Niyala Brownlee Art Work Quarter 3

I think that the thing i liked most was making the fur picture. I love cats, but I've always been bad at drawing them, but it actually turned out pretty nice.  I dont think that painting is really my strong point. When we had known we we going to do a color wheel, I was actually super exited and commingup with all these ideas of how I was going to present mine in an abstract way. I had sketched my stuff out and the critisized my work. Though soon i started to procrastinate once again, and actuallly painted it on the last day of art of the third quarter. I think i have gotten much better at drawing realistic eyes, though creating a full face with a nice eye is something I have to work on. I think one of my strong points is to draaw by seeing another work. Its hard for me to sketch things from my own head, but it is easy to come up with them. Most of the time anyway.

All  of my photos are also on my twitter page incase they dont upload here.

Q3 Artwork

My drawings for the third quarter consist of utilizing the drawing techniques of shading, texture, and perspective. For my shade drawings I used basic shapes and a nose I found online. For my attempt at these drawings I first began lightly drawing the shape of my object. This was preparing me to be able and add more dimension and realism to my artwork. After my light strokes, I started increasing the intensity of my strokes to give a representation of contrast of lighting. I used my index finger to blend in the artwork to give a sense of coherency. I darkly colored the outside of one particular section of art to make it appear as if there was lighting going on. I also did a perspective drawing where I drew an end of a hallway with a door at the center or "end" of the hallway. I also drew doors on both sides of the wall.

Next I did a self portrait of myself. I started by drawing the interior parts of my face which include my nose and mouth. After that I added more strokes to the nose and mouth to make the drawing come to life. Then I tried the best I could to draw the outer parts of my body which would include my ears and the top of my hairline. I had a hood on so I wanted to make myself appear as though I had one on. I think that was one of the best drawings I did this year.

The texture drawing was the worst thing I did this quarter. I found this task too difficult for my skill set, but I tried my best. I attempted to draw strands of hair with different sections looking more intense than others, but I think it turned out remedial. I did not do water colors or fur because I none of the ones I did were even worth turning in.

As i did the self portrait of myself i realized there was more to me than i thought. The details and edits were very interesting, they was a little difficult though. i learned how to actually try and master my drawings not because i draw bad but because its the dedication and effort that counts the most. The features and edits were fairly easy to learn about but hard to do, i did my best on the picture though and came up with a picture i like.

ADVART: Q3 - Dakota Foster

Here I have:

Color Wheel

Texture

Shade

Self Portrait

Color Wheel

For the Color Wheel, I only was able to use yellow, blue and red. They are the primary colors, when mixed and matched they are able to make any secondary color. I wanted to keep my Color Wheel simply and classic. I was inspired by the one in our art textbooks and I went off of that one. I drew a circle and separated it into 12 sections. Each section had the color it was going to be. The paper I used wasn't that good though because it started to fold in on itself and everything like it. My technique for doing the watercolors and getting them to blend was to water down the base coat for the paint. Then, I would paint it over with the color need to be mixed and then the colors would bend easily.

Texture

For Texture, I did scales, water, and hair.
Scales
I based it off of the video that Ms. Hull gave us and tried to make it close to that. First, I made the outline of the snake. Next, I drew the eye in the middle of the head and drew the tongue. The head of the snake is full of diamonds of different sizes. Then, I drew a gride on the rest of the body. In every square, I drew an oval shape to make it look like scale. I would say that it came out well.

Water

I had a really hard time trying to figure out what I wanted to do for water. I was doing many different types of water: still water, moving water, and water hitting rocks. None of them came out as nice as I would have wanted to them too. So, I decided to do waves. I saw a picture of them and thought I could make them look great. First, I drew the biggest wave and then drew the smaller waves under it. I made sure the curl of the waves overlap each other. Then, I drew lines inside the waves so, it would look like the water is moving in all direction. Also, the viewer's eye could follow the lines and know which way the water is going.

Hair

I repeat, I repeat Hair was the hardest texture for me. I don't know why but it just was. I couldn't get it down. I tried short hair, long hair, medium hair, curly hair, and bone straight hair. But, the pictures never looked right. So, I just put up the one that I thought was the best. I drew the outline of the face first and then, I drew the hair around the girl's head. I made it so that one side of the head was bald because I think those type of hairstyles' are bold.

Shade

For this part I did, Exercises 1, 2, 3, and 4. I think these show that I need more help with shading. First, I was pretty certain that I was using the wrong type of pencil - the grade. But, I tried anyway. The exercise weren't as easy as I thought they would be. I was trying to blend the pencil together, but that didn't work either. I didn't know what I was doing wrong but, I knew that I was doing something wrong. For my technique, I would start with a coat all over the page with a white part left over. Then, I would go over the part that would be the darkest part and blend that in with my fingers. I would keep doing that all over the parts after that, but I would go lighter and lighter as I went down the photo.

Self Portrait

I don't really know what I have to say about this photo. I would say that I did my best. This was the hardest for me out of all the drawings. I didn't want to make myself look ugly because I would be embarrassed. I tried to separate everything equally with the lines of the page. I think my face was too big in the picture compared to my body, my face stood out more in the picture. I wanted to make everything portionable and realistic.

Q3_ArtistStatement_Garcia

Artist Statement

Through out this quarter we used the basics from the last two quarters and made better art pieces. Since in the last two quarters we had worked on perfecting our shading and drawing object more real with out using the original black lines since there are no black lines lining everything. We had to make a Color wheel which demonstrated the use of colors and what can be done with only the colors blue, red, and yellow. We also had to make two self portrait to develop our detailing in drawings. As well we also had to make a perspective drawing which opens our eyes to nature and fixing our outer detail drawing. This quarter truly shows our artistic abilities and shows if we were able to capture everything we learned from the videos and from what Ms. Hull taught us due to the fact that we were given more responsibility with out work and more freedom to make it our own.

During the time that it took me to make my self portrait I learned more about capturing the human body. While I was drawing I noticed more about the features on my face and body than I would on a regular basis looking in the mirror. I started off by drawing the basic features on the human face and thought I was done. I did not realize that it didn't look like me and I had drawn some other average person. Thats when I had to really analyze my face to capture specific details and make the drawing more me. Thats where shading comes for skin tone and to capture lighting. This had to be my favorite art piece since it was challenging and I'm proud with what turned out. This is something I would like to practice another time to master it and hopefully then learn to get into more detail such as hair or eyes.

Qaswa's Q3 Art work

This quarter was bit difficult than the previous one because it mainly included the realistic things like drawing self portrait, hairs, water and scales. I made self portrait and mistake in my face shape in smaller one but in larger one, i tried to make it correct.

SMALL SELF PORTRAIT

P1080806

LARGE SELF PORTRAIT

P1080789

For texture, it was very hard to focus in drawing the realistic hairs and water because they all are based on the shading which makes them look real.
  P1080793

Drawing water is the most difficult i believe because layers of water are difficult to make but i tried to show that by shading.

  P1080794

Scales is the easy to draw if we know some of the basic points to draw that.

Shade, 12x18” each (4)

Shading was fun and easy. We learned shading before, so I could do it very easily. I found that shading was most relaxing and not as stressful. I tried to have fun. I followed the guidelines, from a website Mr. hull gave us. I picked the four I liked the most, shading was interesting because I use shading for almost every picture.

Sabrina Stewart-McDonald_Q3

I think I work best in pencil; I am getting better at shading and when I work with other things, such as the water color paints, I feel like I do not have as much control. I was most proud of my hair drawing because I believe it looks very well and almost realistic; I love the way the shading turned out. At first I didn't think I could do it, but once I tried it and tried the shading in it, I found that I could make it work.

Self-Portrait: I like the shading in the picture, but it doesn't really look too much like me. I showed my mom and she said it looks like me when I was younger, so that makes me think that I see myself as younger than I really look. I really like the eyes, also. Each time I draw eyes, I think they get more and more realistic looking. I also practice drawing them in my spare time.

Color Wheel: I really like color and was excited when I saw one of the projects was a color wheel, but one of the things I worried about was the fact we had to use watercolor paints, which I have little to no experience with. I kinda dove into it headfirst to see what would come out and though the paint bled a bit, I believe it came out quite well. I didn't think I would be able to mix the colors, but in the end I was quite good at it.

Texture Drawings: A main aspect of the texture drawings is shading, so I felt good about putting my shading abilities to the test to see how things would end up. I think I did quite well with the hair, but I think the water drawing could use some improvement. I see it as something I will try to work on more in the future to try to improve my shading abilities even more.

2-Point Perspective: I haven't done two point perspective in a while, so I felt challenged attempting to do one. In the end, I feel like it turned out well, but I felt like I couldn't really add too much detail to it because every time I tried to, it looked a little strange. I will continue to practice doing them and in the future I hope to attempt a project like this again and be able to add detail to it (to the point where the detail will follow the perspective).

Shading Practice: I liked the shading practices because they gave me an idea of what level I was on when it came to shading. I'm not very advanced and I could obviously use more practice, but I feel like I get the general idea of how to shade and how to blend.

Artist Statement Q3 - Breeanna Noi

During this quarter, we focused more on realistic artwork.

I worked on my self portrait that didn't quite end up looking like me because I chose features of my face from different pictures. So my self portrait looks good TO me, but it doesn't look LIKE me.

The next piece of art was the 2 point perspective that is shown to be very rough. I'm not very good at drawing landscapes so when I get frustrated with drawing specific detail of a sky or of the ground, I just turn everything into a rough shadow of the entire landscape.

Afterwards, I worked on my color wheel using the primary colors of water colors. It was fun because I felt like I was back in elementary school using my general knowledge of colors to match it up to the color wheel.

As for the textures and drawing hair, I'm not too experienced at drawing realistic looking features. My features look cartoonized in a way. However, I looked at an image of a braid and I tried my best to show a realistic sketch. My strokes were hidden from my over-shading so it isn't how I wanted it to turn out.

My other pieces are various works of art I've worked on during the quarter. The girl's back and her hair is something that is the most realistic I'll get in a picture. My "Batman" looking image was something simple that I wanted to try out, so I did. Lastily, I drew Stewie as a nerd because Stewie has always been a challenge for me to draw. His head was either too round or too oblong, but with this sketch, I'm finally content with Stewie's head.

Quarter 3_Artist Statement

Below are all my drawing and artist statements for each one:

Point Perspective-
100MEDIA95IMAG0513
100MEDIA95IMAG0513
Creating this assignment began by making sure that I knew where my foreground, background, and vanishing points coexisted. Once I did that this entitled me to be able to create the scenery through a school building. I added specific details such as lockers as well to add to the display. Through out this project it was challenging to create the different objects so that the correspond with the lines and seem three dimensional.
Hair/Texture-
100MEDIA95IMAG0512
100MEDIA95IMAG0512
For hair and texture not only did I focus on texture aspects, but features for people as we'll. While doing this the only material that I used was a pencil. I noticed that when doing hair the features of the face and details were very determining as to how it would look. Another reason that I focus on both aspects is because it helped me create more skills. Making hair in general consisted of detailed line strokes. Overall this topic is something that I am open to getting better at in terms of my technique.
Large Self Portrait
100MEDIA95IMAG0508
100MEDIA95IMAG0508
Within this picture, is just a large blown up view of my smaller self portrait. I decide to draw from the same picture of myself. This was all in attempts to conquer and capture important details. I felt as if the arms could face had more structure and detail to it. Although my main focus was to work on facial details and becoming more precise with shapes. In the future I would work on the arm details more and possibly add more shading.
Small Self Portrait-
100MEDIA95IMAG0507
100MEDIA95IMAG0507
When drawing myself, it was a very difficult assignment. In fact it didn't even seem like it was a portrait of myself. I still don't feel like this picture does either. Self portraits take a lot of practice, so I am not discouraged. The details and shapes are noted to be some of the most important parts of creating these ties of images. I noticed that the hair in this picture did look a like to the was my hair was in the original picture.
Texture Water-
Screen Shot 2012-04-13 at 11.54.19 PM
Screen Shot 2012-04-13 at 11.54.19 PM
Drawing this was pretty difficult. The shading made it hard to capture in terms of making it 3d. The water popped out after I figured it out so that I could find the water within the paper. After erasing after a while it became easier to create water, since it is clear. When doing this the water image then appeared making me content with what I had.
Shading-
Photo on 4-14-12 at 1.53 AM
Photo on 4-14-12 at 1.53 AM
Shading was difficult. In order to capture the correct amount of color and scales to it is what made this so intense. In the beginning this is what stood out to me. After erasing some of the shades it looked more like the image that I was trying to portray.
Scales-
Photo on 4-14-12 at 2.52 AM
Photo on 4-14-12 at 2.52 AM
Making this fish was actually very entertaining. It didn't consist of doing much, but making the shapes and scales. The scales seemed difficult to draw at first when starting off from the end, but afterwards they just got easier to depict throughout the drawing. I feel like my drawing looks exactly like the one shown in the example as well. The only materials that I used for this specific assignment was a pencil. I oddly noticed that this assignment had no shading to it, but just consisted of shapes.

Journal-

1. Projects I have completed:

  • Self Portrait small
  • Self portrait large
  • texture
  • 2 point perspective
  • shade
2. I can't because you made your submission form for 9:15 instead of 11:59 p.m.

3. I did not complete the color wheel.

4. During this quarter I slacked off a bit. My work ethics consisted of just looking at the work and how I could get it done. I didn't really spend as much time as I could on each item, although I wish I could have. Overall, I was pretty good with trying new things out although trying to figure out how to draw my self portrait was the most time consuming. I think that I could have worked more on other assignments. Lastly, I think that I should have made my own deadlines for this quarter.

5. Next quarter my goal is to try abstract emotion because this is very interesting because I am not great with displaying my emotions or even trying to draw emotions. Another goal for next quarter is to work hard on my observation landscape assignment because I have trouble collecting real world scenarios and putting it on paper the way it looks.

Danny Wirt- Q3 work

For this quarter in art class, we focused on shading, working with different colors and a little bit of prospectives. We were required to draw some self portraits, paint a color wheel, working on perspectives and shading. The use of the paint was a little difficult for me because i am not much of a painter. I did however put effort into trying to make it work and I am satisfied with the result. With my self portraits i don't feel as though i really captured what i look like, however it is all up to observation. The shading portion of this quarter I found to be fairly simple. I feel like shading has always been rather simple for me and i found the exercises to be quite fun. The two point perspective i found to be rather difficult. I find myself having difficulty with making buildings. I get the concept of how the windows look with the two point perspective, however, i feel i am not good at making lines work well to make buildings look real. It was a bit out of my comfort zone, but overall I am happy with my work.

Goals for Conversation

Some of my main goals are:

-talk about experiences

-add more detail to stories

-simply hold a conversation

-think of different/new questions to ask people

-correctly use spanish grammar

Some question could be:

What do you like to do in your city?

 How is your family doing?

What is your favorite type of food? etc...

Charles Norman Artist Statement

I opted out of art class in Q3, so I do not have any art to show. I used this band as a get myself together period. Sometimes I would do work, and other times I would take walks around the school. I using this period as like a free period, but I'm now ready to come back to class, and do some Art. Q4 I will not opt out of art class, I want to come to class to draw somethins, and complete all assignments.

Kimberly Cayamcela: Quarter 3 Art Work

-Self Portrait Drawings
-Color Wheel
-Hair
-2 Point Perspective
-Shading

-This 3rd quarter I found some difficulties in my drawings. I thought it would be easy to draw myself since it is I, myself who is drawing. But, that wasn't the case. The first self portrait was not too bad nut not too good. I expected to be more realistic with my face. My second attempt improved a lot. The way in which I drew my nose looks more real and accurate than my first attempt. Also, the lips look more real. My shading has improved this quarter, I believe. I have learned different ways to make shading more realistic, such as rubbing it with an eraser and spitting on the paper and smothering it. This drawing resembles me quite well because my hair is almost always covering one side of my face.
-I was not satisfied with my color wheel. But, it's not that bad. I was a little confused in mixing the colors together and making it blend in like a rainbow.

-Like I said above, I have incorporated shading techniques now that I know of them. Usually when I draw, I just scribble over and over again to make it look like hair. Now, when drawing hair, I color in the hair as if I was coloring a picture with crayola and smear it.

-I really enjoyed drawing my 2 point perspective because I'm naturally good at drawing buildings and such.     My favorite part was drawing the shadow.

-The shading within the shapes was definitely not my strongest drawings. I tried to over and over again and the below pictures were the best I could do. I don't know why shading was difficult with drawing these shapes if I can do a good job when drawing hair. Perhaps I just need better eye sight and need to learn how to work with pencil more.
Over all I see that I'm improving with my drawing little by little and hope to continue doing so next quarter!

Español Tres- Proyecto de Conversación

For my fourth quarter, I have been given an assignment where I have to look use social media to communicate with a native Spanish speaker, in order to improve my own fluency in Spanish. For this, I will be using Livemocha, with the possibility of using Twitter as well to reach out to native speakers. Livemocha is quite an interesting outlet for learning Spanish. Using the website, I will be able to find a native Spanish speaker that wants to live English, making it a mutually beneficial relation. The three goals I have constructed for myself are below-

-How to know when to use accents when writing the language.
-Shortcuts to knowing how to use past and future tense and the differences between them.
-Terminology for architectural terms. Architectural ideas.

As well as having three goals from this project, I also have an essential question, which I am hopeful to find an answer to at the end of this project – By using social media, how can I, as a student benefit from using these social tools to communicate with native speakers understand the language?

I didn't complete the small and large self-portrait. I completed the color wheel, also the texture picture, the point perspective and also the shade picture. The color wheel is done with the colors from light to dark because Primary Colors: Red, yellow and blue In traditional color theory (used in paint and pigments), primary colors are the 3 pigment colors that can not be mixed or formed by any combination of other colors. All other colors are derived from these 3 hues. Secondary Colors: Green, orange and purple. These are the colors formed by mixing the primary colors. Tertiary Colors: Yellow-orange, red-orange, red-purple, blue-purple, blue-green & yellow-green. These are the colors formed by mixing a primary and a secondary color. That's why the hue is a two-word name, such as blue-green, red-violet, and yellow-orange. The texture picture is done in my own creative way the way I seen the way it was supposed to be done was you had to be able to feel the texture. So I created a heart with different things from around my house that feel different and has different textures. It was really creative to. My perspective picture is based off of lines. The way I seen it was they had to connect and then turn into something so I turned it in to a lot of triangles I just though it was very creative. Next quarter I want to not wait to the last min and do my projects I will be sure to get all my work done on time and get it done rite. Next quarter I want to do more big art peaces then small ones.

Q3 Art Journal By: Morgan Taylor

This quarter I dd only two of the projects that Ms. Hull assigned to the class, unfortunately the were both thrown out because I left them in the room on accident. The other 4 projects that were assigned I did not do because I regretfully used the class as a sort of study hall. I did benchmarks and homework when I should of been doing the artwork that was assigned. I talked to Ms. hull about what I did instead of trying to rush at the last minute to finish all of the work that I did not do. When I talked to Ms. Hull about my work ethic this quarter she explained to me how she sets us up for failure and that maybe too much freedom does not work with how I do things. One goal I have for myself this up coming quarter is to do all of my work and to have the same mind set as I did in the first quarter. I would like to get back to doing art well and having fun while doing it. I do not want to have another quarter like this, I have failed and learned. Next time I want to do a lot better.

Q3, Blog

This quarter in art, I feel as though I didn't do as good as I could had. I feel as though I kind of slacked off but still managed to get most of the things done. However, I will do much better nice quarter because of the weekly check-ins. If I would had put the effort in it this year I would had got everything done.

This quarter we had to create two self portraits, one small and one large. I wasn't able to do either of them, because I'm not capable of drawing faces. I did try to draw them though, but I failed and decided not to use them. The other assignments were: color wheel, texture, 2pt perspective, and shade. As you can see below in the picture below my drawings. I can say that I tried my hardest on all of them, but didn't really accomplish anything.

I know that I'm actually bringing myself down but I'm just telling the truth. Next quarter I'll do much better as I said before. Anyways, here's all my work:
