Globalization Q4 Benchmark

Posted by Mckelly Timothy in Globalization - Laufenberg on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 12:05 pm
Here is a link to my benchmark

Reflection:
  • What did you find most challenging about this project?
  • I found it most challenging to decide on pictures to take and getting to the locations. Some things that I wanted to take photos of I didn't have access to getting there. I also found it difficult to directly relate my photo to that theme, some times I would end up focusing on a different theme with that photo also.
  • How did you go about collecting the images or selecting the images?
  • To collect images, I made a list of broad ideas then just wandered downtown until I found something that was interesting. Then I thought of places or things to take pictures of to finish. So I could find the object then easily capture it. It was also hard to get some pictures because some places like The Parkway was under construction. I couldnt get all the way to the airport so I drove until I found a sign on the expressway that informed drivers that the airport exit was coming up.
  • Which image is your favorite? Why? Elaborate.
  • My favorite image was my photo for culture. I didn't know the meaning behind the hotel or mural on the hotel. I knew that for culture I wanted a mural painting that looked in some way cultural. When I did my research I found out that the hotel is made to be a home away from home for people from Europe and there are many branches of this hotel in over 50 countries in the world.
  • How prevalent is the evidence of globalization in Philadelphia? Do you think it is more or less so (evident) than in other large cities in the US? Why Why not?
  • I think globalization is prevalent in Philadelphia. I think that it is probably equally evident in other large cities. All of my examples for globalization, other cities have those things also, like restaurants, airports, money, banks, hospitals/health insurance, apple stores, gas stations and a place where government officials meet.

My puppy is so overprotective of my nephew. Last night I finally put my nephew to sleep and he has a cold so it was a little hard for him to breathe he snored a little. Every time he snored my puppy barked which woke him up. I would put him back to sleep then my puppy did it again. We went the whole night playing this game.

Sometimes when I am on the blogger, I read some of my classmates stories. I read Tajh's and saw that him and Dyamond are going on prom. I am not sure why I never suggested this when I knew the prom situation was becoming frustrating to both of them. Now that I know they are both happy about prom, I really can't wait. It's going to be so much fun!

South Africa & Haiti Collapsability

Posted by Mckelly Timothy in Globalization - Laufenberg on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 9:47 am
Here is the link to googledoc on South Africa & Haiti Collapsability.

For my quarter 3 benchmark I chose Haiti and South Africa. After I selected my countries, I decided to do some more basic research on the countries. Then I created a word document where I listed the 5 categories: environmental damage, climate change, trade partners, hostile neighbors and society's response. Under each I listed facts about the topics. Once I had my facts, I began elaborating on findings about the category. It was pretty easy to rate my 5 points. Most of the categories were either really well of or really bad the only one that seemed to be in between were climate change for both I picked 5 for Haiti and South Africa.

I ran into some trouble when I was doing my ratings. I mixed up the difference between 10 and 0 for Hostile Neighbors. I was more focused on the writing aspect of my project than choosing the correct number for my ratings For hostile neighbors 10 = no hostile neighbors and 0 = surrounded on all sides by hostile neighbors. Both countries have few hostile neighbors, Haiti has none because everyone is chipping in to help after the earthquake and South Africa hasn't been in a significant amount of trouble with other countries since the 1980's during the Apartheid.  So Haiti's rating is supposed to be 10 and South Africa's is supposed to be 9. I couldn't make this change in my digital product because it started off as a keynote then I turned it into a movie, for me to go edit this minor error I would have to edit the keynote, export it, re-upload it to school tube, then re-post it to the blogger, which would take an awful long time.

If there was anything I could change about my project, it  would be making sure all of my ratings were correct.

My Reflection

Posted by Mckelly Timothy in Storytelling - Chase on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 12:04 am
I am on top of everything so far for my benchmark. My timeline is complete, my twitter account is created and there are several posts up from my character. I have even found different ways to show my characters feelings and emotions and her individuality. I am only struggling with how to speed up the time it takes for me to tell my story, I think I may cut some of it out. I changed my initial plans on creating a facebook, for each character, I felt like the twitter would be easier for my character to tell her story. People on facebook have too many opportunities to ask too many questions, which would make my character seem too weird and secretive. My project is coming alone really well. I am going to continue working on my posts but hopefully by Monday I will get deeper into my story.

Benchmark season is in full swing. Once this time comes around there are groups of students huddled in every corner of the school trying to get work done. My friends and I decided to go to the college office. We asked could we work in here and we were told "Yea sure why not?"
We began working and eating lunch with limited dialogue, this was the quietest lunch since second quarter. We were interrupted with" We need this room." We responded we're working." He looked and said "It looks like your socializing." I rudely responded with "Looks can be deceiving, you're older, you're wiser you should know that right." "He said look I'm gonna have to give you the boot." My friend said" You dont have to do anything." He began to get impatient and yelled these kids need to work on their PSSA and its more important than benchmarks." My friends and I looked at each other sideways knowing we disagreed. It doesn't to us we have to do these benchmarks to graduate by the time those tests are processed and graded we will be enjoying our summer vacations. As we were packing our belongings because we gave up on the argument and decided to just yell, one of my friends said "Hold up they shoulda been finished that test, its not my fault they couldn't finish that problem or came late." Then we walked out. I never thought that this test would frustrate me and I'm not even taking it. I'm a senior it shouldn't even bother me.

Dear Diary,
I can’t believe he called me in such a panic. Why would he even risk letting anyone know? Its has almost been a year, why now? He knows that my mom could pick up the other phone on the same line at any time. I shouldn’t even have to write in a journal with a lock meant for a locker attached to it. I do what I have to there is no way that anyone could find out about what I did. My life would be over, my mom would never forgive me.
He had the nerve to call me and ask me should we just come clean. I didn’t know what to say to him, I sat there silently for a moment then hung up.
I went above and beyond to avoid him today in school. I cut science class and lunch. I couldn’t see his face or sit next to him knowing that he is thinking about outing the truth.

"Finish all your homework before you call me"
I responded "ok" in an irritated tone.
Moments later I grab my phone and began to dial his number.
He answers and asks "You done?"
I quickly replied "Yes"
I decided to double check on Moodle. I noticed I had to post this story.
In the middle of his complaining about his day, I mumbled "O crap I gotta post this story"
He paused and yelled "Didn't I tell you to finish your work?" I said "Yea, but this not due til the end of class, I'm chilling."
He demanded that I finish my work before I called him back so that's what I am doing and now I am really done my work.

Saturday started off perfectly fine. I cleaned up and did laundry. Once 6 O'clock hit I thought maybe I should get dressed and head out. Everyones plans just didn't sound appeasing. One friend suggested a hotel party I thought no. Another suggested the movies I thought why pay when I get free tickets in advance. My bf suggested bowling I'm tired of losing so I told him I wasn't up to it. Surprisingly my mother suggested the best thing. She said "how about you go to sleep." I looked at her sideways and said "great idea." That's how I spent a beautiful Saturday evening.

On my last trip home I  lost my arm, I don’t know why or how.

I missed out on a year of my life

After so much worrying, the police finally released Kevin. He came top the hospital, it was nice to know that I didn’t lose him along with my arm.

I screamed and cried as I explained to the police that Kevin didn’t belong in the hospital. They thought that I was just in shock from what happened to my arm as they tried to understand and figure out how I lost my arm.

“How did you hurt your arm?” they asked.  “Who hurt you?” I was stuck on the words they used: Hurt. They acted as if my arm wasn’t missing. Didn’t they see it was missing.

“It was an accident.” I yelled. “An Accident.”

They started nagging me about Kevin. Their words went in one ear and out the other.

I took a long pause when they finished speaking. I yelled once more “It was an accident, Kevin did not hurt me. Get out and let me see him”

I've been staring at this clock for about 30 minutes and it has felt as though it has been thirty days.  I am so excited about leaving but my ride is taking forever, I walked down the hallway and walked back, same time.  Went into the kitchen and got something to drink, 30 seconds passed.  I made my bed, re-combed my hair, listened to a 7 minute song and still only 1 minute has passed.  This is going to be potentially the longest part of my night.  Tick, tick, tick, he said 3:30 it's 3:31 he's a minute late, I wonder if there's something wrong. Ding Dong, oh that must be him, I should probably get dressed.

Laying in the hotel my room I took a look at my phone noticed 8 o'clock was quickly approaching. I yelled to my friend "Is everything done?"
She quickly responded with "Yup"
I asked "Who is coming because this room is small?"
Shortly after  while waiting for a response there was a knock at door. I rubbed my hands together anxiously and said "we got room service" in a jokingly manner.
I got up and looked through the peep hole to my surprise and uninvited guy was at our door who watched us walk to the room from the pool. We could clearly see he was under the influence while he struggled to get out the words " Ya'll having a party?"
We said "no" and slammed the door.
While walking back to my bed my friend said "he obviously isn't coming."

While on my way home, my phone ringing with Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” in my pocket, my hands were freezing so I left them in my pocket and continued to walk because I doubted the call was important enough for me to risk being more uncomfortable knowing that I was a long way from heat the thought alone was killing me, after a long period of my pain distracting me from the call even though I wondered who was calling me, while I was thinking, my phone stopped ringing my suffering just began, the wind smacked my face, harder than a furious parent causing tears to roll down my slowly causing more pain, In order to get home, waited patiently for about twenty minutes looking for the bus, once I noticed that there were about 20 people at the bus stop, since there was a delay, my mind told me that I wouldn’t make it home using that route unless the buses came back to back, rather than walking a few blocks for the trolley I continued to wait because my stubborn ways took over the motive to get out of the frigid weather, although I knew that I should call my mother or brother,  they didn’t want me to go out that night, as soon as I would decide to dial her number it would be no going back to avoid her long speech that would prove me wrong and  since I wanted to be right like everyone always wants to be whether they know they are wrong or not  when I saw someone step into the street and smile I knew the bus was coming, I made the executive decision to reach into my other pocket and check my phone which shockingly turned out to be a text from my brother saying “Do you want a ride home?”

Story #3

Waking up in a morning looking at my clock noticing that I was an hour late left me frightened. I jumper in the shower and prepared myself for school. Being on my 7th strike, I was never so motivated in my life to get to school on time to avoid Saturday detention. After I was dressed I headed out the door and realized my poor puppy didn’t eat breakfast. I ran back in the house dumped some food in his bowl and poured water without looking. Now because of my morning rush my puppy has to eat soggy food. I power-walked to the bus stop and got a message from my sis asking me was I ready for school. I looked at the time the message was sent and remembered I set my clock forward 45 mins to watch a show I was anxious for the night before…

Walking in the rain with the one I love and I stop traffic.

“What's The Matter? Tell Me What You Want Me to Do?”

“I need love.”

“Can you help me?”

“No, no, no.”

“Tell me where did we go wrong? Here we go again.”

“Listen once in a while, I wish and I think and I sit the fuck down and a realize niggas ain’t shit. Wondering what’s not being said, I pray you call me. If only you knew you got me wondering if you were mine where this love could end up. If you were mine, I'll never let you go. Could it be more than friends I knew I love you. I just wanna be your girl I wanna know can we chill say something lie to me un-break my heart I don't want to miss a thing you mean the world to me if ya girl only knew the love that we had… Why Wouldn't I “Hmmm”

“Shut up and Drive I Won't Tell”

“Let This Go”

“ Where Is The Love?”

“ It's over now”

Lie To Me!”

“I'm Sorry”

“Lets call It Off”

“Don't say nothing.”

“I'm sorry, just being honest”

“You are foolish what if I never loved A man and I said I loved you... but I lied….”

Hotel, Motel, Nevermind Im Staying In...

Posted by Mckelly Timothy in Storytelling - Chase on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 9:48 pm

Everyone can relate to me, when I say we are all coming to that age. The one where we can say “I’m legal”, or to sass a teacher when they tell you “tilt your screens” and you mumble “I’m grown”, low enough for them to not catch your exact words but at a volume to make your peers chuckle.

For some accepting you’re aging is the challenge and taking on new responsibilities. For others planning the celebration would be one of the most challenging things. Well for me it is. Even though we consider ourselves to be “legal” or “grown” we still have those parents who cant let go, or at least loosen their grip. My friends and I decided to throw a hotel party together to all celebrate our 18th year.

“Who are we inviting?” I asked eagerly.

“I don’t know everybody.”  My friend responded quickly.

“ C’mon were gonna get kicked out.” I said resisting her idea.

“It’s a risk you have to take.”

“ Wait how ya’ll paying for it and what ya’ll telling ya’ll parents?” A random voice added in.

“Look man we will worry about that when the time comes.” I said in a jokingly manner.

We then spoke realistically about our plans and decided to propose our ideas to our parents. As I was relaxed my phone rang, I received a text saying “What’s your mom’s number?”

I eavesdropped on the conversation between my mother and my friend’s mother. I could only make out a few words but I was sure when I heard “They think they’re grown.” Once you here that, its downhill from there.  I crept back into my room.

Soon after a brief conversation, the next thing I knew, the hotel party was on hold. I received a call from mom saying “I have plans this weekend I don’t plan on chaperoning.”

With confusion I asked “what?”

I slowly came to the realization that my plans were falling apart. I asked her “how can you just volunteer yourself to attend my party mom I’m grown you don’t have to watch me or my friends?”  And she said “how old are you?”

Proudly I danced a little and I responded with “ I’m 18!”

She said “Right and until your 21 and can answer me without dancing I’m responsible for you. I will sleep on it.”

Blog #5 Finalize & Extend

Posted by Mckelly Timothy in American Government - Laufenberg on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 10:21 pm
For my final blog post, I wanted to actually contact my representative Dwight Evans. I wanted to see what his plans are to reduce violence in Philly and introduce some of my plans to him. I also wanted to attend one of his events/ try to help him with his attempts to solve the issue. To start this process I wrote and sent an e-mail to him with my ideas:
My ideas included:

•Interventions for teens to educate them about violence and create a way for them to feel safe when they feel in danger of uncomfortable.
•Creating more after school programs for teens rather than just younger children.
•Create another organization similar to Work Ready but make it more accessible so teens can have more job opportunities.

My email was sent but I didn't receive a response. Dwight Evans didn't have any  scheduled events that I was be able to attend before the due date of this assignment.

Here is a photo of the letter that I emailed him: Please Zoom in.

Adoption Reflection (Tajh & McKelly)

Posted by Mckelly Timothy in American Government - Laufenberg on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 7:34 am

Adoption Flow Chart

My partner and I decided to choose adoption for our bureaucratic task. We first researched Adoption. We looked for steps and qualifications. We tried to find paper work but to receive the paperwork you have to contact an agency. The way the paperwork was described seemed difficult but within reason. There is a lot to do. Regardless of how awesome you may think your family is or how perfect you filled out paperwork the agency and lawyers have almost all of the say if you’re a good fit for adopting a child.

If I could change anything about my bureaucratic function and the process, I would want to contact a person who adopted a child.  This would give me a chance to get a more realistic point of view on adoption and get information about the process that wasn’t available from researching.

After completing the flowchart, which included many steps to just meet a child or to get approved to be a candidate for adopting a child. I realized that this process is very complicated. I think that the bureaucratic system is complicated because all of the bureaucratic functions are serious and especially with adoption a child's life is involved. Maybe the process is complicated because it is a test for commitment and to also check to insure the person applying for the function is reliable and will live up to the responsibilities. I think it is also difficult because bureaucratic functions are things that everyone doesn’t qualify for. If adopting, divorce, buying a house, and getting a restraining order was available to everyone who applied it would be no purpose in applying for them.

Communication Blog #4

Posted by Mckelly Timothy in American Government - Laufenberg on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 6:41 pm
I am now at the step of communicating with Dwight Evans. He has been working on  strategies for reducing violence, which are very similar to mine. We both grew up in Philadelphia, so we know what it is like to be surrounding by violence. We both want to focus on children. If children learn about other ways to solve issues without violence it will be reduced. Providing children with education and activities will allow them to stay occupied. Without an education there is a low chance in becoming successful because with no education, there will be no jobs and with no jobs comes along poverty and at the end of the chain poverty leads to violence. One of his solutions was a bill called Philadelphia's gun ordinances. The bill was created so that:

• The city is allowed to force its citizens to report a lost or stolen gun within 24 hours.

• Police are allowed to seize guns from those “considered to pose a risk to themselves or others.”

• Those subject to a protection-from-abuse order may not own a firearm within the city.

• Need to purchase more than one gun a month then you can.

There isn’t much that I can do to increase the process of this bill being approved. So I thought about working with him on another solution. Which is improving education opportunities and conditions, and working to reduce violence in the City Of Philadelphia & reaching out to children and discussing violence and violence prevention.  To start this I will e-mail / write a letter to him with my ideas:

    •    Interventions for teens to educate them about violence and create a way for them to feel safe when they feel in danger of uncomfortable.
    •    Creating more after school programs for teens rather than just younger children.
    •    Create another organization similar to Work Ready but make it more accessible so teens can have more job opportunities.

    •    I will also make a Facebook page and an anonymous survey to ask my friends if these things above were to happen do they think they would be a part of it.

Violence In Philadelphia

Posted by Mckelly Timothy on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 8:37 pm
Pending Legislation On Violence

The state supreme court ruled on Philadelphia's gun ordinances on June 11, 2010.
These laws basically state:

• The city is allowed to force its citizens to report a lost or stolen gun within 24 hours.
• Police are allowed to seize guns from those “considered to pose a risk to themselves or others.”
• Those subject to a protection-from-abuse order may not own a firearm within the city.
• Need to purchase more than one gun a month then you can.

Things seem to be on hold with the law. Dwight Evans lost his title holding the positiong  of chairman of the Appropriations Committee, which he held for almost 20 years. Dwight evans has had a succesful outcome with his projects such as support are the Pennsylvania Convention Center, the creation of the Ogontz Avenue Revitalization Corp. in West Oak Lane, shaping how Pennsylvania’s share of the stimulus package was spent, school reform, education funding and creating the Fresh Food Financing Initiative. With someone taking his title, it seems like all his work will be put on hold or won't be acknowledged.

Others Working on this

The law is still pending. Much hasn't changed since June. This is an article that is an overview of what is going on with the pending law. There are several elected officials working on this issue, such as Mayor Nutter, Dwight Evans, Donna Reed Miller, Walter M. Phillips Jr, Babette Josephs and many more. This is one of the first laws I have ever seen with almost every official coming to an agreement. Considering this there aren't people opposing this law.

     Who can you influence?

Can you help me find a job? Can you get me an internship?' " This shows that children and or teens are the main target for influence. They are the ones who are pressed to get jobs and internships. If they understand that supporting Dwigh, joseph, Miller, and the others who are working to stop gun violence could help then get jobs and internships, I am sure they would be all for it.

                                                Key Date

December 2, 2010
“We will suffer,” said Council Majority Leader Marian Tasco. “It is truly a sad time for Philadelphians to lose their strongest voice,” she said, pointing out work Evans had done to bring money for grocery stores, museums, arts and recreation to the city. There will be a meeting on December 2, 2010, this meeting isn't completely on the Law about violence, but the conditions Philadelphia is in now that we have " lost our strongest voice. This meeting will be used to discuss issues tax increases, no union contracts and health care spending emergencies. There hasn't been anything that happened with the gun laws since June 11, 2010. 2010 was a good year for this law. It made a lot of progress in the beginning of the year but towards the end nothing productive has been done. Hopefully after the scheduled meeting on December 2 the gun law will get back on the right track.

Violence In Philadelphia

Posted by Mckelly Timothy on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 8:35 pm
Dwight Evans

Evans stated that “legislators should move beyond boundary lines and party labels to take action on gun control.”

It is not hidden that violence is on the rise in Philadelphia. Many people notice it, and do nothing about it. One person who is fighting to change the increasing numbers of murders/ attacks in Philadelphia is Dwight Evans. Dwight Evans is a Pennsylvania State Representative. He runs the 203rd district which is in in Northwest Philadelphia. Dwight Evans entered the Pennsylvania House of Representatives  in 1980.  Since he has held the position, Dwight Evan has several goals for improving the safety and lifestyles for members of our community and always worked to support them. While holding the position as the PA State Rep, Dwight Evans has been successful in creating legislations for increasing job opportunities and economic development, improving education opportunities and conditions, and working to reduce violence  in the City Of Philadelphia.

He focuses on reaching out to children and discussing violence and violence prevention. He has conducted several presentations to Philadelphia students about violence. Unlike many politicians that just discuss the issues to other politicians he speaks to the people being effected by the issue and gives them useful information on the issue.

Dwight Evans strategies for reducing violence are similar to mine. We both grew up in Philadelphia, so we know what it is like to be surrounding by violence. We both want to focus on children. If children learn about other ways to solve issues without violence it will be reduced. Providing children with education and activities will allow them to stay occupied. Summarizes Dwights intentions as a State Rep and for his district.

                                                People Against Dwight Evans

PENNSYLVANIA
"This month, all gun owners in Pennsylvania need to stand up and be heard. Anti-gun legislators, led by Representative Dwight Evans (D-Philadelphia), are pushing new gun control measures in Harrisburg. Pointing to data from a recent Democratic Party funded poll that indicates suburban residents are concerned about gun violence, Evans stated that “legislators should move beyond boundary lines and party labels to take action on gun control.” Gun-control legislation has been dead on arrival in Harrisburg for more than a decade, because the balance of the General Assembly supports the rights of gun owners. However, if Representative Evans and his supporters are successful this could change overnight. With your help, we can again stop this from happening. Pennsylvania gun owners have two important dates to remember:

September 25th - Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing: Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Stewart Greenleaf (R-12) schedules final hearing in Harrisburg - On Sept. 25, the Senate Judiciary Committee will be holding a final hearing to receive testimony relating to urban violence. The hearing will be held 10:00 a.m., in Room 8E-B of the East Wing. During the past several months, the committee has heard testimony from public officials and anti-gun zealots insisting on new gun control legislation to combat urban crime. This will be the final opportunity for NRA members to voice their discontent regarding the lack of enforcement and prosecution of federal and state firearm laws which has fueled violent crime over the past year. If you’re planning on testifying or need additional information, contact Gregg Warner of Sen. Greenleaf's office, (717) 787-6599 or gwarner@pasen.gov. "

Violence In Philadelphia

Posted by Mckelly Timothy in American Government - Laufenberg on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 8:31 pm
"It's nothing you can do. It's never gonna change, that's the way life is in Philadelphia."- A.J., Masterman High School student who was attacked.

I am lobbying to change the amount of violence in the Philadelphia community.  I am interested in trying to change the way that violent events in Philadelphia are handled. There isn’t many things being done to reduce violence in Philadelphia, besides the occasional events to turn in illegal or old guns for money. These events normally receive a positive turnout. There should be more events like this more often. Innocent children lives are cut too short due to guns being in the hands of the wrong people and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. We need more things for the youth to do and more events for them o be a part of that your average teenager in Philadelphia would enjoy. To solve violence in Philadelphia, it would take a very long time simply because such a drastic change could not happen over night. I would like to attempt to remove guns from the streets of Philadelphia. Right now my solution is undecided.

As a teenager growing up in south west Philadelphia. I have lost several friends due to violence. Even though some of the deaths don’t effect me directly it is still devastating. There was an article discussing teen deaths due to violence in Philadelphia. The rate of teen deaths in Philadelphia is on a rise and there isn’t enough being done at the city level.

The teen violence is getting out of control in December there was an attack on Asian teens at South Philadelphia high and nothing was being done about it several stories were written about this issue.

Who is Helping?

There are several supporters but it still seems like there isn’t enough being done. There is only so much council members who are mentioned in this article can do. There are several organizatons assisting . One organization was started and funded by a councilman Dwight Evans, the  is a organization which I was a member of which is A blue Print for A Safer Philadelphia. This anti- violence organization mission states “The Blueprint for a Safer Philadelphia Initiative is a 10-year community-based violence prevention initiative with the goal of eliminating all youth homicide in Philadelphia by the year 2016. State Representative Dwight Evans created The "Blueprint" by securing $16 million in state funding and bringing a number of key partners to this historic effort.”

Why tamper with evolution by protecting endangered species?

Posted by Mckelly Timothy in Science and Society - Best on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 9:01 pm

It is said that extinction is a natural occurrence in evolution. Even though this is true, scientist believe that we should still save some species because they are dying before evolution can happen. The extinction of just one species can have a drastic impact on many other species. The only way protecting endangered species could be considered tampering with evolution is by killing species faster than evolution. As said by PBS, “No species exists in a vacuum”, no one species is isolated so every species has an effect on the other.

In today’s society there are many organizations working to save endangered species. These organizations realized that all species play a role in another’s life. If we were to lose a large number of one species there will be no food for the species that feed on them. Which would lead to the death of several species until we are all gone.

Many think of saving endangered species as tampering with evolution as said by Sheila Conant, Professor, and Department of Zoology University of Hawaii.  She believes that the endangerment of species is a natural process. She says this because a majority of the time species becomes endangered because their habitat has inadequate food quality or amount. This lowers the chances of an animal’s reproduction, and survival.

When we move an animal for instance moving polar bears to America because the are endangered that is an example of tampering with evolution because we are removing the species from its natural habitat, which is tinkering with its food, and natural reproduction abilities.

Questions

 - Since we believe animals evolve, why  aren't new species with similar but better characteristics created from evolution before extinction occurs?

- Is it possible to speed up the process of evolution?

- Do species become extinct not just because they can't survive in the present conditions but because they have no chance of survival in the future ?

Voting Polls Interview

Posted by Mckelly Timothy in American Government - Laufenberg on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 10:59 am

Me: 1. What motivated you to vote?

Ms. Boykin: My grand daughter goes to Temple and told me Joe Sestak was personally handing out flyers. That showed dedication I had to go vote.

Me: 2.  Do you vote every election?

Ms. Boykin: I vote at every Presidential Election.

Me: Do you know why we vote on Tuesday's ?

Ms. Boykin: Yes! Because they assume I don't have anything else to do. Just kidding, I remember asking my dad why, and I think he said something like way back , people went downtown all the time on Tuesdays to go to the markets. It was the most busy day so they kept it on Tuesdays, to keep a strong vote turnout.

Me: Where do you encounter the most campaigning ads?

Ms. Boykin: On Tv and on my dag' gon porch!

Me: Did you learn about voting in school?

Ms. Boykin:Nope!

Me: Are you always sure of who you are going to vote for when you walk into the booth or do you deliberate in the booth?

Ms. Boykin: Most of the time I know because I mainly go vote during Presidential Elections.

Me: Thank you so much for your time Ms.Boykin.

Ms. Boykin: No problem.

This is my quarter 1 American Government Benchmark. For this assignment I had to pick a bill and explain the process it went through to become a bill. The bill i picked was vetoed by the President. This made my project a little more interesting. To present my assignment I decided to create a Prezi.
Here it is.
