In my 1 slide I used a variety of colors to draw the audience attention. I made my letters big so that they stand out. I tried not to cramp my 1 slide up so I only put 4 pictures in my slide to tell about myself. Of course I wanted to add many more pictures but I did not want my classmates eyes to roll all over the place. I decided to use bright colors for my background because bright colors tend to make people happy. Also these four pictures strongly describe who I am and what I like.
When I first started creating my slide for this presentation, I couldn’t figure out which idea I wanted to do. I came across this quote a couple months ago, and I loved how relatable the definition of l’esprit l’escalier was. Since I am the type of person who brain works faster than my mouth, whenever I think of a reply in a conversation that’s a fully formed thought the next topic is introduced and I try to think of something to say, and the whole cycle repeats again. I wasn’t sure which picture I would put, if I wanted to put stairs, the infinity stair design or a ladder. The staircase would make the most sense, since l’esprit l’escalier translates to staircase wit, but the infinte staircase would be a nice touch because of the idea that a perfect conversation is infinite and unimaginable.
I wanted my slide to look like an electronic billboard and i wanted it to be about the video game section in my me magazine. I love video game they are something i enjoy to do in my free time and something i go to do when i'm feeling down. I also followed on Presentation Zen to be noticed, be read/understood, be remembered, and hope a action is taken or one's thinking is influenced. How I decided to be noticed is to put gifs of video games that I like which are moving pictures I made sure to make the image bleed off so the they can take any space that they can get so it will be noticed and seen. I also put a baby blue background so then the white letters would pop out.
Then I followed instructions from Slide Design For Developers and it said that I need a bright color in the background which stated from the paragraph before is baby blue. It also said that the size of the words for the slide needed to be big so people could see it and notice it. So I made my words and pictures big so everyone could see and notice it very clearly. It also stated that I needed to worry about my slide. What this means is to step into the audience's shoes to see if that your slide is reliable, useful, full of attention and interesting. I hope you enjoy the slide and the script that i made.
For my tech slide, I decided to make my slide simple. From the research that I did, I learned that making the text of your slide big will help you catch the attention of the audience and will make the text clearer and easier to read to the audience. I also learned that making the text contrast from the colors of the background helps the text stand out.That's why I decided to bold and colored my text black because I wanted my text to stand out from the background.The things that I learned helped create my one slide.
I made this slide to reflect who I am and what I care about. I chose a theater because it fills the space and the image bleeds off the page. Another thing the websites said was to have it be visual, so I made my font big and made it pop out. I chose the cursive font because it is very elegant and catches the eye. I chose the Shakespeare quote because that is one of my favorite quotes for him. I feel like I can really relate to this quote, and I also put it on my slide to reflect my love of literature. Not some skinny white girl that eats salads everyday for lunch and takes public transportation. *Said in a snobby voice stuck up voice*
What could she do for him, c´mon really. She´s poor and has absolutely no shape.
I could take him in my new Lincoln and give him a real ride if you catch my drift. *laughs* Something she can never do with that skinny horrific body. I would recommend surgery but *laughs*, she doesn't have the money for that. Hell, nothing can help that, that thing. She´s just bound to live her life looking like a mentally disturbed duck whilst gazing upon my beautiful biceps and killer looks. Not to mention my over loaded pockets. With these looks and this money, who wouldn't want me. Even straight guys want me.

Ignorant ass people, now, where was I? What happened to me? I’m worse than what I was in high school! A very depressed kid who couldn’t find who she was because she’d always listen to the negativity others would bring to her. Me, I was the person who was bullied from third grade because *pauses* *sniffle* B-because I use to come to school with bruises on my body, all the way through high school, because I was the quiet girl with a drunken father who always came to the school to argue with the teachers about notes being sent home regarding bruises on my body.
After my first time smoking weed, I relied on it as a fake coping mechanism. I knew I could deal with my father beating me senseless every night, but, I chose not to. I chose to escape from reality. Soon, it became an addiction, and a gateway to cocaine.
I got so addicted, I just couldn't be me without it.
I numb the pain with the drugs because I lost touch of the Lord, I lost touch of myself because I'm living in a world so fake, I lost touch of the real me.
I c, I can’t take it nomore, everytime I try to change, I go back to the same things! This is karma, It's coming all at once because I was so stupid in high school. *gets mad* I was stupid for following the crowd. Getting drunk and smoking weed at a tenth grade party. I thought it was so innocent at first, like “this cant harm you, this won't harm you, you're just having fun Mariana. You know when to stop you know better, Mariana.”
Of course I didn’t reach for help when I knew it became a problem. I didn't have anyone to turn to, because every time I would try to talk about my situation, my p-p-pops would just s-slap me senseless and tell me to shut the fuck up and handle it myself. To stop bitchin about any and every thing. *wipes tear* He’s been an alcoholic abuser since my mom left him, since she left us.
How could she, how could she leave me with him knowing how he was. I couldn't stay with him so I packed my bags and left when I was 17 to live with my friend. And things didn't go so well because he was arrested soon, his house was taken away for drugs.
Now what? Im 21 years old living on the street with no job or thought of the future. I am a disgrace to mankind, it's time for me to make a change. It's time for me to go to rehab and get my life together because I don't give a fuck if I go to jail, I much rather be clean in jail or rehab, than stay out here in the cold dangerous world. I can’t believe, I can’t believe I ran away from the one person I loved, the one person that always had my back, the one person I trusted, and the one person and that one person was me. Now its time for me to find myself and discover my true identity.
When I was making my slides, I wanted to make mine simple. I do not want to distract the viewer with pictures or words that were unnecessary. I used the rule of the third while making the slide. I made a 3 by 3 chart and then spread it across the whole screen, so I can see where to place pictures/words according to the rules of the thirds. I did not want everything to be at the top or bottom of the screen, so I put certain components in different parts of the slide that would look best. I put the silhouette of a dog in the bottom right hand corner so it does not interfere with the quote. I also wanted to make the words pretty big so it is readable, but not so big that the spacing between the words look off. I bolded the word dog, because that is the most important part of the slide. The slide is showing my love for dogs, and having the word dog bolded makes that word stand out and makes viewers eyes go for it first.
Hi, I’m Emma, and I chose to model my slide after Presentation Zen. I used a soccer player as my background because I am very passionate about soccer. I also included my soccer number… #10 and placed that on the girl’s left sleeve in a sky blue hue to highlight my identity because that is my number. Presentation Zen states that enlarging your text grabs the attention of your viewers, so I made sure that my text was big and very noticeable. I also included a quote from one of my favorite soccer players, Mia Hamm. This quote motivates me to work hard in everything that I do. This quote played a huge role in my sister’s life as well. As many of you may know there was a Women’s March that took place last year on January 23. My sister used this quote on her sign and many people took pictures of it and she ended up going viral. This quote means a lot to me because it contradicts the idea that men are better athletes. I incorporated the rule of thirds and contrast in my slide. I used contrast with the color of number but also the color of the text “I run like a girl”, highlighting that part of the quote makes it mine. The colors I used in my design work very well together: black and blue are cool colors which pop against the white background.
What I changed
Usually in past presentations, I have made my slides “Boring” as Ms. Hull would say. But thanks to her constructive criticism I have tried using some new things such as different colored words to make the presentation more attractive , I highlighted important topics and included pictures. I also gave some of my sentences colored borders.
So here is my slide. There are many reasons why I chose to make my slide look like this. First, I chose this background for three reasons. First because of the symmetry. Symmetry is not only appealing to the eye, but it also makes your slide look more interesting and professional. Secondly, I really am interested in nature, so instead of writing that out, I put in an image of a tree to resemble that. Finally, I like the colors present on the picture, so again instead of writing my favorite colors, which creates more words, I could pick an image that have those colors.
Also. I put a heart in my thing for two reasons. First I put it to the side for the bleeding effect. We all know the other half of the heart, so I can have more blank space by only putting half of it. Secondly, I like to believe that I am a kind hearted person, so the heart is there to represent that. With adding a picture, it eliminates the need for words.
Finally, I used a quote that really represented my mentality towards life. I firmly believe that if you do things in life that are given to you, you won’t get far or enjoy the life that you have. But, if you challenge yourself throughout your life, you will benefit and thank yourself in the future. Again, instead of writing all of that out, I put a quote that gets that message across. I also made the font pretty big that way you guys can read it and I made the text color light, that way it was a color contrast and easily visible.
Overall, with all of the research I did, the websites Ms. Hull provided, and my basic knowledge of how to make a good slide, I was able to make, what I believe to be, a good slide that really shows who I am.
My slides theme was anime. Anime is something I feel very deeply about and I love!
At one point in my life I had a hard time being happy because a lot of things were going on in my life and a friend recommend for me to watch anime because it could be a way to make me happy. For this slide I wanted to give it a clean look. So to achieve this I went with the empty space type of look. I wanted the corners diagonally across from each other to be empty. Then to keep the style consistent I put text in the corners that were diagonally across from each other too. I then took a picture of me and my favorite anime character (Obito Uchiha) and erased the background so it could blend in with the background and look clean. Lastly, I made the background white because it brought everything together and gave it a clean finish. I knew that color was important to bringing everything together and giving it a clean look so I choose black for the text and white for the background since my pictures were somewhat colorful.
I made my slide the way I did because it was what felt most natural to me. I started out with just the silhouette and the wording in the top left corner because that was something I knew I definitely wanted to do when the project was introduced to us. I added the paint splatters because I like how abstract paint splatters seem even if they are controlled. I also added paint splatters because it my research, I found that color is very eye catching and my original idea was just black and white with a lot of negative space so, the bright colored paint splotches added contrast. I came up with the idea of a silhouette because I didn’t want there to be too many colors for the audience to focus on. The girl is seen reading while lying down on her stomach and I picked this specific silhouette because this was the most relatable image to me. I love reading and when I am reading I normally find myself in this position. In addition to the silhouette and the paint splatters, there are words in the upper right hand corner that I think sum who I am up in less than twenty words. From the top, the words read as my birthday, my name and a sentence I thought up to describe everything about me. I was born November 3, 2002 and on that day I got my name, Londyn Monét. Over time, I became “the little girl with big dreams and a powerful mind” because I was curious about everything and interested in learning all I could while always pushing myself to go above and beyond even when it wasn’t required. Since I was a child, I’ve had crazy dreams of being trained at every profession under the sun. Now, I know I want to be a self-made billionaire to be able to help others all around the world. Can you say big dreams?
I placed everything the way I did after taking in the advice Ms.Hull gave and after doing more research on how to create an eye-catching slide. The silhouette of the girl bleeds off the slide because it makes the image appear bigger and more appealing to the audience. The paint splatters, as I mentioned before, add contrast to an otherwise black and white slide. The few words on the slide get straight to the point of telling you what the slide is about and supposed to represent; me.
My slide is all about my religion, Islam. Islam is a monotheistic religion where Muslims believe that there is no god but Allah and Muhammed is his messenger. We mostly practice peace but all of Allah’s teachings and beliefs are written down in the Holy Quran (scripture of Islam) in Arabic and translated to english in some Qurans. Muslims believe that there are 5 things that can get you into heaven, the five pillars of Islam. Shahada, believing that there is no God but Allah and Muhammed is his messenger. Salat, performing the 5 daily prayers every single day. Zakat, which is basically giving money to charity or providing needs for the less fortunate as a whole. Sawm, fasting in the month of Ramadan. The last one is Hajj, making pilgrimage to Mecca, the best place to go repent for your sins.
Muslims are only supposed to celebrate one holiday and one holiday only, Eid. Eid is celebrated twice a year, right after Ramadan is over, and almost a month or 2 after that. Ramadan consists of fasting for 30 days for the purpose of the homeless. We sacrifice food during this month and it’s the holiest month for Muslims and a lot of minor sins are forgiven during this time.
There are a few thing that i live by and one of them like you see on the slide is Dream Big Work hard and get better this can apply to many things in my life other then my passion and my drive which is baseball Ever since i was born one thing i always did was work hard and got better. From baseball, to school work, or even in everyday chores or conversation. We all start somewhere but one thing I always keep in mind is to dream big work hard get better, and i take that everywhere and use it for everything it is just something that is like and encouragement or a motive., but mostly for baseball my passion. I honestly love baseball and in all humility i am really good and i believe baseball will really be something for me in my future and as I pursue my dreams one thing i will remember is Dream big work hard and Get better
The reason why i kept it so simple though because in the links or websites they all had one thing in common and that was that they all said they had to keep it short and simple and it just need to be able to pop or be able to be understood in a few seconds something. One other reason that I also liked and followed the examples given by the links we were able to visit was it gives me the ability to explain myself and not the slide. It is like a balance of contrast in my color in my slide, i also left some space in my slide because i feel they shouldn't be focused much on my slide but more or so on me or my face.
