Observation Drawings - Landscape Rodin Museum

Instead of going to the Landscape, we stayed in class room and looked around. I looked at my friend book bag. I drew what I seen. I added creativity, and some style. I tried to be as accurate as possible. I used paint and pastel, to make the effect better. This wasn’t to hard, It was an ok project. I didn’t like this art that I did, but it’s not that bad.

Observation Drawing - Close up drawing Mutter Museum Garden

This Project was most interesting I did such a great job on it. Instead of going outside to look at the Mutter Museum Garden, we just looked outside the window. I looked across the street from the art studio, and seen a beautiful brown, orange, and white curtain. I drew everything, it had in it. From the pattern to the exact colors. I used paint at first and didn’t like it at all. I thought it looked normal, no extra flare or creativity. So I started to add chalk. Brown, orange, and white chalk. The picture started to pop, and became something extraordinary. One of the best pieces I drew all year.

Abstraction Motion - any size (not smaller then 8-11”) Choose a motion and create a painting/drawing/collage/photograph

Well if you read my other Blog post, Abstract emotion, I talked about how weird abstraction is to me. So now I have to create a piece with abstract motion. The piece I drew was a bed of flowers blowing in the wind. I used pencil first to outline and sketch flowers, I made it look like they were blowing. I added creativity to it and lots of colors. I colored the piece in with pastel. The piece came out very interesting and I loved the motion picture. It took 3 hours to create this piece. Sometimes I be so surprised in the work that come out afterwards simply because with abstract you just draw how you feel.

Abstraction Emotion - any size (not smaller then 8-11”) Choose an emotion and create a painting/drawing/collage/photograph

Ms. Hull gave me this assignment, I was nervous. I didn’t know what to do and how to do it. Abstract, I know it had to do with colors and how I feel, but it’s a hard process. I took this assignment and tried to be different think of something new. I think that is what abstract emotion is. So I grabbed different sizes of paper, and started to draw anger, sadness, and happiness. I drew with pastel and paint.  I added my extra flavor to it and tried to incorporate my art style into it. By me being so nervous and weird when I got the assignment, I didn’t put my full effort. I had doubts about my work and how I felt.

-Drake- Best I Ever Had

This 4th quarter went differently; I started off drawing but that transitioned to working with Music. I improved in mastering shading with my Abstract emotion drawing. I tried making the lips as realistic as possible, as well as the nose. I didn't do such a great job on the other facial features but I tried my best on doing so. Working with music was super fun. I'n to record. Recording was a fun experience and also gave me headaches. After running ve had a passion for music since I was in my mother's womb, but I've never had ambitiothrough the song once, I'd listen to the recording and find a mistake. I'd have to record many times until I came to find a recording I was satisfied and was clean from mistakes.

What If Benchmark

For this benchmark I created a fake news site with articles as my primary sources. My POD was using the original copy of the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson.This copy included a paragraph about slavery. Check out how it changed the future here!

Below is a picture of the homepage.

Reflection:

During the Revolutionary War the Declaration of Independence was written. The copy that effects us today, however, was not the first or original copy of the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson wrote the first copy and in this he included a debatable paragraph that discussed slavery. For this project I decided to change history so that the original copy was used. Due to the fact that the south was all for slavery, they were not in agreement with the Declaration. In an alternate history they were so displeased that they separated themselves from the north and sided with the King of Britain.

What I liked about this project was the fact that I got to dictate what I wanted to happen. Based on my research I could create a reasonable alternate reality. What was difficult however was coming up with a situation that would really make a difference. The original idea that had was to effect the history of slavery by ending the life of Harriet Tubman. Automatically I assumed that this would rid history of the underground railroad but then it was brought to my attention that someone other that Harriet Tubman could have created the underground railroad or something similar. Another difficult thing was creating the articles (the primary sources). Often times I felt that I was being very repetitive and at a lost of what to write. I wanted to change history but not so much that I confused myself and come up with an unreasonable outcome.

I think that history itself is based on the actions of an individual or group. Without people trying to solve problems in history or standing up for what they belief there is no history. Systemic changes are a result of the individuals effect on history. Often times I think systemic changes are hyped up more in history. This is not to say they aren't important though. I didn't realize until this project that if a simple decision wasn't made in the past, it in fact could have change my life completely at the moment. Usually I think of history as a set thing, I never thought about changing it.

I think that with this project we had a lot of freedom of choice, we chose the topic, what type of primary sources, and how we wanted to present it. Now that I'm done with the project I think that it was a good idea to handle the project the way it was handled. I don't really have any improvements that I could suggest. But if I had to do this project over I definitely would have spend more time finding a topic that interest me more instead of picking the first one.

Q4 Art Charles Norman

This quarter in art I actually participated in class. I have to say this class was not bad at all. I am not a great artist, but I did enjoy trying to draw some pictures. This quarter I did two hours of art work for each grading week. I started of by drawing logos of all of the Philly teams. I felt good about it. I ended of the Quarter making a football stadium. I tried to incorporate football with this class. I had fun this quarter drawing, and painting my artwork.

Brianna Perrin Q4 What If?

My point of divergence is figuring out how technology and how much impact the world would be in if Bill Gates never had contact with his first computer? The future that I envisioned resulting from the POD is making the future more advanced. From not having Microsoft created, most of the advance technological things that we have would not exist and the big companies projects would be as updated as they would be. For example Apple with touch screen phones or XBOX 360 and other game consoles. What I liked about the project was that we were able to think and research about a topic that we always wondered about and asked questions about. What was challenging was finding out actually information that can back us up with what we decided to research. Also with trying to make what we decided to change, how will it impact the present. The most interesting fact that I investigated was that Bill Gates and another person helped create the basic coding of Microsoft. Also that big companies like Apple and Radioshack used it when it first came out for their products. The actions of individuals impact the historical record tremendously. What might be a small change in history can change the whole outlook of the future. For example what if Benjamin Franklin didn't have access to create a key or learning about the foundation of physics to launch the kite in the sky. How this project could be improved is probably putting more effort into my creativity side because I feel as though newspaper articles and a cartoon isn't as creative and showing my abilities as best as they can. If I had to do this project over what I would change about my process is how much time I spend using my resources. I know I should use all of my primary sources to my advantage but I didn't use them as effectively as I would like. Or maybe I did and I just doubt my self.

The Immigration Debate

Initially, I wanted to create a documentary based on the immigration debate; who are immigrants, where are some of them from, why do they come to the US, etc.  I did my own research by asking questions and filming interviews and conferences.  However at the last minute, I was unable to put together the final product because of technical difficulties, so my alternative final product and essentially my presentation was a run down of what I wanted to do, what I learned in-depth and what I learned from the obstacles I faced.  Hopefully this will not only educate students about immigration the laws that surround it but also a lesson on what to do and not to do while trying to make a documentary.

At this time, I'm unable to upload the artifacts to my final product.  Sorry!

Mike Sanders Q4 What if.

History B-mark What if Al Gore

My project was changing the 2000 presidential election. What would of happened if Al Gore became President. My topic was a small change but it made a huge effect. What was hard was trying to figure out what would be different and what would effect the change. I had to know what triggered the history. What I really liked was at the end when I got to control everything in history. But I had to explain why it would make sense. So I wanted to do a video. But that was going to be complicated starting a new one. So I sort of took Ryan's idea and made a timeline.

Allen Yang - What If? Benchmark

What if the Saddam Hussein's prison escape failed in 1967?

Click here to view the project.

My fourth quarter history benchmark is called the "What If? Benchmark". A project allowing us to alternate history with our own sets of events and to see how it affects the world of today. My POD (Point Of Divergence), is "What if Saddam Hussein never escaped prison?"
So if that were to happen some 50 years ago, the America today would be much different. Lets say he never took charge, because his escape was unsuccessful, then the possibility of the Iran-Iraq war might've been far out of reach eventually meaning that the Persian Gulf War would not have happened either. Probably wouldn't have sparked 9/11 either, because that's considered a blowback from smaller and weaker Islamic countries, and lastly the economic crisis would not have happened which is linked in with the Iraqi War 2003 a.k.a Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The Individual in my project would be Saddam Hussein and of course without him and his actions during the 70s and 80s. It's quite evident the affair between americans and islamics wouldn't be so heated. Everything in history happens for a reason and that's due to a decision. His influence not only affected Iraq for the past 50 years but the United States for 2 decades.
For my project, I would definitely improve on making it more visually appealing. And that's exactly what I would work on to change it if I had a chance to redo in the process of the project.

Carter theater script

(start out pacing mumbling lines to myself) If I could just stop pacing maybe I could memorize this line! Oh, sorry I didn’t see you there. I’m rather busy right now, practicing for my first audition. I know it’s in a mouth but I still want to get it down. You see I’ve been interested in theater sense as long as I can remember. Everything about it interests me, even the history of it. One of the ways that theater got started was by Mystery plays. They were stories told from the bible so that everyone could understand them, and they were quite popular until Henry VIII replaced them with secular drama. That was also when playhouses were first built. Open-air theaters surrounding a courtyard were one could ether stand or sit depending on how much they paid. Still if I could get a chance to see theater in the past I would most likely chose the theaters in Greece. “Jealous of its own renown, disdaining to adopt in me, the son of a Scytherian, preferring to my mother's child, the son of Phaedra: this preference I can dispute by right of birth, but more legitimate reasons arrest me in mine own defence. To thee I cede, or rather do return the right to claim the sceptre, which, to thy ancestors, did justly appertain. Adoption placed it in my father's hands, unmindful of thy brothers' rights; but now those brothers conquered, and that father dead, Athens repentant of continued quarrel, calls on thee. Crete offers to Phaedra's son a rich retreat; Tresena hath adopted me; Attica is thine. Accept it, pray, and may this disposition of our destinies convey to each our long desired wishes.” In that time the actors were respected. They were well paid and in high demand. Still that is not surprising saying as the whole town of Athens, and more, would show up to watch. Not only would businesses be closed but even those in prison could go out to see the plays. Yet in other areas the plays came to the prisoners. Even when Sydney was still a penal colony theater was there. The convicts themselves preformed the first play, The Recruiting Officer. Imagine what it would be to see a play in a prison. “The Crown, or Bed of Honour

Pray now, what may be the frame Bead of Honour?

O! a mighty large Bed! bigger by half then the great Bed at Ware, ten thoufand People may lie in it together, and never feel one another.

My Wife and I wou'd do well to lie in't, for we don't care for feeling one another; But do Folk fteep found in this fame Bed of Honour?”

And did you steal my wallet? I can’t seem to find it. There was always a debate on if they should have theater, it was a form of entertainment in a place made for punishment. It did survive though saying as there was a chance that prisoners would go to the theater instead of doing other things such as gambling. So for a time plays like the Revenge were preformed. “Tis twice three years funce that great

Made me the captive of his arm in fight.

He flew my father, and threw chains o'er me,

While I with pious rage purfu'd revenge.

I then was young, he plac'd me near his perfon,

And thought me not difhonour'd by his fervice.

One day

For fomethong, or for nothing, in his pride

He ftruck me

He finote me on the cheek---I did not ftab him.

For that were poor revenge---E'er fince, his folly

Has ftrove to bury it beneath a heap

Of kindneffes, and thinks it is forgot.

Infolent thought! and like a fecond blow!

Affronts are innocent, where men are worthlefs;

And fuch alone can wifely drop revenge.”

In the end theater was stopped though because as they watched prisoners would ether pickpocket the audience or go and brake into their house. For me one of my favorite playwrights is Shakespeare. He had such a skill with words that even today his comedies fill theaters with laughter.

“I left no ring with her: What means this lady?

Fortune forbid my outside have not charmed her

She made good view of me; indeed, so much

That sure, me thought her eyes had lost her tongue

For she did speak in starts distractedly.

She loves me, sure, the cunning of her passion

Invites me in this churlish messenger

None of my lord's ring Why, he sent her none,

I am the man; if it be so, as 'tis,

Poor lady, she were better love a dream.

Disguise, i see, thou art a wickedness,

Wherein the pregnant enemy does much.

How easy is it for the proper-false

In women's waxen hearts to set their forms!

Alas, our frailty is the cause, not well

For such as we are made of, such we be,

How will this fadge? My master loves her dearly;

And I, poor monster, fond as much on him;

And she, mistaken, seems to dote on me.

What will become of this? As I am man,

My state is desperate for my master's love;

As I am woman -now alas the day!-

What thrifness signs shall poor Olivia breathe!

O time thou must untangle this, not I;

It is too hard a knot for me to untie.”

Still I think he should be acknowledged for his tragedies. For throughout human history there have been events that makes us wonder how such a thing could happen, and so we want it explained. We are not just disgusted by what happens in his plays but feel pity and have empathy on the fallen hero. In a way we see a bit of ourselves when we see their internal struggles and so are hopefully changed for the better by their fall.

“He is here on double trust,

First, as I am his Kinsman and his Subject,

Strong both against the dead; then as his host,

Who should against his Murtherer shut the Door,

Not  bear the knife my self. Besides, this Duncane

Hath borne his Faculties so meek, hath been

So clear in his great Office, that his Virtues

Will plead like Angels, Trumpet-tougu'd against

The deep Damnation of his taking off;

And Pity, like a naked new-borne Babe,

Striding the Blast, or Heaven's Cherubin, hors'd

Upon the sightless Currior of the Air,

Shall blow the horrid Dead in every Eye,

That Tears shall drown the Wind, I have no Spur

To prick the sides of my Intent, but onely

Vaulting Ambition, which o'erleaps it self,

And fall on th' other.

To morrow, and to morrow, and to morrow,

Creeps in this petty Pace from Day to Day,

To the last Syllable of Recorded Time;

And all our Yesterdays have lighted Fools

The way to dusty Death, - Out, out, brief

Candle.

Life's but a walking Shadow, a poor Player,

That struts and frets his Hour upon the Stage

And then is heard no more; it is a Tale

Told by an Idiot, full of Sound and Fury

Signifying nothing.”
