Q4 Art Portfolio

Posted by Sydne Hopkins-Baker in Art Advanced - Hull - a2 on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 12:51 am

Quarter 4 we were allowed to pick and make our own assignments with a rule that they should each take you a hour or longer. I wanted to go all out on my art projects I wanted to include all my art talents into each project. This included painting, collaging and teamwork. To make my projects fun I wanted to have a theme so each of my projects included newspaper in the theme. I was either a news paper background, a somewhat comic from a newspaper or it was a story from a newspaper and each piece of work can tell a different story like newspapers do,

My first project was basic shapes and collaging I used the red colors as fire to represent the many forest fires that we're killing our own environment with. This piece involved water coloring and the splatter technique to get the feeling of fire. The glitter might be a little hard to see but it's supposed to show the glow fires have. The second project shows the beauty in our environment, I wanted painting to stick out so I painted them black and added accents of color to give the eye something to look at. It's the good and bad of nature.

I had so much fun with my first ceiling tile I wanted to do more. I made one big one and two little ones. The first one had a twist on an old 80's comic, I wanted to use bolder colors than the original comic it took a little longer to get the details in the face and the tear drop. I was proud of the way mines came out especially the girls hair. The little ceiling tiles are two of the few places I want to travel to because everyone does a Philly skyline I wanted to leave the borders of America and adventure out. Tokyo and Johannesburg are beautiful places so they were fun to draw and paint.

Overall I had a lot of fun with my art assignments and look forward to creating a lot more. I couldn't have done it without the help of my lovely art partners in crime who helped cut out the many many pieces of paper for each background. Gave me the motivation to paint and even gave great feedback. I hope you enjoy my four lovely master pieces.

                  Thank You

Q4 Art Portfolio

Posted by Klarissa Hudson in Art Advanced - Hull - a2 on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 11:14 pm

Hello, I'm Klarissa Hudson and this is my work from my senior art class. In this class we usually have students who are "passing", "middles", and "college preps." Each section has different artworks to be completed based on their level. I'm in the "passing" group, so I have the smaller and easier assignments to complete. This quarter I had to come up with and create my own assignments so I chose to:

1. Draw a stained glass window

2. Draw an everyday item that I use with only shading to show details

3. Make three things with origami

4. Make a stuffed bear

For my first assignment, I worked to create a stained glass window of my own. I chose a picture of a flower with different colors and shapes around it. For the second assignment, I drew a pair of headphones with shading. I use headphones everyday for hours on end so I drew them with shading to show details. For the third assignment I made three things with origami. So I created a flower, two bunnies, and a fox. And for the fourth assignment I made a stuffed bear with cloth, needle, thread, buttons, cotton, and a bear stencil. Please enjoy and comment if you like; thank you for taking time to look at my work.

Q4 Art Portfolio

Hello, my name is Mingxue Zheng. The following slide show will contain the artworks that I have done in the fourth quarter of my senior art class.

This quarter, all students will be creating their own projects.

First Project: Create a Mosaic Rose Drawing
Second Project: Create Mask Paintings
Third Project: Crayon Art
Fourth Project: Flower Vase Painting

I found the assignment this quarter to be challenging because it was my first time doing crayon art and mosaic rose drawing.

Among all of the projects, I am proud of the mosaic rose because it was the first time that the rose actually looked like a rose. The color combination is made up of warm colors. It gives off a summer vibe.

The most difficult project is the mask painting. I chose to create two Chinese Opera mask paintings. The Chinese Opera masks are so detailed, that it makes it harder for me to draw and space out the elements in the masks.

Overall, I love this class. I will continue to draw and paint in college because art is one of my prized hobbies.

Lauren Thomas Q4 Art

The reason I create art is to express myself. Even though the art may not be something amazing or profound, it is something I am proud of and happy that I created. When I look at my art, I see myself being reflected. I enjoyed this quarter in art because I got to create things I wanted to create. I love painting and doodling so I tried to incorporate as much of that as possible. Doing the zentangle doodling is one of my favorite activities because hours can pass and you wouldn't be able to tell since you were in the zone. It helps me calm down and construct art that is messy yet structured. There is a theme around everything and having it be Disney related, but I love Disney and it reflects me and my personality. Going forward, I hope I continue to paint and doodle and create many pieces that make me proud of what I do.

Q4 Art Projects: Bailey Collins

Posted by Bailey Collins in Art Advanced - Hull - a2 on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 9:32 am

During this quarter I decided to teach myself something new. I taught myself how to make my photos paste onto tiles. I still have plans to arrange them together, but I didn't have the materials needed to do that in time. I also taught myself how to do embroidery and I drew up the Morton Salt Girl because I think the design is really beautiful and interesting. I love how it came out too. I haven't entirely finished it, I am going to completely fill in the design at some point, and I am definitely going to continue with learning embroidery and cross stitch patterns. I was able to show it to my grandma and great aunt, they were so excited because embroidery is a family tradition on my father's side. All of my aunts and uncles, and my grandma have the embroidery designs framed and hung in their homes because my great grandma was a master embroiderer. My third project was about learning how to make terrariums. I made the scenes really cute and I love how they turned out. I am excited to make more and put in some cool plants. My fourth project was really fun because I learned that if I am really focused, I draw really well. I love how these tiles turned out. I think that they are really pretty and I love how I designed them, they are very zen like designs, with a twist of course.
Thank you for a wonderful four years in art class! I have consistently had you every year and I am very grateful to have known you so well.

Jade Schweitzer Q3

Posted by Jade Schweitzer in Art Advanced - Hull - a2 on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 8:39 pm

This quarter, art class aside was very difficult for me for many different personal reasons, and that defiantly had an effect on my productivity in art. I completed my assignments, although my work seemed to come out differently. More smooth, utilizing more curved lines, and softening my usually harsh lines. Most of my inspiration and my idea this quarter came from things I am used to seeing everyday, like ashtrays, snails, and snakes. Using these memories helped to calm me down, and made concentrating on making them look as realistic as I could in the moment much easier. I took steps this quarter to try and improve on areas I had little to no comfort in, such as drawing people in general, let alone creating a self portrait, as well as working on physical textures, like the scales on my snake.
Overall this quarter I expanded my comfort zone, learned new techniques for creating my art, and became more willing to share and get my art critiqued by peers.

I believe it is an artist duty to bring joy to the world by bringing about a new perspective. In my art I strive to inspire imagination in the eyes of the viewers through creative and inspirational design.

Melanie Harrington Q3 Art Portfolio

Posted by Melanie Harrington in Art Advanced - Hull - a2 on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 9:36 pm

As an artist I try really hard to use the art to my advantage. Art for me is very therapeutic and I especially enjoy painting. This quarter, the only thing I had the chance to work on was a self portrait painted with india ink due to personal absences from school. Each time I visited the art room I noticed a difference in my mood. Art makes me feel alive and it takes away my stress.Throughout my art I try to show how I am feeling, whether that' scribbling on a piece of paper, or writing song lyrics down, or even using calming brush strokes to complete a painting. I enjoy being part of this two day a week art class and look forward to pieces that we will be working on in this upcoming and final quarter of the year.
