Catcalling Needs To Stop

Posted by Grahm Bacon in English 1 · Giknis · E Band on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 2:47 pm

Catcalling is a form of street harassment that women have been disgusted with since the 20th century. Catcalling is when someone calls out at you randomly and comment on your looks and appearance. It is usually something sexual such as “HEY MA, NICE ASS!”. Women find this vile and annoying while a few women like the attention given to them. When someone catcalls you, they are saying that they want something sexual from them. They are usually looking for someone was has issues or low self esteem they thinks it gives them a better chance of getting laid. Men think they enjoy the compliments and should not make a big deal about it. They don’t realize how scary it is for women, they are so scared that some women are afraid to go out at night or anywhere alone. This happens all over the world and the way they dress isn't a big factor. Women who are fully dressed uo have the same chance of being catcalled as a women wearing less clothing.

Catcalling just doesn’t happen to women but also teens and kids even younger, it happens to kids as young as 11 years old. This is very disgusting because men call out sexual thing sto little kids which is very vile. The things that makes this vile besides that it’s catcalling is that men are inferring that they want something from then now or when they get legal (18 and older). Catcalling has been around since 200 B.C but it had different means. It was first called the “Wolf Whistle” which was a way to show male lust. Then came the term “Catcaller” in the 1700s, it was used to show anger and disapproval at the actors during a play. They would show this by whistling and sneer. The way it is used now came along in the 20th century. It is used in a sexual manner to try to get a woman's attention.

For my agent of change I made a instagram account and posted pictures and stories of catcalling. I did this because I wanted to spread awareness and I thought a good way to do this was with social media. I was affected greatly while doing this because I learned that I have friends who have been catcalled and my mom has also been catcalled. It disgusts me that this has happened to people who are close to me. That is one of the reasons I chose to do my project on catcalling. I also did it because I wanted to get a better understanding of it and I feel like I need to spread awareness about it and educate people. While doing this I learned a lot more things about catcalling, how it affects people, and why people feel like it is okay to do it. I’m disgusted in how men feel like it is okay and that they think that all women like it. For my agent of change I made a instagram account and posted pictures and stories of catcalling. I did this because I wanted to spread awareness and I thought a good way to do this was with social media.

I really liked doing this project and I feel like I became a better writer because of it and I learned a lot of new things. Doing this project I learned why men do this and why think it it is okay. I also learned that some women actually like and some women are afraid to walk alone for the fear of a random man coming up to them. I learned that I really care about this topic because before this project I never thought about catcalling and it never worried me; now it does a lot. I feel like I could've tried to do an interview with someone who catcalled someone and interview more than just one person.

My element that I have is Krypton, it has a atomic number of 36. It was founded in 1898 by Sir William Ramsay and Morris Travers. It is used in energy saving lights and in some flash lamps used in high-speed photography. I got this ides for the picture because you can find radioactive krypton in the gases of nuclear reactors.

The first thing that we did to create this was draw an image on a paper that was 4 by 6. We the copied it backwards on a thin piece of paper. We traced it on a piece of styrofoam thin board. We dented any part that we wanted the be negative space. We put a thin layer of paint on it and pressed it down on a piece of paper so the paint would transfer to the paper. After we let it dry we cut it out and cut out a 6 by 8 piece of construction paper. We finally glued our piece int he middle of the construction paper. If I were to do this again I would ty to make a better piece that didn't have so many white spots on it. I liked making the drawling the best because I really like to draw and I'm very creative.

How bad catcalling is

Posted by Grahm Bacon in English 1 · Giknis · E Band on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 8:38 pm

Catcalling is a form of street harassment that should not be tolerable, it is impolite and rude.

When women get catcalled they think that it’s vulgar and it is degrading. However some women like the attention. Unlike women, most men think that it is a compliment and when they don’t answer back there are a slut. When men do this they are looking for a women with low self esteem and problems so that they can get sex. My goal is to inform men what they doing to women and open there eyes to see how wrong it is.

An anti-harassment group took a survey about women and the age they were first catcalled. Sometimes they said over the age of 17, however most women said they were first catcalled between the ages 11 and 17. This is really foul not just because that it’s catcalling but that they are saying these things to teens. It scares them and makes them really nervous of what might happen. When a man catcalls it mainly means that they want something sexual from them. And when they do it to teens it makes it even more vile because they are saying they want something from the teens sexually.

Catcalling has been around for centuries and dates back all the way to 200 B.C. However it wasn’t called catcalling but the wolf whistle. This term is carries a predatory connotation which acts as a symbol for wolves which is an example of male lust. The actual word catcaller started in the 1700s which was a way for people in the theater to express the disapproval for the acts on stage. They would sneer and whistle and the actors to show this. The way the catcalling is used in a sexual manner didn’t actually start until the 20th century.

A reporter from Australia named Eleanor Gordon-Smith is interviewed by a woman named Ira. Smith talks about her experience with being catcalled and her stories when she confronted the men about it and got there thoughts. Her goal was to find out why these men did what they do. One of Smith’s story is about how she confronted her catcallers Mike and Zack  and how she tried to convince them to not catcall ever again. During their conversation Zack says that he does it because it makes women feel good while in reality it doesn’t. He also admitted to smacking a girls ass if they are in a group but only in a group, never alone. She keeps trying to convince him that women don’t actually like it and the only reason why the smile and act like they like it is because it is a defense mechanism. They do it to prevent it from doing anything physical to them such as rape. In the end she convinces them to no longer smack a woman's ass.

Throughout the years catcalling has been happening everywhere and dates back to 200 B.C. However it has been used in different form, it was first used to show male lust, then it was used to show anger at the actors at a show, and finally it is used to call out at a girl to show interest in her. It is happening to people as young as 11 years old which is very vile. Men typically do this to complement a women and to say hello or it means that they want sex from them. They get the feeling that women like it because they smile but this reaction is only a defense mechanism to keep anything violent from happening.

CatCalling

Posted by Grahm Bacon in English 1 · Giknis · E Band on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 10:11 pm

Catcalling

On the news you hear about violence, rape, crime, but you never hear about catcalling because it happens a lot and it’s not considered illegal. Catcalling is a form of street harassment and it is very disrespectful to women. This is when men or a man and even teenage boys call out to a random beautiful women. They usually whistle at them, ask for there number, and saying that they are very beautiful. They do this because most of the time they think that they can get sex. They go for women who has some type of issue in their life with there family or anything else.

When a women are teenage girl is catcalled it is very disrespectful and most of them don’t feel good about themselves. It doesn’t matter of thr guy is really hot and sexy most women don’t like it period. It makes women feel unsafe and uncomfortable. Most of the time women are catcalled the person is in a group and they are scared that they might get raped. If the women doesn’t say anything back such as “thank you” they are considered to be a slut, bitch, or a whore.  Even though most women don’t like it some actually do, they just really like the attention. Women don’t want to be just focused on their looks and if you absolutely need to comment try to get to know the person first.

Men proclaim that women should not complain about being catcalled when other men are being catcalled and not making a big deal of it. People say that men scare women, when they go somewhere in a crowded space or walk at night they are most likely to be harassed. This is why women go places unusual with her friend so they can try to prevent this. Women get catcalled everywhere, in the subway, on the street, it doesn’t matter.  You may think that part of the reason for catcalling is from what women are wearing. Sometimes this is true but sometimes it doesn’t matter what they are wearing, you could be fully covered up and it still wouldn’t matter. Men will use their imagination to see women in a more pleasing way. This happens everywhere in the world, some places more than others.

One person who was involved in Catcalling was Bill O'Reilly with Perquita Burgess. There offices were really close to each other and he walked by her most of the time without saying a thing. Sometimes he would grunt at her for no apparent reason. Every time Bill passed he r he would look up and down at her to check her out, it this gave her chills. He would call out to her when they walk by and in the elevator. At one point he called her “Hot Chocolate” and she immediately felt creeped out. Donald Trump stood by Bill and said that he did nothing wrong. She just couldn't believe that our president would defend him on this and how he uses his power to intimidate women.

Negative Space

Posted by Grahm Bacon in Art - Freshman · Hull · d1 Band on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 9:32 am
1. Negative space is the space around or between the images. It may be the most evident when the space around a subject forms an image.
2. I found the negative space looking for they part of the picture that looks farther back than the rest. I looked to see which part; either the dark or light formed the image of a tree.
3. It helps them because they are able to see all the different parts of the image that they are creating.
4. Seeing negative space does enhance drawings because it makes the main image more clear and it's easier to tell what you are actually trying to make.

While doing this project I learned that there are different designs in making a slide/picture of something. I learned about design, texture, color, form, spacing, all this stuff on a picture to make it the best it can be. At sometimes it can be confusing but it also can be easy at some times. On my first slide it wasn't creative, it was one picture as the background and one small sentence. It was plain. For my second slide I have my name in the middle with the word ultimate below it. surrounding it all are three picture of a part of Ultimate. Two of them is a picture of me while I was on a team at Minnesota called Fusion. The third picture says PADA which stands for Philadelphia Area Disk Alliance. Also me background is black to make everything pop. Before starting a project doing research is very important. It gives you lots of information you can use for it. It's also good o know a lot of information on your topic so it's very accurate and so you can get a good grade

The slide before you is a picture of Ultimate Frisbee. I chose Ultimate because it a really cool and fun sport to play. The colors of the picture all work together and are visible. The letters say Ultimate Is Awesome because it is in my opinion. I also play Ultimate so I thought it would be a good thing for my slide. I have the letters red so you can see it but it doesn’t take away the picture. I made it that size so it is visible from far away and so you can see my opinion on the sport.

Grahm Home Network

My network that we use throughout my house is exfinity, it's connected to all the digital devices. So the laptops, phones, tv, and our wifi.

I learned that it's like a grid and all information is separated throughout the process.

That every part is needed for it to work and it is very complicated.
