COVER PAGE

Name: Ananda Knight

Mentor: Elizabeth Menasion

Reason For Mentor Selection: The Reason I choose Ms. Menasion as a mentor is because she is a person in the school that I talked to often and I didn’t find it hard to converse with her and after telling her my ideas she was very supportive and we bounce new ideas off of each other well.

 Summary: For My project I will be using media and a website to bring attention to SLA and give people insight to who we are as a school, what we do, and what makes us special. Promotional Sight for Science Leadership Academy.

abstract: My process for this project was all about finding a good and interesting ways to present information that is factual, and needed but to stray away from it being boring or something that people feel like they are forced to visit and read. I have been creating a website that attracts the eye and pushes you to want to read and learn more. The website can be for students and teachers to visit but I envisioned to to be more for people who are interested on some of the things we do in our school and what the students do to contribute to the warming environment of the school. Going to high school is an important step in life and choosing the wrong place of attendance could affect you in the future. The website provides people with the choice to have an “inside look” of the school and should be helpful in determining if SLA is a place where perspective students and parents would like to be involved in. The website includes information as well as fun.

This website contains different ways in which a person could go about promoting a website of there own. One of my main concerns about my capstone and my website is that I will not get many viewers which is why this site is and will be very important for me to use. One thing I have already taken from the site was to use social networks to promote the website. Also when you want people to view a website it is best to make it highly accessible so the more you post leading links to it the more people you will get to view it.

2 "‘Digital Media’ - Website Template." Wix. N.p., n.d. Web. 26.  Jan. 2014. <http://www.wix.com/website-template/view/html/743?originUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wix.com%2Fwebsite%2Ftemplates%2Fhtml%2Fentertainment%2Ffilm%2F1&bookName=create-master-sort-290114&galleryDocIndex=3&category=entertainment#/templates/?templateId=772&themeId=original&viewMo

This is the Wix. com site. I decided to use wix because many of my classmates said that it was very easy to use and had many interesting templates that would be useful for my video blog. It contains many different themes and templates. Here is the link to the specific website template I will be using. The reason I chose this specific template is because It is mainly for videos which is what I will be posting twice a week. I also has a good amount of tabs which is good for me because I will now be able to categorize my videos since there are different topics that I will be covering in the video blog.

3 "How to Create a Video Blog." wikiHow. N.p., n.d. Web. 29 Jan. 2014. <http://www.wikihow.com/Create-a-Video-Blog>.

This website gives information about successful ways in which you can create a blog. The site gives me step by step information about the actions I could and should take in order to make my blog successful. The site even gives suggestions as to what type of camera is  best to use for recording and gives information for if you want to record using a webcam. Another useful thing about this site is it gives advice to appearance you should have for your video blog. This site is helpful and relevant to me and my capstone because I will be creating video blogs and I would like to make sure they are as clean and organized as possible.

4 Menasion, E (2014, January 24) Personal Interview

I had a talk with Mrs. Menasion about revisions to me capstone. I asked her about a good way I could make my capstone idea accessible to students but It won’t have to be shown during advisories. Together we came up with the idea to create videos and webisodes that people could go to and find out about SLA events. At the end of our conversation we decided that I will create my own website and post video blogs about SLA, Events at SLA, and Recognizing Students at SLA.

5 "Nikon D3100 User's Guide." Nikon D3100 User's Guide. N.p., n.d. Web. 30 Jan. 2014. <http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d3100/users-guide/index.htm?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twit

This site contains information about the Nikon D3100. It is a users guide for the digital camera. The Nikon is the camera in which most of my recording will be done from. The site is useful because It tells me about every feature on the camera and how to change up your settings. Im pretty proactive with how to use the camera but in order to make the process of recording blogs and making sure there are no technical difficulties this is a good site I can refer to to refresh my knowledge. With this site I can learn all of the ins and outs of the Nikon Camera.

 6 "Personal interview." EasyBib. Imagine Easy Solutions, n.d. Web. 29 Jan. 2014. <http://content.easybib.com/citation-guides/how-do-i-cite-a/personal-interview/>

This website shows how to site interviews and when you talk to a person and they give you information. The website shows how to site interviews in person, interviews by email, interviews by phone, and interviews by email. This website is helpful for me because there will be a lot of times when I ask people there opionions about the website and what they think I should change or add. I will take peoples ideas into consideration and whenever they give me ideas I will show recognition to them.

7 "Random Acts of Kindness Home Page!."Random Acts of Kindness Home Page. N.p., n.d. Web. 22 Jan. 2014. <http://www.noogenesis.com/malama/kin

I visited this site so that I could get ideas of random acts of kindness performed by people in the past, also it described what random acts of kindness are and how they help people. One of the segments of the video blog will be others and I performing random acts of kindness and trying to encourage others to do them too that is why this site is useful to me. Whenever I ran out of ideas for random acts of kindness of my own I can reflect on this website. The site contains tabs that have different stories people wanted to tell after they performed one of the many random acts and it seems like they all turned out to be very successful. They helped both the giver and receiver.

8 Roland, S. (2014, January 19) Personal Interview

I asked shay what Kind of things she would like to see on the website and what kind of videos I should make. She gave me a few good ideas for example she said “I could ask people around the school to show off some of their talents and make a student talent segment to the webisode.” She also said it would be a good idea if I put up dance tutorials.

9 "The OICB Radio & TV Career Tips Blog."3 Basic Tips For Entertaining Your Audience. N.p., n.d. Web. 31 Jan. 2014. <http://www.blog.beonair.com/bid/51340/3-Basic-Tips-For-Entertaining-Your-Audience>.

This website is all about entertaining an audience. The website gives readers tips about how to keep viewers or an audience entertained and engaged as well as interested in what you are presenting. The reason this website is useful to me is because not only do I want my website to be informative but I want it to be interesting and not boring. The website will help me be sure about ways in which I can people interested in what I have to present.

10 "What Is a blog?." Getting Started with Blog Basics. N.p., n.d. Web. 25 Jan. 2014. <http://blogbasics.com/what-is-a-blog/>.

This site gives me all the information about the basics of a blog and what exactly it is. This Site provides terminology info that I should use for the blog and when I talk about the blog to others. The site gives tips about what type of things should be posted on your blog and how you can make it to fit you as a person. The reason this site is relevant to me and my capstone because I am creating a blog so first I wanted to research what a blog is exactly and how I can make it fit to me as a person and the theme I will be blogging about.

-What did you set out to do?
For this project What I set out to do was to tell a story about two people who have been a strong influence on me and who have changed my life so much in a good way. I wanted to show that family means so much and sometimes just saying I love you or I appreciate you can go a long way.
-How does your work incorporate the art of storytelling?
Everyone has there own special way of telling a story and what makes a story powerful is how unique It is. But I created something that is very personal to me and that makes me really emotional. It also talks about me and how I grew up. I used pictures and music to tell a story.
-What do you hope your audience gains from your work?
From watching this I hope my audience just learns something new about me and my thoughts why I do what I do, Why they hear me say I cant Im babysitting a lot, why I feel obligated to do certain things and I want people to see how much I care about my niece and nephew and I want them to see that you should really appreciate family because in the end they are all you have.
-What did you gain from doing this work.

From this work for one gained a lot of patience being said that I had a lot of technical difficulties, but besides that I also realized that I should appreciate the people in my life because they have such an impact on me and I may not even know it.

Book Discussion (Introduction- chapter 3)

  • Group members present during the discussion?

  • Taylor Ximines, Tsion Habtamu, Tyikenyua Anthony, Ananda Knight

  • What your club discussed?

  • Our club the introduction of the book up until chapter 3.

  • How you discussed it?

  • We started out discussing what each chapter was about and what we got from it. We were able to make connections with the book and our personal lives as well as school assignments that we could relate to what we read. Each of us took turns stating our opinions of what we read, using quotes from the book to support our understandings.

  • Any points of conflict/disagreement in discussion?

  • No. For the most part every part of the book that we have read thus far we have all agreed on what the book was saying and how we interpreted it.

  • Questions that came up as a result of the discussion?

  • After reading the first three chapters we all are wondering what other statistical tools can be used to deceive people. So for the next few podcast the question of ways to not lie with statistics will be present.

Ananda's selfies

Posted by Ananda Knight in Storytelling - Rami - C on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 9:56 am
Choosing three selfies out of the many that I have was hard but the three that I picked say a lot about me in a way. The first picture is a selfie of myself my niece and my nephew. These two children are my life and I would do anything for them. They have helped me to mature and they get me through tough situations. My nephew is 7 months and is the most jumpy cheerful baby that I know. My Niece is 6 years old and she is like a best friend to me yes she is starting to try and challenge me but that is all part of growing up. She has a really big heart and I know I can depend on her to always love me and never give up on me. I wouldn’t trade them for anything. The next picture I would call more of a self portrait. This is a picture of me last year during my dance groups end of the year recital. This picture was taken after our swan lake dance. It was one of my first ballet performances of stage. Basically I love to dance and I hope to dance for the rest of my life. Finally the last picture is of Shay and I. Its not the best picture of us but shay and I have been friends since 6th grade and have been in the same elementary, middle, and high school. She is a very dependable friend. We may have our up and down times but what friendship doesn't at the end of the day im here for her and I know she’s here for me.

This infographic is about the Pacific Garbage Patch. We wanted to provide facts and illustrations to get our information across to viewers . We used lots of picture to show the effects on Animals and humans from the pacific garbage patch. Our main goal was to get the point across about how important the Pacific Garbage Patch is and how bad it effects the environment. We want to make more people aware and realize that this needs to be cleaned up and people should not litter.

DeShawn’s Sources:

"Great Pacific Garbage Patch." National Geographic. n. page. Web. 29 Mar. 2013. <http://education.nationalgeographic.com/education/encyclopedia/great-pacific-garbage-patch/?ar_a=1>.

  • This explains how the patch starting through environmental means. It shows how the patch started and what its effects are. The article is about how it started, where it came from, and where it goes and how.

  • The National Geographic is a well known, notable, effective source that has been putting environmental information out for a while. Their goal is to just report unbiased news.

  • It gives the barebones of what happens and it elaborates on that, but I’d use that to further my research.

Kostigen, Thomas. "The World's Largest Dump: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch." Discover Magazine. n. page. Web. 29 Mar. 2013. <http://discovermagazine.com/2008/jul/10-the-worlds-largest-dump

  • This is a person’s opinion on the garbage patch and how it effects their life. It’s basically a biased article because it’s a person’s opinion. But it shows how the patch effects human and marine life.

  • This is a part of the discovery magazine, so their information has to be true or at least legit.

This is an very good site because it provides examples of different myths that came up when people talked about the Pacific Garbage Patch, these were all common misconceptions.

The Site gives examples and tells why people thought these things and how they were wrong. This site is organized very well and provides pictures and very straight to the point descriptions. Everything makes since so I feel I can trust the site to get information from it.

At the bottom there is a space provided for people to make comments and it is interesting to see what others have to say. This site is very easy to use and I would recommend it to others trying to

My group member and I decided to present ur project using Weebly because we feel like a website is an good way to present information and also it keeps it simple. When creating the website we wanted to make sure we listed the really important components and didn't write to much where as that may overwhelm readers. We think making a website is the good way to go for this project because it allows a lot of creativity, thinking , and hard work.

Ananda Knight Hamlet close reading Act 1 Scene 5

Hamlet Analysis Act 1 Scene 5

Ananda Knight

I am thy father's spirit,

Doom'd for a certain term to walk the night,

And for the day confined to fast in fires,

Till the foul crimes done in my days of nature

Are burnt and purged away. But that I am forbid

To tell the secrets of my prison-house,

I could a tale unfold whose lightest word

Would harrow up thy soul, freeze thy young blood,

Make thy two eyes, like stars, start from their spheres,

Hamlet is written in old english and has its ways of presenting words and lines in which people today may have a hard time understanding. Even though the text may be a little hard to read the way in which Shakespeare is written makes it both interesting, and a learning experience.

The Hamlet scene that I found really interesting was Act 1 Scene 5. In this scene/ act Hamlet is introduced to the ghost of his father. His father’s ghost comes to him one night. When he first opens up to Hamlet he tells him how he has sinned and his should has yet to enter the gates of heaven because of his many untold sins. Even though the ghost of Hamlets father comes to him and presents himself and tells him that he cant go to heaven until he is punished for his sins he still refuses to tell his son what the sins are exactly for his is forbid to tell them.

When reading this at first I expected Hamlet and his fathers first words to be different. I thought that Hamlet and his father may have exchanged words like I miss you, how are you ect.

I also expected Hamlet to seem a little scared or hesitant as to how his father is appearing to him and why he can see a ghost. One question I had was did Hamlet notice that the ghost was his father even before he came out and said I am thy fathers spirit. Another question I had was what were all of the sins that the ghost had been talking about.

When I think of a king I think of a good person someone who people come to for help, guidance, and leadership. As I read this scene I wonder what kind of sins could a king have against him keeping him from his entrance into heaven. This scene is powerful because not only does it show a relationship between Hamlet and his father but It leaves readers wondering and mind boggled. Readers will be left wondering because the ghost constantly reminds the readers about how his are to horrible to be told and that he is forbid to tell them. But why? What are they? what did he do? Why can he talk to his own son about it? These are all questions that went through my mind while reading the scene. This scene includes an excerpt that makes me to continue to read the book and hope that soon my questions are answered.

This scene has a good way of telling us about the ghost’s past. was Hamlets father really a bad person or a criminal. Is there a reason why the author held back the sins in which he committed and why did he describe them as being so traitorous. I feel like this scene covered a lot with a few lines.

Artist statement
When we first got our project we thought about music and decided that we wanted our sculpture to represent something that had to do with the music we like/love. We wanted to try and make the circuit and the sculpture different and unique by making the lights go on and off from the Cd we choose doing its normal gestures. The CD represents us well because we both like music a lot.

On thing I learned that was interesting to me was how the amount of immigrants would go back and forth raising and dropping. I always thought that the immigrants stayed in America after settling in.
Some obvious things were when I noticed times in history when America went through different struggles were the same times when the immigrants began to leave.
I think that in the next two decades more immigrants may come to America but i dont think that many will be leaving. America continues to offer more and many problems are on the verge of being solved.
We decided to make our presentation the way it is because we wanted it to be interesting, eye-catching, and straight to the point.
The first challenge was really understanding the project, then we all had to decide on a way in which we would present out information.

Humanities Portfolio 2012 (Ananda Knight)

Posted by Ananda Knight in English 2 - Block on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 1:52 pm

This year when I walked into my English class I didn’t know what to expect. I thought that I would be reading lots of books, taking quizzes and writing essays. As the year went by my expectation were proven wrong who would of thought that part of my English/history grade would have anything to do with dancing, or visiting a prison. Throughout the year we have been through quite a journey. Not only did my English teacher Mr. Block teach us grammar and had us read books, but he got us physically and emotionally involved with our lessons. We had many projects to do in which we were allowed to put a lot of creativity into. For example our final "Passing" Project This project was based on the book “Passing” we were given many choices on how we could complete this project. My group and I decided to draw a picture that told a story. There were no real restrictions on what we could or could not do for our project and that really pushed creativity. “Creativity helps you to accomplish something from your heart and that you have strong feelings about.” (Ananda Knight) This project helped me to look into a story pass the words but look for deeper meanings that not everyone will catch. Another project that I really liked was when we got into our poetry unit we wrote many different poems. One of my favorite poems was my “I was raised by poem.” I felt like I could use that poetry topic to express myself in many different ways. “I was taught by
other peoples mistakes, I was taught by my own mistakes.” That is on of the quotes in my I was raised by poem. My poem reflected of lessons, and things I was brought up on. When Mr. Block told us to write poems I didn’t really think I could do it. I guess I just had to believe in myself. Mr. Block helped me to realize that I was a good writer and that if I put my mind and heart into it I could complete a polished poetry Wiki.

About a week ago we were all surprised as a class when our teacher introduced us to Leah Stein from the Leah Stein Dance Company. We were shown some of her work and were told that we were going to be going out into the streets and perform dance pieces in front of a bunch of people. When I first heard about this I thought What does this have to do with English or History. I am already a dancer so I thought this would be really easy. As the days went by I realized that this was not the kind of dance that I was used to. What I didn’t know is that I was actually learning a lesson through movement I even became closer to my peers you can see more about my experience through my Art in the open reflection. As I write this portfolio I think of many different assignments that I could include. We did so much work that has helped us all to grow. The final two projects I wanted to talk about were for one my play. The play put my through my biggest struggle, but “Challenges push you to try harder.” This was very hard for me because never before had I tried to write a play. I started over three times until I finally came up with a great idea. Our play had to have an connection to the world and it was a really cool experience. Finally my language autobiography this was my first time writing something like this. It was not that hard of an assignment because it was basically about yourself. When writing we always went through the same process of having friends and our teachers read over our work and give us lots of feedback. Mr. Block encouraged us to do so as well. When I finally finished my Language autobiography It was really amazing when I read it out loud I was really proud of my work and that is what matters the most.

Overall this year has affected me in many way. From confusion, understanding, and shed tears I feel like I have learned a lot from my time being in class with Mr. Block and my classmates. Everyday I walked into class Mr. Block always had a new way to challenge our minds and help us accomplish something new. I will never forget my experience and how it has helped me to become a great writer and thinker.

Ananda Language Autobiography

Posted by Ananda Knight in English 2 - Block on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 8:23 am

When starting this project i thought it would be hard to wright. As Mr. Block began explaining to us more the information about the project it begin to make more since. We also watched a documentary on different people and how they feel about others languages and accents. It was cool to hear how outsiders felt about the language i spoke. we also read many stories about different people and the things they went through coping with there languages. to successfully complete this project i had to think about the way i speak to my family, friends, teachers and others.

From the very moment you were born you began to learn your language. that first voice you hear begins to click in your head. For me when I was brought into this world i was brought into what some would call an standard English family. Of course there is a time when things change for everyone. As i began to meet new people and other family members from different parts of the World, my language would change up. Yes, i speak English and only English but different types of it, therefore i cant describe a specific language for myself.

Some people in my family say i have the personality of an old person sometimes. Now if you happen to be one of my friends reading this you would probably not think this at all. When it comes to my family we are very small and close nite leaving only a small portion of younger kids, me, my cousin and my niece. soon i wont be in that catgorey because of my age. Anyway I spend a lot of time, sometimes with my grandparents. The more i am around them the more there sayings rub off on me. I start to act and talk just like them. The difference with this is that it never last long once im not around them i stop talking that way, its not something i prefer but it happens.

When Im with my mom I try to talk a little proper. Only a little. My mom is a little up to date with slang but when i start to speak with slang a lot she does not always know what i am saying so i stop, and go back to talking proper. Mainly because i dot feel like explainging to her what these different sayings actually mean. Also, since in my home there is only my mom and i living there so the two of us have sayings or words that we make up for fun. When other people come around they may not know what we are talking about. A lot of the things that we say may be something silly but that’s how we make things in this house interesting. Also i talk the same way with my teachers.

When i usually go on vacation down south to visit my family I stay for at least two weeks. As they talk in their southern accents i began to pick up on it as well. I pick up on it even more when im with the kids that are around my age. One day while i was hanging with my cousins we were in the backyard playing on the swing set, my cousin broke it because she was to big. We all got scared thinking we would get in trouble this had only been my third day there we all started to yell at each other there accents began to become stronger and stronger. The more they talked the more i started to sound just like them. There accents had rubbed off on me so much just from that day and we started to sound alike the rest of the time while i was there.

I feel like most of the time when i am talking I talk the way i talk with my friends. Also most of the time i am with my friends and that might be why. When talking to my friends we all use a straight up slang dialect there are times when someone may have to stop us and ask what something we say means. Also in all honesty when talking to my friends we use profanity. When my friends and I talk to each other it may seem like we talk as if we don’t respect each other.

This is called code switching. I think code switching matters because it shows how society changes us with little things like the way we talk. Sometimes we don’t even notice it. I think code switching shows that no one is really comfortable with themselves or feel like they have to change the way they are for certain people, and society should not make people feel like that.

Here is an example of how I would talk to friends compared to my mom.

Friends- Heyyy Gurl.!

Me- ayeee wassup

Friend – nuffin much chillen wat chu bout to get yourself into chick?

Me- I don’t even know child lol bout to get on twitter or somethin and hit up some peoples, imma catch you later tho.

Friend – ard peace

This is how I would talk to my mom in the same convo

Mom- Hi ananda

Me- Hey mom how are you?

Mom – im fine what are you about to do

Me- I might get on the computer not really sure. I might call up some friends. I will see you in a bit

Mom ok bye Ananda

When it comes to me I mostly code switch from how I talk to my mom to how I talk to my friends. You can find out a lot about me also when you hear how I talk to my friends. Everyone uses code switching and may not even know it. I believe code switching can teach you a lot about yourself.

Descriptive essay Try Something New For Once..

Posted by Ananda Knight in English 2 - Block on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 1:50 pm

Since I was young I never really liked trying anything new. I always thought that if I tried something new I wouldn’t like it. Whether it was trying a new food, going to a new place, or even meeting new people.  So what is it that made me go to Kirkwood Camp? I guess I have pretty persuasive friends. They had constantly been on my back and telling me how I should go to Camp Kirkwood with them. Well first let me tell you about Kirkwood. Well, at least this is how I viewed it before I actually got the courage to go. Kirkwood is a big camp out in the Poconos. Yeah I know what your thinking, the Poconos is pretty. Well this camp was located in the woods. When I think of the woods I cant help but think about bugs, trees, mud, spider webs and of course more bugs. Maybe even some type of animal. I had no intentions on going anywhere that I felt those things would be. Eventually I decided to just try something new, It had been a rainy day I couldn’t stop thinking about how much I wanted to turn around, get in the car and just go home. Overnight camp just wasn’t for me. I despised the thought of sleeping on cold barren ground, and what would I do with my hair. My mom said to me “Stop being such a prissy girly girl” And try something new for once. When the bus arrived every one threw their bags onto the back of the bus and rushed to find a seat. I straggled behind and turned to my mom she gave me a disappointed look so I smiled a fake type of smile and got onto the bus to sit next to my best friend. The bus pulled off The other campers sung songs and I sat their acting stubborn until I heard them start out one of my favorite group songs “Father Abraham” I joined along with them we all got so into the song disregarding the bus driver constantly telling us to sit down. I didn’t even notice the long ride and before I knew it we were pulling into the camp.  It didn’t look as bad as I thought. I had visioned a bunch of trees, no free space to play around, weird smells, and I didn’t think the type of people I usually hang with would be there. I stepped off the bus and I could feel the grass in between my toes. I could smell the fresh air. I never smelt air like this before I immediately began to get comfortable with the environment. The first thing we did was go to lunch I love food so I was happy to hear that. I walked into the crowded lunchroom and I saw so many kids of every race I love being in diverse environments. Before we ate we sung a prayer and ha cool hand motions to go along with the song. We all sat down together and began to sink our teeth into scrumptious sausage pizza. That’s when the weird thing happened I reached for the pitcher of juice and everyone stopped what they were doing and stared at me as if I was something they never seen before. I said What They told me that I couldn’t have juice yet and that I had to drink water first. Ok I thought waters not a problem. I poured my water and started to drink until I noticed the unusual egg smell. I jerked my head back looking at it saying, what is this? I held my nose and downed the drink so I wouldn’t have to think about it. After lunch we headed to our cabins. I have to admit they were really cool each cabin had 8 beds and all of my friends and I shared a cabin it was the best. After getting settled into our cabin we went into our first activity. The cool thing was that my first activity was archery. I had never done it before so I was very excited they handed me the bow and my mind went blank. I had no idea what I was doing and then one of the councelors helped me out. The bow was very tight and it took all my strength I strained as I pulled it back then I was ready to let go. I shot the perfect bow and I had never been so amazed like this ever before. Everyone else went then It was time for praise n worship This was when I started to like the camp even more we sung a bunch of songs to the to of our lungs until they began to hurt for so long. I didn’t even notice my feet swelling up form all the walking and standing up I had done that day. The day still wasen’t over we did so much stuff I can’t even remember. We played lots of games and not one person there acted like they didn’t want to participate everyone played together and had an awesome time. After dinner it was time to call it a night we all rushed to our cabins and took showers washing all of the fun from the day off. Ten O-clock had been our bedtime but we never feel asleep we played tag with our flash lights disregarding how many times our councilor said we had to go to sleep because we wake up early. The next morning we all woke with bags under our eyes. We shook them right off after breakfast when we got right back into all our activities. Only today was swim test day. The place we swam was a nasty looking greenish colored pond. When standing in it you could feel seaweed and baby tadpoles graze your skin and it sent chills down your back because of the slimy unpleasant feeling. Pond time happened to be very fun as well everyone in the camp got to hang together and do what ever we wanted to do. The juniors, Jr. High, And senior high groups all got along very well. Our options for pond time was to swim, play volleyball, play in the sand, go fishing, try out canoeing, do arts and crafts or just chill out. It didn’t take me long to realize how much fun I had been having and it was only the second day of camp. Just imagine how awesome the next five days would be. Our group leaders had so many things planned for us to do and not a moment while I was there had I been bored. It started to become one of the best experiences of my life. As the days went by I couldn’t help but wish that time would just stop I didn’t want to go home not one bit. On my last night there we hiked up to real high ground and decided to sleep there for the night it was cold and my lip quivered but sleeping under the stars was so beautiful. When I woke up to my surprise not one bug was near me not even one of those pesky mosquitoes. I guess that is because I showered myself in bug repellant. The hike down was very steep and I was almost sure that I would fall. When we got back to our cabins they said we should pack up before the big dance and talent show we had in store for us. So that’s what we did. Us girls had suitcases stuffed with clothes so closing them was a problem. We had to jump up and down on them and sit on them putting all of our weight onto it. After Breakfast the next day It was time to leave we waited on the camp porch for our buses to arrive. When I got on the bus and it began to pull away we passed a sign saying Goodbye thank you for coming to Kirkwood a tear slid down my warm cheek. Then I finished reading it and it said see you next summer and that little line made me smile inside. Kirkwood changed me that summer it became a part of me that I will never forget and I regret ever having second thoughts about going.

Ananda's Drawing

Posted by Ananda Knight in Art - 9 - Hull on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 12:44 pm

  We started out our first art class learning perspective drawing. First we learned about the vanishing point, and how to make out pictures look like they are popping out at you. We started out by drawing squares on our paper, than we drew horizontal lines from each on the squares corners to the vanishing point. The next day we went through the same process and tried spelling our names in the squares. It was a little difficult but if you take your time it came out really nice. Than we did a room drawing all together. Everything had to look realistic so we used perspective to do that as well. Lastly we did a drawing of one wall in the room. We had about 5 class periods to do so. We had to incorporate the calls ceiling and floor into the picture this is what I got done.

Weather Conditions!

In Spanish we use Hace and Esta’ meaning it’s to say the weather.

Hace is used when saying how it feels or looks. Esta’ is used when telling what the weather is doing. These are the ways to say different weather conditions.

Frio= cold

Calor=hot

Viento=windy

Sol=sunny

Fresco=cool

Those are the terms in which hace should  be placed in front of

Example- hace frio=its cold

Nevando= snowing

Lloviendo= raining

Nublado=cloudy

Those terms should be said with esta.

For example Esta’ lloviendo

Manners

Posted by Ananda Knight on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 12:45 pm
Courtesy phrases! (Good manners)

 Just like in English we have manners and different ways to say them in espanol.  Gracias is used mostly and it simply means thanks. You may also say Muchas gracias witch means thanks a lot or Mil gracias witch means thanks a million. Those are all good ways to say thank you. Here are some ways to say you’re welcome. De nada, Por nada and no hay de que.  And that is how you can say thank you and your welcome. When it comes to saying Excuse me there are different ways of saying it based on the situation. The three ways of saying excuse me  are Con permiso, Disculpe, and Perdon. Con permiso should be used when someone is standing in your way. Disculpe should be used when you are trying to get someones attention. Lastly Perdon should be used if you accidentally bump into someone. Por favor is appropriate to use when saying please.

Real life application

An real life application for courtesy phrases is one iff someone does something for you or if you are in a crowded place or mabey even on the bus This is all used in everday life.

We will show how to use each of these phrases in our video explaning when what is appropriate.

disculpe
PERDONE

Y TU vs Y Usted

Posted by Ananda Knight on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 12:13 pm

Y tu vs Y usted

 The difference between Y tu and Y Usted is that one is formal while the other is informal. Y tu is informal and Y Usted id formal. In Spanish we change the way we speak when talking to someone we have respect for and are an adult rather than our friends. When talking to an adult we use formal language when talking to our friends we use informal language.  They both still mean the same thing.

Real life application

A student is talking to a student and than an adult.
