Rabbi Awsan _ Capstone

Posted by Rabbi Awsan in Capstone - Block - Wed on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 11:34 am
Working out and bodybuilding has been a huge part of my life ever since I started my high school. It helps me to stay fit, reduce stress, and to appreciate my own physique. I have been working out since freshman year, and it has helped me physically, mentally, and academically throughout high school. Physically, it increase my fitness and stamina in every physical activity including weight lifting. Mentally, it warms me up to face reality. Academically, I have become more motivated to tackle down any school projects and assignments.

For my senior year capstone, my focus is on bodybuilding in a motivational aspect. I am trying to observe ways that people do to motivate themselves to go to the gym and potentially  workout for two hours to three hours a day after a long tiring day. With this idea, I started thinking about my project. I came up with four main questions that I wanted to ask the people that I will be interviewing.

1. How often and how long do you workout each week?
2. What keeps you motivated to focus on your physique?
3. What are some tips and routines that you use to keep yourself motivated through this fitness journey?
4. What is your main goal that you are trying to achieve through the workout?

I chose a few students from SLA to INTERVIEWED. Those who are going through the same experience that I am going through in our daily lives trying to manage education and physical activities. My observation is to collect each individual responses in ways they get their motivation, and goals or routines they set for themselves to achieve in the outcome.

White wet rice with fried fish!!!!

Posted by Rabbi Awsan in Science and Society - Best - Y on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 8:15 am

first you cook the rice for 30min:

- when the pot of white rice is ready

-let it sit for few hours so the rice get cold and than

-put cold water once the rice is cold

Fried your fish:

  • get any kind of fish
  • session it with salt and paper
  • and fried them on a pot with oil until it get really crispy
And its all ready to eat!!!!.
My family always try to keep our food simple and whatever is on the table we will eat it,my family is not really picky with our food. As I as growing up in Bangladesh I saw my family eating it at list once a week and this dish is really simple and quick to make. It will take no more than 1 hour to cook it and you don't have to be a cook for it any one can cook this food and this food is healthy because you are cooking the rice with water witch have nothing extra adding to it and the few things you add when frying the fish witch is salt, paper and oil witch give the fish a good crispy tractors.

I chose this dish because it is really close to me and also my culture because I’m from Bangladesh and as everybody know Bangladesh is not a wealthy country and it got it freedom in 1971 from Pakistan and during the war that only thing that people could affort to eat was white wet rice with fried fish. And I think This is the most healthy food I can think of and its really helpful over the summer season because it get really hot and the wet rice will keep you cold inside.

It's Kind of a Funny Story book review

Posted by Rabbi Awsan in English 3 - Rami - E on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 11:17 am

Nearly 1 in 6 high school students has seriously considered suicide, and 1 in 12 has attempted it. The book I was reading for my Q1 English BM and find it really interesting is call “Its Kind of a funny story by Ned Vizzini” It's also about teens. I loved this book. It is about teens and it discusses suicide, sex and more, but it is a great book with an important message. Sometimes you have to get all the way to the bottom of the barrel before you can get back to the top. When you read this book you can experience all the stragglers teens go through in their high school/college years. All the pressure that sometime they start to feel that suicide is the easy way out off all this.

Its not always just study that pressure teen to suicide but most of the time is bullying that effect the most. In recent years, a series of bullying-related suicides in the US and across the globe have drawn attention to the connection between bullying and suicide. Though too many adults still see bullying as "just part of being a kid," it is a serious problem that leads to many negative effects for victims, including suicide.

Many people may not realize that there is also bullying include in teens committing suicide. Teen suicide is a very real problem in the United States and all over the world. With many pressures and a variety emotional, social and family issues to confront, many teenagers find themselves having suicidal thoughts. Part of averting a teen suicide is being involved in your teen’s life and watching for teen suicide warning signs.

It is also important to note that many of the teen suicide warning signs are also indications of depression. And it is important that around this time of your life you need to be around the people who love and care about you, also enjoy every moment of your life because our life is too small to be depressed and do something stupid like suicide. Thats what this book is about when the main character in the book go to a hospital for his depression problem he meet a lot of new people and became their friends thats when he realize how fun and beautiful life is. Its not always full of stress and pain everything will be OK at the end but its not than its not the end

Humanities Final Portfolio 2013_Rabbi Awsan

Posted by Rabbi Awsan in English 2 - Block on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 11:35 am

I went through a lot of struggles and some of the work were challenging for me throughout the year. Although that has happened, I still managed to work very hard in class and I tried my best I could possibly do to complete my work on time. I can confidently say I have learned a lot and experienced through many obstacles this year, but 10th grade was a great year for me.

I have learned and experienced a lot in both English and History classes. We have learned a lot inside and outside of school, but the two major things I think I really enjoyed most from each of these two classes are the researched on prisoners from history class and the Hidden City Project from english class. The prisoners researched has taught me that the government spend more money on prisons than they put money for  education expenses. One of the things I learned and see as an inspiration is from the Art in the Open dance because it has taught me more about acting,  what goes through an actor mind, and how it is in their way of seeing and using the space in different perspective than a normal person.  When someone examine something closely new information and perspectives emerge.

The things I notice while I was researching about  prisoners is that the government spent more than $33000 for one prisoners and only $11000 for one student. That is a huge differences and that is one of the main reasons why there are more prisoners than students in this country. The government spent the same amount of money in a prisoner's in 4 years and 12 years for students. The U.S. taxpayers spend 32 billion every year on Prisons. The cost for each prisoner is $22,000. The United States spent 45 percent more on prisons than universities and there is no way to proceed into the future. It also says that the government focused more on prison uniforms than than they do on caps and gowns for graduation ceremonies. We need more education and less war because if you are educated there is less chance for you to commit a crime. I think that’s how we can decrease the crime rate of this nation.

For the Hidden City Project, the first day my english class went is to the Armory place, which is a few blocks away from our school. It is a huge empty place where the army used to have their camp. The first thing Leah Stein dance group told us to do once we get there was to play and test out objects and to discover ourselves in a place where we are comfortable. They also told us to play in our space and put us in a group of 4-5 and told us to make a play within 30 minutes and most of the group did really well on the first day. From that week we had the same group to work with and we transition to a short five-minutes play in one and a half week. My group and I went through a lot of difficulties because we had a lot of ideas and we were confused on which  story we should use for our final product. Then we came up with an idea and decided to put all of our story together and the people from the Leah Stein group  helped us a lot with our five-minutes play. I don't think our act would have been this much better without their help. From now every time I am going pass by the playground where I performed,  I am going to visualized that place more than just a playground itself.

These are some of the work I have done in my 10th grade year.

Language Struggles

Posted by Rabbi Awsan in English 2 - Block on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 9:29 am
For Q2 Bm we had to write about a language, different language in the world or our own experience, struggle and etc.. It wasn't so hard for me because I straggled a lot with language when I first moved to U.S.A.

My family and I have always struggled with english since we moved to the U.S.A. It was hurt for my little sister and I the most because we had to go to school and couldn't make friends or speak to anyone. We use to sit in ESAL class for hours with a teacher who was trying to teach us english and made us read kids books. Then after 6 months I started speaking basic english but more curse words. After all the struggles and confusion with words like “Than,Then and There, their”  a year later I started to speak fluent english and got out of ESAL class but I still had a very strong accent and my classmates used to make fun of me for that. It wasn’t a fun experience for me. I struggled  a lot with language and still am a little. Now the most hardest part for me is when i have to translate for my parents whenever they come to my school or go see my doctor.

The things people said about my language and my accent have always made me nervous to talk in front of people, because I always think people are going to make fun of me or make bad comments about my accent.

Last summer I Went back to my country with my family and thats why I there’s a difference between the way I speak english and how they speak english. When I use to speak english they couldn't understand me because the way I pronounce the words were different than them. When we say the word we sound out the letter but they don't do that they just read the letter. It would be difficult  for me to talk to people in my country if I only knew english but I remember the language.

English isn't my first or second language for me. Other than english I learned 4 other languages just by watching tv. It wasn't so hard for me to learn them but I guess english was really hard for me to learn. I am also taking spanish classes in my high school hopefully before I graduate from my high school I will be an expert in spanish.

Language always have been a huge part of my life and it helped me to get a lot of fun memories. Fun memories because I cough so many people in the train/buses talking in their language and saying terrible things about me or my friends so it was a really fun experience for me.

Keystone XL Pipeline

Posted by Rabbi Awsan in World History - Block on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 11:20 am
For our world history class we had to wright 3 monologues if we work alone and 5 monologues if we work with a partner. Our History teacher Mr.Block Told us to wright about the Keystone Pipeline and what other people from different state and cities would say about this Pipeline. Hope you enjoy it!.

Monologue#1

No...Noooo.. My dad just got notice this morning from the government to leave our house because they putting some pipeline here in my house. Is thats the pipeline my history teacher was talking about?. Thats made me go back to the day when we was learning about the “Keystone Pipeline”. In my history class when my teacher told us about the Keystone Pipeline and all my classmates and I start wondering what this pipeline is about. We were about to ask the teacher, when he told us to watch the video describing the details. This is the coolest thing I ever saw- wow, pipeline start from Canada and through United States. Then when we start going deep into the video we realize that keystone pipeline is a ridiculous idea because it not only bad for our land its also going to affect our environment, And now I have no house. Thats is why i am here with you guys to stop this pipeline to save my house and our environment. All want you guys to do is be with me and help me to stop the pipeline.

Monologue#2

I am a owner of corner store in texas and when i was watching the news this morning and i heard that some kind of Pipeline for oil are starting from canada through the united state and going to ends at texas. This pipeline might take place in my town, neighborhood or even in my store. Doesn’t matter where this pipeline going to take place it will destroy everything and it will make difficulties for our next generation to leave. This is ridiculous “Why” we need this pipeline?. Why can't we live the way we usually live. why?

Monologue#3

Buzzz....Buzzzz......Buzzz Hello who is this? Hi I am Steve Calling from the National Oil Corporation. I was wondering what do i think about Keystone what? pipeline? What about it?. I am just going to take one minute for you to talk about the Keystone pipeline starting from canada and all the way through United stade. The keystone XL pipeline connecting us to Canada’s booming oil shale production the pipeline will bring so much bad oil from canada that will affect our environment. So What do you think about the pipeline Ms?. wow-cool I am sorry i have to go to work so can you please call letter when my husband is here.

Descriptive Essay: Should I change?

Posted by Rabbi Awsan in English 2 - Block on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 8:39 am

Its 1:30 in the morning, I already got 5 missed calls from my mom and she still calling me. I am really scared to pick it up because I told her I will be home by 10. I know you guys will be like “what he talking about”. Ok so let me start from the beginning.

8:10 my phone is buzzing, one of my friend called about the concerned that happening tonight from 7 until 10 and he wanted me to go with him because he don't wanna go alone and I immediately said yes to him. I did think it was that important to ask my parents but I still did just to let them know not for their answer. And soon as I told them that I'm going out they said “No” to me not because they don't want me to go because they don't like the people I'm going with.

One night when my dad was coming back from work he saw some of my friends smoking and doing other things that made my parents change their opinions and what they use to think about my friends before. I am not going to lie, I knew that my friends smoke and other things, but I didn't think they was doing anything bad. I never thought whatever they do anything was bad bully people, fight, disrespect their parents and I thought it was it was fun bullying people I didn't like it when they use to bully me but I like it when they do it to others. I was never into fight and I don't even like fighting but for my friends I did fight because they their my best friend’s.

disrespecting parents I was always against it but whenever I came home after hanging out with my friends and hear them disrespecting their parents and ect.. I start talking it lightly. I changed myself a lot by being with them or you can say i changed myself just to be with them. Ok, back to the night its almost 10:30 and my friends and I just got in to my friend car and i was still thinking about the time I give it to my parents.

I was excited the same time because I am going home. On my way home but for a second I did stop thinking what my parents will say then I go home. The car was going 100 miles per hours and soon as role down the window I feel some cold air on my face the cold air made me forget all I had on my mind and the things I was thinking. After few second the car start to slow down and one point it stop working. I got really scared I start looking around but I didn't see anything except for few houses it was probably 12 o'clock by then. Our car broke down middle of nowhere I didn’t have any signal on my phone but I was still could hear the buzz on my phone.

School Bullying

Posted by Rabbi Awsan in English 1 - Dunn on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 3:23 pm
The new information I have found is Philadelphia is not the only city that having school bullying. There’s a lot of bullying going on all over the country, little states and cities. According to youthviolence.edschool.virginia 402 students from grades 6,7, and 8 in a suburban middle school in central Virginia, Nearly half of all middle school student report being bullied every month and 15% of those students reported being bullied once a week.
The information I found by doing more research on bullying is a 13-year-old boy name “Nadin Khoury” got attacked in Upper Darby by six high school kids. After 30 minutes of physical abuse in public, a woman jumped out of her car and saved Nadin Khoury and it happened in January 11, 2012. In fox29 interview Nadin said his family got tarred to leave the school and the country from those same high school students.

My personal opinion after doing research on bullying is that bullying is not the great thing to do. Bullying can cause kids take their life and a lot of kids have tried to take their life because they was being bullied in school and outside the school. So please stop this bullying; nobody is going to get anything out of it. Feedback for the people who want to stop the bullying: If you see anyone getting bullied please try to stop it or immediately call the police.

For my blog post #3; I am going to bring in a lot more Bullying issues and make a poster and talk about what we should do to stop bullying.

Philadelphia School Bullying

Posted by Rabbi Awsan in English 1 - Dunn on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 11:23 am

In the last Quarter of school, our English teacher Ms.Dunn gave us a project called “You and the World”. In this project the issue I am going to bring up is school bullying. I think bullying is the big issue going on all over U.S. I am interested in this issue because I have been bullied in middle school, because I spoke different languages when other kids in my class did not. I moved here from Bangladesh when I was twelve years old. When I started school, I didn’t know much English and was shy to talk. Kids would push me, try to fight me and make fun of me because I was different.

I think bullying is the perfect reason why kids in middle school don’t like to be in school. Watch this video. It shows how unsafe some of our schools are in Philadelphia. After years of harassment and bullying, this video was taken by a 12 year old girl who wanted her mother to see what going on in her classroom everyday.

According to the New York Times, in Philadelphia seven teenagers were arrested for a bullying incident in which a 13-year-old student was kicked and beaten before being hung by his coat from a spiked fence post. This is what is happening in our School District schools and I don’t think those kids are safe in school. We as community members have to do something about this bullying and stop it as soon as possible.
