*My Love Note*

Dear Franklin Institute,

I simply adore you! I enjoy the number of events for people of all ages to come to and engage in new learning. When I was younger I use to visit you with my grandmother all the time, my trips were simply amazing. My favorite thing inside the Institute is the Heart, It amazes me how the human body works. Growing up I always felt as if the Franklin was the coolest place on earth (and my feelings remain the same). Visiting you always makes me feel like I can achieve my goals no matter what they are, I get a sense of hope and inspiration. I enjoy walking up the steps each time I go, imagining what exhibit I will see, and what new knowledge I will walk away with. I guess what I'm trying to say it, I truly do love you and all the excitement you bring me. Thank You for always being there when I needed you.

P.S. Please always stay as cool as you are don't let anyone change you, ever.

With loads of love,

Aja

Desert Revelations

Posted by William Johnson in Storytelling - Rami on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 9:38 am

This is the product of studying science fiction. I have been working on this novel/short story since about last year, but this year I really began to develop it. After the 3rd quarter benchmark, I decided that I would revisit this story and revise is as much as possible. This also included creating some rough sketches for scenery and characters; to further develop the novel. The story is still a work in progress, constantly evolving. Hope you enjoy it!

Rodrigo: A Kid with a Dream

Posted by Winston Wright in Storytelling - Rami on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 11:37 am

Rodrigo is a kid that lives in Salvador, Bahia , Brazil in the late 1930s. All Rodrigo does is dream of playing football (soccer) for his country. On the night before Rodrigo’s 18th birthday his mom tells him that he has to enlist in the military. This is really important because of the current worldly affairs revolving around World War II. Rodrigo wants no part in the military and just wants to play football. He falls asleep the night before his 18th birthday and has a dream about trying out for the local football club Bahia. He then wakes up the next day and finds himself enlisting in the Brazilian military.

Here is a link to read my short story. I found the inspiration for this story from Stanley Kubrick's films.

My Incredibly Late Digital Story

Audio of poem is above.

Text is below.

Drawing is located below text of poem.

For the digital story project, I wanted to take the opportunity to write something that I’ve been meaning to for a long time. In grade school we had an assignment to write a poem. What I ended up writing was dark and strange, much unlike what my other classmates had written. Though most of the details of the piece have been lost in the past few years, I can still remember being extremely proud of what I had written. So for this project, I’m going to try and recreate the poem from the few details I do remember.

The One Beneath the Window

I hear you outside,

You outside my window,

Silly thing.

I hear you shuffle your feet,

Back and forth under my pane.

I hear your words,

Trying to slip between the cracks

And pry open the window.

Your are words calm

And steady.

You have much patience,

But you’ve been here before,

Every morn leaving,

Weary and hollow.

Your words grow louder

With my every denial.

Your pleading flattery falters a little more

With every nay from my mouth.

The veil of kindness

Is dissolved from your mind

By the acidic rage now overcoming it.

Once words so sweet

With only a hint of desire,

Used to trickle through

The faults of my pane.

Now they bombard the window

Giving up

On lulling the lock

Into submission

And gunning straight for me.

You thought it best to change my mind once,

But your patience has worn away,

Your manners out of commission.

An animal hunger envelopes

Any humanity left in your bones.

The window still stands

Between you and I.

It’s once minor splits,

Now canyons, turning the world

Behind it into a reflection

In a muddled lake.

One wisp of a breeze

And I will no longer have a choice.

Canyons will erupt and

You will devour me.

I only have one choice left,

Blow a kiss

And welcome you in.
