Mohamed Marzouk, Capstone 2013

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk in Capstone - Dunda on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 6:41 pm

In-school mentor: Mennoo Rami
Out of school mentor: Connie Hua

For my capstone, I initially struggled to find an idea I'd like and can enjoy doing for an entire year. I wanted something I was passionate about, and I knew that debate was something that I've been passionate about about for a long time. So, I reached out and contacted members of Penn For Youth Debate, an organization that promotes debate in inter-city Philadelphia and holds debate tournaments, debate events, and sends volunteers to other schools. I started volunteering with Middle School kids at Russel Byers Middle School, on 19th and Arch. Partnering up with my outside of school mentor, Connie Hua, we volunteered on alternate days and enhanced the debate skills of the students by coaching them using a lot of different avenues of coaching. Coaching such as: speaking drills, reading drills, flowing skills, cross fire skills, and etc. I've been volunteering since October and Russel Byers has excelled the most this season, winning many, many awards.

Attached are photos of Russel Byers school and winning awards at PFYD Voice's Tournament at the University of Pennsylvania on March 16, 2013. Also, there is a link to the google doc that contains my lesson plans and my annotated bibliography.

General Pinochet

Hola!

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk in Spanish 4 - Manuel on Monday, February 25, 2013 at 9:47 am

Mohamed Marzouk's Cous cous

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk in Science and Society - Best on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 9:21 pm
Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Cous Cous
  • Chick peas
  • 2 2/3 cups of water
  • 2 2/3 tea spoons of salt
  • your choice of spice

Materials:

  • Actual Cous Cous
  • Pot
  • Big Spoon
  • Microwave to speed the heating of the cous cous
  • Another pot to stir the sauce for the cous cous
  • Plates to eat the cous cous!

Steps:

  • Open cous cous from container, put it in pot
  • Add water, salt and mix the cous cous
  • Although some people prefor to heat the cous cous using an oven, I've found simply using a microwave is sufficent.
  • Use the other pot to start making the sauce for the cous cous
  • Either use already made sauce and add more spices or ground up your own tomatoes.
  • Combine both the sauce that has the meat in it and the couse cous
  • Eat up!

Analysis:

Cous Cous is a food that is very popular in the Mediterranian. The Mediterranian includes Countries such as: Italy, Spain, Tunisia, Morrocco. These places eat cous cous a lot. Cous cous has become a trend around the world too. Especially in places like the Middle East, North America and South America. The United States has particularly adopted Cous Cous as a favorite. It travels over 2,000 miles to get here- the natural kind, that is. Some cous cous is getting picked here, caushing it to have more pesticides in them.

There are many, many variations of making Cous Cous but the one I explained above is the my Mom's recipe she's been using for many, many years and it's customed to eat it like that where I'm from. Cous Cous can be a very healthy food- it doesn't rival brown rice when trying to eat healthy but is still a healthy alternative to pasta. You can cook Cous Cous with lots of vegetables and healthy lean meats. Depending on how much you buy, this could be a very cheap meal when looking at this bare bones. Most of the food here is not processed because usually you can pick the vegetables that you want to cook with or the kind of meet. Also, when looking at the container of cous cous the nutrients are very healthy. Though cholesterol is a bit high, there is low sugar, fat, but again, high on carbohydrates.

The money goes towards farmers because they help dig up the cous cous because it is a grain. Cous Cous is usually picked without much pollution or immorality like you see the meat companies do here in the States. Since cous cous is in such a high demand, people are hired more to make them across the pond, so I feel as though politically, the people win. Also, the quality of food is better so people will enjoy cous cous more and the demand will keep growing. Cous cous could be become one of the most sought-after foods in the world.

This recipe has been in my family for many generations and lives on. My mom makes really great cous cous and I don't think the other types I've tried really rivals the kid she makes. The times i've gone to tunisa, I've tasted amazing cous cous and wish to travel to Italy or Spain to  try some more.

Personal Reflection:
I think there are lots of problems with our food system. I don’t think it necessarily comes from the food makers or the people who eat the food, but rather our economic status. I believe that obesity comes from socioeconomic status rather than what people put in their mouth. I know that sounds absurd at first, but people need to eat, right? When you’re poor and need to feed your family food to keep them from not starving, anything really matters; eating healthy is not the one concern. Going to the dollar menu at Mcdonalds and spending 10 dollars to fill your family up or just getting heat-up dinners that are high in transfat and generally bad for you is something that you need. I feel like if we want to make a difference now, we need our Government to strive and implement programs where people who are in need can receive the food they need, but also getting healthy food in the process. When the doctor from Camden came told us about his work and finding, he made a valid point about the correlation of cheap food and no money. I feel like I can accurately base my opinion on credible research like that. I feel like what I can do is try to make aware stores like Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods that do have some healthy but cheap alternatives to people so they can eat and be healthy

La Vida- Mohamed Marzouk

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 9:38 am
Mohamed Marzouk- La Vida

Media Influence

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 1:08 pm
1. The media has a lot of influence on our perceptions. They want us to tune in, so they can sell their ads to the millions of people that are watching. The way people write about our candidates and preserve them. They make can either make them out to be bad or good. Some of the candidates to it themselves, publishing many ads against each other to bolster polling numbed and ultimately win their respective campaigns.

2. The media can have a great affect on the media. We shouldn't let them have any impacts because at the end of the day, you're going to be making the choice on who to vote for and nothing should manipulate your choice on who you want to vote for.

3. Well, I've seen an article on Fox News reporting that Barack Obama was married to a Pakistani Man. So I think the media is biased and shouldn't be. I feel like they're only in this for the money and not the American people. There are only a few news places that actually broadcast the news to broadcast it, not to favor someone over another.

Blog Post 2- Room For Debate

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk in American Government - Herman on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 8:45 pm

After reading the editorials I agree that we do not need the PATRIOT Act anymore. The PATRIOT Act has been in the spotlight of many International debates. The PATRIOT Act was something to make the American people feel safer, more secure in times of need. Now, The PATRIOT Act is just something there that is completely unnecessary in most senses.

In the right, liberal place we are in now, most people are already against the PATRIOT Act because many believe it is a violation of privacy. I, too believe that, but I also feel as though we never needed the PATRIOT Act in the first place. In class, we discussed things like the NSA, CIA, and FBI. Those are agencies that are here to gather intelligence and try to prevent things from happening like 9/11. Can we seriously say that there was no surveillance before 9/11 or the PATRIOT Act? The United States already measures in place that could of stopped 9/11, strong measures but they didn't work, not because of the lack of surveillance but by the lack of execution in our part.

Many liberates have been taken away since the PATRIOT Act has been in play. Once could even argue that the PATRIOT Act hurts democratic ideals in a sense. Democratic ideals are such things as: self-entrepreneur, self-liberties and most importantly, patriotism. You might be wondering, why patriotism, isn't the PATRIOT Act supposed to be something that makes you want to be an American? Well, for must it us, but for others who don't have blond hair, blue eyes it could be something that deteriorates someone's moral in this Country. After 9/11, muslims became the face of terrorism. Many muslims feared for their lives. Sikhs had been targeted most because of their appearance. 9/11 and the Patriot Act directly effected 2 religions. Thus, hurting their patriotism towards this country.

As the PATRIOT Act hurts democratic ideals, they can also strengthen them. Egalitarianism is something that has benefited from this. After the PATRIOT Act, many people had thought their privacy and rights were not being respected, they began adopting a moral of negativity against the United States and the Bush administration.  Making the Bush administration considered one of the failures among the other administrations in the past. John Locke had wrote this as "natural" rights, well, if someone's privacy is being threatened, they think their natural rights are being threatened as well. This in a direct contradiction to what many in the history of this Country wanted.

As you read many arguments about the PATRIOT Act, one can only adopt their view on it. In times of social liberalism, progressivism, and libertarianism, one could even argue that the PATRIOT Act is something even a communists nation could adopt. Let's hope our liberties will be reinstated if this bill ever falls apart.

Blog Post 1- Enemy Of State

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk in American Government - Herman on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 6:51 pm
The Government is portrayed in a sinister way. Especially the NSA; they are shown to be ruthless with nothing other to complete their mission. In the beginning of the movie, there is a new legislation that is about to be passes. This could be a good or bad thing for the human population, so the agenda of the US Government might seem evil on the outside but to the American People's best interests at it's deep core.I feel like the Government can access too much about our lives too easily. I know, the Government can say it's a matter of National Security, but what is considered a "threat" anymore. The Government didn't respect anyone's privacy, it felt like what they were doing was to help their own cause. I feel like if the Government issued everything, they could look at it like they want to. In many schools, Teachers and other officials can look at a student's personal records whenever they want. If you are a felon or anyone who's trying to be above the law in anyway, I think the Government should be able to look up your personal information. But If they look up your information in order to save their own skin, then they shouldn't be allowed to do that. I think safety should be the number one concern for the US Government and if that takes lessening someone's freedom, then by all means, take it away.

The History Of Physics!

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk in Physics - Echols on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 10:34 pm
For our Physics class we needed a topic. For this project, I chose to talk about it's history. I'm usually a history buff, and science has never really been my thing. Since, I love history and was given a lot of freedom in choosing what I can do; I chose to make a website about the history of physics. My website documents, the "founding fathers" of physics(i.e Galileo, Newton) and what they did and accomplished in the field of science and how it has changed they way people view the world because of it. I look at major parts of Ancient physics, from Aristotle to gravity. I used Weebly to try and do this, I thought Weebly was a cool application and it was very easy to use. Overal, I really enjoyed this project!!

Summer Book Recommendation!

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk in English 3 - Rami on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 7:55 pm
I'm going to recommend the Hunger Games trilogy. I know, 3 books but it's not as bad as it sounds. All three of these books are very well written and paced well. Either you are a polished reader or wanting to pick something up, these are the books for you! Suzanne Collins brilliantly writes about Katness and her life before, during and after the Hunger games. In the first book, Prim, who is Katness's sister is chosen for the Hunger games. Katness steps in and volunteers herself fearing her sister's life. In the books following, there are many twists and turns. You won't want to put the book down.

What If History Benchmark!

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk in American History - Laufenberg on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 10:01 am
In my project, my point of divergence  is that Germany did not have to pay for all of them war crimes after World War I. The article 231 of the Treaty of Versailles had never been written and an alternative article: article 239 had been passed in its place.  After my DOV, Hitler never took over Germany because Germany didn't go into the Economic turmoil they went through. The Communist Nation of Germany had taken over, and Joseph Stalin from Russia had become that ruthless dictator of Europe. World War II had never began and the Cold War was amplified. Since World War II never happened and Germany didn't split, a lot of Germany's scientists didn't come to the US. This lead to the USSR winning the Cold War and the United States handling the Cuban Missile Crisis wrong; which ultimately lead the nuclear destruction! Ultimately, I enjoyed this project because of the broad topics we could pick from. The one thing I especially enjoyed about the project is the freedom of what I wanted to happen after my DOV. I really enjoyed researching about Joseph Stalin and how ruthless, and an overal bad leader he was. I feel like Hitler extremely impacted the future and how it changed. I could improve this project by making the transitions a lot more fluent and crisp, maybe with a little bit more time I could of done that.

Ella es buena.

He is a good person.
Él es bueno.

He is hot. (sexy)
Él está bueno.
EHL es-TAH bweh-noh.

Rico/a with ser means “rich” (wealthy). Rico/a with estar means “cute” or “sexy.”

She is rich.

Usually, in spanish speaking Countries they use complements as a sexy talk of some sorts. The more I researched, the more flirtational it was.

As you see, El esta rico is he is cute or sexy. Many of the other complements related to this but others for example were: El es rico or he is rich or ella es rico she is rich.

Even the resource was called "Hook ups in Spanish:

Sex in spanish

Good morning, sexy.
Buenos días, sexy.
bweh-nohs dEE-ahs, sehk-see.

Since adjectives agree with the plural form of the noun they are modifying the plural form of sexy is sexis. Here’s an example of the plural form:

Look at those sexy girls.
Mira a esas chicas sexis.
mee-rah ah eh-sahs chee-kahs sehk-sees.

Body Language

She has sexy body language.
Ella tiene languaje corporal sexy.

In Spain you can say you are “floja / flojo” – lazy

In Puerto rico you might say “Bambalan” – Lazy Bum

On the other hand, in Argentina they have q very nice, but rude, expression: “rascarse [ps-ref v] [rude] lit. to scratch oneself; to do nothing useful, to be lazy, to lie around wasting time.”

I hope this helps for the start about how to say lazy in Spanish slang! Cheers, Chris

REFLECTION ON ENVIRONMENT - INFOGRAPHIC

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk in American History - Laufenberg on Monday, March 26, 2012 at 1:19 pm
 What went well?

Our group worked well together and we divided the project up nicely. We all were friends and there was no fighting among us. We all did a lot of researching and we all knew what we were talking about and all the parts of the project worked well together.

What did not?

WE NEEDED TO WORK ON IT THE LAST DAY AND DAN AND RUBEN WOULD NOT GET UP SO WE HAD TO WORK ON THE PROJECT WITHOUT OUR GROUP ALL SITTING TOGETHER.  Also I feel like we rushed to finish it because we weren't ready to turn it in on Monday.

What would you do differently next time

I would not do anything differently next time, i like my group and how we work with each other. But, i would make the project a little more visually appealing

Which of these areas did you excel in? Which were not so well represented? Why do you think some elements of design were easier or harder to include in the end product?

I feel like the smart aspect of this was us, because we introduced a lot of good information.

E3.U4: Las Relaciones Personales BM

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk in Spanish 3 - Gierke on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 10:20 pm
Describe the Q3BM: what was the assignment?

The Third Quarter Benchmark was a Tv show or Radio show with guests that talk about and resolve relationship problems. We needed to have a set of Characters for the cast with a host a couple and other people giving there takes and how to resolve the problems that were happening to the Couples

What did your group decide to do and why?

My Group decided to make a Radio Show. We decided to make a Radio show because we usually make videos for spanish and we thought We could change it up once and a while. Something refreshing, we also tried to make the podcast very, very good.

What did you learn from doing this project?

I honestly learned a good amount of spanish and learned how to pronounce things very well. Also, I learned that i am really on my game because i was usually the first one to finish his part in our group. And, being in a group with Sasha, Arlana, Amanda, and Aja is pretty banging'

How do you feel about your final product?

The Final product should be pretty good, some good music, some good spanish should equal a great podcast. I feel like this should deserve a high grade because we all worked collectively very hard on it for a long time.

If you could do your project all over again, what would you do differently/the same?

I would use a video actually, with a video you can make the audience use there eyes and their ears instead of just their ears. We also could of made it a little more comedic because there could of been a good amount of bickering in this and that would of just added a lot more fun and laughs to this project. But overall, it was fun and i enjoyed making this project with my amazing group mates.

1.Explain your choice of presentation
Mike and I chose this form of presentation because it was the coolest and best way to do it. We could connect different parts of history. We can show some presidencies, compare and contracts them in cool ways and this style is really easy on the eyes.

2.Two sentences answering your EQ
What is the role of the individual in creating and sustaining change?
The role of an individual in creating change is huge. As we know, History repeats its self. So, we will need one person to do something bold to make a change for good and have good things repeat and not bad. As, in the great depression one person had changed our business systems with numerous polices and acts that ultimately brought the United States out of a depression.

3. What questions do you still have about business in America?

none.

Corruption

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk in English 3 - Rami on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 12:01 pm

I always had trouble getting up. After tough nights, I would always have trouble. The night before he was on Jupiter, tracking down a Rogue Agent from the United States Government. It was a tough night, but he had some clues on where he was.

After getting waking up,  I went to get breakfast and i saw a  name tag of one of the waitresses. Her last name was the same as the Dylan, the Rogue Agent. He could see His eyes in her, because they were such good friends in the academy.

Flashback

Cole: You’re slowing down Bro!
Dylan: No, I’m not. You’re just cheating!
Dylan: Watch out!

I roles out of the way and Dylan shoots the training drone.
Cole: Thanks Man, I don’t know what I’d do without you

While i was eating at a Cyber bar, I see a waitress. She has the same last name as Dylan but I doesn’t make too much of it. As I was eating my breakfast. I find something at the bottom of his cup. A phone number, I dials it.

Cole: Long time no talk, Dylan.
Dylan: I was hoping you’d get the message I gave you
Cole: You know I have to bring you in, you’ve gone rouge. It’s my job now, like it was your job.
Dylan: Please Cole, Meet me at a Warehouse in 324 Sabbath. We have things to talk about, and things for me to show you.
Cole: Okay, but you need to show me something that will prove your innocence. Or you I will have to bring you in.
Dylan: Deal.

AsIi was walking to the Warehouse, I become completely surrounded by people with blasters and masks on. They take my weapons, And search for any bugs on me. They say: “He’s clear”. So they take him to the warehouse. And, he finally sees Dylan for the first time in 5 years.

Dylan: Long time no see man.

Cole: A little over the top for just a meeting huh?

Dylan: I told them to trust you, they’re just usually OCD about that kind of thing.

Cole: Who is the “They”

Dylan: The Rebellion.

Cole: What?

Dylan: Cole, the people you work for. The Government we so truly think are good people, are actually bad people. They run underground operations in Galaxies around the Universe the enslave the people to make money Cole. They are bad people, The government is not who they are anymore. They are just run by people who want money, people who will do anything for it.

Flashback
Dylan is running after someone,  he is a Rogue Agent also. After a chase through the Ice burgs of Pluto,  the man gets into a hover car and so does Dylan. After a back and forth. Dylan shoots down the Hoover Car and makes The man crash, badly injuring him.
As Dylan goes to finish the rogue agent, he finds out that it’s his father
Dylan: Dad?
Dad: Long time no see, Son.
Dad: I knew they would make you do this, they always do
Dylan: Who? Who are you talking about! Why did you go rogue on us? You were my Hero!
Dylan: Dad!
Dylan: Ever since then, I have joined the Rebellion and we have been digging and digging until we found something that could bring these people down.
Cole: What?
Dylan: This..
Dylan takes out a sort of external hard drive.
Dylan: This is something that hold everything. Everything they ever did everyone that worked for them. All the operations they had run. And, all the money they stole. This could bring them down if we get it into the right hands. You.
Cole: What? What do you want me to do with it?
Dylan: Get it into good people’s hands. Go back to Earth, And find Edward McMulle. He is a Supreme Attorney who is working for us. He wants to bring them down as much as we do.
Dylan: Will you join us? Bring them down, make the Universe a better place?
Cole: I’m in.

After arriving on Earth with the Rebellion. They wear their identify changing masks, they completely change the outlook on their faces so they don’t need to hide or run. They hid in plane Sight. After going to McMulls office, they find out that, McMull is dead. They called his death an “Accident”. Shocked and confused, I start feeling fearful for my life and my families.  But, Dylan gaves me comfort, and told him that with they’re actions. They will make my children’s lives better.  “I understood” I said.

After their only chance of bring down the Government is dead. They needed to take immediate action. They needed to go into the Government building. And, take the President. Try to talk to him. But, it isn’t going to be easy. It’ll probably be a fire fight, Dylan said.

3 weeks later,  I called my family. And told them that I was conducting a mission on Saturn. And, I told them that I loved them, fearing that it would be the last time talking to them.

As Dylan Brings in all the guns and ammunition. I am reminiscent of years before when we were working for the Government, killing people we thought who were bad, but were actually innocent. It was killing me thinking about it.  Their were 20 of them, 20 of them going in to a heavily guarder building, it’s  basically a suicide mission Cole was thinking. But, it needs to be done.

As everyone gets into the Ship, Dylan gives me a hug and says ‘Thank you”. I just nod and proceeds. As they near the Government facility two aircraft droids are flying along them. And ask for their clearance. As the rebellions ship doesn’t comply they start banging on the ship and then shots starting firing, one by another the aircraft droids were going down. And, the gunner had a hot shot. As the decanted. Blasters are fired and everyone takes cover. One by one, the droids get shot down. But, one by one. One of the rebellion gets show. One after another. 20, 19, 18, 17. I was counting as he saw his friends being picked off one by one. Dylan and I were tag teaming this. They were blasting threw everything. As they got to the doors. There were only 10 of them left, they weren’t even in the building. As they go in, they are completely mortified to see that the Government is completely ready for this attack and have hundreds of droids lined up to fight. “Someone tipped them off” Dylan said. As they see their doom,  Dylan tells me  he’s sorry.

Questions:
How did you group go about making a decision for what to focus on for the project?
We just told each other to work on each others part. And, who ever had problems we would help out. Also, when coming down to a decision on what to focus on we just agreed

·       11th grade Essential ? - What is the role of the individual in creating and sustaining change?
We have to always change. Because, no one's perfect.  Everyone has there own prefrefence so they are responsible for there own learning

My understanding of the electoral process improved, since I talked with someone close with the process so, he told me a lot of the things that he knew and he told me some things that I already knew, but he was a lot of help.

I thought it being written down would be the best way because people can read the interview and really understand what the person is saying other then a video because sometimes a video can go too fast and not explain anything.

Immigration Visualization Project Reflection

I thought the information was very interesting. The dip's the rises of the time periods were interesting.

For our project we decided that we would make a picture of collage of all our times. Like, for the 2000's we showed a picture of the September 11th terrorist attacks. For the Chinese exclusion Act, we had pictures of Asians that looked distressed, so show what it did to them.

i predict that the immigration rates will increase, because as our economy grows slowly so will our immigration rates will grow. But, if Barack Obama doesn't get reelected, than i think that our immigration will decrease, heavily. Since, Most of the people that come here are either Arab/LAtino, and his vote for Latino and arab were really high, the next president wont get that approval rate, so it will decline. I don't know if that's good or bad for the United States, because we don't really need a spike in Immigration because, we barely have enough to support the people here.

Honestly, to stay on task. Because, we're all Soccer players and we just usually talk about soccer all the time, so when we get together, it was hard for us to really work together without talking about other stuff, but i think it all came together in the end because we're all great students.

The one thing i'd do differently is use another presenting tool, the one we used is a pain in the but. `

I’m from the birth of People

I’m from the home land.

I’m from dirty fields.

I’m from blood sweat and tears.

I’m from a home filled of amazing smells

And, dirty socks.

I’m from a loving family.

Who I want to kill

But, always in goodwill

They only want me to fulfull

Everything that I’m capable in.

My bed, my lovely bed

With Red sheets

So loving, so amazing

When I come home tired it’s blazing with delight

I just want to cuddle with it forever.

I’m the most delicious food you’ll ever eat.

It’s amazing and I can only find it in my amazing house

Her spouse is an amazing guy.

He’s my dad, and I love him

But, he can be an ass.

I’m Mohamed, and I love my House!

My Monologue project
My Op-Ed!
My Language Autobiography!
My History Benchmark, Q4!
English Benchmark!

This year has been life changing for me. In History and English we have learned about lots. Like, Change, freedom, religion, fight, struggle, hope, and victory. I’m going to tell you about something’s I’ve discovered in these yearlong courses. The first thing we learned about on History was religion. Me personally thought this was something that was boring and uninteresting, but later on I found it quite fun. We first got to look at our own religions and how they affect us. I am not a religious person, but my parents are Muslim and strong Muslims at that. Throughout the Religion unit, I found out that Religion isn’t one set thing that is controlled by a group of people. Religion is something that one person and his mindset can control. Jumping through a couple months ahead. Another topic we discussed was the revolution of industry around the world and how it has affected us. We watched Movies, had trials, and read about all the hardships that this has put on people and the world. A trial we did were, there were the multi national corporations, the factories, the workers, the elite, and the countrymen. We had a trial to see who is at fault. And, the general understanding I got from this until and that trial is that: The rise of industries ultimately helped the world, but with it’s help brought the rise of Super-Powers, like the US and Russia, that ultimately brought upon a lot of Modern Times problems. Another Topic that we came across was freedom. A project we did for that unit was our Monologue projects. We had to choose a specific point in History and do Monologues about them. The event I chose were the events of tieneman square Protests of 1989. A specific event that happened was the historic events of Tank Man. A lone Chinese man stood in front of 4 tanks that were heading for the square. Pedestrians ultimately took him away, but from his actions brought a global up roar and helped the Chinese take freedom. A more recent event that took place was the events that happened in a small country of Tunisia. A fruit vender lit himself on fire because he couldn’t get a job when he wants to school. This opened the eyes of the world the small country. And, the horrible conditions that the people had to live in. This small act by on person triggered a huge uproar from countries like, Egypt, Syria and Libya. The one thing I learned is: Any actions big or small can lead to huge changes in the world. Another small thing we covered in the larger, Freedom unit is the Psion System is the United States. After going to The Eastern State pennetantry, and researching about prisons. I realized that: The current Prison System does that work and is flawed. A system we should incorporate is that of a rehabilitation so past offenders do not come back.

World war 3, Op-Ed

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 9:12 am
World War 3.

You ever about if there will be a third world war? Well, maybe it’s in motion.  There’s a little place in North African, called Tunisia. A little vendor burned himself alive, and put in motion what could be the third world war. After the revolution in Tunisia happened, there was one in Egypt that was monumental, another uprising in Syria, and an uprising in Libya. In Libya fighting has broken out and the US has intervened, we can expect them to intervene in the Syrian situation as well. This could bring another war into affect, because of the positioning and the importance of Syria if The United States tries to intervene Iran, will step in, then causing another world war. To say that this isn’t bad for the United States, because war produces money, like in factories and produces jobs.

Tunisia is where this all started, a street vendor. He went to college in Tunisia, but with Tunisia’s horrible economy he didn’t find a good enough job, so he had to sell fruit. “There were too many smart young people and too little jobs in Tunisia” Says Kim Marzouk. Who lived in Tunisia for the first 25 years of his life before coming to America.

In Egypt, the situation has calmed down to where they’re rebuilding their government. There military is in powerful, but a slip, and we could see something like what happened in Haiti?

There has been tension between the United States and the Middle East for years, and this is just something to maximize that violence.

This is what America need. In the 1950’s America was facing hard times, they entered World War 2, which brought money to the United States. Money comes in from factories that make weapons of war like tanks, guns, warplanes and ammunition.

If you think about what’s really good for our country this would be it But, it could also good for our enemy countries. Iran’s nuclear presence worries the United States, and an engage of the United States into Syria could prompt Iran into declaring war which will prompt all of The United States alleys to invade, like Poland, Qatar, Norway, Spain, and many more.

All and all. This might be a long shot, because the United States could be fearful to tamper with Syria because of the Situation it has with other Middle Eastern countries could prompt a nuclear war. My Parents have inside knowledge about the situation, and they agree. “If American touches Syria, then Iran will declare war, we will see action from Lebanon’s Hezbollah, and his group, which will prompt other terrorist groups in Afghanistan, like Al-qudia.

All in all, this might be the worst thing that could come from all of this, war, death and destruction. But, in the long run, it might be helpful for the United States.

Descriptive essay

Posted by Mohamed Marzouk in English 2 - Block on Monday, December 20, 2010 at 12:43 pm

My day.

Laugh’s, cheers, fun as we were approaching the field dead silence came upon us. It was an amazing bus, fun, laughs, people singing, laughing, and having a good time like we weren’t about to play are first game it was the most important in my eye’s.  We saw the field it was a beautiful amazing sight. We got all are things and did are running, it felt like seconds doing all that. Then the opposing school bus came all eyes on them as they got off their bus. We saw them they looked menacing; they had the eyes locked on us like a snake eyeing it’s pray. We tried to look more menacing, but got a burst of laughter instead that’s what are team is like, were good people.  We stretched and did drills laughs fun trying to ease the mood. Game time I didn’t start, and me sitting on the bench felt like hours.

My name would be called soon, as I heard my name my heart dropped to my stomach, it was the first time I played in a soccer game, because I was never good enough to play, but hard work has it benefits.  As the game started we scored, it was a senior James he was an amazing player, he’s movements were fluid as a butterfly he was no doubt are best player, without him we wouldn’t be where we are now. Another goal in an instant I was on the field, which made me feel better. I thought what If I messed up what if we lost because of me and I would be off the team and my time to shine got darker like the door at the end of the light. Then I remembered my captain said don’t think about anything just think about getting the ball. When I got in I was running my hardest breathing my hardest, and through all of my hard work through the summer I made a great pass.  Which caught my coaches eye and a lot of my peers as well, I got cheers and I heard my name could of possible been the best moment of my year so far it was amazing. Then half time I was feeling good and we were up 4-1.

Coach put me in and it felt amazing running out there time flies by and when you get the rush from kicking the ball and hearing the team shouts your name there is nothing else like it. Like a kick, or a rush like drinking an energy drink. It was fun and I was doing a good job. Then I was taken out again good breather because I was getting really tired, friends all loved how I played and we had laughs and had a fun time it was a fame but it felt like I was at school having fun and being myself. Then we scored again, the game was practically over, and Coach told us not to score again which showed great sportsmanship and how good of a guy he is. Then when I as about to get in for the last time no butterfly’s this time no pressure are goalie made a bad mistake which got them back in the game and added extra pressure. But no mistakes, the game was over. They have to beat us, we don’t beat are self’s.

The bus didn’t come for hours we were bored, hot hungry, and thirsty but were all sillies and played more soccer. Boring bus ride. Once we got there we got are stuff and there was Maggie and Justin waiting for us.

Me, Matt, Mike, Justin and Maggie wanted to go to 5 guys and we were desperately and tired but 5 guys were worth it. It took forever once we got on in but again it was worth it amazing burger a meal worth are win. laughs, fun and good food! Matt found a 5-dollar bill so we got more fries, their fries are amazing.  It was time to leave then we all said are good-byes and we left. Matt and me walked the rest of the from Snyder. The walk was fun it was are usual walk we made fun of each other had laughs and talked about the game matt was a ball boy that day I made fun of him it was a good bye. As I said my goodbye’s I say the whole day before me and I said “ what a good day” I got home I told my mom and dad about my game they were proud of my upset they couldn’t be there but proud. Then I laid my head on my pillow and said “ what a good day”

Dialect paper

Everywhere you go the style of how people talk changes. You might not think that you have an accent but you do. Places like New York or Minnesota or Texas, places like them. Even places in the Northeast have very strong Accents. And it changes where you go. In my case I lived in New York for about 4 years of my life. Then I came to Philadelphia. I started 4th grade here. And I had a small New Yorker accent. I didn’t really know I had one till my friends pointed it out to me one day. This is a larger issue about this. People don’t know they have an accent but they do everywhere in the United States people have accents. And you’re judged by it. In the Deep South. There are different classes of dialect like Upper South Lexicon and the Lower South Lexicon. And they’re separated by who had the most control. This is an example of dialect in different regions. Even in the south there are two types of dialects, which reflects on the world. We should try to bring everything together and not apart. Here is a part of my life when this happened to me

“You Mohamed where you from?”

“New York (Accent)

“My home dawg where you from?

“Really I’m from New York”

“Where is that?”

Teacher

“He’s from New York class”

“Oh I didn’t understand what he was saying”

“Wait what? I don’t have an accent”

Teacher: “You’re from New York you have one”

This is an example of this I didn’t know I had an accent and I was pretty shocked when I found out. I worked really hard to get rid of my accent. If you know me now then you wont even think that I was born in New York. Now in Philadelphia I don’t think I have an accent but people tell me I do. I try so hard to get rid of these “accents” But in reality every just has them. Put in reality I that there are accents everywhere. And that is a the big problem. The fix to this problem is teaching everyone  And I tried to fix this problem, but to no avail. My teachers laughed it my face. Another scence in my life is

Dawg I bet I can beat you in any sport of there.
Nah bro you can’t, not football, nothing
Nigga I can beat yo ass in anything me and my dogs out here gonna rock yo ass
Dude come on me and my boys would destroy you in anything.
Nah dawg you shitten me my boys would shit on you
Do we got a game then?
Yea dawg I gona win.
