"World's Largest Capstone"

Posted by Jeremiah Cunningham in Capstone - Hirschfield - Wed on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 4:08 pm

For my capstone, I chose to use one of SLA's Core values and Collaborated with Jaazaniah Hayes, and Naihema Powell in order to put together a showcase that incorporated some of SLA's different capstones into one big show. Jaazaniah and I worked together to put together a rap cypher to be apart of the show. Before we did anything, we researched how exactly to put together a show, and what things we needed. After several hours of fundraising and planning, we had enough to start actually putting the show together. We had auditions for the modeling of Clothing lines, we got some of SLA’s strongest artists to perform in the cypher, and we got some people that were in the digital photography/video class to work the lighting and camera work. We held practices/rehearsals every tuesday and thursday at our school, and on the week of the show, we had practice every day leading up to the show’s date. At the end of it, we had a great show, and lots of people came out and supported our capstone. It wasn’t easy, we barely got any sleep at night but it was all worth it in the end.

Here is some footage from the Cypher.

When i first looked at this source I saw I immediately grabbed it. For my capstone im going to need some get rich quick schemes in order to cover my expenses. I have to pay for the entertainment, and more importantly we are going to have to pay for the venue. I understand that we are going to get a lot money back from selling tickets but we need to raise money for coverage. Especially since we are going to be coming out of pocket for a lot of it.

http://npengage.com/nonprofit-fundraising/boost-donor-acquisition-online-fundraising/

This was similar to the one i did above. But it focused more on online fundraising. I thought that it would bring more money in if we fundraise online. I have seen tons of people fundraise online for anything. Mostly i have seen funerals. But it would make our job a lot easier if we did it online. That way its mobile and less messy.

http://www.musicbizacademy.com/articles/showcase.htm

This source was mainly opinionated. I didn’t know anything about running a showcase or even what it takes to do one. This source focused more on the creativity level that you have to have in order for it to be a success.  It talked about themes that you need to have, and also recruiting a certain attraction in order to get more audience. They also talked about ways to sell more tickets.

http://npengage.com/nonprofit-marketing/3-easy-ways-sell-more-tickets/

This source was really helpful. Me doing a showcase, we are going have to sell tickets in order to pay a portion of the venue’s expense. This source taught me new ways on selling tickets. They said we should give something else while we are selling tickets. Like telling the people we are selling to that we will give them something for free if we sell tickets. so basically give something or getting something.

Thomas

I had a long conversation with thomas. Last year he did a showcase to raise money for the DC trip. He told me all the ins and outs of holding and hosting your own show. One of te main problems that he had from last year was false advertisement. He had promised a specific person to be there. The person was very popular in philadelphia and the person flaked out and didn’t want to do the appearance. He overcame it with the backup plan. He had booked more than one popular artists to show up.

Kenisha Woods

My Sophomore year, Kenisha had did a fashion show/ rap show. I wanted to talk to her about how she incorporated the two together. Afterall they are totally different topics and i was there at her show and she did an excellent job making the transitions.  She told me that you don’t want to have to much of the same thing going on continuously. If you have 5 back to back showcases of clothing and then 1 rap performance, they are going to get tired out, especially if you have someone that they are waiting to see.

http://smallbusiness.chron.com/code-business-conduct-2732.html

In this article, the author wrote about conducting yourself in a business conduct. When you are trying to make a deal with someone it is very important that you conduct yourself in a very professional matter. Someone isn’t going to let you use their facility if they see that you are being goofy and you aren’t mature. Your age is already a minus, but if they see that you seem to be responsible, and mature you are sure to get what you want.

My dad

I talked to my dad. He currently works at the wells fargo center and he knows a lot about how they work their operations over there. Wells fargo center has a plethora of events going on. They have to move equipment almost everyday. They have to set up the floor for the sixers games, in the mixture of having concerts and wrestling matches there. He told me that im going to have to get together an event staff. Maybe ten trustworthy and hardworking people to help setup. And i need to know that i will have to either pay them or feed them .

Michael Jackson’s this is it

Everyone has either heard about or has seen the documentary of the michael jackson concert rehearsals. You can see how sometimes he would get frustrated because things weren’t going the way they were supposed to. It took a lot of rehearsing and time and effort in order to get things the way that he wanted them to be. He had a couple different performers and dancers. He had a lot of money also put into his show. This is just a little motivation to how much hard work and dedication im going to have to have in order to pull this off.

Food Recipe - Cunningham

Posted by Jeremiah Cunningham in Science and Society - Best - Y on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 8:12 pm

Ingredients:

  • Bell Peppers
  • Cheese
  • Ground beef
  • pot
  • pan
  • knives
  1. Boil the peppers in boiling water.
  2. While the bell peppers are in the pot of boiling water, you need to fry the ground beef
  3. Make sure to season the ground beef first with your desired seasoning
  4. After the beel peppers are done, take each of them and cut the top part.
  5. after that is done, the ground beef should be almost done. Make sure it is brown and not pink
  6. Add cheese on the ground beef and let it sit until it melts
  7. Turn off the pan and insert the desired amount of ground beef into each bell pepper

This is actually quite healthy for you. It is after all eaten inside of a bell pepper. Now as far as how healthy the pepper is. It depends on what kind of pepper it is, and where you get it from. For instance, a save a lot pepper, isn’t going to be as fresh as a pepper that is from trader joes or produce junction. Then it’s all about storage. If you keep fresh and in a plastic bag inside a refrigerator, it will maintain it fresh status. As opposed to having it sit out on the table for a couple days. It would cost more the fresher it is.

The meat is also fresh by carrier. If you get it from like a pathmark or a acme, its not gonna be as fresh as if you went down to the italian market and got it fresh. It would cost more but you do pay for what you buy. They say that red meat isn’t good for you, but in my Foods Rules slide, the rule that i made was that you shouldn’t eat things that don't eat healthy themselves.

I have actually learned a lot this quarter. I learned about how healthy food actually is and the different between processed, and organic food choices. Before we came into this unit, i didn’t know as much as i know now about food. It was interesting getting to know the real reason why organic food is more expensive than the trans fat, processed food. I also did not know what organic food was made out of. When I thought of organic food, I also thought immediately that it was healthier and that was why it cost more. Now i know that it actually takes more to make food organic. The most interesting part about this unit was the TED talk. It was interesting to see him talk about food and how it connects to our society so well. I liked especially when he talked about how gross the school lunches were and how the lunch cooks weren’t at blame. Everything he said was true, they try to do so much with so little and cheap food in the kitchen. Moving forward from this unit, I will think a lot about the food that I buy and the food that I eat. Especially after seeing the TED talk and looking at numerous BMI charts.

Trife life is of lavish Book review

Posted by Jeremiah Cunningham in English 3 - Rami - E on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 7:52 pm

Everyone has their own preference in books.  I myself like the books that i can relate and have a special connection with. I like the books where there is drama from beginning to end. “Trife life of lavish” by Deja King is a perfect example of that. This book is about a woman named Teresa who is running from her past and meets new friends along the way.  She was living with, and dating the love of her life. He was a man whore, he literally slept with everything that walked. She put up with it for two reasons, she was in love, and he took care of her and her daughter Genevieve. One day she walked on him having sex with an unknown woman. She rages with frustration and curses him and the woman out. Her and the man gets into a heated argument that leads the man hitting teresa. After she recovers, she picks up a lamp and hits him in the head three times. He dies. She takes all the money she knows he has, and her things  and flees off.  With her on this crazy ride is her daughter that can’t let go of her mother’s past.

Deja King does an excellent job using dialogue and third person point of view to show how the mother and the daughter feel about the mother’s past.  From beginning to end this book will have you on the edge of your seat wondering what’s going to happen next.

The style of writing she has makes you really want to open your eyes to the world, She writes about real life situations and altercations in a fiction state. She actually has a  whole series of books. They are called the King Productions. Books in her series are entitled, B*tch parts 1,2,3,4 and 5, Stackin Paper parts 1 and 2, Dirty little Secrets, Hooker to housewife, Superstar, Trife life to lavish parts 1 and 2, Ride wit me, and Princess paper. After reading Trife life to lavish part 1, I would definitely consider reading those other books. It’s something about Deja King that I can actually sit there and read her books and not want to stop.

The reason why I liked this book is because something similar happened to my mother. My biological father disrespected my mother sort of in the way Teresa’s husband did to her. Even though I was only two years old, I knew what was going on. My mother even tells me different scenarios of them getting into arguments and fights about the certain things. This book sparked my interest the most because as I was reading the back summary, I could make a personal connection with what the book was about. I love books like that. When you pull me in by telling me a summary of the book and in my mind I say, “Hey, something similar happened to me”, 99 percent of the time I’m going to read it.

Deja King was born in Toledo, Ohio but was raised in California, New Jersey, Maryland, and North California. She went to North California Central College and majored in Journalism. Her inspiration of writing was gained from her mother. She said that Deja had a special talent that she should embrace. Ever since then Deja has been righting books and climbing the charts as a best selling author. Her book “Trife life 2 Lavish” was released February 14th, 2009.

If I was a book critic I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a book with a lot of drama as soon as you jump into the book. This isn’t your ordinary book. This book has lots of drama, flashbacks, and jumps right into the plot almost instantly. And the language is so colorful. If you like confrontation this book is for you. Deja King’s use of dialogue in this story is very choosy. She gives you that mature audience language with a little bit of extra intellectual dialect to add on top of it. This book in my mind deserves a 8 out of 10. I could make a life connection, it used lots of dialogue, it had little bits and pieces of foreshadowing, figurative language, and suspense. The author also did an excellent job describing how each character was feeling at different points of the story. This book had you at the edge of your seats thinking and wondering what the characters are going to do next. So if you like a Action packed, drama, with lots of colorful dialect from a third person point of view, “Trife life 2 lavish” is the perfect book.

Humanities Final Portfolio 2013 Cunningham

Posted by Jeremiah Cunningham in English 2 - Block on Monday, June 10, 2013 at 1:32 pm

This year in history I learned a lot , Whether or not it was about crossing boundaries, or freedom and the meaning of being free, this years history class has taught me a lot. There were some ups and there were definitely some downs but at the end I learned. And I got to learn from and meet some new people along the way. Throughout the course of the year we did a lot of things that helped me learn that particular unit. We had mock trials, plays, or interpretive dances, Mr Block sure had his way of getting his point across to teach us. This is just a quick taste of what this school year of 10th english and history was like at SLA.

1. One of our very first big assignments of the school year was a descriptive essay. The assignment was to write an essay and to make sure that it unfolds, had lots of detail and description, had dialogue, and focused on one or more particular moments in time. I wrote mine about the time that my brother and I got into a fight and were jumped by a group of adults while at a park. Here you will find a link in which you can read this essay in further detail.

https://docs.google.com/a/scienceleadership.org/document/d/1pOoVN2pTZBcgcS95kTLVkZDhxdHHK6-V62oPONmKWQI/edit

2. The second assignment that i am going to put on my blog is my language essay. This of course was apart of the language unit. This Unit taught me all about language and the different types of languages where it be a native speaking language, or your everyday slang, or a speech impediment. I touch based on all of those aspects in my language autobiography. Here is two links. One of the exact essay, and another of my video on languages.

3. My third piece of work that i will be showing is actually from history. This is from the renaissance unit. We had to pick a artist who was around from the renaissance times and research them. You had to get six paintings, and talk about why you think the artist drew or painted it, and talk about how the colors or nature of the artwork reflected on the mood or the harlem renaissance. Here is the link to my Work in Vincent Van Gogh.

https://docs.google.com/a/scienceleadership.org/document/d/1CR1qmXliU4_k9FQ97E-rOED4U9eOpSFPr-SHge-z2oA/edit

4. My fourth memory of this magnificent year is when we were in our freedom unit. We were learning on how different tribes and groups of people gained freedom with using non violent and violent tactics.  “In my opinion, Violence and nonviolence are both powerful in their own sense. For Instance, Non violence can be powerful over violence if you want to get something done. In a good sense if you want to accomplish an objective non violence would be the way to go. Violence affects all people and can possibly end lives. Non violence can win you lots of sympathy, and sends a stronger message.”

I'm Different

Posted by Jeremiah Cunningham in English 2 - Block on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 7:33 pm
At my school, There’s a lot of inside information that only certain groups or cliques know about. And we talk about these things so much that it starts to become an everyday vocabulary word. Whether if it’s 2 strokes, or greenfield wall everyone will not know what we are talking about. It gets so bad that people start to believe that was our everyday word, or they started to get curious. “Haneef you going to go to art and paint 2 strokes?” “ Jaaz where ya kids at” “Ard you dickeating youngbull” That is our normal everyday conversation between me and my friends. Sometimes its hard to switch from “informal” teenagers, into the “formal professional” teenagers that we are supposed to be. Sometimes its hard to be a teenager in this world. Especially in the city of brotherly love. People nowadays judge you by so many things. I remember being in school and learning how in the 20th century people were judged by the color of their skin. I remember the visuals of the the segregated signs. Now people are so full of themselves, they judge you for the dumbest things. I hate it the most when people make fun of the way people talk. Its not their fault they talk the way they do. I feel as though people should be able to have some type of downs in their life without being criticized. My friend Pierce catched hell everyday because of the way he talks. He has a thing that people call a lisps. It causes him to talk unlike others. Sometimes it’s hard to understand what he is saying. It burns me inside to hear people talk about my friend because I know how it feels to be different. Me personally, when it comes to language, I have two different languages. I have formal english, and informal english. Or as people like to call it, slang. When I’m around my friends, I use my informal english. I curse, use slang terminology, everything. When I’m around my family it a little bit of both. I have to be somewhat formal, and somewhat informal. Everyone has that type of way they communicate with their family. My family is full of kids, young adults, and fresh adults. Meaning that almost everyone in my family except for the seniors or parents, know today’s terms. When I’m around teachers, I try to be as formal as possible. I try so hard that sometimes it sounds like I am trying to be sarcastic. When I am talking to anyway of a formal standard I like to add this as i like to call it “ Educated sophisticated voice”. That helps the person i’m talking to know that i have some type of common sense, i know what i’m talking about, and know how to talk to people. I like to make a first impression on people, and when you are talking to someone, they judge the way you talk. They do this because people don’t like to associate themselves with people that don’t know how to talk to people the proper way. Either that or they are just ignorant and want to save themselves the headache of trying to know your language, or take the time to understand and listen to what you are saying. Today these days are just so full of themselves and think that they are the biggest thing that they forget that there are people out there that have just the same amount of potential that they have but won’t give them the acknowledgement or the time to express the potential. And all this because of the way a person talks. All this because a person can’t pronounce their R’s the right way. All this because a person are not speaking in a formal way that THEY are speaking in. All this because they aren’t talking like them. Everyone is different. Everyone comes in different races, shapes, and sizes. Everyone is unique in their own way. That’s just the way we were born and raised. Even writing this essay gets me a little upset at the world and the people in it. As i sit on the el in the morning and I see how people are criticized because of how they talk. Someone can say “hello” and an ignorant, egotistical human person has the audacity to laugh. What gives you the right? Who the hell are you to give someone a review on there life and how they talk. Especially when you know damn well you have problems on your on. People make me so sick. People want them to be like them but fail to realize that THERE IS ONLY ONE YOU!

You and The World Blog #3- Jeremiah Cunningham

Posted by Jeremiah Cunningham in English 1 - Dunn on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 12:00 am
In my previous blogs I talked a lot about STDs and what goes on in the world. This blog post is a little different. This is a “Post for change”. I will be encouraging the youth and adults to stand up against STDs and the billion of cases in the world today. This topic is strongly considered in medical facilities and a little outside in the streets. Us as people who sit bak and watch cases like this get larger by the day, can stand up and make a stand. Whether it’s going to schools and talking to kids, or just donating to Medical Facilities in order to support studies on finding a cure. WE MUST DO SOMETHING!

There is a lot being done as far as STD awareness goes. There is an annual celebration in April called “STD awareness month” which is dedicated to find a cure for the diseases and educating the youth and raising money for awareness. It also calls attention to the impact of STDs and promote testing. Adolescents and Teenagers are mainly vulnerable to STDs. That is why its important get out the message that Safe sex is much recommended and widely expressed by doctors and healthcare providers. Ages 15-24 are responsible for nearly half of the world cases of STDs.

Family doctors are supposed to keep up with children’s health. When teens go to the doctor’s, the doctor asks the child are they participating in any type of sexual activity. It is not a guarentee that the child is telling the truth or not when they say no. That’s why the doctor goes on and tells them about the dangers of unprotected sex, and STDs. Although doctors give the child a little 3-5 minute pep talk, it doesn’t work. That is why my Post for change is to try and find a way to get that message out there either by video, Public Service announcement, or even making a pamphlet on the dangers of STDs.

My post for change is that I’m going to make a PSA (Public Service Announcement). This will cover mine and others’ views on STDs and how they affect our world. I will tell what STDs do to you and how we can make a stand. What I’m trying to do is get out and make people care about a subject that I feel strongly about. I was always scared to have intercourse when I heard of these diseases. Now that I have, I am terrified. That was the biggest mistake of my life. I just want to get out to the public the danger of such diseases and if you can PLEASE keep it in your pants. I would like to thank Ms.Dunn, Tyanna Pleasant, Keyaira doughty, and Chaveliz  for helping me with their views on STDs. I also would like to thank my father for telling me the dangers of STDs and how they affect.

STDs in the teenage world #2

Posted by Jeremiah Cunningham in English 1 - Dunn on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 11:17 pm

STDs are one of the most dangerous diseases to have. It makes you very sick, and you won’t be able to grow up to have babies because you won’t be able to have intimacy because of the risk of giving the disease to other people. Especially if you are a teenager. One in every four female in the U.S has a case of STD. Between the years of 1997 and 2011 the percentage of teens with STDs jumped a total of 53 percent.

Screen Shot 2012-05-20 at 11.14.30 PM

There is a theory for the reason as to why teens get STDs. Children go through puberty earlier because of  better nutrition, and the immature cervix of teenage girls is especially vulnerable to infection. Psychology: Kids with raging hormones think they are invincible and take stupid risks. Sociology: Children who grow up in the inner city take risks because they can’t imagine a decent future. Technology: Better screening detects more STDs. Poverty: A lack of access to medical care means those infected won’t know they have an STD and will continue to spread it. Culture: Casual high school hookups have replaced the romance of dating. The media: Kids are being sexualized in ads, movies and on the Internet. All these reasons can be a possible factor as to why kids get STDs. Or maybe it’s that they weren’t raised with the mindset that we were given by our parents not to have sex and to use a condom when we do.

Personally, when it comes to this topic i blame the parents. It’s supposed to be their job to tell the child to job to tell the child about the dangers of STDs and how they can be prevented. My theory is that the parents of these teenage children with the disease is that they don’t care, or they too have experience with more than one partner. i believe that if parents warn their children and teach them the rights from wrongs in intimacy, the teenage rate of STDs would be a lot shorter.

images-1

As I go about with my research i still wonder lots of things about teenage STDs. Why are teenagers more subject to getting affected. How was this disease first discovered, and how is it best treated? These thoughts are going all through my head and want to be answered.

STDs in the Teen World

Posted by Jeremiah Cunningham in English 1 - Dunn on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 2:53 pm
My name is Jeremiah Cunningham and I am doing a blog about STDs in the teen world. In the world today, Teens have many struggles. From school, home, relationship problems, and responsibility issues. One topic of teenage life that tops all of these is Sexually transmitted diseases (STD). Out of the 12 million cases of STDs, 3 million of those cases are teen cases. That is 25 percent. And when it comes to STDs, America really doesn’t do a good job stressing out the factors, consequences, and how-nots of STDs. This is a main factor as to why teens catch these diseases.

STDs can affect anyone who is sexually active. The true definition of a STD is a disease or infection that is spread from person to person by sexual intercourse. Anyone can get it no matter gender, race, or income; no one is immune to the disease. Unfortunately, teens are more at risk to catch the disease. Some kids weren’t taught about the risks of sexual intercourse and how to protect themselves.

This disease is more than just risky. It is also an embarrassment, and a deadly disease. It is a serious health issue. If you don’t get checked out or don’t find out you have one, you can do some serious damage to your body and even lead to death. The younger you are, the greater your chances are to getting an STD.  It is very easy to get one too. First off all, you don’t know what the person you get intimate has. 9 times out of 10 the person doesn’t know they have one as well. You can also develop a STD if you involve in intercourse with numerous people. Sexual isn’t is the only way you can get one. You can also get one by touching a cut of someone that has one.

What made me interested in this topic is because lots of people today are infected with this disease. Everyday someone either gets the infection, or they die from it. I sometimes think what i would do if i were to be infected with this disease. It makes me sad to even think of the young men and women who have to go through this everyday. You can’t have sex, or have a kid. It’s crazy how even having sex with one person can get you infected.

Macbeth BM- Stay Slayin

Posted by Jeremiah Cunningham in English 1 - Dunn on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 2:15 pm
Lyrics

I kill for my crown dawg I kill for my crown... Stay slaying, people tryna get on to me, I kill for my crown

Uh, I'll kill for my crown

Dippin and slippn like Vick on 4th down

He’s down for whatever

His time is now

To kill king Duncan

It’s about to go down

Like keysha Cole,  mac was heavan sent

“Naught had all spent here our desire without consent”

They overcame obstacles climbed em just like a fence

They were invincible, superman clark kent

He thought he was schooling these Boys, Macbeth Master Dean.

Now he lives like “A coward in thine with own esteem”

He was chilling with the jacksons “living the dream”

But quickly realized that reality wasn’t what it seemed

He tries to tell his wife but she Don’t understand

Saying that he should “go get some water and wash this witness from your hands”

Hours on end, macbeth was a little creeped

With Voices Vocalizing “Macbeth has murdered sleep”

Lady mac wanted the “Life” By Any MEANS.

But She accused him of hating the crown that he’s redeemed

Lady had the scoop like grave yard shovel.

Saying “Tis the eye of childhood that feared a painted devil”

But she was a Snake that kept Hissing when talking.

Until one night she was caught slipping, Sleepwalking.

I think the moral of the story is “For one to understand”

“All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this hand”

It was too late she did what she did

She was overwhelmed with the guilt that she hid

She couldn’t hide it anymore

No matter how hard she tried

Her innocence slowly drifted away

Like a 5’Oclock Ocean Tide.

Her ambtion was flawless

 And done with such pride

Maybe that’s reason why she commited suicide.

Jeremiah Cunningham Tech Slide

Posted by Jeremiah Cunningham in Technology - Hull on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 7:59 am
I changed my slide because it was too much going around. i just thought about everything that was on my slide and just came up with the backboard idea. I love basketball and i thought of how when u always hit the backboard the ball goes in. And basically if you hit for the backboard you get what you want. The same with life, when you hit for what you that spot, you will always get your way.

Jeremiah Cunningham's Slide Presentation

Posted by Jeremiah Cunningham in Technology - Hull on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 8:59 pm
Basically, what i did was took a lot of pictures from what i like doing, enjoy watching, and some of my favorite things in life all into one slide. My color scheme is my special one which consists of pictures of my favorite people and celebrities. This project was all about me and my likes. I hope that people get a chance to see my life and get to walk in my shoes. i really dont have words on my slides because i wanted the person looking at it to use context clues in order to see what i am saying.
