4Q Benchmark Reflection

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Globalization - Laufenberg on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 11:31 am
Here is my benchmark
The most challenging part of this benchmark for me was collecting all the pictures for each topic. I found this project difficult because categorizing each topic with globalization seem like each could be represented differently. And all the pictures had to be taken in Philadelphia to show how globalization has happen over time or is still happening. As I travel around Philadelphia taking pictures I started to see that globalization was easily seen in some communities that others. In the end I really enjoy this project because I’m able to walk around the city and see it in another light then I have before.

A Day In the Life Of 12 years old boy name Nattawud Daoruang. (Thailand)

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Globalization - Laufenberg on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 6:21 pm

For the assignment, the day in the life of a 12-year, I did a day in the life of a 12-year-old boy in Thailand. What I found out is that life in Thailand for a 12-year old boy is really similar to the life as a 12-old in the United States, in regards to education, hobbies, and even family. It is important that all children go to school in Thailand. In Thailand children are considered as the most valuable resource to the country; so they are cared for. The Thai has a saying that goes like this, "Children are the future of the nation, if the children are intelligent, the country will be prosperous."

Today Monday is April 11, 2011. The weather is sunny and warm. On my way to school today someone hit my mom from the back. So she had to call cops, which took them 25 minutes to finally arrive. And took them another 30 minutes to gather all of the info. In total I ended up missing my first period class and half of my lunch. But I'm glad that nothing bad happen, so here I am writing my story for today.

Our Deepest Fear

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Storytelling - Chase on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 10:53 pm
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. [Marianne Williamson]

This is my all time favorite quote of all time.

shhh dont tell my mom

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Storytelling - Chase on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 5:07 pm
So I went to my bank to get my new card because my purse was stolen a few weeks ago and I had everything in it. Anyways after getting my new bank card I asked for my bank statement and to my surprise I use my card way to much. Like I don't even realize that when I go to the store I just get things and slide my card without even caring how much I'm spending. Like I freaking spend over $600 in less then one month. OMG don't let my mom find out because she's going to trip. Anyways I told myself that I wouldn't use anymore money of my card on Friday but its to late for that I've already spend $124 in less than three days. What am I going to do with myself in the future? OmG I think I need therapy ASAP!! :(

My Role Model

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Storytelling - Chase on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 11:04 pm

Like all siblings, my sister and I never got along well when we were growing up. We were always at each other’s throat arguing and fighting every little chance we had. Someone watching from the sideline that did not know us might have had the impression that we truly loathed each other. But behind all our fighting and bickering we still secretly loved each other.  Nowadays, kids and young adults my age look up to celebrities as their role models. I on the other hand look up to my older sister as my role model because she influenced me to be the best that I can possibly be. She inspired me to never give up and tells me that nothing is impossible once you try. "excerpt from my college essay"

I can’t believe we have only two more months left until school is over. I can’t wait because I’ll finally be able to take a long break and won’t have to worry about waking up early in the morning and most of all we wont have to catch three things just to get to school every morning. I’m also excited for starting my new life in college.

Stolen Purse

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Storytelling - Chase on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 5:57 pm

Where do I start? So last week Wednesday my sis, my aunt, and my niece and I went to War-mart to look for something I can’t even remember what is was that we went to buy but anyways that’s not the problem. So we’re at the store and my niece is crying so I give her my purse to play with while she’s in the cart and I’m pushing her and then my aunt comes over and ask me to go to the food mart to get her some cinnamon pretzel. So I took my niece out of the cart and give her to her mom and went to get the pretzel for my aunt. While standing in the line I realize that I didn’t have my purse with me so I asked my aunt and sis if they had it and they both said no. I was like it was in the cart with Camilla they were like its not here. So I left the food mart and went to look in the cart and for real it was gone. I couldn’t believe it, because I was only gone for less than 5 minutes and somehow someone manages to take it with out my sis and aunt seeing him or her. So what I did next was to go to customer service and see if anyone had returned it. When I went and asked the girl there if they found a little pink purse of if someone returned it she looked in the cabinet and said no. I asked if they could check the cameras to see if they can see what happen, she called and then told me to go and stand where everything happen so I did and after some time I came back to her to see what she would say and she said that they didn’t see anything and that was it. I was getting mad because they really didn’t seem to care much. So I decided to go home and call my bank to cancel my cards and I called the police to make a police report. The worst part was when I called they asked me for my info and told me that a officer would contact me within an hour and to this date no one has ever contacted me. I’ve been so stressed because I have my entire life in my purse my visa card, $200; gift cards, social security card, IDs, pictures, receipts, and more and now I have to get everything again. I really hate people that steals.

Trust me

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Storytelling - Chase on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 9:26 am

I remember when I was younger I could do almost everything I mean from riding my bike to climbing trees and so forth. My sister Nat is four years older than me and she’s a punk. I learn how to ride my bike before she did and roller skate before she did. So one summer my sister and I was playing outside with our friends and of course my friends and I were showing off our skating skills while my sister and my other friends was watching us. Than suddenly I had an idea I told my friends that we should go up the hill and skate down because it would be fun. And some how I manage to talk my sister into doing the same. She was hesitant at first and you know I told her “trust me you’ll be ok and its fun.” So she agreed and came up the hill, next thing you know she’s rolling down the hill screaming, “HELP ME, HELP ME.” By the time we could help her she was all bruised up. Lol that was one of the last time she ever listen to me again.

Ignorant & Loud Family

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Storytelling - Chase on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 11:29 am

After school yesterday Rumman and I went to olive Garden to eat and just hang out. After eating we went to 15th street to take the L to go home. While on the L an African American family got on they were about six and as soon as they got on our cart that was once quit got loud. The father atomically told this guy to move over so that his dad can sit. Rumman and I looked at each other like what, like it was rude the way in which he asked the guy to move over. And that wasn’t even the bad part. Since there were six of them two of them sat in front of us, another two sat behind us, and the last two sat across from us. So Rumman and I were boxed in like they were talking so loud and listening to music with out and head earphones they were acting as if they were in their own private vehicle. It was a mess and the other people that were on the L began to talk about them I swear if they were my family I would have acted as if I didn’t know them lol.

SNOW DAY SCHOOL CLOSED

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Storytelling - Chase on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 11:25 am

Okay what is wrong with the School District? I woke up this morning took a shower got dress and started doing my hair when my little cousin said you don’t have to get ready. I asked her why and she replied because we don’t have school. So I ask why? And she said because of the snow. What snow? You mean it snowed last night and she said yes. So I stop doing my hair and went to look out the window, and I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. I mean I do wear glasses. You mean we got a day off school because of this? Really like not even a two-hour delay but a whole day off. No this can’t possibly be true so I grabbed my laptop and typed in the Google search engine Philadelphia School District and clicked on the like and this is what it read…

“Due to the inclement weather, all School District of Philadelphia schools are closed Tues, Feb 22. Also closed for all 12-month principals and assist principals.”

This is B.S Schools got cancel for like about a 1/12 of snow are you kidding me? We better not get days taken away from our Spring break due to this bull because this was their fault and not ours we all could have went to school today instead of staying home.

Capstone Progress

For my capstone project I’m creating a business plan for my boutique. So far everything seems to be falling into place. I’ve been on track with my outline in fact I’ve done all the part that I needed to and now I’m doing other parts that’s due later dates.  But for some reason I’ve been stuck on the Executive Summary for the past two days and don’t know what to write. But to my surprise today when I opened my Google doc and began to write I could not stop myself and ended up write four pages before stopping.  I hope this continues until my entire project is completed.

My scared cousin

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Storytelling - Chase on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 11:18 am

This weekend my cousin was over he was in the basement playing video games. And I was upstairs in my room watching one of my Korean dramas went suddenly the Internet went off. I was like what the hell just happen? I was in the middle of the good part like Mary was about to find out about who kidnapped her boyfriend. Like really, really, so I went down stairs to see what was wrong.  The light wasn’t on but I could still see with the light from the TV. So I bent over to see what was wrong, and I saw that the power plug had came out off the wall. I put the plug back in and just when I began to get up my cousin jumped an screamed while running towards the back door it was the most funniest thing I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t stop laughing, apparently he was in the bathroom when I came downstairs and since it was dark he didn’t see me so when I got up he thought someone had broken in and that’s why he screamed and ran.

Maggiano's for Lunch, seven hours later...

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Storytelling - Chase on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 11:17 am

………Seven hours later, here I am again, so as you know Rumman, Amber and I went to Maggiano’s for lunch. So for appetizers we ordered the Maggiano's Mozzarella Marinara. And I must admit it was delicious. So we were waiting for our Entrées, I ordered the Linguine Mare, Amber ordered the Mom's Lasagna – Marinara and Rumman ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo. After like 10 to 20 minutes our meals were ready when we saw them our mouth got watery, as soon as the waitress left we began to eat. While eating we asked each other how the food was, Amber replied “mine taste great, how’s yours” she asked? I don’t know but my noodles are underdone I answered. “So is mine” Rumman said, I thought I was the only one.

Never trust babies

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Storytelling - Chase on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 11:13 am

Earlier today I planned on hanging out with some of my out of school friends. So I got up took a warm shower and got dressed. I had put o my favorite skinny legs jeans with my favorite pink top and my black boots. I got my hair done and I was just waiting for my friends to pick me up. So while waiting I started playing with my little niece but then she began to cry so I was wondering why she was crying. I knew she wasn’t hungry because my older sister had fed her about 30 minutes ago. So I touched her dippers to see if she was wet and bingo she was. I took of her wet dippers but what I did wrong was that I did not make sure that there were dippers in her bag. I had to send my little cousin upstairs to get some and by the time she went upstairs to get it, it was to late. I felt something warm dripping down my legs when I looked down it was my niece and she was peeing. OMG PRECIOUS YOUR DAUGHTER JUST PEED ON MY FAVORITE JEANS!

Back To The Gym

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Storytelling - Chase on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 11:11 am

So today I woke up and I could not get out off bed, my entire body felt so sore. I had to stay in bed for about an hour more before I could finally get myself out off bed. See my sister and I signed up for the gyp in September we went there four days a week but as time went by and I started school and she was working and in school at the same time we began to spent less and less time at the gyp and before we could realize it we had stopped going to the gyp. But this weekend we decided that we would start going again, and we were excited to go and work out again, but what we forgot was the morning after affects. So after 2 and the half of working out at the gym yesterday has caused our entire body to break down. Next time I go back to the gym I’ll make sure I don’t push myself too hard unless I wont wake up for days lol.

If I Knew Then What I No Now

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Storytelling - Chase on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 3:29 pm

When I was I think about eight or nine years old I when through this face where I would mimic everything someone said to me. I was also a snitch, I mean I’m not anymore but I was back then. I grew up with my two older sisters and they hated me because I was always telling on them. Like I would eavesdrop while they were on the phone and then later tell my mom what they said. So this one-day they told my mom that they were going to hang out with their girl friends but really they went out with their boy friends. When I found out I couldn’t wait to tell my mom. I mean you no what snitchers like best is to snitch. So as soon as my mom got home from work I ran to her and told her what had happen. Boy was my mom mad, she grabbed her belt and you know what happen next lol. At the time I was all smiles well not for long, the next day when my mom went to work I was done for. Both my sisters grabbed me and locked me up in my mom’s room until my mom was about to get off work and they let me out like they didn’t do anything. Well you know what I did, I told mom what they did to me. And once again you know what my mom did to them. I think it was like a day a two later I was on it again I kept mimicking my oldest sister, but what I forgot was that she had an anger problem. So I kept repeating everything she said. We were both standing on the top of the stairs like in the little hall. And she was like “Arthurline stop repeating everything I say”.  And I was like Precious stop repeating everything I say. “I’m not playing with you”. I’m not playing with you. “I swear I will punch you down the stairs”. Now we both know that was not the best idea to repeat what she had just said but knowing me I did anyway. And before I realize I was already rolling down the stairs. That was the last thing I remembered. When I woke up I was in the hospital with bandages on my nose. After an hour my mom asked me if I remember what had happen and boy did I remember lol. I told her everything and once again my sister got in trouble; and she had to take care of me and feed me until got better. If I knew than what I know now I would have never mimic my sister and I would have never gotten a broken nose.

So today I had plans with Rumman but things didn’t work out the way it should have. Like today is so beautiful outside so we were thinking about hanging out and then going to Red Lobster for dinner. But unfortunately we were both so tired that we decided to cancel until tomorrow. Hopefully everything goes on as planned tomorrow because I am craving some shrimp. But since we didn’t go today I have time to go online and look at the menu so that I can be ready for tomorrow. Adios Amigos!

The Woman Warrior

Written By Maxine Hong Kingston

Retold By Arthurline Bowen

 “No Name Woman”

Chapter 1 (First page)

Maxine is a girl who has just reached puberty. Her mother sat her down to tell her about a very important story that most not repeats itself. Her mother tells her that it is a warning so that she too isn’t forgotten. What do you mean mom why would I be forgotten Maxine asked her mother. You’ll find out after I tell you the story. And her mom went on talking, this story is about your "No Name Aunt" her mother said. What my “No Name Aunt"? Was that her name Maxine asked, my Aunt name is no name? I don’t understand I’ve never heard about her before. Exactly her mother replied it’s because she has been forgotten. Why was she forgotten Maxine asked with curiosity. Her mother began to speak and than she stopped and said, this is a secret and must not be told to anyone else. Why are you talking about mom you are scaring me. This story is about premarital sex.

What? Just listen the no name aunt was your father's sister who committed suicide by jumping into the family well. Because of her forbidden behavior she was forgotten and the family acts as though she had never been born. What did she do so wrong to cause her to be forgotten by her own family Maxine asked, she had premarital sex. What exactly happen? That’s all you need to know her mother responded. Remember never to do something that is forbidden so that you too won’t be forgotten. Also remember, you must not tell anyone what I have told you her mother said as she walked away. Leaving Maxine with a lot of unanswered questions.

Betrayal Continued...

Omg he touched my face I’m hyperventilating like the guy of my dream is touching me. For a minute I lost all logic all I could think about was being with him. Everything around me just stop we were living in the moment. Then suddenly he kissed me and with out hesitating I kissed him back and with out thinking one thing led to another when I realized what I had done it was too late here I was in his bed. And if that wasn’t enough shock what happened next was.

There was a knock on his door and he answered who is it and to my surprise it was Amber’s voice. Here I am thinking omg what have I done, and please don’t let her come in here. And before I could even finish my thought the door swung open, have you seen Aman…da but before she could finish her sentence she had already seen me. Wow she said as she walked out the room and slammed the door. In that instant moment the feeling of remorse came over me. As I got dress I thought of all the possible ways I could apologize to her.  What would I say to her what can I say all these thoughts flooded my mind.

When I got downstairs she had already left so I called her phone but she did not answer. I texted and called some more but she did not answer for two days so I decided to go to her house instead. When I got to her house she told her little brother Todd to tell me that she wasn’t home. Although I knew she was there but didn’t want to talk to me I knew where she was coming from what I had done was completely wrong. So I left, from that day on and everyday after that I called and went over her house and everyday I got the same answer either she wasn’t home or she didn’t want to talk to me this went on until we went off to college.

Now it has been about two years and we’re here at our favorite spot but there’s something missing. Something very important, the relationship we once had. I’m truly sorry for what I did two years ago.  I know there’s nothing I can say that will explain my wrongful doing. All I can say is that I’m deeply sorry and if I could turn back the hands of time I would. And I wouldn’t have done what I did because losing my best friend because of a one-night stand is so not worth it. But I understand if you don’t want to be friends ever again I wont question you.

Betrayal

Posted by Arthurline Bowen in Storytelling - Chase on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 10:04 am
It happened a few years ago I can still remember like it was yesterday, Amber and I went to Shadow’s end of the year party, Omg it was so great everyone was dancing, drinking, and just having a ball; and I felt a little dizzy so I went upstairs to get away from all the ruckus that was going on, an hour later I heard footsteps and when I looked up it was him, are you ok he asked me, I feel much better now I replied, In my head I’m thinking omg shadow is here with me like we’re alone in a room like omg, I know you are wondering like who the hell is Shadow and why am I acting the way I am, well how can I put it, Shadow is like the most popular guy in SLA like every girl who’s a somebody wants to be with him even the nobodies wants to be his girlfriend, so now you know why I’m tripping but the problem is he’s Amber ex and she’s my best friend so I can’t like him, but the truth is I’ve been in love with Shadow ever since the first day of freshman year, when he was walking down the hall I got one glimpse of him and that was it, I was love struck, anyways he was never interested in me at least that’s what I thought until a few minutes ago when he told me that I was pretty and touched my face.

Beautiful single ladies raise it up,

Women like me flaws and all listen,

Don’t lie almost doesn’t count,

Say goodbye before he cheats.

Free yourself move on.

Truth is if this isn’t love

I want to know what love is.

I would rather just stand up,

You are not alone I cam with you,

Miss Independent.

The storm is over take a bow,

Wining women live your life just the way you are.
