Negative Space Cut-Out

Negative space is the space around a picture or photo that surrounds it. In this cut out I found negative space by seeing the different areas between my house and the background. For example the fence and the clouds are examples of negative space because it surrounds the house. This is important because it helps an artist to see negative space, it can give you a new perspective and help you understand a piece of art better. Seeing negative space can enhance drawing because it creates a new aspect of the drawing that you haven't seen before. For example in my cutout you see two sides to one picture but it’s created using negative space.

Negative space is the air or the space that surrounds the main focus object (or any other subject) in a picture or a photo.

If you focus on one color on one side in this cutout (perhaps the green on the right side as an example), then you are focusing on either positive or negative space. On the right side, the tree is green, and the tree is the main focus of this cutout (it's the positive space). The blue just serves as a background. The left side is mainly just invert to the right, making the green serve as negative space.

Making the negative space visible allows the artist and other viewers see what the artist wants them to see.

It enhances drawings for that reason as well. It helps people see the message more.

What is negative space? It is the space around an object or person in a piece of art. The main/prominent part of the photo or drawing is referred to as positive space. Focusing on negative space creates a different way for viewers to see the art. In my art I found the negative space by first cutting on every line in the template into the red construction paper. I then took out all of the pieces that were in the gray and put them to the side. It was helpful to see the negative space in my work because it really defined the other parts of the tree and made them pop. Seeing in negative space allows an artists to make their art balanced between negative and positive space. For me seeing in negative space makes art more appealing and it becomes easier to focus on specific parts of a piece of art.

Negative space is the space around and between the main things in the drawing fro example by house, the fence, and the bush.

B. Explain how you found negative space in your cut out?

How I found the engitive space is by looking at what is the main focus of the image which is the house, the fence, and the brush so the gray space behind it is the negative spacing.

C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?

How this help an artist to see in negative spacing is the spacing around both the background and the main subject of the image.

D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not?

Negative space does enhance the drawing cause you now can not just only see the main focus but also the background too.

A. What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it)

Negative space is when in an illustration or a drawing, there are the spaces that isn't the main focus. Usually it can be blurred in the background of many images. It means exactly what it says, "negative space". It is space that is not the main focus of the image. It usually is a pretty big part of the image.

B. Explain how you found negative space in your cut out?

The negative space in my image would most likely be the sky background because the tree is the central image of the cut out. It is also the areas that are darker than the actual tree.

C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?

It helps an artist to see negative space so they could possibly focus on the main focus of the image. Often, people ignore the negative space but drawing from negative space can also be very pretty as art work.

D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not?

Yes, I feel like often times, we do not look at the background of images so focusing on negative space, it gives a chance for people to also see things in a different manner. It also can make drawings more abstract to make people use their imagery to think what the drawing would look like.

Negative Space Reflection

Negative space is the space around and between an image. It forms a silhouette around a shape. It focuses on contrast.

I found the negative space in my image based on the details. On the paper, there were two different colors, each thing was either black or grey. I chose all of the things that were grey to be my negative space. So I cut those out and separated them from the black images.

Seeing things in negative space helps artists by showing what contrasts what and how to focus on both detailed things and broad things.

Negative space does enhance drawings. It helps differentiate one thing from another in the sense that you don't just have to draw lines that show where details are different. You can just cut that out.

Negative/Positive Space

1. Negative space is an art term, in which describes the space between and around the subject of an image. For example, a black object on top of a white background. The white area that is around the black object is considered the negative space.

2. In my cut-out, negative is found on both sides of the image. On the left side, you can see the blue tree which is surrounded by orange, and the orange is the negative space. On the right side, it is the opposite, with a blue tree being surrounded by a blue negative space.

3. Using negative space can help an artist tremendously, because they can see the object they want to surround in negative space clearly. It usually contrasts against the dark/light background which can aid an artist in designing their art piece.

4. Seeing images in negative space does help enhance the image. It emphasizes the subject in question of the artwork, and it provides balance and composition to the artwork as a whole. It also sets boundaries between negative and positive space.

Cut-Out

Negative Space in art is the surrounded area around the object. For example, in this picture you can find the negative space on the right hand side of picture, where the dark blue surrounds the light blue. The negative space in an art piece helps the artist in a way that they know about the object. I will be easier to identify the objects shape and even mass. It also helps to bring balance to the picture. Seeing in negative space enhances drawings in the way that the darker color makes the object to be the center of attraction.
