she took my heart with him to the adoption center. She never told me where but rather why.


I’m pretty sure he’s an angel. Angels keep going forever.

You’re right. Just remember. Your hope is just like this fire. You have to feed it twigs. If it’s small, it will not warmth you. If it’s big, you’ll have enough to warmth others.

And how’s your fire?

Right now I have ashes. But I rather have my ashes than none at all.




​Here is my rationale, explaining my thinking in depth. 

One of the characters that made me curious ever since I finished The Road was definitely the old man. We knew him as Ely. One of my favorite parts of the book was when he felt vulnerable when he saw the boy. It made realize that he still had a paternal instinct. Which made me conclude that he might’ve been a father at a time. Even though he didn’t quite share his story with the man, I knew that his story was time worthy, which is why I wanted to explore that part of the book.

I guided myself from Ely’s paternal instinct. That made me decide how and why Ely’s attitude was a huge part for his character. When the papa and the boy encountered Ely, he automatically thought that they were robbers. He didn’t even try to run or fight it. Which made me realize that maybe he’s already accustomed to other people taking away what is his. That gave me the idea of the plot.

The plot consisted of the Ely, his little boy, and his wife. After suffering a tragic accident that enabled Ely to work, he could no longer support his family.  It came to a part when they became extremely poor and they couldn’t support their 7 year old boy anymore. His wife then took the decision to take their son to an adoption center. The wife thought her son would be better with another family that could give him what he deserved. The wife took Ely’s son away, and he ended up regretting it forever.

  During the organization of the plot, themes and motifs came naturally. One of the themes that automatically stood out to me was hope. When something you love so dearly, and it’s taken away from you, you tend to lose motivation, hope, and purpose in life. Specially if you lost it all, like in a world where there’s literally nothing left. You’ve got to work what you’ve got. Sometimes having hope is the only key for survival. But in the contrary, if you actually have something to fight for, your desire for survival should be greater than any other person. Which is why I made Ely share his story with the man. To serve as a reminder to keep going. Even if the odds seemed to be against him. The motif I chose to do was fire. They dealt with fire pretty much everyday, which is why it was a great idea to metaphorically show the importance of hope, and the way it’s maintained so it doesn’t die. Just like fire.  


Senior Art Q1

  ​During this first quarter in Ms. Hull’s senior art class, everything has been excellent. In this quarter we had to create  a ceiling tile, self portrait, charcoal still lives, jack o lantern, bats, and our own painting.  All of the pieces were given 100% of my time and effort, which can clearly be seen through the work. I believe that this quarter has been my best yet. I loved making every single piece because I did everything that I wanted. 

My favorite piece of art work was definitely the tiger picture. I really dedicated a great amount of time on it. I decided to use black and white because I wanted the viewer to experience a special mood. I wanted to make him look mysterious yet at the same very interesting. I’m very proud of tiger I created! I love animals and this has been one of the best drawing I have made. 

Traditional Relationships & Roles

In this first quarter benchmark, our class read a book called The Metamorphosis and completed a benchmark based on it. Reading The Metamorphosis we explored the ways in which Franz Kafka’s tale responds to the many “isms” of his day. Our job was to come up with a some sort of literature that reflected our modern era. Our group decided to do a very popular topic in today’s world. We explored how traditional relationships and roles changed throughout time. 

We created a movie trailer to promote our movie “The New Bae”. It was based about a girl who cheated both men and wanted to have an open relationship. Then, created a New York Times movie review to mimic the audience’s response. Finally, we compared our idea about untraditional relationships to existing work in the industry.

Q4 Art

        ​During this fourth quarter in Ms. Hull’s two day art class, everything has been excellent. In this quarter we had the liberty to create our own selection of pieces.  The pieces I created are as follows ; a human portrait, a nature landscape, a drawing of roses, generated art, and a night vision painting.  All of the pieces were given 100% of my time and effort, which can clearly be seen through the work. I believe that this quarter has been my best yet. I loved making every single piece because I liked the diversity. The freedom we were given this quarter was incredible! 

My favorite piece of art work was definitely the night vision painting.  A Night Full Of Stars, was a painting that contained a mixing of a beautiful variety of cool colors. I wanted to interpret a very calm yet sparkly night. I also wanted to transmit the emotion someone feels when they look at a very beautiful night scene. Which is why I started with a very dark shade of blue and then started to get light. Overall A Night Full Of Stars has been my favorite painting this year.

During this third quarter in Ms. Hull’s two day art class, everything has been excellent. In this quarter we had to make the following pieces; a self portrait, a value drawing, a basic shapes drawing, and an animal sketch.  All of the pieces were given 100% of my time and effort, which can clearly be seen through the work. I believe that this quarter has been my best yet. I loved making every single piece because I like variety. I also like trying new things, and this quarter was all about that. 

My favorite piece of art work was definitely the panda drawing I made. Personally for me, animals are one of my favorite things in the world. I love animals. My favorite animal is the panda. I think they’re adorable and loving. I believe giving it personality is something I struggled with. I wanted the panda to transmit the peace and loving environment he was in. I used darker shades to interpret that. It was very fun and the best drawing of a panda I have ever made!

So for my infographic I decided to have bullets going one direction to represent arguments, and bullets in the opposite direction for counter arguments. I thought of having both arguments from the Mexican American War to kind of understand each story from both countries. I didn't just want to represent the pros of the war, but also the cons.

Joe Louis

For my NHD project I decided to research about the sporting world in American during the 1940's. The sporting world was dominated by the white people which made African Americans harder to fit in. During my NHD, I decided to research Joe Louis, who was the first black athlete to move race barriers. He was truly one of most important athletes that has ever lived because he joined blacks and whites together.

Quarter 2 Art

During this second quarter in Ms. Hull’s two day art class, everything went great. In this quarter we had to make the following pieces; an art collage, a hand drawn fabric drawing, a depth in field photograph, and a illustration based on a story.   All of the pieces were given 100% of my time and effort, which can clearly be seen through the work. I believe that this quarter has been my best yet. I loved making every single piece because I liked the variety. I also like trying new things, and this quarter was all about that. 

My favorite piece from this quarter is definitely the hand drawn fabric I drew. It took me more time than any other piece, which is why I think it’s my favorite. I spent around 5 hours to draw this fabric, every time I didn’t like the way it looked I erased it and fixed it. While drawing this fabric I wanted to show the environment in which the fabric was in. I wanted it to be black and white because I wanted to capture a very old look. I didn’t want any other color on the fabric because it wouldn’t transmit what I wanted it to. When looking into this piece you can experience an old, rusty, but rich touch. I think that capturing the way I wanted it was very hard. Time was definitely on my side. 

Quarter 1 Art Class

Artist Statement : 

During this first quarter of Ms. Hull’s two day a week art class, has been challenging, entertaining, and fun. What I did during the first quarter was the following; an artistic VANS ceiling tile with a cheetah print design background, a jack o lantern, a realistic drawing of Robert Pattinson and a self portrait of myself. These 4 pieces of art work contain a great amount of time and effort. Personally, collecting all of these pieces of art was very challenging because I always strived for perfection. 

My favorite piece of this first quarter was the realistic drawing of Robert Pattinson. It was hands down the most difficult to finish. I wanted to express an emotion in the drawing so that the viewer could establish a connection right away. That was very hard yet fun. The motivation that made me pick Robert Pattinson as my model was his mysteriousness. I think his eyes contain a story of mysteriousness. I find that very interesting, which is why I decided to draw him. To me, expressing emotions through art is something that’s very important to me as an artist. I think that any artist that can do that are special, which is why I also make art. To transmit that emotion to the people who want to experience it. 

Perfect: Pretty Little Liars

The book Perfect by Sara Shepard, is a New York Times bestseller that inspired a tv show in ABC family, called Pretty Little Liars. The series of Pretty Little Liars contains a total of 16 books. Each of them contain unique titles that amplify their plot. In other words, the cover page usually tends to give a hint of what the book might be about. Sara Shepard is an American author who currently lives in Philadelphia. Her Pretty Little Liars series was inspired by her upbringing in Philadelphia’s Main Line. Sara Shepard is well known author that is famous for writing entertaining yet simple novels. Pretty Little Liars is not the only novel series she’s written, she has also written “ The Lying Game”, “Heiresses” and many more. Shepard is an author that inspires herself from actual events. She’s got the habit of sub creating new novels from old ones, which create a never ending book series that leaves everyone wanting more every time.


Since Perfect is a book from the Pretty Little Liars series, I think it’s important that we establish what the series is about. Pretty Little Liars is a story about five teen girls, Spencer Hastings, Hanna Marin, Aria Montgomery, Emily Fields, and Alison DiLaurentis. These five “best friends” fall into a deep hole after their head leader, Alison goes missing. Years later, all four of them try to live with the absence of their so missing “friend”, while fighting the guiltiness that drowns deep inside them. After Ali goes missing, they start to receive text messages by an anonymous sender “A” that threatens to reveal their secrets out to the world. Throughout the series, the girls fight the mysterious identity of “A”.  


Perfect in particular includes a taste of Alison’s last days before she goes missing, after three years. The book tends to portray continuous flashbacks back and forth. In Perfect, all four ex best friends encounter disappointments, confusions, discoveries, accomplishments, and struggles after Ali’s disappearance. Old characters make presence inside the book, and all these characters are unconditionally attached to the main characters which make the book very intense. The organization of book is divided into 37 chapters. Each chapter changes point of view. For example, Spencer might tell the story on chapter three while Aria tells it on chapter five. The point of view is definitely something that changes very frequently inside Perfect. The thing with Perfect is that it’s not written in a very fancy or high quality writing. It’s written in a very simplistic way that produces high quality entertainment. This book is without a doubt a very suspenseful and dramatizing experience. Almost to point of where it becomes addicting yet 100% satisfying.


Overall, on a scale from 1-10 I would give this book a perfect 10. I started the book around the middle of September and finished it before September finished. I literally spent hours and hours reading the book. It almost gets in the way of doing your daily routine. Once you start the book you can never put it down, which is why I finished the book so early. I’ve never actually watched Pretty Little Liars, but I knew it was out there so that’s why I chose this book. Everytime I get a book into my hands I tend to put it back in like a week, with Perfect that wasn’t possible. It’s so addicting. Once I finished the book, Sara left me wanting more. That’s why I didn't hesitate on picking up the next book. I don’t think I could actually pick a part that I didn't like. Sara tends to very descriptive with her writing, which is why I enjoyed this book.

If you’re a reader that enjoys drama, romance, suspense, non fiction, mystery, and a  bit of comedy, than you’re going to love this book. Just by reading one book, I automatically knew that I wanted to read more. On most novels, authors tend to start in a particular part of the series of where the reader is clueless about the characters/plot because of the lack of background information in a every book. With this book, I picked up very quickly, which made it more engaging. I tend to pick up novels that deal with suspense and mystery. Some of the novels tend to be very slow pace. Pretty Little Liars in the other hand, continues throughout time very quickly. The text inside Perfect is very simple yet satisfying. Once you pick up the book, you’re not going to stop. I guarantee it.

​Creative Piece: 

Throughout the series, the main characters fight the mysterious identity of “A”. A is mysterious, honest, and evil. I used cool colors around the letter A and warm colors on the outside. The cool colors amplify the darkness, evilness, and mysteriousness that A possesses. When A isn't around the community everything is bright, colorful, and peaceful. Which is why the warm colors are in the outside.


World History Portfolio 2014

What is a good student? How do you become a better student everyday? By collaborating? By participating? Becoming a better student for me is definitely by learning. I must admit that my biggest highlight in this year of world history has been a great learning experience. It wasn’t much of the informational facts, it was more as personal aspect as how you look at the world. One of the biggest accomplishments, if not the biggest accomplishment of this year in history class has been without a doubt the play I wrote about stereotypical views in societies. This play has definitely changed the way that I view myself as. Women and A Touch of Trophy is a play about the latin women stereotypes, and latinos in general.  Scarlett Castillo is a Colombian beautiful young girl who wins Miss Universe and tries to fight stereotypes while finding true love, forgiving her mother, and reliving her past. This play is a very long one, Kate McGrath has contributed immensely with revisions and has made the play better. It was my favorite thing to do in history class this year. Not only did I like writing this play, I now realize that I love writing plays! One of the quotes inside the play that I really liked was  “Coming from a Hispanic culture. When we think of trophy wives we immediately see an image of a rich old white man with a beautiful young woman on his arm”.This was a quote that gives a controversial side to the play. 



​In one of the units of world history class we studied revolutions.  We learned quite a lot of information about revolutions. We used guiding questions like; “What causes revolutions? What determines a successful revolution?” “Why are revolutions made?” From those guiding questions came a great project. We were assigned to make a digital story about revolutions. I decided and chose two guiding questions. What determines a revolution's success? How does media interact with a revolution? Based on these two questions I decided to focus on the way that leaders are interpreted in revolutions, and the censorship that plays in media. This project was definitely one of my favorite! Many of the media that saw during this project was that life changing and eye opening. 



The unit of Religion inside world history has been one of my favorite. In the beginning of the unit I thought that religion was just a mindset that was meant to be followed. I now realize that religion is a very touchy subject that many of us live of. “It’s a way of life”. To most of us it’s extremely important. Personally as being a catholic believer and follower it was very interesting to learn about the many religions out in the world. For this project I did a wiki page on Morals/Sins in Hinduism and Confucianism. Two completely different religions. This was a project of where I gained tons and tons of knowledge. I also enjoyed every aspect of learning, and the different views that are out in the world. 



 Also, another part that I enjoyed in history class was journaling. The journal prompts were varied in topics. Some of the topics didn’t even relate to school, and it was interesting the way that others shared their ideas. One of the journals that I enjoyed the most was about a reading called My Faith in Nonviolence (journal 28). I selected a quote and wrote about it. “Nonviolence is a weapon of the strong.” I really liked the way that the word nonviolence was being presented, as if nonviolence were  actually an object you could use to harm someone. Another journal I enjoyed was about how ideas become popular (journal 22). “Social media definitely plays a big role, when it comes to making something popular”. This quote was definitely the most important one I wrote inside my journal. Overall this year has been a great learning experience in all aspects. It was a very comfortable environment that I really enjoyed.

La Leyenda De La Serpiente

Habia una vez en un pueblo muy lejano que se llamaba “El Lugar del Primer Mundo.Había un solo Dios que decidía como el mundo sería apropiado. Un día Dios dijo “Hay que haber lindos pájaros para que le den color al cielo.  Y pajaros úbo. El día siguiente Dios dijo “ Hay que haber lindos conejos para corran y salten entre el pasto más verde del pueblo. Y conejos úbo. Así como fue pasando el tiempo, Dios hizo todas las especies que ahora existen en el pueblo “El Lugar del Primer Mundo.”


Un dia muy relampagoso Dios creó un organismo para que le diera compañía al los mamíferos. El creó a la serpiente. Como ese dia era muy triste y deprimente para Dios, el se canso de darle cualidades a la serpiente. No termino de hacer la serpiente como hizo con los otros animales del pueblo. Al otro dia el se sintio mal de salud, y recayó en la cama.


Esa misma tarde la serpiente cobró vida. Ella era larga de color café,con unos ojos del color de los árboles. Con una boca tan pequeña como el meñique del humano. No tenía pies, brazos, solo unos lindos dientes que reflejaban cada cosa que comía. Se deslizaba con una facilidad y era la más ágil de todos los animales en el Pueblo. Ella era muy feliz porque Dios le dio vida. Nada podría arruinarle la vida que ella llevaba. Todo iba como color de rosa.


Al siguiente día el elefante y la jirafa se juntaron para comer juntas. Cuando iban de regreso para sus casas se encontraron con la serpiente. Y por poco el enorme elefante pisaba a la pobre indefensa serpiente. Pero todo fue al revés. Cuando el elefante dio un paso infálso se distrajo y cayó tan duro en el suelo que se torció el cuello y murio instantáneamente. La jirafa lloró la muerte de su mejor amigo y prometió vengar su muerte. La jirafa le declaró la guerra a la pobre indefensa serpiente. Por tanto que la serpiente le pidió perdón, a la jirafa nadie le quitaba de la cabeza que la serpiente habia matado a su mejor amigo al proposito. La jirafa le advirtió a la serpiente que iba a llamar al caballo y a al mamut para que la mataran la proxima vez que la vieran. La serpiente asustada se deslizó tan rápido en el viento que escapó de la jirafa.


El día siguiente la serpiente visitó a Dios, pero el todavia estaba en cama. Ella le contó lo sucedido y le pidió ayuda. Ella no quería morir, y mucho menos por un malentendido. Como dios estaba enfermo,no podía ir para hablar con la jirafa y decidió algo rapido y facil. Le dijo a la serpiente que le iba dar veneno para que guardara en su lindo cuerpo y lo inyectara en cada cosa que le hiciera daño. El veneno que escupiera sería mortal y podría a matar hasta al animal más grande del pueblo. Pero había solo una condición, que nunca la usara para perjudicar a los otros animales. La pequeña indefensa serpiente aceptó y se tomó el jugo de limón que rápidamente se convirtio en veneno que incluso se reproducía en cuanto lo usaba. Esa misma noche busco a la jirafa y por última vez le dijo que fue una accidente lo que habia sucedido con el elefante. Ella no le creo y comenzó a atacar. La ágil serpiente se movió tan rápido y inyecto sus lindos dientes en la piel de la jirafa. El veneno hizo efecto en segundos y la jirafa calló y nunca se levantó.Después de esa noche el caballo y el mamut le avisaron a todos los animales del pueblo que la serpiente habia poseido veneno. Finalmente la serpiente nunca se sintió desprotegida e impotente. Todo mundo se mantenía alejada de la serpiente, porque podía atacar en los momentos más inesperados. Nadie nunca volvió a amenazar a la pequeña serpiente y todos la respetaban.

La Última Cena por Juan De Juanes

En este pedazo de interpretación que hare yo, se tratara de un cuadro muy famoso llamado, “La Última Cena” por Juan de Juanes. Yo, el padre McEnroe tengo muchas opiniones sobre este cuadro. Especialmente porque es unico e interesante. Yo soy un sacerdote que cree en la igualdad. Para mi los pobres y los ricos son seres humanos que se tienen que querer como una familia. Entiendo que vivimos en una era muy polémica.  Sin embargo, todos somos hijos de Dios, por lo tanto todos somos iguales. Desafortunadamente en la época en que yo vivo, las peras y las manzanas estan separadas. La división entre la clases sociales son feroces y hay mucha tensión. Aunque yo quisiera mezclar las peras con las manzanas no puedo. Solo soy un director de la Escuela Católica aquí en Chile. Solo soy un real sacerdote aquí en mi país.


En la obra de Juan de Juanes, “La Última Cena” hay un color que me llama mucho la tencion. Los apóstoles y Dios están en un cuarto que usa colores oscuros como el negro y el azul marino. Pero en el fondo, donde se ubican las ventanas hay colores brillantes como el azul cielo. Muchas de las caras de los apóstoles de Dios estan cubiertas por colores oscuros. El uso del color blanco solo esta usado para darle color al mantel de las mesa y la famosa ostia. El pan de Dios. Las manos de los apóstoles tienen una posición exacta que se repite conforme al apóstol. Tienen una forma de decir gracias. Las manas son extendidas y puestas juntas como cuando alguien va a resar. Por lo tanto, es una gran significancia en el estilo de arte de Juan de Juanes.


Muchos saben que en el 11 de Septiembre del 1973 en Chile ocurrió un golpe de estado. Tanto como las clases sociales y las amistades entre los países estaban separadas. Habia mucha tension y rivalidades. El presidente de Chile en 1973, Salvador Allende fue elegido democráticamente por votos libres. Como él era socialista, el ayudaba a los pobres. Por lo cual muchos no lo querían, incluyendo a los Estados Unidos. Los Estados Unidos donaron dinero a los militares para que derrocaran a Allende. Eso fue muy fuerte para mi, y para mi gente. Unos de los recuerdos que me vienen a la mente son los niños. Una cosa es tratarce duró entre adultos, pero otra muy distinta tratarce mal entre niños inocentes. Como dijo nuestro Señor alguna vez, los padres apoyarán y serán los líderes para los frutos que produzcan. Pondrán el ejemplo para guiarlos para al buen camino de dios. Si los padres no se respetan, como quieren que los ninos se respeten. Una de las cosas que me encanta del cuadro de Juan de Juanes es que Dios levanta la hostia con un gran poder. En el cuadro se nota como la hostia guia a la gente. Todos demuestran una gran intuición para comer la hostia. Eso es un signo de purificación al alma. Eso es lo que la gente de mi época necesitaba. Limpiar por completo la amargura y la envidia.


En el cuadro de Juan de Juanes me interesa mucho porque es muy diferente al cuadro original. En este cuadro refleja la maldad que se avecina por el uso de los colores dentro del cuarto de la última cena. La ventana al fondo es muy llamativa que concluye que a pesar de lo malo que se aproxima siempre va a ver una salida hacia el camino correcto. El enfoque del cuadro se limita al enfoque de la hostia. Los demás están muriendose por probar la hostia.Qué querrá representar las almas que quieren estar en paz. Cueste lo que cueste. La hostia es la salvación de las almas perdidas que viven en mundo que constantemente quieren cambiarlos.

Úrsula Hilaria Celia de la Caridad Cruz Alfonso de la Santísima Trinidad, también conocida como Celia Cruz nació el 21 de Octubre de 1925 en la Havana Cuba. Celia Cruz fue conocida como la reina de la salsa. Celia es famosísima por su contribución a la música latina como la salsa. Muchas de sus canciones como “Por Si Acaso No Regreso” eran espectaculares para la comunidad latina. Esa cancion “Por Si Acaso No Regreso” se trata de la inmigración. Más allá de la inmigración, trata de la vida propia de la guarachera de Cuba. Es la propia experiencia de la mismísima Celia Cruz. La canción interpreta a Celia como una gran leal cubana. Ella se va de su tierra para poner el nombre de Cuba en alto. Para que todos sepan de su Cuba querida. Celia piensa en regresar a su tierra luego de hacer su voluntad. Para ella el haber abandonado Cuba le duele profundamente. Si ella no regresa a Cuba estara bacia. Es básicamente lo que la canción “Por Si Acaso No Regreso” se trata.


La canción “Por Si Acaso No Regreso” interpretada de Celia Cruz es muy interesante. La canción trae un mensaje muy especial. No solo porque es sobre la inmigración pero trae letras desde Celia misma. Uno de los temas que Celia repite en la canción es cuando ella se va de Cuba. Para Celia Cuba es parte de su corazón. Ella dice “que por si acaso no regresa” de vuelta para Cuba  llevará siempre la sangre Cubana. Nunca se olvidara sus raíces y la tierra que la vio nacer. Una de las líneas que ella dice en la canción presenta los estereotipos que la gente tiene sobre Cuba. Pero ella menciona y asegura que adonde quiera que ella vaya va a desaprobar esos estereotipos. Ella va a mostrar que bajo la corrupción de Cuba con Fidel Castro, Cuba es un lugar de paz y tranquilidad. Celia demuestrara una parte de Cuba que todos no conocen y les dejara claro quién es Celia Cruz.  Una de las líneas que me llamó la atención fue “cuando me muera,que en mi tumba pongan mi bandera”. Esta línea es muy poderosa. Ella básicamente está diciendo que Cuba estará siempre con ella hasta la muerte. Eso es puro orgullo y admirable.


Cuando yo por primera vez escuché esta pieza me encanto. Me gusto el ritmo de suavidad del coro. Cuando leía la letra de la cancion me conecté mucho con ella. Como un emigrante latino pude entender el papel que decía Celia en su canción. Personalmente conozco muchas personas que cuando llegaron a los Estaod Unidos se olvidaron por completo de sus raíces latinas. Entiendo que quisieron tratar de encajar con los niños Americanos pero, para mi es muy importante y significativo tener mi realidad presente.Por eso esque no estaba de acuerdo con ellos. No los juzgaba duramente, pero les decía mi opinion. No solo porque vine a los Estados Unidos se ignifica que voy a cambiar quien soy. Por lo contrario, aceptar y apoyar quién soy y de donde vengo. Al fin de acabo es una cultura que tiene que causar orgullo como lo dijo Celia en la canción “Por Si Acaso No Regreso.” Quiero ser reconocida y representada por quien soy, no por lo que no soy.  

Revolution Guidebook Project

​In this unit of world history class we studied revolutions.  We learned quite a lot of information about revolutions. We used guiding questions like; What causes revolutions? What determines a successful revolution? Why are revolutions made? From those guiding questions came a great project. We were assigned to make a digital story about revolutions. 


I decided and chose two guiding questions. What determines a revolution's success? How does media interact with a revolution? Based on these two questions I decided to focus on the way that leaders are interpreted in revolutions, and the censorship that plays in media. This project was definitely one of my favorite!

Yo vivo en el sur de Philadelphia Pa. Yo vello viviendo allí por 4 años. Por donde yo vivo hay mucha gente de muchas culturas ; hay muchas tiendas y es muy tranquilo. Lo que a mi me gustas que no hay basura en las banquetas. Mucha gente sale a barrer su casa por las mañanas para que la calle se vea bien. Lo que no me gusta es que a mis vecinos no les gusta el ruido. Pero por lo principal me gusta donde vivo porque la gente es muy buena e respetuosa. Todos los vecinos se llevan muy bien. Unos temas importantes en mi comunidad es la raza. Por eso, cuando pienso en mi barrio, me vienen imágenes como la diversidad. En mi comunidad hay eventos significativos como los “mummers”. No hay otros eventos en el que yo me acuerde. Sin embargo, si mis padres quisieran cambiarse de barrio, yo me iría. Pienso que tenemos la oportunidad de vivir en lugares diferentes.Si tuviera la oportunidad de pintar un mural en mi comunidad sería en Front y Oregon 19148.  Yo pintaría mi mural en esa parte de mi comunidad porque mucha gente pasa por aquí. Por lo que significa que mucha gente podrá ver el mensaje que yo trato de transmitir. Es un buen lugar porque esta junto a tiendas alrededor. Es un lugar en que la pintura no esta presente y necesita un poco de arte.

    Para mi el arte es todo. Todo lo que haces tiene que ver con el arte. Pienso que el arte es un tema muy controversial por lo cual contiene muchas opiniones. La mayoría de personas no clasifican el arte de la calle (el graffiti) como arte. Pero mucha gente no ve la importancia del arte público. Lo que la gente no ve es que la arte pública es muy rica en temas de la comunidad. Hay muchos que solo clasifican el arte cuando está en los museos.  Si alguien pintara arte de la calle en un cuadro, y después lo pusiera en el museo. La gente que no clasificaba el arte de calle como arte,cambiaría de opinión. Pienso que la ubicación de el arte tiene mucho que ver. Sin embargo, el mural que yo creé lo clasificó como arte. Por lo que dije anteriormente. Todo es arte!

  Mi mural concluye de dos cosas. El dibujo,y las palabras que están alrededor de la persona. Yo dibuje al famosísimo artista de pop, Justin Bieber. Pero este es un Justin muy diferente. Cuando a Justin lo arrestaron en Miami por DUI, consumo de marijuana, alcohol. Y manejar con una licencia expirada. Hubo mucha controversia. En mi opinión pienso que  hizo decisiones muy estúpidas y no consideradas. Y no estoy de acuerdo.A pesar de ser un belieber, or un fan. No lo justifico. Por eso es que dibuje a Bieber cuando le tomaron un mugshot de lado.Después añadí palabras en inglés que representará la controversia que el esta enfrentando. Le cubrí los ojos con la palabra “censored” o “censurado”. Porque muchos pueden ser esa persona. Muchos pueden ver mi cuadro y reflejarse en la pintura. Pinte a Justin cuando le tomaron el mugshot para mandar un mensaje. Hay muchos adolescentes en Philadelphia y el mundo  que conducen con alcohol y marihuana en su cuerpo que también pueden matar a personas inocentes. Después de ver a Justin una persona famosa y joven pueden ver que hizo mal por ser egoista. Quizá reflejen y digan “Yo no haré lo mismo.”. Sin embargo, también pueden ponerse el lugar de Justin y ver la controversia que el esta enfrentando. No es fácil. Pero el lo invocó.

    El mural que yo creé es espléndido. No es porque yo lo había a dibujado. Es buenísimo.En mi opinión pienso que el cuadro que yo hice llena las cualidades para que sea considerado como arte pública, o arte de la calle. La mayoría de gente  pueden ver el mensaje que trato de conducir. Es significativo. Especialmente en Philadelphia. Que hay muchos jóvenes. En mi opinión, es un cuadro que puede ser interpretado individualmente. Por lo tanto pueden tener muchas opiniones. Muchos pensarán que es una obsesión con Justin por eso es que lo escogí a él. Pero no. Es reflejar en tu artista favorito y aprender algo que quisieras que no hubiera hecho. Para que tú no lo hagas lo mismo.

Figura de la Revolución Mexicana: Emiliano Zapata era uno de los grandes líderes durante la Revolución Mexicana. Fue una de las personas mas importantes que ayudo a derribar la dictadura de Porfirio Diaz.

 Yo soy Esperanza Gonzalez. Yo bengo de una cultara cultura latina. Habla español con fluidez. Para empezar. Mis padres estan todavía casados. Mi padre se llama Carlos y mi madre se llama Melissa. Tengo 2 hermanos muy fastidiosos. Uno se llama Eduardo, y el otro Daniel. Mi familia es muy unida, y me llevo bien con todos. Sobre todo con madre. Ella me entiende, y me brinda el apoyo que yo siempre espero. Somos muy compatibles. Mi padre es muy generoso porque todo lo que le pido me lo da. Soy su consentida. La persona que siempre me fastidia diariamente es mi hermano Carlos. El nunca se sabe callarse la boca, siempre esta hablando. Pero no quiere decir que no me agrade. Por el otro lado, mi hermano Eduardo tiene 7 años, y es muy gracioso. Siempre tiene una sonrisa en su cara que me encanta.

    Me gusta ser amable porque quiero que otra gente tenga la mejor impressión de mi.Lo que todo mundo no ve. Para empezar, soy muy generosa porque simpre pienso en los demas. Me siento muy bien cuando ayudo a las personas porque es voluntad. Aveces soy misteriosa con la gente que no me conoce. Dicen muchos que soy callada y timida en la escuela, yo pienso que asi no tengo nada que decir. Sobretodo soy muy comprensiva y soy una buena consejera. Me gusta escuchar a los demas. Pienso que soy una buena escuchadora. A mi tambien me gusta, y soy una persona tradicional. Todos piensan que soy muy justa, y pero sobretodo honesta. Soy una persona que le gusta decir lo que piensa. No importa si a alguien no esta de acuerdo.Siempre sor firma con mis ideas. Porsupuesto que siempre considero las opiniones de los demas. Ademas de todo soy muy respetousa.

    Una de mis mejores amistades es con mi mejor amiga. Mi mejor amiga es muy amable. Siempre es muy responsable y viste muy bién! Siempre es muy comprensiva y me da muchos consejos cuando los necesitó. Ella no es falsa porque te dice las cosas como son, sin rodeos. Te lo dice de frente y es muy honesta. Sobretodo es muy inteligente, su vocabulario is muy avanzado. Ella abla muy bien es español aunque no sea latina. Ella le molesta cuando alguien le trata decir que hacer,  porque es muy independinete. Tenemos el mismo gusto en muchas cosas, no en todas pero casi siempre. Yo me llevo bien con todos  mis profesores. Specialmente con señor Kay. Yo me llevo bien con el porque es muy gracioso y siempre quiere saber lo que estas pensando. Me cae bien la señorita Manuel porque simpre te ayuda cundo tienes una pregunta. Sin embargo pienso que todos los profesores tienen algo que los hace unicos y autenticos. Yo pienso que las qualidades son las mas importantes.Sin embargo pienso que las relaciones familiares tambien soy muy importantes. Yo me llevo espectacular con mis padres. Sobretodo con madre. Ella me entiende. Me sabe escuchar y me da muy buenos consejos. Por el otro lado mi padre es muy generoso porque todo lo que le pido me lo da. Pienso que soy su hija preferida. 

   Tengo muchas característicás que no se pueden ver. Solamente se ven por dentro. Lo que todo mundo no ve es que me siento muy bien cuando ayudo a las personas porque es voluntad. Algunas veces soy misteriosa con la gente que no me conoce. Me gusta ser conservada. Dicen muchos que soy callada y timida en la escula. Creo que no me conocen bien todovía! Cuando yo conozco a alguien y me siento cómoda, es cuando puedo ser todo lo contrario. Tengo cosas que me dan miedo, por ejemplo los gatos. Odio a los gatos. Ellos me dan miedo. Es un poco raro pero si, me dan miedo. Mi animal favorito son las jirafas. Me encantan. Pero para tener una mascota prefiero a los perros porque son mas amigables y menos feos. Hay tambien cosas que me molestan sobretodo las personas que no son organizadas y personas falsas. Sin embargo, yo me llevo bién con todo el mundo. Soy muy agradable. Lo que muchas personas no saven esque soy muy responsable sobretodo cuando se trata de la escuela. Siempre quiero tener las mejores calificaciónes, por que me gusta ser mejor. Pero no lo paresco. No esque me creo mejor que todos, porque no es intencional. Me gusta superarme. Tambíen lo que no parezco, esque me gusta tener 2 lenguajes. Especialmente el español. Es un lenguaje increible y dificil para unas personas. 

      Yo soy Esperanza Gonzalez y soy una persona muy responsable e independiente. Soy una persona que le gusta ser si misma a toda costa. También una persona que le gusta ayudar a la gente, pero sobretodo ser amable con todos. Sin embargo, también me gusta ser superior. La idea que quise usar para mi máscara es la forma de una jirafa. Escogí la cara de una jirafa porque me encanta el animal, y me gusta la forma de su piel. Me gustan sus colores porque reflejan tranquilidad e independencia.

Yo, Esperanza Gonzalez tengo muchas característicás que se pueden usar para describir me. Ahora no voy a escribir me fisicamente, yo voy a describirme por dentro. Lo que todo mundo no ve. Para empezar, soy muy generosa porque simpre pienso en los demas. Me siento muy bien cuando ayudo a las personas porque es voluntad. Aveces soy misteriosa con la gente que no me conoce. Dicen muchos que soy callada y timida en la escula. Creo que no me conocen bien todovía! Pero lo admito, si me gusta ser callada porque casi no tengo nada que decir. Muchos también dícen que soy graciosa. Yo me considero graciosa. Sobretodo soy muy comprensiva y soy una buena consejera. Tambien tengo cosas que me dan miedo, por ejemplo los gatos. Mi mejor amiga es muy amable. Siempre es muy responsable y viste muy bién! Siempre es muy comprensiva y me da muchos consejos cuando los necesitó. Ella no es falsa porque te dice las cosas como son, sin rodeos. Te lo dice de frente y es muy honesta. Sobretodo es muy inteligente, su vocabulario is muy avanzado. Ella abla muy bien es español aunque no sea latina. Ella le molesta cuando alguien le trata decir que hacer,  porque es muy independinete.       On this unit we studied different ways that humans can interact with the environment. We had a mixture of different things including the XL keystone pipeline. I learned many different things this unit including a great amount of  XL keystone pipeline background information. 


     There’s many facts about the XL keystone pipeline but there’s 5 facts that you should know. First of all, XL keystone pipeline can carry oil from Canada all the way tot the gulf of Mexico. It will travel almost 1700 miles long.This pipeline will generate and reach 900,00 jobs by 2025 half of them in the USA. XL keystone will be the safest and the most stringently regulated pipeline ever!  XL keystone pipeline will generate 134.6 million dollars in taxes that can support schools, hospital districts, and other local programs. Although there’s always a possibility that if this pipeline isn’t built the right way it can leak and might go thru the Great Plains, which is one of the principal water sources. 

Monologue #1 

I'm Pregnant?!! 

(The actor closes the door of the doctor’s office. Sits down on a chair outside with the other people waiting for the doctor.). OH MY GOD! I’m pregnant. I mean is that good… or is it bad, considering that my sister doesn’t know that I slept with her man. I don’t know to feel right now.. I always wanted a baby, and with the man I love, but it’s different this time. My sister and I share the same man. Ricardo always wanted a boy, but the day he went inside my bedroom he said he just wanted to “ release stress”. I don’t know what he meant due to the fact that I just turned 19. My sister is already married with the man I love. I don’t know if.. if.. if.. she’ll understand me. I guess I’m just going to tell her that her that he raped me.. and then.. and then.. and then.. everyone will be happy! NO! (slaps on the face). Although we are already poor, and my sister and I are going to depend on the same man, therefore.. um.. he’ll obviously need to work more. I mean, last time I checked, many of the neighbors were  talking about how this weird pipeline, I think it was called.. keystone something ..XL pipeline. I think it was a possible thing that can be used to transport oil from Canada and other things.. I don’t quite remember. Maybe the owner would want thousands of construction workers. And.. of course Ricardo will be one of them. Although I had this stupid idea. There’s already too much shit on the water these days, if that thing leaks.. ahaa..(starts laughing suddenly),  nevermind. It would never leak, important people are planning those things. Whatever, I’ll just count on that pipeline thing or whatever it’s called. Should I tell my sister? Or not? .. umm I think that the right thing to do is tell her. If..she finds out it’ll be worst. I’m telling her the truth. Even though I’ll hurt her deeply. One thing is for sure, Ricardo needs that construction job as soon as possible! UGHHHH ! (takes deep breath) I need to calm down before it’s too late, and commit some type of scene in front of all these people. Okay 1-2-3…(takes deep breath). I’m going home and telling Ricardo everything, and it’s all going to be alright (Takes deep breath and leaves the hospital). 

Monologue #2 

My Daddy ! 

(The bell rings, and waits for all the kids to exit the classroom.) Hey! Hey ! Did you drop that? Oh yeah, I forgot that those type of kids don’t like me. Oh well. Like I care. I’m rich and handsome. They’re all ugly anyway. No one likes them either, AHA. I don’t care what anyone has to say or think about my daddy, he’s perfect.  (Exits the classroom fast to avoid the kids.Finds the last lunch table outside near the playground, and starts to eat lunch ). Many of those kids won’t talk to me just because my dad is the owner of the XL keystone pipeline committee. (Stares at the other kids playing). My daddy knows what he’s doing, he says that if this project gets done he’ll buy me that motorcycle I always wanted. AND GOSH, I want that motorcycle ! So many ungrateful kids in this school that they can only think negatives about my daddy’s project. They have to understand that not only will this project benefit me.. but I think he said that it would support the significant growth of crude oil production in the U.S.A. And like ..a few minutes ago Mrs. Mann just done talking about how our country is full of consumers… I mean, she even said I was a consumer. If didn’t know what she meant. Honestly I think she’s crazy, I only throw away what’s not useful to me. Although when she started talking about how this pipeline can contaminate the drinking water, then it was when I started.. I started… when I started to reflect. If the pipeline starts to leak my daddy will be in serious problems. Like Mrs. Mann said, we are either ; slowly killing the earth, or were making a difference. I honestly do care about the environment, but daddy is always talking about how he wants and wants and wants more money.Um.. I think I have to talk to my daddy about this. It’s a serious thing that if it goes wrong, mommy is going to be very mad about. Those kids over there deserve respect and their families too, and I have to understand that maybe those families have their reasons for not wanting this project but it’s hard for me to understand that. My dad is my hero and I would never like to see him fail, he really wants this thing done, I guess I’m just scared to tell my daddy that sometimes I don’t agree with him. He would never forgive me, so I have to maintain him happy. (bell rings and starts to go inside the classroom again). 


Monologue # 3 

I Quit !

(Stands outside with a serious face on with a gun in his hand). Hey boss ! Yeah I know, if anyone gets near the house I have orders to arrest them… and yes sir, I know that..that..if I don’t get this job done there will be consequences... Ughh.. (takes deep breath) thank god he left..I hate everyone! If you weren’t my boss you wouldn’t continue to live right now.. but now I have to take care of business. What should I get for lunch today, a big mac, some cheesedicks, lunchables, or maybe..I don’t know.. HEYYYY!! HEYY! You in the red, you can’t pass beyond this point. If you don’t like it, I’ll have to arrest you. Look I do understand the fact that you and your friends are here because you want to stop the pipeline but there’s nothing I can about it. I just want to do my job, so please step away… thank you. Ugh. I hate this job.. and the people that make this job harder. I don’t even want to be here, if wasn’t for my daughter that needs the money, I would quit. Ughh.. Sometimes I wonder why so many people gather together for this one little thing. Maybe it’s because (looks around the area) everything is just so fucked. Our land, water, air and even our bodies are contaminated by pollution and all of that shit including fossil fuels. (Looks behind him, at the white house) and.. what can I say about them! The people inside of there are so corrupt, that wealth and power makes them blind, it sickens me.  Maybe the people (turns around to the protesters) there are standing up to speak out for the protection of their families, and friends.. but..but..most important for the earth we were blessed with! UGHH! I’m always so and so angry at the world.Every time I think about it,  maybe it’s because I have to accept the fact that they still have that spirit that died in me a while ago. About change, about changing this world. Maybe I don’t want them to fight for what they believe in, because I couldn’t do it, so they can’t either!  (takes deep breath and looks down at the ground)  It’s nobody else’s fault but mine. I’m the one who failed, why should they? There is nobody to blame than me, I deserved what I earned, and now I have to live with it.(Puts head down and takes deep breath).  OHHH! Yes sir, I heard you. Look I’m trying my best, you don’t have to keep yelling at me.  I wasn’t going to arrest that poor woman.. what do you mean why not?.. I.. I.. quit. If you want to fire me, go ahead. You’ll have my written waiver first thing tomorrow. And sir, I’m gladly informing you that I’m joining the protest this afternoon because I don’t want to make the same mistake again.. Umm what mistake? Oh.. don’t worry about it, I know my business.And sir, have a lovely day. (walks away, winks and then smiles).

Yo soy Esperanza Gonzalez. Yo soy muy amable con la gente que me rodea. No lo hago por nessecidad, si no por gusto. Yo soy cariñosa con la gente que quiero. Ademas me gusta ser amable porque quiero que otra gente tenga la mejor impression de mi. Yo nunca me gusta ser falsa, porque no hay nessecidad para esó. Ablando de mi familia de nuevo, yo me llevo espectacular con mis padres. Sobretodo con madre. Ella me entiende, y me brinda el apollo que llo simpre espero. Mi padre es muy generoso porque todo lo que le pido me lo da. Soy su consentida. Sobretodo un nuevo par de zapatos cada semana. La persona que simpre me fastidia diaramente es mi hermano Carlos. El nunca se sabe callar la boca, simpre esta hablando. No quiere decir que no me agrade, sin embargo lo quiero mucho. Por el otro lado, mi hermano Eduardo tine 7 años, y es muy chistoso. ​Creative Piece : Perks Of Being A Wallflower is a book by Stephen Chbosky. Charlie is the main character and he writes to an anonymous person. This book is written as a letter format and it's told by first person point of view. I decided to respond to all of his letters, writing only one letter to Charlie. I made the paper look old and added minor touches so it looked like it was written in 1992. 

Element Project

In Mrs. Hull’s art class we created a drawing based on an element in the periodic table. During this process many things were difficult, but I was lucky enough to overcome them instantly. When I first started this project, I had many questions. Like, how I was going to create the print into the paper, the history behind the element, in order for me to create a unique picture so that it somewhat related to the element. I stated some inquiry. I then researched the history behind the element and found out that the element Ruthenium is a very rare, hard, lustrous, brittle, silvery-white metal. It is one of the top 6 rarest elements in earth. Therefore I decided to draw a unicorn. Unicorns are rare. That was my second idea, but it was my best. In order for me to make a decision I had to collaborate with my colleagues to help me pick the best idea. I had three ideas, and the unicorn idea was the one they encouraged me to do. I also liked that idea, so I choose to draw the unicorn. Since I’m an artist, I always mat my drawings. I really enjoyed matting this particular drawing because I’ve never done this type of drawing. Presentation came in, every artist has to present their drawing the best way possible, matting this drawing presents the drawing in a professional way. Like I said, I never did a project like this before. The process of this element drawing, has taken a long time, but it’s been worth it. I learned many things. Including a combination of science and art. It’s been great.

         Hello there! It’s me once again! As you guys know for my You and The World project I was fortunate enough to make a difference on a cause that I personally picked, teen suicide due to bullying. This is my final post on my journey with teen suicide due to bullying. On this final blog post I will be informing you about my agent of change part.


      What I did for my agent of change part was quite interesting and fun! I presented a movie called “Bully”. Bully is a 2011 documentary film about bullying in U.S schools. I presented this movie to my advisory and we watched it for 3 advisories. After the movie ended we had an awesome discussion. The room was set up very different from the one in a classroom. We had chairs around in a circle so everyone had the opportunity to see each other and focus when a person was talking. We had a very productive discussion. We discussed the movie and the topic as well. Some of the questions were;  how did this experience changed them in some sort of way, what they learned about bullying etc. Most important, how this experience changed their point of view. I was very impressed with the stupendous responses I received. The discussion went incredible.



        


   This whole process to me overall was incredible! I’ve never done anything like this ever in my life! Out of all the projects I’ve done, this one turned out to be one of my favorites. I felt very productive at all times during this project. I felt an immense satisfaction with myself as a person because I knew that what I did, was right. I took a bit of my time to impact other teens. During this project I’ve changed a couple things. I wasn’t thinking of presenting the “bully” movie, nor having a discussion with my advisory. I was originally going to join a walking marathon in philadelphia to raise awareness about teen suicide due to bullying. I was going to originally do the walk. It was very hard for to me decide, because I wanted to do both. I took time to think about what I was going to do my for agent of change. Finally I got drafted to the best option, which was to present the movie to advisory.During this experience, many things went well for me. The discussion went extremely well, and I was very proud of the outcome. I’m a shy and quiet person, therefore I was very nervous when it came to the discussion. Specially because I was in charge of keeping the conversation going, but most important; leading the discussion. Since this was a project that I had to present I felt that I had to code switch. Especially because I was talking about a very important topic; It had to be treated with seriousness. Having a discussion about what dress looks better, is very different to a conversation about bullying. It’s still a conversation with teens but just with different restrictions. Other than that, the movie turned out to be enjoyable by the audience, so that went pretty well. Although there was some difficulties, I tried my best to encounter them. During the movie, there was too many interversions along the way.Technical difficulties were always present, but I tried to make the best of it.

  

When I first started to look for an idea, I thought of bullying right away. I knew it was a very common world issue and I wanted to become part of it. I knew that bullying was bad but I didn’t think it was a big deal. I always knew that I if I wasn’t the one being bullied, than I was in good shape. I only thought of myself. I know realize that it just takes one person to be the difference. The minor things can support another person, and you never realize that. I see myself as a new person. You and The World shooked me in the way that I was very surprised. It changed me in a good way, I’m very fortunate. While I was watching the movie, Bully, I felt some type of way when I reflected myself as one of the bystanders. If you guys don’t know, a bystander is someone who knows what’s being done to you, but doesn’t step up to help you. It haunts me think that as I was being a bystander someone could’ve taken their life. Consideration, is the word that lives in my heart.I understand that bullying doesn’t take one day to end. It’s a process that I’m willing to take, because it all starts with one. Now, I see myself in the community as someone who both; is still learning and who prefers to follow and collaborate in a group. I believe that you can learn new things every day, although I did explore teen suicide and bullying deep in length I still believe that I can learn new things. Specially if I collaborate with other people, it think in this particular case I rather be a follower than a leader. It all adds up to one thing. What do I take from this experience. This experience has been incredible even the littlest things. It has made me reflect as a human being. It has made me grow and think outside the box. I’m extremely proud of the person I am today. You and The World has been no doubt, Amazing.

Negative Space

What is negative space?

a. Negative space is the empty space, space around an object or form.



Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out?, 2. in your still life drawing?

b. The way I found negative space in my cut out was very easy. I look at the opposite color and I knew that the cut out was suppose to be a reflection of the original picture. The way I found negative in the still life drawing was kinda difficult, because there were lines involved and gaps that I necessarily didn't know if they were negative or not. 



Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?

c. I think that negative space could help an artist because they can observe the actual picture to more in length, it helps define the object and help create interest and contrast. 



Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not?

d. Seeing in negative space enhance drawings because it gives objects their own space to express themselves, increases accuracy in the picture. It gives the viewer a sense of comfort, and an easy clear understanding to where everything is.

Final Perspective Drawing

What is one thing that your learned specifically that you did not know before.


This project was very efficient, it increased my artistic skills since I’m an artist. The one thing I learned was to draw in one point perspective. It was very hard at the beginning because every line has to connect to your vanishing point. 

How did leaning this thing make your drawings better?


Learning to draw in one point perspective is going to make my drawings better because it gives them an extra touch of greatness. It gives them a 3 dimensional perspective to the viewer.My drawings are already great, but learning new information could always make my drawings close to perfect.

If you did this assignment again, what would you do differently?


The one thing I would differently about this drawing would definitely be to redraw the stools. I had a little trouble with the stools, and I think I could do better. 

What is your advice to someone who has never drawn a one point perspective drawing before?


My advice to someone who has never drawn a one point perspective would be to take their time and try not to get frustrated easily. Drawing a one point perspective drawing takes time, in which sometimes can be trouble to people.

What resource helped you the most and why?


I didn’t actually used resources in the web. My kind colleagues helped me out when I had trouble with a part of the drawing. Explaining and demonstrating were great.

Macbeth Creative Piece

​This a creative piece that shows Macbeth's downfall experience. I decided to draw for my creative piece. These two drawings are drawn by me. I decided to draw these two pictures because I thought it was pretty interesting connection to the book. In the first drawing I have the trees on the bottom and the hill with a sword at the top. During Macbeth, he said that the only way he'll be destroyed was if  The Birman Wood marched to Dunsinane Hill, we all know that trees can't walk, therefore this would never happen. In the second drawing I interpret the trees actually walking up to the hill. This means that Macbeth if finally destroyed and taken down. My process of this creative piece, was rough. I spend 5 hours drawing both pieces. The one thing I would change about this would be the background, I think I could of done more than just black and white. I learned that it’s very difficult to interpret someone else’s work without having them explain it you. It all makes sense after. What I learned about myself was that I’m capable of drawing both drawings in one day. I never knew that I could actually finish both pieces in one day. It took a long time, but the effort I put in to it, reflects the quality of my work.

     Hello everyone! This is my second blog post for; You And The World. As you may know my issue is teen suicide due to bullying. In my first blog post, I informed you everything you need to know about teen suicide due to bullying. For those of you who didn’t view it, you can view my first blog post here. Ever since my last post I’ve found new research that relates to teen suicide. I also decided to do my own research by creating a survey with various questions for teens. 



    I decided to explore more about teen suicide, that isn’t due to bullying. According the Wexner Medical Center, suicide risk factors vary with age, gender, and cultural and social influences and may change over time. Risk factors for suicide frequently occur in combination with each other. The following are some suicide risk factors that may be present:



  • one or more diagnosable mental or substance abuse disorders
  • impulsive behaviors
  • undesirable life events or recent losses (parental divorce)
  • family history of mental or substance abuse disorder
  • family history of suicide
  • family violence, including physical, sexual, or verbal/ emotional abuse
  • prior suicide attempt
  • firearm in the home
  • incarceration or the detention of a person in prison
  • exposure to the suicidal behavior of others, including family, peers, in the news, or in fiction stories.

    Research after research, I’ve became more curious. I wanted to find out about teen suicides before the year 2,000. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (nami), here are some of the few facts I found:

 

  • In 1996, more teenagers and young adults died of suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia and influenza, and chronic lung disease combined.
  • In 1996, suicide was the second-leading cause of death among college students, the third-leading cause of death among those aged 15 to 24 years, and the fourth- leading cause of death among those aged 10 to 14 years.
  • From 1980 to 1996, the rate of suicide among African-American males aged 15 to 19 years increased by 105 percent.

     It is a hopeful sign that while the incidence of suicide among adolescents and young adults nearly tripled from 1965 to 1987, teen suicide rates in the past ten years have actually been declining, possibly due to increased recognition and treatment. 


       Taking research into my own hands, I’ve created a survey called “Teen Suicide.” This survey was answered by 59 teens. According to the survey 48 people out of 59 didn’t know anyone who died from committing suicide and didn’t help to prevent it. Which was awesome! In the other hand, 42 people out of 59 are unaware of the frequency of teen suicide in the United States. Also, 46 people out of 59 said that they were once bullied in their life. It’s unbelievable! Fortunately when asked “ What do you do when you see a person getting bullied? “ 38 people out of 59 answered, “ Tell an adult.” Seventeen people out of 59 answered “ Watch, and keep it to yourself." Only 12 people answered “ Participate in the action.” 


        Some of the responses on this survey affected me. They were quite confusing. For example, I couldn’t believe that amount of people who took the survey were bullied. It was more than half! I didn’t expect this. Also, I thought it was very surprising that some  people would actually answer “ Participate it the action “ when asked, “ What do you do when you see a person get bullied? “ That was quite unexpected. 


    Next time, I would be writing the last and final blog post. Action will be taken. I’m planning to do volunteer work for my agent of change.

My name is Esperanza Gonzalez. For tech class we were responsible for creating a individual slide based on the coat of arms we created in English class.  The purpose of the slide was that it had to be eye catching, legible, easy to understand, and able to be remembered by the viewer. I wanted One Direction to be my focus because they’re the best! One Direction itself is eye catching.  I wanted the pictures to stand out so I choose to do a pattern with the pictures. I chose red because it’s my favorite color and I also wanted to contrast the font so I made it white. I wanted to use a shade of black at the top to catch the viewers eye.That was slide for tech class.

This lettering was more easy for the viewers eye. My past slide consisted of different fonts. I kept everything in the same place. The contrast of the font stood out in the red. The pictures are well aligned and eye catching. That was my slide for tech class.

You and the World Blog Post #1

  What pops in your mind when you hear the work “Internet’’? I bet your most common answer would be; Facebook, twitter, Instagram, Google, or even youtube. Right? Well..the internet is tool that everyone uses around the world. Although it can extremely helpful, but also very efficient to bullies. Bullies can cause harm to those innocent ones, and those innocent ones can commit suicide. The internet is one of the few tools bullies use to harass other people. I’ve heard numerous stories about teenagers committing suicide due to bullying, but didn’t seem to care. I didn’t think it was a big deal. Time after time, the number of suicides became to increase larger and larger. Mrs. Dunn, my English teacher introduced a project called “You And The World.” You and the world is a project based on a specific topic of your choosing and making a difference in the world. I decided to choose a topic that interested me! I knew exactly what I was going to do, which was “Teen Suicide”.


        Suicide is the process of purposely ending one's own life. Bullying is typically defined as the “ongoing physical or emotional victimization of a person by another person or group of people.” However there is also another type of bullying which is called “Cyber-bullying.” Cyber-bullying is when people use technology to harass and emotionally harm other people. There are several reasons that may lead a teenager to commit suicide, but the most common factor is depression. What a person might feel during depression could be hopelessness and anxiety, along with feelings of being trapped in a life that one can't handle. Therefore leading to teen suicide. In some cases they feel that taking their life away is the best solution to their problem and also some teenagers look at suicide as a “welcome escape.” According to the statistics reported by the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention every 13.7 minutes someone in the United States dies by suicide. U.S. Nationally, the suicide rate increased 3.9 percent over 2009 to equal approximately 12.4 suicides per 100,000 people. Nearly 1,000,000 people make a suicide attempt every year. About 30,000 people reportedly kill themselves each year in the United States. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for people 10-24 years of age. According to the a whole different study, 78 percent of adolescents who committed suicide were bullied both at school and online, while only 17 percent were targeted online only. Another statistic provided by Medicine Net “Suicide is the eighth leading cause of death in males and the 16th  leading cause of death in females”. The rate of suicide has been increasing since 2000. This is the highest rate of suicide in 15 years!

Some of the effects our loved ones can have is feeling blamed for what has happened. Wondering if they could’ve prevented it. Feeling guilty for the committed suicide. Other factors that may contribute to teen suicide could include; divorce in parents, violence at home, inability to find success at school, feeling unworthy, rejection by friends or peers, and death of someone close to the teenager. The various signs that a teenager can show when they’re in the process of suicide includes the following; plans ways to kill him or herself, dramatic changes in personality or behavior, sign of depression, begins to act recklessly, give away sentimental possessions, loose of appetite, talk about suicide or death in general or even having sleeping habits.

    Some of the ways that we can prevent suicide is by showing unconditional love and support to the person, understanding and respecting their feelings. Convincing that there’s a way to overcome their fears and showing complete thoughtfulness to help out. There’s also other choices such as medication, counseling, health professional, residential treatment, or spiritual advisor. In the Boston Children’s Hospital there’s a treatment offered to teenagers who are suicidal at a young age, which is called Psychotherapy.


     Suicide is the worst way that a teenager can die from. I hate the fact that right now as I’m writing this paper, there’s teenagers right now attempting to commit suicide. It makes me feel emotional and determined make a difference to prevent suicide. I’m willing to donate my time to this topic and leaving with a feeling of success and satisfaction once this project ends.

Assignment #2 Reflection Blog.

My home network is very simple to explain and understand, specially the devices that are connected to the internet. I have 3 iphones, 2 ipods, a sidekick, mac book pro, and Hp touchscreen laptop. I give internet signals to all of these 8 devices. What I learned about networks is that you they’re numerous things that you need to know about them, including how they get to your house or residence. There’s many inappropriate things that people outside do ,such as; stealing your internet connection. There’s also strict rules that are meant to be followed and if you don’t ,there’s very severe consequences. What I found interesting was that the littlest things that you seem like nothing severe but in reality they’re serious! It’s crazy! Something that I would tell other people that they need to know about an ISP/ Home network is where it all comes from. They need to know where their connection comes from, and how it enters and gives internet to their devices. They need to know that because what if their internet stops working?  They’ll know that without a modem there’s no wireless connection. But most of all, the internet. That’s that main thing. How it comes to your house!

This is my home- network. My ISP is Verizon, and it enters my house. Then, it's connected to my modem. From this modem I receive the connection of what's called " ethernet ". To be able to able to connect this modem, I use a the cat 5. From there I get connection to the internet with my wireless router airport. From the internet connection I get internet to an 3 iphones, 2 ipods, a sidekick, mac book pro, and hp touchscreen laptop. Since my printer prints wirelessly, I don not need a USB cable to print. And that was my home- network! Bye :)
