In Spanish you put the number before the month.

 

Ex.  My birthday is on September 24. This is how it would look.

​¿Cómo estas?: How to greet a stranger or a friend

In order to ask someone how they’re doing you must know how to:

-Open a conversation

-How to ask formally and informally

-How to answer a question if someone asks you

-When to use each greeting at what time of the day


How to say hello:

Hola!

When asking your friend or family member how they are doing, you ask:

¿Cómo Estas?


When asking a stranger or someone with high authority how they are doing, you ask:

¿Cómo Estas Usted?


Now that YOU know how ask the questions, you must know how to answer them!


The most common answers to “¿Como Estas?” are:

Muy Bien - Doing well or good

Mas o menos- Doing okay

Muy Mal- Doing bad/horrible



After greeting someone, you must always say bid them good-bye.

Answering questions

 

How to answer the question Qué dia es hoy? (what day is it?) . .

How to answer the question Qué dia es manana ? (what day is it tomorrow?)

Manana es….(lunes , martes) etc.

 

 

Now put it together, you can answer someone when they ask cuál es la fecha de hoy?

Manners are always important in EVERY culture. The same thing goes for the spanish-speaking culture too. 


Lets start with “excuse me” first. There are about 3 ways to say excuse me in spanish but each way has a different scenario:

Con Permiso

This is used when someone is in your way and you want them to move.

Disculpe

This is used to get someone’s attention.

Perdon

Finally, this is the most common. When you bump into someone or do something you didn’t mean to do. You say Perdon.


Next, are the thank you’s. There are also 3 ways to say these but they all are used them same and each one uses a different importance.

Gracias

This is used for a simple thank you. 

Muchas Gracias.

This is used to mean “Thanks a lot”.

Muy amble Gracias.

Finally, this is used to mean “Thanks a million”. 


Then, please. Please in spanish is Por favor. This is used anytime you want to say please.


Finally, the “you’re welcome”s. There are also 3 ways to you’re welcome in spanish. But this time you can use these at anytime, anywhere, for any meaning.

De nada.

Por nada.

No hay de que.

When the time is on the dot. you would say:
Son las_________ en punto

ex.
son las dos en punto-2:00
son las cinco en punto-5:00
son las siete en punto-7:00

if its five minutes after you would say:

Son las__________ y cinco

if its fifteen minutes after you would say:
Son las___________ y cuarto

Cuarto sounds a lot like cuatro, but Cuarto me a quarter so you would be saying its a quarter after. (don't get those two mixed up)

If its fifteen minutes to the next hour you would say:

Son las___________ menos cuarto

If its five minutes to the next hour you would say:

Son las___________ menos cinco

ex. 

Son las cinco menos cuarto- its fifteen minutes to five

Son las siete menos cinco- its five minutes to seven

Son las dos y cinco- its five after two

Son las cuatro y cuarto- its fifteen minutes past four 
To say its 12am you would say: 

Es la medianoche- its midnight

To say its 12pm you would say:

Es el mediodia- its noon


Now that you know the numbers, here is a real life situation of someone asking the time in Spanish class.

One way to introduce your self would be to ask how they're doing and ask their name.

Cómo estás?-How are you?                                                                                                                                                               Coḿo te llamas?-Whats your name?         When they ask for your name back you would reply: Me llamo___________-My name is____________           Or                                                                                                                    Soy____________-I'm______________                                                                             Or  Mi nombre es_____________-My name is______________
Asking where someones from:

De donde eres tu?(informal) Where are you from?

De donde es usted(formal) Where are you from?

Soy de____________ -I'm from

Soy de____________pero vivo en______________-I'm from______________but I live in________________.

Como estas-How are you

Que tal?

You could also answer this question with:

asi-asi - so-so
