Film Conversion: 2012 as a Horror Film

Posted by Joshua Turner in Reel Reading · Giknis · C Band on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 8:38 am

For this project we plan to make a trailer for a movie that we had in mind, we planned to use the movie 2012 as the movie choice and we are planning to make 2012 into horror movie. The reason why we chose this movie is because we would like to see what a end of the world movie could be with a horror movie perspective around it and it will have a creative element around it as well. We thought I would be an interesting concept for this project. We are going to find scenes from the movie 2012 that look like something from a horror movie. we going to use 5 scenes from the movie and some software we are using are imovie or wevideo. What we need is scenes from movie, sound affects, change in scenery, contrast. We used the music and the cut ins and outs to our advantage. From this experience we were able to turn the movie 2012 as a horror movie

Josh Turner Capstone

Posted by Joshua Turner in Capstone · Pahomov · Wed on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 9:38 am

What I did for my capstone is I did a sculpture of a dog for animal awareness/cruelty. I first started by getting the supplies needed. After that me and my friend made the head and stuffed newspaper in it to make it sturdy, then made the ears which took a bit of time, the snout was was kind of difficult to make due to the shape of it , and the eyes were ok. It was hard, but it was not easy to do.. Next we did the body of the dog that was a little difficult. I hard to figure out what size and shape we were going to use. Then we made the legs and the tail which was easy enough. The only problem with the legs and tail was they kept breaking off easily, so we were able to find a way to stop it from breaking. The final thing we did for the capstone is that we painted the dog it was tedious to do the eyes because if you mess up, you have to redo it, next we did the glossing which was hard at all. Lastly we went to a dog walk and went to some animal shelters in the area and collected pamphlets that promotes animal awareness and prevents animal cruelty and post them around the school. So that is what I did to complete my capstone.

For my annotated bibliography I am going to show the definition of animal cruelty and animal awareness, how you can support animal awareness and how to prevent animal cruelty, some facts that you do not know about this topic.

This website shows many facts and info on animal cruelty. I found this to be reliable because it tells you facts about this topic in full detail. Like for example the most common animal in animal cruelty are dogs at a high 70.1 percent. It also shows organizations that hosts events that show animal cruelty. It also shows that people who abuse animals, also abuse their children and/or their spouses and that 71 percent of domestic violence victims reported that their abuser also abuses animals. Another thing is that Intentional cruelty to animals is strongly associated with other crimes, including violence against people.

Animal Planet. “20 Ways to Raise Awareness.” Animal Planet, 1 Oct. 2014, www.animalplanet.com/helping-pets/roar/awareness/

This website is good to use because it teaches you how to support animal awareness in many different ways. I noticed that most of the ways to support this cause is to either to host an event, rally, or a Fundraiser to help the animals to get what they need to live and survive. There are also some small things you can do support the cause becoming a mentor to show people the way to animal awareness and get them to join the cause. Another is one of the most common things to do to support awareness and it is volunteering at your local animal rescue center.

“PAWS - People Helping Animals.” Animal Cruelty » PAWS, 25 Jan. 2018, www.paws.org/kids/learn/animal-cruelty/.

This source is helpful because it shows what to do and what not what not to do in a case where you run in animal cruelty. Animal cruelty is when someone hurts an animal or does not care for an animal’s well-being, like not giving a dog or cat food and water. When you see animal abuse, do not intervene because not only the animal’s life will be in more danger, It will put at risk of getting hurt.  Even though it is sad, it’s the right thing to do is call someone for help and let the situation play out. Also it’s a known fact that people that abuse animals, were most likely abused in their past.

MSPCA. “What Is Animal Cruelty?” MSPCA-Angell, 26 Jan. 2018, www.mspca.org/cruelty-prevention/what-is-animal-cruelty/.

This website is useful because it tells you about what are different types of actions that is and turns into animal abuse/cruelty. One of the most common way to abuse an animal is: No water or food, abandon it, no shelter, and unsanitary household. Uncommon ways to abuse animals are running animal over, to give away for profit and attending a animal fight club and it does count as animal abuse if you do attend one because since your not helping a abused animal in a fight club and letting it fight. Does not matter how you put is still animal cruelty if attend these types of events.

This source tells you the philosophy of animal awareness or in scientific terms: animal consciousness and how it became a thing in today’s society. It tells you the history of animal awareness and a in depth analysis on animal consciousness. Also it shows the structure and the evolution of animal awareness of the years. To see what has changed with it and what has not changed with animal awareness. As that went on, a called animal suffering or commonly known as animal cruelty. It shows that when there is a good thing, there is always a bad side to it.

This website tells you how sensitive animal is and how animal has an impact on the world. It also tells you how some people use animals as test subjects in scientific/chemistry labs. Another to mention is how we use animals for dissection projects, medical research, and cage them for fun. This is all a form of torture to an animal. Some people who this do not even notice how the animal feels. They’re another ways to find a solution other than animal testing and such, but people do this because it is more convenient for them test on animals than other things.

For this source, it is going to be about how animals feel and how animals think. To humans we think animals only think about is food, water, shelter and sleep, but they actually think about others well-being and instinct. They know something good will happen or something bad will happen to them or others. They care about our safety as much as humans do, but to some people do not see that in animals. Some people see them as lazy animals or animals that are energetic and annoying creatures, but most of us do no think like that because we treat animals as equals.

This is going to be about animals knowing who they are and how they they are animals. When some animals look in a reflective type of material, they either do not react to it at all or they that it is another one of their kind. Sometimes don’t you think that when animal see itself they think “Wow that’s me?” Some animals know because of their speech, appearance, animal like reflexes and such other things like that. Some animals don’t even think that they are animals. They probably think that they are humans like us, but they don’t that they are animals

This source is going to be about facts about animal abuse that people did not know. One fact is that there has been an estimated 900 to 2,000 new cases every year of animal hoarding in the US, with 250,000 animals falling victim. Another fact is over 115 million animals like  mice, rats, dogs, cats, rabbits, monkeys, birds, among others, are killed in laboratory experiments worldwide for chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing every year. Final fact is more than 50% the fur in the US comes from China, where millions of dogs and cats are often bled to death and skinned alive for their fur. Chinese fur is often mislabeled, so if you wear any fur, there’s no sure way of knowing whose skin you’re in.

This source is going to be about fun facts and the dos and don’ts of animals. One fact is If an animal changes its behavior, you are too close which means either they are scared of you or they feel threatened by you. The World Animal Awareness Society has campaign specific goals as well as organizational goals. The organization has multiple locations in the United States that you can join. It tells what the situation is in that area and how you can support animal awareness in different states. People do not know about this because is it not that well known.

Violence From a Perspective

Posted by Joshua Turner in English 3 · Block/Franz/Taylor-Baranik · E Band on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 1:40 pm
Intro:
the reason I wrote this essay is because I want to show how violence can change a person's view. I also want to share my experiences with violence, and we can decrease the violence.

Violence can affect us in different ways or forms because it can change a person’s view on the world. Some people experience violence in different ways or experienced it worse than others.

The way I have experienced violence is through harassment. The reason why I only experienced violence through harassment because everyday during grade school, I was harassed. It happened so many times, that being harassed became a daily thing. I would have to beg my mother to stay home because I could not handle being harassed every single day for the next 6 years. So grade school for me was harassment hell because I had to deal with it every single day for the past 6 years and the teachers did not really help the situation, they just made the situation worse than it needed to be.

Some people think that violence is a normal thing to experience in a person’s life because we witness or take part in violence so many times, that people got used to violence. It impossible for a person to not experience violence in their everyday life. The only possible way to not witness violence, is to stay in your house for the rest of your life. What I am trying to say is a person will experience violence in their everyday lives.

There are some ways to prevent violence, but not stop violence. Here are some ways we can prevent violence. We can try to shout are yell as much because that is one of the ways that violence is started. We can try to use words instead of our fists/weapons to solve problems. The reason why I say this is because people think too quickly and use violence to solve problems. If this happens it can only end in two ways, one way is you can accidentally injure/hurt someone in the situation. The second way this could end if the authorities come and see you, they’ll think you’re the one who started the fight instead of preventing it. What I am trying to say violence exist, so there should be a way to prevent that type of stuff.

Tragic Events From a Browser

Posted by Joshua Turner in English 3 · Block/Franz/Taylor-Baranik · E Band on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 10:00 am
Introduction
This essay will show how tragic events that we see on a browser can affect people in certain ways or forms and how we react to the tragic events that happened in the past.

Essay

For my thesis, the deaths of tragic happenings from a browser makes us feel closer because it feels like we are actually there witnessing the tragic happenings with our eyes. For my essay I am going to talk about how Tragic events that happen that are in your browser will make you feel closer to that tragic crisis. Now there still tragic things happening around the world to this, but I am going to talk about certain tragic events that have happened. In the article Ghost in the Machines, it points out how we feel closer to the That have died that are our browser. In Ghost in the Machines, by  Jenna Wortham notes the significance of the mass shootings: “The mass shootings in Paris and San Bernardino felt, somehow, closer to our lives because they played out on our screens and in our browsers.” The reason I chose this quote is because it shows that even though we were not there, but since we see it from a browser it makes us feel bad for those people who were in that tragic happening.

The world going on the internet shows that we do not ignore the tragic things that happened in the past and even the present. From Ghost in the Machines by Jenna Wortham notes the significance of us not ignoring the people who died: We have seen how people used social media to ensure that Americans did not ignore the deaths of people like Freddie Gray, Walter Scott and Sandra Bland, amplifying them into a rallying cry for justice. The reason I chose this quote is because it shows that people that we do not know, but they still have an impact in our lives somehow.

Everytime we go on to our browser, there are new tragic deaths being posted on the internet and we pray that it is not one of our friends or family members were in that tragic event. Here is a quote that supports this statement: With the exception of our friends and closest kin, we typically encounter news of deaths through social media. It shows that there are new tragic events happening every single day and we hope that it is not the people we love that are in that tragic event.

Tragic events can show us that what we watch can affect you as a person. What this means is that what we watch can have affect your life in a small way or in a drastic way for some people. For some they wouldn’t even care about what happened to people in that tragedy. It could have been your friends or even one of your family members, but some people do care because they feel bad for the people who were in that tragedy. What I am saying is that the tragedies that we see on our very own browser can affect one way or another.

Advance Essay #2

Posted by Joshua Turner in English 3 · Block/Franz/Taylor-Baranik · E Band on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 3:56 pm
Intro: Hi this is Josh And my essay is about the a memory of creating a creative essay and the positives and negatives of it.

The one memory I have was in 9th grade and they told us to write a creative essay and I for the life of me could not think of anything and it was due in only in a few days so I became stressed and worried about not turning in the assignment and not getting a good grade. I thought I could write something random and wacky, but that won't get a good grade.

The quote: “You should write what you really know — as opposed to a slick, bowdlerized version of what you know.”  means is that don’t write down or type anything random because either you won’t get you anywhere, you won’t get a good grade and remark, or you can easily offend someone. It also means do not fake anything that you know or else you will get caught and there will be consequences at the end. Also you how to not make yourself a big shot by making up real cool stories to make yourself the best person to hang out with because at one point they are going to eventually find out what you wrote is not true and they are going to be upset because you lied to them about yourself and they do not want to hang out with you and you are left with no friends who support you and help you.

I know how some people have the same situation I went through, but I truly know that everyone has their own experience of this situation. Also some people have this problem if someone gives them a particular topic that they do not know anything about. Some people in these situations react in different ways and forms. It it can go from not caring at all to being really worried about the situation. I am trying to say people with their own experience react in many different ways.

In the first part told you about the the negative things in creative writing and now I am going to tell you the positive things about creative writing.

One of the positive things about creative writing is you can be creative about as it says in creative writing. You can create anything you want, but do not go overboard with the word creative. The paper or Google doc is your canvas. You can write (to an extent) anything that your heart desires. The meaning of a creative story, you can choose how long it can be, the topic, the genre, even the characters, just do not get carried away with the creativity. It has to at least make sense in a way in which people can understand what you wrote about and the the plot has to make sense in order for the entire story make sense. Creative writing is like putting together a puzzle, you after put the right pieces in the right place in order for it to make sense. You can not just put anything you want in any place in the story or else it will not make any sense and your friends will not understand what is happening in the story and they will not able to get a sense of what the plot is, so this is why you need to put the parts in the right place just like a puzzle. So do not go willy nilly when you start writing your creative story do not write anything vulgar, extravagant, offensive, negative to other people. So be careful when you write a creative story and try not hurt anybody’s feelings

The other positive things about writing a essay is expressing yourself to a full extent. Writing how you feel or how you felt in the past. Just do not write anything that is dark, disturbing, traumatizing or else they think you are a creepy or a messed up person and they will not hang it out with you. Only write the positives things in your life and pay no attention bad things in your life. You can write things like parties or events that happened in your life. Do not write anything sad or depressing things such as a past away family member or one of your family members has cancer. Do not write anything of the negative things in life and focus on the positive things in life.

The final thing I want to say is that the literacy I chose because it makes you feel like you are in the situation right then and there.

My Memories

Posted by Joshua Turner in English 3 · Block/Franz/Taylor-Baranik · E Band on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 2:01 pm

When I first saw the portrait, I said to myself: “This painting will go great with the atmosphere of my house”. When we got home we couldn’t figure out where to put the portrait. I suggested why don’t we put the portrait behind the dining table. My parents said “That not a bad idea because it fits the area around it. So we all agreed to put it in the dining area and when we stood back and looked at it, we all said “It looks perfect here.”

Quite a few months back I move into a small apartment with my parents. The area around seemed empty because where the apartment is, it is surrounded by garages. The apartment was small yet durable it had a deck so I can go outside and had a electric stove. First we got the heavy stuff in the way so it won’t be much of a hassle at the end. Next we got lighter stuff out of the way and then a week later we got the internet and cable up in the apartment.

During my life there was a lot moving and here I am going to tell you from the beginning. When I was born, I use to lived on Brighton St. near where there use to be a HESS nothing much happened at Brighton Street.

Next I moved to Frankford Ave where I lived most of my life. A lot as happened on Frankford, some good some bad. I call it a small apartment with a lot of memories, For example a squirrel came into our apartment without any notice and me and my mom were scared to go near it, so my mom called her boyfriend without telling him what the situation was. When he got there my mom just tells her boyfriend about the situation and her boyfriend got the broom with a nervous look on his face and he knock it down the stairs and it ran out the door never to be seen again. When I lived on Frankford Ave. I met two people named Alexis but people call her Lexi and a boy named Anthony but people called him Ant. after we became great friends as the when we started to hang out but as much because they kept coming and going for a while and all of the sudden we stopped seeing each other for a long time and we have not seen them since then. The reason we moved out of Frankford Ave was because a drunk man kicked our door open in the middle of the night and my mom called to police and nothing happened after the fact.

Next I lived on Disston St. Not a lot of has happened on Disston, but the only thing I remember is inviting my friends over and pool parties. I had a great time at Disston Street, but we had to move and I really liked it there.

Then a few years later, we moved to Tyson. There was really no memories at Tyson because we moved not even a year later because the neighborhood was a bit crazy.

When I moved to Marsden St. we had some memories there for example I made some new friends there, got my new pet there for Christmas, and met my uncle who I have never seen on the same day. I also graduated Austin Meehan Middle School and when to Lincoln High School and a year later I started my first year of Science Leadership Academy. When I first saw Science Leadership Academy, it looked like a office building from the outside. When I started to go to Science Leadership Academy, I was excited and nervous at the same time because it was great to be in a new school and make new friends and nervous because it was a new school, new neighborhood, and new faces. I was scared because I was afraid to make a bad first impression at my new school. When I saw the schedule I was so lost because at Science Leadership Academy they call them bands instead of periods and the letters were confusing because I did not know where any of my classes were. As I started to go there I started pick the pattern that was happening and after three months, I started to get the hang of it.

After that I moved to Vandike St. with my mom and her boyfriend and as we are living here at Vandike St., we are creating memories. So these are all of my past memories that I can think of on the top of my head.

Savage over Safety

Posted by Joshua Turner in English 2 - Pahomov - E on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 2:04 pm

People can always depend on others to help out, right? Not all the time. Some people just jump to conclusions without thinking,  just turn on you, or they don’t believe you. Sometimes jumping to conclusions or hurting people for no reason isn’t a way to solve problems, but people some people don’t think about the situation at all. When they notice things  are not right, they don’t stop and think for a minute. Some people think that the only way to get rid of a problem is to take out the problem at its source or to ignore someone if they need help.

In Chapter 9 of Lord of the flies Simon finds a dead person with a parachute and the others believed it was the beast, so he went back to tell the others that what they saw wasn’t the beast. In the stage Ralph and the others were in they thought Simon was the beast so they violently attacked him, Simon was trying to tell them what he found and who he is, but they already killed Simon before he had a chance to say anything.

The reason why they thought Simon as the beast is that Ralph and the others were in savage mode and when they saw a shadowy figure in the woods, they thought it was the beast, so they attacked what they so called the beast, they attacked without hesitation. They tore and bit of pieces of flesh off of Simon and when Ralph and the others thought they killed the beast, they realized that it was Simon who was dead after the fact. The reason why the boys came up with this conclusion was the fire they made, made Simon’s shadow a beastly figure and they weird noises such as like screaming and growling. After they brutally killed Simon they were upset, so they put Simon’s body on a piece of wood and let drift to sea. The quote I found from Lord of the Flies was “ Only the beast lay still a few yards from the sea. Even in the rain they could see how small the beast was” Pg. (153).

The reason why the thesis related to this situation is because Ralph and the others jumped to conclusions when they saw a shadowy figure of what they believed was the so called beast. They didn’t for a moment to make sure that everyone in the group was with them before they attacked. The way the fire made the shadow look made Simon look like the beast so they assumed it was the beast by the way it looked. So they attacked the so called beast, they did not

think for a moment where Simon was.

A scenario I found that relates to this situation was that one morning a black teenager was jaywalking across the street towards a bus station when a cop saw him jaywalking across the street, so the cop stop him and he was aggressive about it. The cop pushed, shoved and pulled him onto to plants, so the teen said he was sorry, but the cop thought the teen was retaliating back so he called some other cops to help him. When they got there, they dragged and pushed him on to the ground and started to assault him and the teen cried out and said and I quote “ Get off of me” , but they stilled continued what they were doing.

A second example from the Lord of the Flies was when Ralph and the others did not tell Piggy there was a boulder heading his way. This is how it happened. Ralph and Jack were arguing about who was a dirtier thief, then it turned into a confrontation between each others and the twins playing around as usual. When Ralph and Jack were fighting they hit the wall and made the boulder fall, so Ralph, Jack, and the others jumped out of the way the boulder, they didn’t tell Piggy to get out of the way. Because of Ralph and Jack, Piggy got hit by the boulder, fell forty feet on the red rock, when Piggy landed, his head snapped open and blood started to pour out of his head and mouth. His legs started twitching and he fell towards the ground and the waves dragged Piggy’s body into sea until his sinked in the sea. The reason why this thesis relates to the situation is because nowadays people do not help other people anymore. If someone was being raped or brutally being stabbed to death, they just stand there and take videos of the situation and failing to call the police.

A second scenario I found that relates to this situation is when a woman was being raped and brutally assaulted. Twenty people that were watching the incident were recording the entire issue and some people were even laughing at situation and none of them had the a good soul to call the police and report the problems that is going on right there and now. The people who reported it said that they saw people walk by the issue like it was nothing and they failed to report to the authorities.

These examples of real life situations that are in the book as well, are cruel people that are mean, thoughtless, and didn’t care about other people’s well being. People just jump to conclusions or don’t people as much as they use to do anymore. They are just heartless, cruel, thoughtless people in the world and I am not one of those people. I don’t jump to conclusions in all situations and I always help a friend or anyone the has a problem that they are dealing with in their lives. When they just jump to conclusions, they go over the top with their answers. Also, when people ignore other people’s pleads for help they are just hurting the victim more by not helping them. I say “Let’s talk and help it out, not fight it out or ignore it”.

The Party Setup

Posted by Joshua Turner in English 2 - Pahomov - E on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 7:24 am

The Party Setup

Alex on the phone:

Hey Guys I need some ideas on decorations and pranks for the Halloween party. What do you think?

Alex got his phone and set up multi caller for his friends Cyrus, Hunter, Xavier, Liam, and Zoey for help.

They said they will help.

Alex went to get a notepad to right down pranks they suggested.

Cyrus suggested to do the upper body carrying lower body prank.

“Sound’s like a good idea.” Alex said.

Hunter suggested the scaring in disguise prank.

Hunter thinks that’s the best prank in his opinion.

“I will keep that in mind.” Alex said.

Xavier suggested a prank that he thinks will knock them of their socks off. The prank was the Crying witch prank.

“That sounds like the best prank so far” Alex said.

Liam suggested a prank that will help Alex would be the fake spider/cockroach prank. To Liam that is the most hilarious prank in the book.

“That does sound like good prank to do” Alex said.

In Zoey’s opinion, the prank that she thinks will guarantee a scare would be the the fake gruesome injury prank or the simple pop out prank.

“It is not the most creative idea, but it can still work.” Alex said. I think we should do all of the pranks. Alex suggested. Everybody agreed. Okay then, next Halloween decorations.

Cyrus suggested the gruesome, scary, fake dead body hanging off tree because it is his favorite decoration.

“Sounds like a good idea.” Alex said.

Hunter thinks it would be a good idea to use the dead animal animation decoration. Hunter says that it is the best decoration out there.

"So far, that was the best idea.” Alex said.

Xavier thinks the best decoration would be the pop up skeleton butler. He mentioned it is also known as the most startling decoration around.

“There is a possibility we could do that prank.” Alex said.

Liam and Zoey decided to either to do the the hand popping out of the ground prank or the fake body parts out of nowhere prank.

“That would be a great idea to do.” Alex said. “I have a suggestion of my own. I think we should gather all of those decorations and put them into a haunted house.” Everybody agreed on my suggestion. “Thank you guys for these suggestions I really appreciate you helping on short term notice.” Alex said. They all said it wasn’t no problem.

About my ILP now and then

Posted by Joshua Turner in Ilp - 10Th Grade - Miles - Wed on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 2:34 pm
My Ilp is in Rm 301 every Wednesday at 1:30. At my Ilp I am learning how to take apart & put together  a Chromebook. We are also how to re-image a Chromebook. I am really excited to find out what we are doing next. I made a couple of new friends named Scott & Nick. They are really nice and cool. That is it for now.  I will tell more about my Ilp next time.
