Long Road Podcast (Final Episode)
This podcast was the last podcast of the three episode Long Road Podcast. In this episode we discussed many things. First and foremost we talked about the author’s intent with the writing style that he used. We also talked about different motives/reasons that the author had to write a book like this. We also talked about themes that popped up in the book and what they meant to us. There was also conversation about the ending as some of us felt like it was rushed and slightly unpleasant.
Pages Referenced Pg. 209 This gives us a glimpse of that luck that Chris mentions in the podcasts. The father and the son were on the path to starvation but yet again they find resources that they desperately need in a post apocalyptic world.
Pg. 213 This page shows the father having falsely placed hope and that relates to our question about the man’s faith in God and the boy’s faith as well. We concluded from this that they have indirect faith in God. The man for sure the boy moreless.
Pg. 255 While exploring the beach area for more resources someone steals the man and boy’s cart and they later find him and the man takes it back leaving the man for dead. That was an important point because we got to see how people react to situations like this in a post apocalyptic world.
Trump Vs. Jack

Trump Vs. Jack
What has often been found true throughout history is that an imbalance of power leads to corruption. The temptation to put personal gain over the community has been documented by countless examples. In William Golding’s Lord of The Flies, it depicts how power can affect people negatively no matter their social class. It shows the raw uncensored version of what it looks like to see children who act violently towards one another drive themselves and others crazy all because of the need for power on what was a deserted island. Despite the fact this novel is fictitious it still illustrates how dangerously power hungry people can be. Furthermore, the main intention of Lord of the Flies was to symbolize politicians who prioritize personal gain over developing a more functional society for the citizens. The need and wanting of power in this book just displays how important a factor that power was in that time period as well as our time period now. Why? The higher social status you have, the stronger you are in society, no matter where you are. There is no way that you can have a high rank position and have no power whatsoever.
A prime example of this is the president of the United States, Donald Trump. He is a powerful man because of his excessive financial wealth making him worth over a billion dollars. he is responsible for running a land mass of 50 states. When it comes to trying to provide what’s best for the people that he chose to run and serve for, some say that he hasn’t done anywhere near the best that he can do for the people. I mean sure, he has done stuff for the wealthy, but for people that are not high middle class or up, matter none whatsoever to him because he doesn’t care, he talks about “Making America Great Again” according to NBC but then he does careless things that set America further and further back in the tracks of “Making America Great Again”. Much like Jack, one of the boys stranded on the island, he is more straightforward and is always trying to assert his dominance in the book from when they were trying to hunt and he was so passionate about getting blood on his hands, you see what I’m getting at? He literally said “We’d hunt it and kill it.” If a murder hungry child doesn’t scream corrupt then I don’t know what does.
Another example of this is like when Jack isolated himself and a few other children from the group. He did this because he wanted to have the power to rule over all of the children in the way that he wanted and when they didn’t want to be ruled by him and have him in the position of power, he did not like that, he is quoted saying “He says things like Piggy. He isn’t a proper chief” so he took it upon himself to leave from the other children and start his own civilization and became his own chief and from that point on, it led to the collapse of the somewhat society that the children had created when they were able to communicate ad all have an even distribution of power but once Jack became power hungry, he caused the collapse of the island because he wanted all of the power and wasn’t satisfied much like our friend Mr. Donald Trump. Trump likes to be in power in every situation. When him and Kim Jong Un were threatening each other with nuclear bombs, what did you think that was? For fun possibly? NO! It was the fact that Trump was trying to assert his power as president of the United States. Power has a very important effect on society no matter the way you look at it, it’s unfortunate when it results in the collapse of a society but what can you do about a power hungry person? There are limited options, some of which many people aren’t most fond of.
Most importantly are the costs of power that are not reversible. In some scenarios, people in power make mistakes that will have a drastic change of things going on in a split second. When it comes to the book, there is one specific scene here piggy is killed by mistake by a rock that is pushed down a hill/cliff by Roger, one of Jack’s minions, the book quotes “Roger, with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all his weight on the lever.” This shows how Jack affects Rogers decision making because his leader is so violent. If Jack and his minions weren’t trying to terrorize Piggy by shoving a boulder off of a cliff to kill him then things in the book would have been a lot different. If Piggy would have never died then would Ralph have almost been killed? If Jack was it so power hungry, would piggy still have been killed by someone under Jack's’ influence? In this case this reminds me of the innocent people killed across seas because of the wars that Trump is causing with other people. According to News Weekly, the US Army under Trump's’ orders . This shows how the person in power doesn’t consider how what they do can affect the people around them, they are just worried about seizing the moment that is open and that is where they fail because when sacrificing one piece, Trump is making himself so much more vulnerable. With the strong evidence I have provided you with, I have proved my thesis.
In conclusion, being i power is a hard position to maintain and yes, it is the root of all evil and with power comes the lack to look into all of the possible outcomes of the decisions you make in power, this causing problems i which size varies, someone could die or a civilization could lose everything that one civil about it thus pointing the blame back to the person who caused this slippery slope because of one sloppy decision that they made. It’s not fair but life is not fair so what can you do? Overall though, hopefully this essay was very eye opening to the way that power affect people and hopefully you enjoyed this essay!

Comb your hair. It looks a mess. Fix your pants, Don’t get tattoos, Don’t wear hoods, don’t cover your face. Dress nice. You need to work harder as a black man.
In today’s society, being a person of color is hard son. People hate our tight kinks in our heads but at the same time they want it. To society we’re just some damned niggas that the government is going to do all they can do to keep us from prevailing. It is hard to be a person of color today because everyone is against it. They hate our royal blood. They hate that we are the original people. That our descendants were Kings and Queens. But none of that matters because of societies view on our people. Stereotypes get our people killed every day no matter if it is by a policeman, a crackhead or even our fellow colored people. We are already put into a trench and the US doesn’t make it any easier. The average white person can just show up somewhere and be guaranteed a spot on the job but if someone like us shows up not wearing their sunday's best, there will definitely be a problem. Societies goal is is to make everything harder and harder for colored people, and you’re not making it any better on yourself.
I don’t care how cool it makes you look. You can have all the chains, all of the money, all of the girls, all of the clout but at the end of the day, NONE OF THAT SHIT MATTERS! Education is key boy. Being on the street won’t lead to anything good and once you get to deep, the harder it becomes. You think that shit is cool but you’ll surely end up in cuffs or in a casket. Take it from me son, I lost my best friend to the streets, Uncle Dre. I tried to tell him son I tried and tried but he was too much like us. To smart for his own good. He started smoking that stuff when he was younger, next thing I know he's selling it. When I got that call son it cut me to the white meat. I felt like it was my fault. He was in the fast lane. Now look where he's at now. My best friend in the ground at 32. I can't have that happen again. Not to you, my only son. I love you son. I can't lose you. Do you understand how devastated I would be if I got that call saying my son has been arrested or worse.
I don’t care how thurl being “posted on the block” is considered when you could be posted up in the class getting and education instead of wasting your life being in the streets selling drugs and making less than you would working a minimum wage job.
What is it going to take for you to understand how serious this is? You could’ve already been killed. Luckily you have god on your side. It’s tragic how many people we lose from this street life. And just think son, not only are the people living your lifestyle affected but so are the innocent people caught in the middle of this. Say you are getting shot at and you hit some lady caught in the crossfire? You know what give me that gun off your hip, you’re not slick!
What do you mean no?
Son! Give me the gun!
*Grabs at sons waist, managing to grab the gun*
GIVE IT TO ME SON!
*At this point they are both tugging at the gun*

Music
“Yeah can’t talk with a gun in your mouth, huh?” I sang sternly.
“WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?!”
“It’s just a song,” I said to my mom.
She frowned, “Sing something more positive,”
“But it’s just a song!”
“Stop chanting that music, it’s brainwashing you.”
“Okay, I guess.” I chuckled.
Whenever I listen to and share my music, I am constantly criticized for what I like or who I listen to. I can be listening to one of the greats such as Biggie or Tupac and as long as it abides by my mother's rules, she’s fine. But as soon as I say something that I like, I get criticized for being myself. It doesn’t matter what genre it is, it can be pop, hip-hop, jazz, RNB, whatever it is, as long as I’m listening to it or even saying the words, I am “drawling” or “need to calm down”. It makes me feel out of place. Like I am some kind of weirdo that is obsessed with music.. But it’s not like that though. Well at least not in my eyes. Just because I like music, people think that I am now out of the place of a “Human being”: it means that I am special in my own way. Is there anything wrong with that? NO! Yes I sing lyrics but I don’t live that lifestyle and that's where my moms problem starts because she feels like if I sing the song then I will live it. I know funny right?
I have a deep connection with music. Ever since I was younger, like an infant, my dad would play his old dj tracks in his headphones and put them on my head. I even have a picture of that. I’ve loved music ever since. This may sound far fetched but my Dad is literally like the only one who understands me when I talk about my musical side of me. I have friends that I can talk with about different stuff related to music, but when I talk to my dad about music, we can relate to much. So many different songs or albums from different time eras from the 70’s to now including tracks off of movies, tv shows or just tracks in general because we just love it that much. I love how strong of a musical connection me and my Dad have.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love my mom but the connection me and my father have on a musical level is crazy. We like the same genres and we are open to most musical content. I can talk to him for hours about music but when it comes to my mom, she’s more oldschool and likes the singers and is not really intrigued by rap like I am. We have a connection so strong sometimes it feels like rap could be a person, I have a love for rap. It's a part of me. And no, I’m not just ignorant to like rap, I like multiple genres of music but rap is my favorite genre of music.
Some of the artists that I like the most are Kur, Trippie Redd, XXXtentacion, Ski Mask the Slump God, Comethazine, The Notorious BIG, Tupac Shakur, NWA, Mos Def, Mase and Junior Mafia. I like these artists because they are popular but because they make music that speaks to me
Many people think that rap is all bad and thought there may be some negative things but, these artists are always pushing positive vibes regardless to their lyrics. They always show creativity in their music. They can talk about more than how many guns they have or how many women they fornicate with or how many racks or bands they have. I mean yes, they have all mentioned it but it’s not always about that with these specific artist. They can paint a picture with lyrics alone and that's what makes them so amazing in my eyes. Regardless of the music they make they were still good people and most of them know how to differentiate music from life. That's what makes these artist so good and why I fell in love with their music.

What is your element? Name and atomic number
My element was chlorine. The atomic number is 17.
Tell the reader about your element, history, function/use and so on.
The element chlorine is a well-often used substance mostly in solid and liquid form. Chlorine in gas form is dangerous. In liquid and solid form, it is often used to clean and used in pools because it kills disease.
How did you get the idea for the imagery you chose?
My common knowledge on the topic plus a bit of research.
What process did you go through to make this print?
It wasn’t difficult to do the drawing and the carving, the hardest part was printing.
What would you do differently if you did this print a second time?
Maybe I would find a way to make my print out better.
What part of the project did you enjoy the most? Describe the step and what you liked so much about it.
Even though it didn’t come out as well as I wanted it to, printing was fun. I enjoyed rolling the paint onto the styrofoam and pressing down on it to make the print come out

What I changed And Learned
Usually in past presentations, I have made my slides “Boring” as Ms. Hull would say. But thanks to her constructive criticism I have tried using some new things such as different colored words to make the presentation more attractive , I highlighted important topics and included pictures. I also gave some of my sentences colored borders. Plus I Used Word Art. When presenting to my fellow group mates I took the following things they said into consideration. Hector told me that I should change the background color because it made the text harder to read. Caresten said that I should use less words. I changed both things and I think that the slide does look much better.
