Alexander Robert Marothy, Q3 Art Portfolio: "The Art of Language"

Posted by Alex Marothy in Art Advanced - Hull - a1 on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 1:17 pm

I have made and described in my art a large array of feelings and sensations which arrive at the surface when viewing earth's ceiling. The stars igniting the clouds, reaching the greatest mountains or diving into the planet's core, they are sketching the sky along with the moon, in both its presence and its terrible, lonely absence. As aware and perceptive animals, people are, in whatever they do, affected by those shining balls of matter and energy. We smile upon the art the stars create—the tender love of the clouds and the old and brittle waves of heat. And the few who seek to document these majestic influxes with hand and page? They are the birth-rites of the stars, alive and on fire—a love of art. These children, when all the rest of this earth is in decay, will reach up from and out of the windows of our great skyscrapers. These offspiring who, when the sun disappears forever behind the clouds, will be be there to recreate the perfect art of this earth. Their Art will be all that is left.

Quarter 3 Art Portfolio

Posted by Esperanza Gonzalez in Art Advanced - Hull - a1 on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 7:24 pm

During this third quarter in Ms. Hull’s two day art class, everything has been excellent. In this quarter we had to make the following pieces; a self portrait, a value drawing, a basic shapes drawing, and an animal sketch.  All of the pieces were given 100% of my time and effort, which can clearly be seen through the work. I believe that this quarter has been my best yet. I loved making every single piece because I like variety. I also like trying new things, and this quarter was all about that.

My favorite piece of art work was definitely the panda drawing I made. Personally for me, animals are one of my favorite things in the world. I love animals. My favorite animal is the panda. I think they’re adorable and loving. I believe giving it personality is something I struggled with. I wanted the panda to transmit the peace and loving environment he was in. I used darker shades to interpret that. It was very fun and the best drawing of a panda I have ever made!

Kadija`s Q3 Art Portfolio

Kadija`s Artist Statement:
Looking at my artwork and the way I work, I always want to make sure that I tell a story. I make sure that everything that I do, I stay true to myself. Throughout the 3rd marking period, I have had some trials and tribulations. One of which was with my self portrait using ink. I accidentally let the portrait sit around in the room without making sure it was secure, and then someone ripped it unfortunately.
At first I thought that I had to start over, but then I thought about how this could tell a story, and so I taped it up, and created artwork. I knew that without that rip it would`t be the same. That is how I wanted my artwokr to be, different and something that I knew could tell a story.
I liked this quarter a lot, because I think that I really showed how I could be creative and also go out my comfort zone. Last trimester, I think that I had not gone out my comfort zone and stayed very safe. I think this quarter I could really show off my art skills.

Q2 Art Work

Posted by Antoinette Hiller in Art Advanced - Hull - a1 on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 9:42 am

As an artist, I think that it is important to understand that art isn't something that just inspires the artist, it also inspires the audience. This is why it's important that every artist's piece of work is strong an captivating. In this quarter, we were basing our art work off of points of view (this is what I go out of it as least). As you view my art work, I want you to see the detail and the effort that was thoroughly taken for you to understand and see what I see. This quarter taught me how to be patient when it came to finding a piece and creating it in the image of my own. I hope you all enjoy and thank you.

Q2 Art Portfolio

This quarter was definitely more challenging that the last.  It gave me the push I needed and I feel as if I am slowly moving the right direction as an artist.  Unlike last quarter, there was limited self-doubt and bouts of anger over mistakes that I have made on a certain piece that I was making.  My newfound self-confidence is bound to help me succeed again next quarter but even more than I did this quarter and last.
I felt that my best piece of work was my fabric drawing.  By following Ms. Hull advice to draw what I saw and not what I thought I saw, I was able to make a drawing that I was happy with instead of disgusted by.  I used the light to place the shadows in the right places and to highlight where it touched the fabric.  With these steps in place, I hope the future holds even more discoveries about me as an artist.

Brandon Jones Art portfolio

This quarter opened many opportunities to create many interesting pieces of art. Freedom of Art played a big role in every piece in this Portfolio. The first piece in the portfolio was to create a collage of whatever the artist wanted. When making this, I chose the video games that have impacted my life and inspired me to make art and to be more creative. The next piece I created was an edit of a photo of my choice. The piece after that was a fabric drawing. With that we had to show the shadowing and creases of the object we drew. The last piece we had to create was an illustration of a piece of writing such as a poem or a novel. The poem I chose was Shel Silversteins The Diving Board and then I illustrated it. The poem reads: "You’ve been up on that diving board
Making sure that it’s nice and straight.
You’ve made sure that it’s not too slick.
You’ve made sure it can stand the weight.
You’ve made sure that the spring is tight.
You’ve made sure that the cloth won’t slip.
You’ve made sure that it bounces right,
And that your toes can get a grip– –
And you’ve been up there since half past five
Doin’ everything … but DIVE.

Tenzin Chemi Q2 Portfolio

Posted by Tenzin Chemi in Art Advanced - Hull - a1 on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 8:17 pm

This quarter, we were able to do some very interesting projects. Freedom in perspective played an important role in each of these pieces. The first project was creating a collage of whatever the artist desired. I decided to make a piece that represented culture. In this piece,  I knew I wanted to have patterns and different colors to show culture in my perspective, rich and colorful. However, I also wanted my piece to have simplicity in it's looks, so in the final product looks both colorful and simple. Our second piece was drawing fabric by shading and showing contrast to see the creases of the fabric. The third part of our project was to take a picture of something showing depth of field and then editing it on a given website. The final piece of the project was to pick a piece of writing such as a poem or a novel and illustrate something out of it. I picked my favorite poem called There, I still will be by Mirtha Michelle Castro Marmol and illustrated the poem in my perspective.

The poem goes:
I gave you the sun
But you wanted the moon.
When I gave you the moon,
You wanted the stars.
So I reached blindly,
for the most infinite stars,
And wrapped myself
Around each one of them,
Just for you.
The stars,
the moon and the sun combined,
Weren't enough for your fickle heart.
So I took my tears,
And made you a sea,
So you can sail the earth
And find the impossible treasure,
You constantly seek.
Yet every morning,
my sun will be there to wake you.
Every night, My moon will be there to calm you.
And if you ever need me,
Look amongst the stars,
Wrapped in each one of them,
There, I still will be.

Q2 Art Portfolio — Breathing In the Sky

Posted by Alex Marothy in Art Advanced - Hull - a1 on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 4:28 pm

I have produced and portrayed in my art a wide variety of emotions precipitated when watching the sky. The moon shooting into the clouds, scaling the largest monoliths or falling into the vast oceans, it is painting the night sky along with all the stars, in both its absence and its wonderful, shining presence. As intelligent and sensitive creatures, humans are psychologically and emotionally affected by that perfect rock. We inevitably smile upon the moon's art—the cold blue clouds and tired purple sky. And those who immortalize this magic with pencil and paper? They are daughters of the moon, burning with an infinite love—a passion for art and creation and life. This daughter who, when all else dies, will burst from the top of the tallest mountain. This daughter who, when the moon falls away from the earth finally, will be left only to reimagine our sanctuary of deliverance upon her page in long lines of magic. Art will save us.
