A Taste Of Me

Posted by Octavain Davis in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 1:08 pm

my slides ( the last one) (2)

I would firstly like to discuss the reasons why the images are placed the way they are. I actually wanted to create a little bit of a depth effect (this is also why I choose the black background). I also took some advice from the Zen website provided to me which included one slide one point, contrast rules, and making it visible. I wanted to make something that makes the viewers take a double look and wonder why I created it and why are there so many odd photos, what’s the meaning?. While I would prefer viewers to use their own creative skills to find out the meaning of the slide, as with most slides the theme is pretty obvious from the first glance.

While positioning the images I also considered my theme and decided it would be best to position them in my opinion in the most descriptive and emotional way possible. The reason for the creature in the background that looks like a demon is actually there to symbolize me! Me being extremely antisocial I usually just sit in the back of the class quiet and observing my classmates. Finding out what they’re really about so I can know what i’m getting myself into if I do decide to talk to them. The reason why I put the bee so close is to symbolize my more playful and silly side for if I know you well this is what will be displayed by me most of the time. Now, you’re probably wondering about the door with the curious child looking in it up in the top left corner. That was meant to be far away, as I mentioned above i'm extremely antisocial and even my friends that think they know me actually have no idea what i'm truly about. They usually take my kindness for granted and one day they may see me change and stay that way for as long as we're friends.

Now, you’re also probably wondering why I choose such odd images to create my slide. As I said in the second paragraph, the bee is there to symbolize my silly personality but also because i’m a huge fan of the subject Entomology. The door with the excessively nosy child as also mentioned in paragraph two is there to represent my true personality which is locked up and will remain in its cell until I find the right people to expose it to. And finally, the reason for the demon are numerous. One being the fact that people never tend to notice me and by my actions/hobbies being different from others really just make things worse. So instead of finding someway to change myself I sit back and see who I believe would make a good associate.

Media fluency

Posted by Shyann Davis in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 1:07 pm

Hello, my name is Shyann Davis. I made my Me magazine based on only a few things but I hope you can see it. I have based it on line, value, color, and rhythm. With line I lined all of my pictures together to it could look pleasing to the eyes and not to everywhere and confusing. With value I kept it simply black and white to be, well simple. But I didn’t just want the same black and white color so I put some lighter blacks and more brighter or dirty whites. The color I wanted was black and white but I also wanted pop to it so I added a bit of color by adding the question mark. And lastly I wanted rhythm, but also wanted to mess with the rhythm. I wanted the rhythm to be the same but have one difference in my pattern.

What I would change is maybe the way I put my project all together. The pictures along the side could be done a lot better. But overall I really like it and I hope you all enjoyed it as well.

Tech-Media Fluency (2)

First thing that one would notice is the color of the slide. I learned that the colors were supposed to be eye appealing. I learned that contrast and space have something to do with colors. As a result, I thought of the most common favorite color which is blue. There’s other colors like white and dark blue, to add a little variety without the slide being too colorful. I also made the font huge so that everyone in the room could be able to read my slide. The font I chose was Roboto and made the color white to be able to read easily. I am passionate about English Language Arts and I like to write. That is the reason why I inserted a poem that I made.

The Internet Control (2)
The reason I wrote about The Internet Control is because of how big of an thing it is in the real world. The control the internet has over the world is huge. Almost all of America has internet in their house and business. Most of the current generation is consumed by daily internet. I want to show people the dangers and perks of having the internet and just understanding the risks.

Slide Presentation

Posted by Kennedy Fields in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 8:30 am

Kennedy (1)

When first assigned the media fluency slide presentation I had some pretty good understanding of what could be a job well done. Unfortunately, as I opened a fresh slide to express my thoughts in a presentation I couldn't start.  I knew the way I had things visioned I would be breaking guidelines for the best ways to create a presentation. For example: In the Presentation Zen learning site I’d be avoiding the second rule, “one slide, one point.” Since my, Me Magazine scanned over some key detail things about my life, I thought to just incorporate everything that shapes Kennedy. Clearly that point created a setback, so I waited. Then I thought why not choose my passion I wrote about, it’s the center of my world and it’s dancing.

To create this slide I thought of a simple title, Kennedy’s World. Only because dancing is literally my world it’s the most time consumed part of my life, next to school of course. So, then I made title big, to match how big it’s apart of my life. Making words in presentations big is something both, Presentation Zen and Zach Holman discuss. Zach Holman also talks about how letters can even act as “visually interesting shape,” which explains the stretched, different looking font in the title. There is a contrast between the background and subject. One is on top of the other, which may describe importance. Final photo composition techniques added includes, symmetry. I centered everything to make it more appealing to the eye.

Google slide for tech (2)

I made the slide like that because I was told it had to be about us so I took an image of what I love to do, playing video games. My reason why I chose the image does not matter and is not what this script is mostly about. The script is mostly about why I chose to design the image as it is. It has a bunch of color because as stated from one of the research pages we were allowed to go to “Color is the very first thing people will notice.” after reading that I took a bunch of text boxes and colored the background. I wrote what the picture means to me in big letters because that was also one of the statements from the research pages to not be a wimp and use big letters. I made below the big letters another line that is very small because I am quiet almost all the time so I wanted it to match me as well but the ! marks are way big so to me it seems I’m screaming my frustration to the world. I didn’t chose an image to “bleed” because if I did it would hide the name of the games and I didn’t want that. We are allowed to only change the slide after we post the scripts and slides on SLATE but I don’t know what to change if given the chance.

Media Fluency

When you think about Netflix what do you think about? Mean girls or Jane the Virgin? When I think about Netflix I think about Pretty little liars and The 100. I think about all the great movies and Television shows they have. I think about The Vampire Diaries and Dexter. These are my favorite shows that interest me. I’ve recently discovered The 100, and it’s amazing! I can understand their struggles and their sacrifices. It’s amazing what people can do with their imagination.

I chose to make the background picture a road because usually an open road symbolizes that you can go anywhere and do anything. I feel that way about Netflix. Netflix has a variety of different shows and movies. It can take you anywhere from American Horror Story to How I Met Your Mother. If you’re in love with Vampires like I am, watch The vampire Diaries or The Originals. I personally like The Vampire Diaries more than The Originals, but it’s whatever you like.

“Unlimited Netflix shows for the unlimited Netflix watcher.” These words are very powerful. Obviously Netflix is the unlimited shows, and I’m the Unlimited Netflix watcher. I chose to write this in the order that it’s in because it just seems so cool like that. It seems like I’m a (as my dad says) pokemon master. Replace the pokemon part with Netflix, and I’m a Netflix master. This basically means that I’m a master in watching Netflix shows/movies. As I said in my Me Magazine, I’ll always be there for Netflix, and Netflix will always be there for me.

Google Slide

As you can see, this slide is about photography. Well how do you know this? Rhetorical question for you, I’ll answer it myself. I set up this slide to be glance media. What is glance media you ask? Glance media is a type of media that you can look at or pass by quickly and instantly know what it’s about. A billboard, for example, should be glance media; companies want you to be able to know exactly what they’re talking about or selling as you pass it by.

Well now that you know why it’s simple, you may be thinking, “Okay I know it has to be simple. But why does it have to be so big? [Gestures to slide, specifically the word “Photography”] It’s not an actual billboard.” Good question! It only needs one point because the slide is just an aid in speaking. If it only needs one point, why not make sure that point gets across thoroughly? Big font and little points are remembered.

“Why do you have that empty, blurry space on the edge, Sara?” [Gestures] some would ask. The reason for that is known as the Rule of Thirds. Imagine looking through the viewfinder on a camera. Have you ever noticed that there are faint lines going through the image? [Draws lines] The viewfinder breaks up what you see into thirds going horizontally and vertically. The Rule of Thirds makes things aesthetically pleasing. Think about if you had a picture of a flower or a person [Drawing] in the center of the photo. It’d be incredibly boring! I have this set up like this specifically to appease the Rule of Thirds.

As you can probably tell by now, there’s a lot of color in this slide. Did you know that color is the first things we see when we look at a picture? You probably already did, at least subconsciously. In this slide I used some subtle contrast. Contrast is when the subject colors are drastically different from the background colors. In this slide, the bright pinks, oranges, yellows, and whites in the subject [Gestures to flower and colors] are way different than that of the dark green hues in the background. [Gestures to the background colors]

  • explain your L.A.N. Local Area Network - all the devices on your internet connection. my connection is good, it works i have a router and a fios router

  • reflect on what you learned about networks, did you have an OMG moment that you learned something new and interesting? if now write about what you learned. i learned that even though people who think people cant see what there looking up, people can see it
  • what would you tell other people that they need to know about having an  ISP/Home network? i would tell them to don't do anything stupid on the internet because people can see it.

Grahm Home Network

My network that we use throughout my house is exfinity, it's connected to all the digital devices. So the laptops, phones, tv, and our wifi.

I learned that it's like a grid and all information is separated throughout the process.

That every part is needed for it to work and it is very complicated.
