1.)https://ixn.es/Podcasting%20for%20Dummies.pdf

The reason why I picked this source is because the official “for dummies” has a guide to almost everything podcasts being no different. In the pdf it describes, what the book describes is the certain equipment and different supplies that you would need to have a nice podcast with a tolerable amount of quality. Especially because you’re having your audience listen and the only outlet for your content is audio. The “Podcast for dummies” is credible because the book has been published by official company that makes everything come up milhouse. The thickness of the book helps put the content and helpful tips into perspective.

In this url website this is an example of a podcast with lesser materials but fairly good quality. The sound effects and production of a lot of the skits they do are influential downright hilarious. Threw the effects of the sounds they use they talk about how making a podcast can be difficult but at the same time rewarding if you know what your doing. In podcasts of this calibre with a lot of people it becomes a little harder to edit but in my case it's a little easy because I’m only using two people, me and the guest.

In this podcast example the format of using two people and a format with a sports section and news part but with two people you always have to have something to talk about and current situations and keep things lively. Compared to my episodic podcast it might be hard to follow a single narrative for ten episodes and have them all edited. This source is credible because it’s the official site of the Jesse Cox podcasts and how they do them. Although there production value is a little higher than the previous source, they still have a finite and simple format that is very doable and good to follow.

4.)https://www.thepodcasthost.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/How-to-Podcast-The-Podcast-Host.pdf

The re-writing and re-creating of the same old program this book describes the fundamental of a successful podcast and what involved with a podcast that involves the editing process and why it's important to have a fundamental idea of what your doing so it sounds ok. Certain editing softwares work better for certain audio with the things your trying to do. For example audacity might be better for general audio editing, while the sound part of premiere might be better for adding sound effects. Running it threw both takes a while and for the project I’m doing I don’t really have time for all the editing.

The main thing that caught my eye about this article is that if you want your podcast to have a certain theme or quality to it you have to spend a lot of your time dedicated to editing and without visual queues you have to listen very closely to how your recording and make sure cut any parts that are no good. Looking at certain points at your podcast, you can make markers so while your editing you know.

I know this source is credible because it is a podcast maker themselves and their experience with the podcast community. Especially when just starting out with simple technology and simple items it can become very stressful and disorganized. While this is common when making a podcast at first it becomes common place in the podcast. In a more technical official way the high production value of the whyy makes its lengthy political podcast and famous guests painted a big light that easy to follow. The cuts and musical cues that help the podcast to go along. This source is credible is because whyy is a U.S and has over a 100+ episodes and podcast that has been well established in the years makes everything understandable. The whyy community has a lot of people who fund it and make it as successful as it is today. I don’t get funding so I just have to do the best I can with the things I have.

In this podcast series it gives a example of low production value and a lot of people on the podcast thru online connections. All the time that is spent in talking is 3-4hrs long and doesn’t have high production value. Looking back the podcast is very lengthy about culture and the current topic of the week. In other words having a lot of people doesn’t make it better when necessary compared to other podcasts with different values and topics. Reconsidering certain ideas during or after your podcast episodes may be necessary for certain topics such as news or a joke made in bad taste.

With an official company like NPR I know this is a credible source because its an organization that is has like WHYY alot influence over america. The high quality of the audience and the guests on there are very fluent and relevant. Recreating the idea of having different people from different parts of the world that have different stories to tell. Having people talk about literature in my project gives way to different personality types and different perspectives. Npr tells me that you want to have an organized citations and a healthy long podcast you have to have fairly broad questions to ask your guest.

10.)https://internationalpodcastday.com/what-is-podcast/

  • Article TitleWhat is a Podcast

In this source the world podcast day describes how different podcast come into fruition but a lot of them tend to fall flat in one place or another. I learned that to have a successful podcast I have to put a lot of time to getting to know my guest before hand and make sure where on the same pace. Having two people with weird pauses will through the whole podcast off and make the listener want to do something else. Having a story that can hook someone and make them keep listening is the main idea you want to aim for when creating a podcast.

2fer #7 Limited Edition Ideas

Posted by Amado Alfaro-Allah in English 3 · Pahomov · B Band on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 11:08 am

Limited Edition Ideas

Exclusive deals have been a business technique since the beginning of material production. The idea of having something of in limited print or items that are only available for a limited time has drawn collectors and people who want to stand out. When a limited edition or a rare item from a person’s favorite brand more people are who are in favor of that brand are more likely to buy something that is limited edition than buying something they can normally obtain. Buying limited edition items is a good marketing campaign when businesses have a lot to offer.

Not only business are liable for using this technique though in 2015 the famed Wu tang clan released a secret album called “Once Upon A Time In Shaolin”. Rapper RZA said in a interview with Forbes magazine “We’re about to sell an album like nobody else sold it before,” he called it an exclusive collectors item that RZA said in a tweet “"We’re making a single-sale collector’s item. This is like somebody having the scepter of an Egyptian king.”. The winning bid for the album went for 2 million dollars, although it came out successful, Wu tang rapper Cilvaringz was worried and called this a gamble that could totally flop if not done correctly. Around 343 people bidded to have the one and only Wu tang album.

On January 18th 2018 famed rapper Tyler the Creator announced his collaboration with the company converse to make limited edition shoes in a tweet that solely said "GOLF le FLEUR jan 18” The likes of that tweet ended up being in 97.8k and the retweets were 17,684. The shoes went for $100 but had a resale value of $200. This drew in many people who were attracted to the shoe brand and also the rapper. They were sold on Tyler the Creators website Golf and were sold out in less than 20 minutes.  The reason why his shoes sold out so quickly was because the amount of clout Tyler had and also because they were named limited edition so once they were sold out there was no way to know if they were going to sell them again. The profit Tyler and converse made from this collaboration was one of the most popular vans bought in the company's history.

Back in 2013 Stone throw records had a 10th anniversary special vinyl for one of history's best beat maker/music sampler. They had a limited edition vinyl based on the original drawing of J Dilla's idea for the album cover. When the album donuts originally came out on his birthday February 7th 2006. The 10th anniversary came out in 2013 remembering his death on February 17th which was  and celebrating his album 10th anniversary. Back in 2013 the album was almost immediately sold out by J Dilla fans who bought the vinyl. Die hard fans have said this is a “must have” for all J Dilla fans. Stone Throw Records said that “The album is ten years old now. Many new people have discovered the album and the work of our favorite producer along the way. Some still ask for the drawing cover, and we're happy to oblige.” From this quote the reader can gather than the history and legacy of J Dilla is being used as a memory for his fans but also is being used to make money off a limited edition vinyl record which in the long run makes more money.

From music, clothes, and vinyls there are many different limited edition items that usually make a spike in sales. With businesses coming up with this practice and using it to make money has been commonplace in the business world. Stores such as Supreme have limited edition items each week making there resale value very high and it attracts a very young clinetell to buy there items. In the end the limited edition items usually can greatly influence people to buy the producers things, it also can make is so that the person who does buy those items have the ability to resell the limited edition items because of the rarity.

The Wedding Shrew

The Wedding Singer is a 90’s movie that takes place in 1985, it follows the story of a locally famous wedding singer named Robbie. When he tries to get married it turns out that his fiance, Linda doesn’t feel the same way so she abandons him at the altar and leaves Robbie. As Robbie’s depression sets in his gigs become more and more mediocre until he meets a waitress named Julia and instantly falls in love. Robbie later finds out that Julia is marrying a Wall Street shark named Glenn Gulia. Throughout the movie Robbie tries his best to woo Julia with his singing and save her from marriage.

A lot of the instances in the movie correlate with the book Taming of the Shrew, the theme of of men competing for the heart of a young promising women with sidekicks who help the hero win the heart of the lady. Lucentio’s wing man in Taming of the Shrew, is Tranio, when they switch places and Tranio keeps putting in good words of Lucentio, while the wingman in the wedding singer is Sammy, Robbie’s best friend . The main idea of both the book and the movie is that the competition of whoever can marry Julia the fastest. While Glenn is marrying Julia for her to just have a wife when he admits to Robbie he cheats on her contanlly and will continue to do so , like how Petruchio is marrying Kathrine for the money partly. While Robbie truly loves Julia and keeps her in his songs. Just like how Lucentio gives Bianca secret messages in latin. Both Robbie and Glenn want to marry Julia for different reasons but they both know if they marry her then for Glenn it would mean full access of Julia’s father money but for Robbie it would be true love. The whole idea of the Wedding Singer is that Robbie loves Julia so much, he would do anything while its not said if Petruchio truly loves Katherine or he is just marrying her for the money, like how Glenn’s goal to to marry Julia then cheat on her with other women. The money affects how people behave in marriage

(Act 1, Scene 2, Line 117-129)

O Tranio, till I found it to be true,
I never thought it possible or likely.
But see, while idly I stood looking on,
I found the effect of love in idleness
And now in plainness do confess to thee
That art to me as secret and as dear
As Anna to the Queen of Carthage was,
Tranio, I burn, I pine, I perish, Tranio,
If I achieve not this young modest girl.
Counsel me, Tranio, for I know thou canst.
Assist me, Tranio, for I know thou wilt.

This scene in the beginning of “Taming of the Shrew” happens when Luciento and Tranio just arrived in town and are getting ready to attend university until Lucentio sees Bianca for the first time and instantly falls in love. In this scene Lucentio is talking to Tranio how he has instanlly fallen in love with Bianca and asks Tranio to help him out. This connects to the scene in “The Wedding Singer” when Robbie is in a bar and realizes Julia is going to marry Glenn who will constantly cheat on her with other women. While he is talking about how much his loves her with his best friend Sammy, just like how Lucineto talks to Tranio about Bianca.

In this scene Robbie is having a drink with his friend Sammy right after he learns that Julia is really going to marry Glenn, Robbie explains to Sammy how much he loves Julia and wants to be with her but Robbie still thinks that Julia likes Glenn more because he has money in the stock market and a big house. I decided to compare this with the scene where Luciento talks to Tranio and explains his grand plan to Tranio to woo Bianca. Some constraints between the two are that when Sammy gives Robbie the pep talk about love he goes straight away to Julia’s house to try to tell her how he feels, while Lucentio quietly sits back and makes his plan to woo Bianca.

In the plan Lucentio once he begs Tranio to help him while they’re together, like in the movie Sammy and Robbie are talking in the bar while Robbie opens up to Sammy about his feelings about Julia.

(Act 3, Scene 1, Line 32)

Luciento: Hic ibat, as I told you before, Simois, I am Lucentio, hic est, son unto Vincentio of Pisa, Sigeia tellus, disguised thus to get your love, Hic steterat, and that “Lucentio” that comes a-wooing, Priami is my man Tranio, regia, bearing my port, celsa senis, that we might beguile the old pantaloon.

In this scene of “Taming of the Shrew” Lucentio and Hortensio are both giving their “lessons” to Bianca and during their lesson Lucentio while teaching Bianca latin he sneaks in some messages explain who he is and how he is trying to woo her. I compared this to the scene in “The Wedding Singer” when Robbie is playing guitar for Julia in an empty venue singing about love. The reason why I decided to compare these to together because while Lucentio is wooing Bianca directly with fake latin translation, Robbie is wooing Julia indirectly by singing his song about love, being together forever and being happy together married and partly how his ex fiance abandoned him.

Up until this point of the movie Robbie and Julia have spent a lot of time together, Robbie has been helping Julia plan her wedding with Glenn, when they’re trying to find a person to do the music at the wedding Julia convinces Robbie to show off one of his songs he wrote. When Robbie performs it in front of Julia she visibility is interested and is feeling somewhat woo’d to this point, she starts to fall for Robbie at this point. I decided to compare this part of the movie to the part of the book “The Taming Of The Shrew” to the scene where Luciento gives Bianca a fake message in Latin about him. While Bianca tells Lucentio he needs to try harder she is a little interested in him at this point. This scene is comparable because Robbie because although a bit indirect both male characters successfully build there chances with the female leads. While Robbie is focusing on singing his song Julia isn’t worried about money right now she’s thinking about him. Just like how Bianca didn’t know that Luciento was loaded with money but she did start to fall for him even though she almost knew nothing about him.

(Act 5, Scene 2, line 145-180)

Katherine: Fie, fie! Unknit that threat'ning unkind brow
And dart not scornful glances from those eyes
To wound thy lord, thy king, thy governor.
It blots thy beauty as frosts do bite the meads,
Confounds thy fame as whirlwinds shake fair buds,
And in no sense is meet or amiable.
A woman moved is like a fountain troubled,
Muddy, ill-seeming, thick, bereft of beauty,
And while it is so, none so dry or thirsty
Will deign to sip or touch one drop of it.
Thy husband is thy lord, thy life, thy keeper,
Thy head, thy sovereign, one that cares for thee,
And for thy maintenance commits his body
To painful labor both by sea and land,
To watch the night in storms, the day in cold,
Whilst thou liest warm at home, secure and safe,
And craves no other tribute at thy hands
But love, fair looks and true obedience—
Too little payment for so great a debt.
Such duty as the subject owes the prince,
Even such a woman oweth to her husband.
And when she is froward, peevish, sullen, sour,
And not obedient to his honest will,
What is she but a foul contending rebel
And graceless traitor to her loving lord?
I am ashamed that women are so simple
To offer war where they should kneel for peace;
Or seek for rule, supremacy and sway
When they are bound to serve, love, and obey.
Why are our bodies soft and weak and smooth,
Unapt to toil and trouble in the world,
But that our soft conditions and our hearts
Should well agree with our external parts?
Come, come, you froward and unable worms!

In one of the final scenes in Taming of the Shrew, Katherine gives a big speech on how she really loves Petruchio and she wants to stay loyal to him. She explains how she wants to be with him and heckles the other women for not having the same amount of compassion and loyalty towards their husbands. At this point it is unclear if Katherine is being loyal to Petruchio for the money or she genuinely loves him This relates to the scene in The Wedding Singer, where Robbie gives his big song explaining how much he loves Julia and how marriages should be between the people you love.

Just before this scene Billy Idol hypes Robbie up by explaining to him that “You can tell if someone really loves you, if they’re willing to be with you no matter what and it's not about money, fancy cars or anything like that”. Robbie is currently on a plane trying to woo Julia one last time before she flies to vegas and gets married to Glenn. In Robbie’s song he explains how money and a big house doesn’t matter as long as he is with her in which Julia kisses him. This compares to the scene in Taming of the Shrew where the last speech Kathrine gives on being a loyal wife and in response after her big speech Petruchio commands Kathrine to kiss him. This relates to the thesis because it could be said that Katherine is only marrying Petruchio for his money but in the wedding singer, Robbie wants to marry Julia because he has such strong feeling towards her.

Both this movie and book hold many differences and similarities when they’re compared side by side. The main issue in this movie was that Robbie assumed he could never be loved or get married because (like his rival Glenn) he didn’t have a lot of money or a big house. Giving the viewer the idea of “If you're not financially stable, no one will want to marry you” or “It’s easier to get married, if you have a lot of money. While the theme in Taming of the Shrew is the competition of who can woo Bianca the fastest and how Petruchio “tames” Kathrine. At the end of the book even if Kathrine did just marry Petruchio for his money it wouldn’t be as frowned upon as it is today. In the movie when Robbie tells Julia that “She’s just marrying him for the money” she gets upset, the reason for this is because people who usually marry rich people without really loving them are labeled “gold diggers” which refers to someone who is only interested in someone for money. This shows us that society even if its a little bit , thinks its dignified to marry someone for who they are and not there money.

There I am standing outside of my house at 4:00 am, hosing my porch and stairs down in the middle of winter. What I thought that would never amount to anything and would have no repercussions with my family . I was wrong.

It was quiet and everyone was still asleep. The birds were silent and all you could hear was the cold winter breeze run through the leaves of the trees. The snow was like a group of a bunch of small ballet dancers. This was the calm before the storm.

Oh! I should probably start from the beginning. My name is Amado. It’s an unusual name in America and not super common in Chile & Puerto-Rico. I come from a very diverse family. there are 8 of us in total and we’re all so different. It's sometimes like always having your friends over at your house especially when we play games. My mom is tough as nails and sometimes scary but she’s nice when she wants to be. My dad is hard-boiled and strong, it feels like he was pulled straight out of a boxing movie. Everyone in my family has pretty interesting hobbies and jobs that they do, well except for me. I mean I do stuff but I’m not particularly good at it. My mom and dad praise me a lot because I’m the only one in my family who still does sports consistently. I'm in cross country in the fall & I usually run on my own to stay in shape during the spring. It’s fun being with my friends and waiting for my turn to run. Although sometimes I think of being a prized boxer or a great baseball player that always won games and such.

That's what I think about at night and it's a little scary. Some people count sheep, or just listen to their heartbeat, but I think of different scenarios that could've happened in my life. I never really do any more than that except listen, watch, and think about different activities I could have done. I consume so much media it should be illegal, I often was and still am glued to the TV and watch fictional shows about heroes, justice and just cool stories over all. That was my dream job when I was little, Superhero. Saving people and getting recognition for it would be amazing I always thought to myself, deep down I knew it wouldn’t happen but secretly till this day I still hope.

It’s kind of ironic, I like talking about myself but when I comes to writing about myself I find it extremely hard. Anyway back to the story, it was a day like no other, it was winter break and me and my brother where playing as always, I was 9 and my brother was 10. We must’ve been super bored because we went to go pick on my older brother who was about 14 at the time. He was still in bed like most teens at that age. I remember shaking him and shaking him to make him wake up until he barked at me “Leave me alone!”. I guess I was offended so I slapped him hard in the eyeball, a pursuit was enable. I ran as hard as I could to the kitchen and hid behind my mom. The rule of thumb for every household is that you don’t do anything dumb in front of your mom or dad especially if you’re on break. My 14 year old brother at the time shouted “That's why you could never beat me in a fair fight!”

“Could too!”

“Could not.”

“Could too!”

“If you can, then my room tomorrow at 12:00pm”

“Fine!”

I think my mom didn’t say anything because she was so over us. As my 14 year old brother walked away, I was furious. My blood was boiling, I thought of myself as Superman and he was Lex Luthor, there was no way I was in the wrong and he was the bad guy. Time passes and before I know it its bed time. I fall asleep fairly early for some reason. Before I know it I wake up sweating and I’m soaked. I look at the clock and see its 3:37 am. I try to go to sleep but the thought of my older brother fighting me was on my mind, I was scared

“What if he hurts me bad”?

“What if I have to go the hospital?”

“What if I die?!”

I couldn’t fall back asleep I was so scared that my 14 year old brother was going to end my life or put my in the hospital. Then an idea clicks in my head, If I ice the porch and wait outside he won’t be able to catch me! The plan was perfect, at least to me. I sneak downstairs, put on my winter clothes, grab the garden house, and get to work. It was beautiful outside, you should have seen it, the street lights were still on and the snow was falling perfectly in way that I could watch it for hours. Before I know it, I’m done and the porch is completely wet, I was waiting for sunrise so I decided to wet the stairs just in case too. I waited, and waited and waited, it was cold and boring. I went back inside through the back gate and watched TV.

Before I knew it my 14 year old brother sits next to me while I’m watching TV. I completely forgot about the fight we were supposed to have and just sat there watching TV. Then when I saw the time I completely remembered. I kicked him in the stomach hard and ran, I guess my brother was reminded as well by my foot. I run out the front door and carefully maneuver the icey porch and stairs combo. “Come and get me!!!” I shout and a pursuit ensues. It seemed unreal my brother ran out the house slipped he slid straight ahead and fell down the stairs. My heart immediately sank, I knew I was in trouble but not because I thought my brother was going to beat me up but I was more concerned with him being dead.

“Wait did I kill him?”

“Heroes don’t kill people?”

“Am a evil?!”

“Am I bad guy?!?!”

These questions swirled around my head as my dad helped my brother up, I didn’t even notice my dad got there, I couldn’t move. My whole world wasn’t black and white anymore and all it took to realize that was my older brother falling down some stairs. This event stuck with my forever for some reason, every time I think back to the moment it makes me cringe. It was kind of the beginning of my life of cheap tricks and treachery. I thought, since I couldn’t win in a fair fight I would essentially “cheat” if you could even call it that but that’s how I won and it felt good for some reason. I realized that cutting corners in games or anything else would make me feel amazing.

Cheating has always been something I’ve been relatively good at ironically, I know that's probably a really bad thing but what can I say. Party games are my favorite, I like to impress people with my knowledge when I actually already knew the answer to the question they were going to ask. I have a scale of times when it’s ok to cheat, it goes if I’m doing ok and might be able to win this fairly I won’t cheat, if I’m losing a little badly then I may cheat a little and then stop half way through, and If i’m losing hard and I really want to win I’ll pull at all the stops and cheat like you’ve never seen before. It’s a bad habit and I should stop, but how do you stop doing something you're so good at, maybe it's an addiction maybe I need therapy.

More Than Just A Hero

More than just a hero

At one point, every child wants to be a superhero who does all the essential super hero deeds: saving people from tragedy, defeating bad guys, and being world renowned. The idea usually finds its way to young children through comic books, television and movies. But what happens when the situations get more complicated? What happens when a evil person is doing bad things for a good cause? Would it still be right to put them in jail? In real life these “good guys” & “bad guys” situations are complex because evil or bad is a relative term, two sides of the same coin.  Since people don’t have super powers, how when heroes who are just average or don’t have any power become relatable. The qualities that make a true superhero is when they are virtuous and powerful. The reason why stories that surround heroes who aren't the strongest and so many people are better than them. That's what makes stories so interesting and fulfilling to watch.

Heroes can either be anywhere on a relatable to powerful scale and amoral to virtuous scale. With relatable being typical human things and powerful being almighty and god like. The other has virtuos with heroes being centered on justice and very uptight about how saving every person is a necessity. Then the amoral heroes who’ll do anything to accomplish their goal no matter what the cost. For example, heroes in the majority of movies like Superman or the flash are Powerful beings with virtuous outlooks. A good example is in the “Man of Steel” movie from (name the year) when Lois Lane is in danger, even though Superman is being undercover he still decides to blow his cover to save Lois Lane. Then on the other side there are heroes like the Punisher who are amoral and kind of powerful. In the series movie and comic books Frank Castle a.k.a The Punisher, decides to seek out every single villain in Hell’s Kitchen and kill them. An example of this is that when the Punisher is confronted by the Russian Mafia he kills everyone until one man is begging for his life saying “Please I have a family” which the Punisher responds to “I had a family once” right before killing him. This is a key attribute for whom the punisher is, and shows that he’s so burdened by his loneliness and believes that the only way of doing good is getting rid of bad people all together.

The division of the heroes struggle can be seen in the book by Joseph Campbell The Hero With A Thousand Faces. The idea is that there are three main parts (departure, initiation, and return) with many other specific ideas under them. In stories the hero gets called to adventure, gets a great power of some sort, then defeats the evil, and promises to only use his powers for good. That's what makes so many heroes so predictable and alike today, because they follow this same narrative over and over again. These usually look cool and feel good to watch but people can never see themselves as these heroes because of their powers and set and stone ideals.

That's what makes all the heroes not on the virtuous powerful spot so interesting. Take for example a powerful hero, but a relatable one like Gon from Hunter x Hunter he’s from a fictional  show that's about exploration and discovery during the series the viewer follows him and his team to become hunters, an elite group who hunt for items, artifacts and even sometimes people. Gon is about 11 when he sets out to see to begin his adventure. He’s powerful and has superhuman abilities, but at the end of the day he is just a child and gets sad when he doesn’t win or angry because he knows he’s not the strongest and theres not alot he can do about it . What this means is that even though they have powers that give them an advantage over the common man, they are still weak to the surroundings around them, unlike the virtuous, powerful heroes who can change the surrounding around them. Characters like Shinji from NGE or Gon from Hunter x Hunter are relatable because even though they have powers, they can’t solve every little problem by hitting someone or power of the mind. In their world there are a lot of other people who are better than them and events or parts of their lives that just happen that they are in no control over whatsoever. Just like school children who can’t just fight the president or politician in power, they have a very little amount of impact on the world around them. With one show called Kaji about a compulsive gambler, he’s not very strong and hasn’t been really lucky with bad luck seemingly surrounding this character because in the first episode he is struggling from debt, because of a paper he signed for a co-worker years ago. He does anything it takes to win in the end, he knows he has no power and is weak physical and it frustrates him. Knowing that the world looks at him as a bum and he can’t really do anything about it. He knows that every time he goes into a Casino, no matter how much he might win they still make money. That's why watching him succeed matters so much to the viewer.

In the other spot there are powerful heroes but that are amoral, what this essentially means is that they are a super god like deity but they have some sort of flaw. People may argue that heroes like Superman flaw and that's kryptonite but it's not really a flaw more as illusion that the writers use to make a seem like superman is in danger because the writers know that superman is all powerful. So when there no weakness to the hero in the scene or panel you know they’ll be ok. Now when a hero who has amoral ideals it's hard to tell weather that hero is a bad person or just following the wrong ideals. So for example if there is a hero who is killing innocent people but the reason he kills innocent people is because it's the only way to save his hometown saving a million more other people in the process does that make him evil? Many people who have taken the trolley dilemma which is the idea if a trolley is speeding down train tracks and essentially what the person has to do is choose if you want the trolley to hit five people or one person. Many people have chosen to have the trolley kill one person rather than five, If someone must sacrifice one person to save five other people that doesn’t make the person evil necessarily.

In the end the idea that makes heroes feel so relatable is not the powers and undaunting spirit but rather their room to grow. The idea of having a hero lose and get beaten up, to have him not at the top of everything in the world. (Christopher Vogler guide to a hero with a thousand faces) “The hero’s journey is meaningless without some trophy or prize” Essentially the prize for the heroes such as superman is the day is saved and he gets the girl but for the average hero the prize is the journey of growth and self acceptance.

When asked, fiction hero fans might say that it doesn’t matter what the hero stands for as long as the defeat the bad guys, but on closer inspection, the relatability of the hero to the reader or viewer directly affects how the audience feels.  When the  viewer starts zoning out or doing something else, that means that the character or hero in this case was flat and overdone. That's why when a hero is interesting on screen and the decisions made are unusually, it can be the thing that the viewer sees on tv while doing something and then stops to sit down and watch or read whatever the hero is in because the hero was written well and felt fresh.

To be alone (Lord of the flies essay)

Posted by Amado Alfaro-Allah in English 2 · Pahomov · E Band on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 12:24 pm

Are humans naturally extroverted? Do they crave to be with people even if they claim they want to be alone? When you are left alone and you're just sitting with nothing but your thoughts. That feels like human nature to want to be alone but being alone has been proven to drive people mad. It's uncanny to be left alone just with your thoughts. The show samurai jack revolves around him being all alone and stuck with his thoughts. Truly man's greatest fear is to be alone and hunted.

Comparing the scene in Lord of the Flies where Piggy dies and Ralph is kind of kicked out of the group and left all alone. In the new series of Samurai Jack (Season 5) it picks up where Jack left off trying to find a way to a portal back home except since the evil Aku rules the world in the future and wants Jack dead. So Aku sends assassins to kill Jack but Jack usually finds a way to defeat them. I’m comparing this to the scene where Ralph is hiding from the boys and says “He jerked his head off the ground and listened...He knew he had heard it before, somewhere but had no time to remember.”(196)

In the novel, during this encounter, Ralph is scrambling around running away from Jack’s evil possible because they are trying to kill him. While he’s hiding and trying not to get caught, the boys still look for him. The reason why this part is so very intense is because it shows how alone Ralph is and how scared he is, in this point in time. He’s all alone and no one can help him, everyone is against him and there is nothing he can do about it. It’s very interesting how things changed to when everyone was on at least ok terms and the next thing you know Ralph is running for his life filled with fear that he’s going to end up like Piggy and Simon. What are you supposed to do if everyone you know is trying to kill you? Just like animals, when people are cornered they’ll do anything to get out.

Many other characters from different stories and movies go through this kind of thing where everyone is trying to kill them. Mostly with strong characters like John Wick, who is being hunted by all the assassins in the area, or as I said Samurai Jack who’s being hunted and he’s seen as a criminal and no one is on his side. It’s a very interesting change of pace when you don’t have a person who can take out millions of people or is virtually untouchable, and you replace him with a small child, who has never fought a day in his life, is physically average for his age, then send a bunch of people to hunt him.

You see this in the hunger games when you have a moment where Katniss is hiding from Cato just after she blows up their stockpile with mines. In that moment where Katniss is just watching this unnamed character get yelled at and then killed for something he didn’t do, I can compare this to how Ralph felt like when he was all alone, and watching the boys run around looking for him with their sticks sharpened at both ends. In general there are a lot of parallels between the hunger games (the part with the actual fighting) and the events where Ralph is running and hiding from the boys. Even Katniss in the first part of the hunger games struggles with the idea being alone, when she first starts and is sleeping in a tree, she has to find her own way. The thought of her being alone scares her but she does it anyway because what other choice does she have if she want to survive.

“Someone cried out Ralph Jerked his cheek off the ground and looked into the dull light”(198). I think this is an excellent moment because it adds to the fact that Ralph doesn't even have time to inspect who cried out or lift his face off the ground softly he just gets up and books it, he’s in instinct mode and what I think why he’s in such a panicked mode is just apart how humans react in general to dangerous situations. For instance back when there was early man there was no reason or talking you either fought or ran away.

A real life example of people panicking because they feel alone and the world has betrayed them. A case study in 1989 talks about how they had two young adults put in a room, no windows, no people, just a bed and what happens was the 2nd patient after nine hours he started to experience hyperventilation, and starting acting violent in contrast to his cool demeanor at the start of the experiment “It’s been a day now let me out!” a quote he says when it's been in the 9th hour. They let him out early and is surprised to see that it hasn’t been the full 9 hours yet. “I’ve never been alone for that long in my life, I started to panic thinking I would never get to see society again”. This proves my point even more in the novel during the last chapter Ralph starts to get more desperate and is at a showdown on page 198 when he is debating what should he should do. The quote is “What could they do?, beat him? So what? Kill him?”. You can tell how broken a character is, if they are debating to kill them by the end of the book.

At the end of the day, no one truly wants to be alone forever no matter what they say. Sure brakes are needed from time to time with people, but if you are the last person around and there is no one to talk to or challenge you or anything what's the point of living. Also, humans seem to be able to go one-hundred percent when they are alone and being hunted. My reasoning for this is because they either have nothing to lose or you have so much to lose. Like Ralph if he were to die on the island he would lose his family and hope. In Samurai Jack, our protagonist Jack talks to himself a lot and thinks everything would be easier if he was dead, but he realizes that if not him, who else will stop Aku.

Little girls are the devil//Amado Alfaro-Allah

Posted by Amado Alfaro-Allah in English 2 · Pahomov · E Band on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 11:14 am

Back in the day, when I was a teenager before I had status, and before I had a pager… Nah, just kidding. I’m not that old! But when I was younger and had my super cool afro I usually get asks questions about it. “How long have you’ve been growing it out for?” or “How do you wash your hair?” I also answer six months for the first questions and for the second one I usually say “Well I put my hair under the water and wash it”. Every day I would get asked about my hair I kind of felt like a celebrity. The attention wasn’t always positive, though. I would get easily picked out super easily like small children called me out frequently and usually said “Mommy look at his hair” at the top of their lungs. This was always super embarrassing because It would draw a whole lot of attention to me. This was life for me usually, one of 3 things would happen first, an old person would lecture me on my hair and what it meant and it was usually really cool but when you’re in a rush you don’t wanna be mean so I kind of just sat there and took it. Second, there would be the people who think they’re out of earshot of me and either complain about my hair and how it’s “inappropriate” or say it looks like a microphone. I have been called Q-tip so many times I’ve lost count. One time I remember closely is when I was at the franklin institute doing my thing when another run of the mill runt shouts “Your hair looks like cotton candy!” her mom is laughing trying to cover her mouth and I just take it as another encounter of people that I’ll probably never see again. Then she said something really peculiar “Mommy why are you laughing, I love cotton candy!” Then things got weird. I was trying to escape this situation with a well placed “Welp!” but the little girl kept talking about how she wanted to eat my hair and the mom telling her why she couldn’t. At this point, I was really tired and not that angry. Then the little girl and the mom came to an agreement “At least can I touch it?” The mom looked at me and I nodded and sighed in defeat as I squatted down. The little girl reached her hand out and started touching my hair, then touching turned into rubbing, then rubbing turned into a sharp bite and pulling on my head. A handful of my hair was in her mouth and in the confusion I was stunned. The mother quickly pulled her daughter away “I’m so sorry!” she was rambling and whining until I stopped her and laughed really hard “Don’t worry about it, I’m super flattered.” The little girl didn’t seem phased about what just happened, in fact, it looked like she was confused on why I didn’t taste like she thought I would. She then started to cry, really loud which made everyone uncomfortable. When the mom asked her what was wrong the little girl kept repeating the same answer “He lied!, His hair is a liar!” At this point, I was holding in my laughter so much that I actually started to cry. The ignorance of a child is really funny to me what can I say, but what could I say or even yet what could I do to make this little girl stop crying. It’s not like I could pull cotton candy out of my pocket (as cool as that would be) so I started thinking. This was one of the reasons I cut my hair it was giving me a little too much attention then I would have liked and also it was the middle of summer and my head gets extremely hot. Don’t get me wrong it’s kind of my trademark style but I wanted to try something new. Then it hit me there was a cart outside of the museum that sells cotton candy. So I tell the mom and the little girl and she stop crying and her eyes light up. When I was outside of the Franklin institute I saw the girl and her mom buying her cotton candy. I guess when people point me out I should feel somewhat flattered because I get to experience situations like this.

Rational

Macbeth Rational

The reason why we chose to do a playbill is because we thought it would give us a chance to show our creative freedom and are adaptation of Macbeth. The reason we choose to make it in a pamphlet way is because it can show a lot of things in a flip book style. The people we choose to to act in our play are very different from a typical cast of people because we thought that these peoples personalities would fit better in the extreme characters in Macbeth. The actors were chosen from there acting history. For example when we picked Michael Cain as King Duncan we thought of his role in batman and how he sort of acted as a mentor or parent for him. The purpose for this playbill is to get the audience excited for the play and make them feel like Macbeth is a really big deal to anybody who has read it. The reason for our ads is to get the reader of the playbill into art and to make them recognized the potential of any kind of art that we have.

IMG_2142.JPG

This is a picture of us working on the Macbeth project and brainstorming ideas for our actors and other ideas for our playbill. It took us a while to find an appropriate list of actors that were at least semi-decent.

IMG_2221.JPG

This is me writing the cast of characters and finishing there descriptions of why we put them in the play. It took a while for us to make reasons for our actors and for us to explain why they would be in our play. Also why they would be these characters it was, very difficult for us to get in the mindset.

This a photo of me trying to draw something good for the playbill but I couldn’t figure out so I spent awhile trying to draw something good.

This a photo of what me and my brother were working on to actually put into the final product it took us a while to figure out what would be the best fit as an ad.

Here is a photo of me working on the rational it is difficult to work on it because I had to fish for photos I took on the school days and figure out our whole process and how to do it in the right format.

Believe it or not I took all the photos I used in the pamphlet while walking with my family and when I saw these locations and I thought they were totally appropriate for Macbeth.

Macbeth summary

The premise of the play is that our main character Macbeth is told that he is gonna be king. So during the play we see his struggles as king as the change we see him change the action is like no other and it is very exciting. Throughout the story there are a lot of different problems Macbeth runs into for example; he is very conflicted for most of the play when he is told a prophecy by three witches and now he is unsure whether to kill the king to be king or not do anything and not knowing whether he should stand by not knowing if the prophecy was true or not. This play will have you on the edge of your seat, wishing for more.

A playbill by the Three Kings brings you...

Costumes of Macbeth description

Since all of this takes place during the elizabethan era all of the costumes are fairly simple, but also full of variety. For example during that time period all of armor was very common on warriors and divine dresses would be worn by woman.

  • Macbeth will be wearing armor that looks very re-enforced and very protective. At the part when he becomes king he will be wearing a crown most of the time, also he will have blue robes that will compliment his large of gold jewelry.

  • Banquo will have a large amount of fur on most of the time with a stone that has his family crest which is very warrior like.

  • Lady Macbeth will have a single dark green dress and hair bun covers because that was a very popular style in the elizabethan era. When she becomes queen she will have a more frilly and divine colored dress but the colors would be very monotone.

  • The weird sisters will have ragged robes and that are black to really emphasizes their mysterious intentions and they will have gray hair because they are old.

  • Malcolm will have a plain color robe most of the time when he is not doing much but he will usually have his yellow armor on.

  • Macduff will have a rusty armor set most of the time and a lot of facial hair on his face and scruffy hair on his head.

  • Lennox will usually have some sort of paper he is constantly carrying and a very formal shakespearean clothes that are red.

  • Fleance will have a single colored shirt and baggy cloth pants that are held together by a rope. His face will usually be dirty and his hair will be short.

  • Porter will be wearing a bag over himself and he will have a dirty persona all together.

  • The murderers will all have black clothes all together and face masks with different animals for example; First murder will have a dog, the second will have a crows mask and the third murder will have a cat mask.

Macbeth Characters/Cast

  • Macbeth: He will be played by Chuck Norris because he has a reputation of being menacing and very scary in the few movies he has been in. Also because he could fit well in the age of the elizabethan era.

  • King Duncan: He will be played by Michael Cain because he is old and brittle, but still has that feeling of a wise old man. Also because it would be very interesting to have someone so calm and collected to be in the same position as King Duncan

  • Malcolm: Malcolm would be played by Nicolas Cage because he has the tendency to look young but still brave and cunning. In the play we picked him because we felt like he would make a pretty good Malcom because of his facial expressions

  • Donalbain: Donalbain will be played by Tom hanks because he still looks old but not to old to be the son of somebody. He also looks like he has the face and the body shape to play Donalbain

  • Banquo: Banquo would be played by Keanu Reeves because he is outgoing and still gives off the vibe of being brave and heroic from the Matrix series. Also because I feel like he has the record of playing brave and powerful people

  • Lennox: Lennox would be played by Harrison Ford because I feel like he isn’t really a fighter character but one that watches everything unfold from the sidelines.

  • Angus: Angus will be played by Philip Seymour Hoffman because he gives off that vibe of being a man to old for battle and watches from the sidelines. Also because he looks very cunning and doesn’t really have an opinion of war.

  • Fleance: Fleance would be played by Peter Ostrum (when he was still young) because he gives off the joyfulness of being a kid but when times gets tough it looks like he can get very serious

  • Porter: Porter would be played by Adam Sandler because he gives off a silly vibe and is very funny to see him play roles where he is the comedic parts

  • First murderer: Brain Wect will be playing the first murderer because he gives off a very menacing vibe and a scary glare that is perfect for a murderer.

  • Second murderer: Christian Bale would play the second murderer because when he gets mad it is very scary and fits the role as murderer pretty well.

  • Lady Macbeth: Anne Hathaway would play Lady Macbeth because she looks very light hearted and nice on the outside, but she can also be very menacing and mean.

  • First Witch:Susan Sarandon would play the first witch because I feel like she can be very mysterious, but also confusing to talk to and very scary.

  • Second Witch: Sandra Bullock because I feel like she can still give off scary and mysterious tension if she wanted to.

  • Third witch: Pam Ferris because she is very scary looking and her voice and really powerful. Also because she would make a good witch because of her role as Trunchbull in matilda.

  • Macduff: Macduff would be played by Joe Pesci because I feel like when he is in a position of power he does his best. Also him speaking in Shakespearean language would be entertaining to watch.

Macbeth Locations

Witches hut entrance

I picked and took this photo for the witches hut because the stone looks really nice with all the nature surrounding. It fits the motif of nature in Macbeth perfectly.

Macbeth’s castle of Dunsinane hill. The reason why I took and picked this photo is because the for and eeriness goes great with the prophecy that when the trees come to dunsinane hill Macbeth will be slain.

IMG_0178.JPG

Forest where Banquo gets slain took this photo and picked it because I feel like the eeriness of the forest goes great with the vibe of Macbeth.

Here it is the finished project it took a while but with everybody's help we made it possible it was mostly just typing and taking pictures. But it was super fun to let our creative ideas flow into this small pamphlet that contains all our hopes and dreams. It was really fun to work with the guys it was very interesting of having Ethan and Sean as partners because they're 2 very different people kind of like opposites.

The show we watched in class was about internet safety

1.The show was about about how to be safe when using the internet and peoples stories when they used the internet.
2.The most memorable thing was how the army would recruit kids into the army because they played a lot of video games
3.This was important to watch in class so we know what might happen if we decide to make poor decisions like those kids and what the consequences might be.
4.Make sure there making smart choices on what they are searching and also make sure they are not posting anything that they might regret later.
5.It is important to talk about internet safety with your family so they all have bright futures and can do what they love when they get older.
6.Do not give your kids a social media account until there older to understand how to post good.

Tech slide
I learned from my critic what font a should change and how to make it pop more.
The changes I made where that I changed the font to consoles and made it going up the street lights. Also I made sure that all the colors and the sizes of the letters didn't blend in with each other and everything could be read.

Media Fluency Alfaro-Allah

The reason I made this slide the way it looks right now is because the people in my background came off to me as very determined and cool. Also you can see that I stayed with a simple look but also a very late night relaxing sleepy background. The reason why is because every time I think of jazz I think of winter and old school Noir detective. I was influenced making this the way it is because I think of jazz as very simple to look at but a very complex culture and idea. And because my first encounter with jazz in my dad’s car playing smooth jazz while we drove home that winter night. I cropped the image so that it focuses on the musicians a little more than the background. The design of it all is something that I find very relaxing and fun to look at. Such as all the elements like snow, trees and over course the musicians. That’s what makes it so nice to look at.

Who am I online Alfaro Allah

1.) In class we watched a video about bullying and being a bystander. Basically in the video it is about if you see someone getting bullied then you type this eye emoji that lets them know that they are not alone.
2.) This video makes me thinl of how many people get bullied and how many people look over what there going throw. But it made me realize that it always helps to help.
3.) Online you get my instagram but if you look in images you get photo's of my sister and only one photo of my mother. Also all my old projects from middle school are there too.
4.)I think people perceive me as a chilled kicked backed and someone who just chill
5.)The goal of internet trolls is to make you mad and they try to get a response out of you or freak out.
6.) Positively you can stay connected to all your friends and family negatively is that randow people will call you out and try to make you mad.
