In the Time of the Butterflies:

   •    Political commitment to overthrow the goat made by the 4 sisters

   •    MIS shown dishing out severe punishment

   •    Minerva went to school

   •    Sinitta the first Minerva encounters of someone speaking badly about the goat

   •    One of Minervas friends taken by Trujillo for sexual acts and then exiled

   •    Minerva is being courted by Trujillo

   •    Minerva slaps Trujillo across the face!

   •    The sisters used the false name to identify themselves as "butterfly"

   •    Trujillo had Minerva's sisters executed publicly

   •    Trujillo disposes of all evidence making the deaths seen like an accident

   •    So much death and violence

   •    Complete destruction of a country by one man

Quotes from the feast of the goat:

  •    “The Chief’s limousine pulled away leaving him in the stinking mud hole, General Jose Rene Roman was trembling from head to toe, like the soldiers he had seen dying of malaria... He waited for the trembling to pass before walking to San Isidro Air Base. The guard on duty was shocked to see the head of the Armed Force appear on foot covered in mud.”

   •    “Abduct him? That’s bullshit! As long as he’s alive nothing will change. You have to kill him”

   •    "Nothing that a man has been, is, or will be, is something he has been, or will be forever, rather, it is something he became one day and will stop being the next"

   •    "I am writing out of civic duty to protest the affront to Dominican citizens and to the unrestricted freedom of expression which the government of General Trujillo guarantees this republic."

   •    ''He had more or less all the common traits of a Latin American dictator, but pushed to the extreme. In cruelty, I think he went far far away from the rest -- and in corruption, too.''

   •    “But all of them had to confront two closely linked problems: how to conjure up an evil that had once grown in intensity and pervasiveness until it became almost unutterable; and more generally, how to incorporate into a fictional structure such a well-known and infamous man without simply rehashing the archives of history.”

Quotes from my own work:

   •    "He turned an accomplished boxer and award winning courageous military leader into a sniveling child left in the mud to walk back to base after being beat."

   •    "I think this book speaks volumes about the power of one man, the power of death, and the power of liberty."

   •    "Urania speaks of a man thankful for the rule of the goat, for putting the Haitians in their place and bringing them into a modern era."

   •    "This concept was interesting, the people had been oppressed for so long that they were happy with this dictator"

   •    "Urania reveres the men who fought against his dictatorship and say they were few and far between."

   •    "Trujillo has kept up his image even through these times of political crimes, and why the people have yet to revolt. I'm hoping the more modern perspectives bring answers to this."

Reese family chicken noodle soup recipe -

1 whole onion sliced

3 stalks of celery chopped

3/4 cups of carrots chopped

1 pound of Boneless skinless trimmed Chicken Thigh sliced

10 cups of water poured

2 large russet potatoes halved

2 Table Spoons of parsley poured

1/2 bag of Pennsylvania Dutch yolk free home style ribbon noodles poured

1/2 tea spoon of salt poured

1 teaspoon of pepper. poured

1 table spoon of oil

2 tons of love

1 ton of caring

3 cups of Secret Reese Family Ingredients

Directions: Lightly brown chicken thighs in vegetable oil... Add two stalks of celery and one onion quartered. Cover with water. Let simmer for one hour. Remove from heat. Place a strainer into a large pot and place cheesecloth in the bottom of the strainer. Pour contents of pot into the stainer. Remove chicken. Break chicken into small pieces- remove as much fat as possible. In a clean pot, add a small amount of oil ( just enough to coat the bottom of the pot) add 3 stalks of chopped celery, one chopped onion, and carrots.  Place a fresh piece of cheesecloth into a strainer and strain the broth again back into the pot to cover the simmering vegetables. Add the chicken, potatoes, additional water. When boiling- add noodles and parsley and cook for 7 min. Salt and pepper to taste, and add love and care along the way.

All of the ingredients aside from the chicken, oil, salt, pepper, and noodles are all natural straight from the farm to the store about  45% of the ingredients are processed. One serving is about 240 calories containing about .23 grams of sugar, 1.3 grams of total fat. The body is actually nourished greatly by authentic pennsylvania dutch soup, my mom says that traditionally the dutch grow all of the ingredients and that it is used to cure several ailments of the body and soul. The body is not labored by the digestion process due to the low sugar and fat content of the soup, if you cut out salt and pepper it makes the dish healthier but I season to taste. All of the ingredients are either extremely low in sodium and fat or all natural and our bodies are meant to digest it, living in an urban environment it is hard to acquire fresh ingredients for some parts of the recipe. The meal is actually a poor mans meal meaning it can be eaten everyday and sustain the person without causing bodily harm of course if all the ingredients are kept natural as they are supposed to. I wouldn't even know where to start guessing where the ingredients were grown, probably rural states like Ohio and Idaho. I think the salt traveled the furthest, there are no foreign ingredients so probably less than 2,000 miles. The vegetables were not organically grown although traditionally they should be all naturally grown. The price of the soup was under 10$ to make including the cost of using the stove. Of course corporations can do this on a larger scale and for less money but my families soup tastes far superior because there is one ingredient that is special to mine, love.

My role in the larger food system is to balance the ecosystem by making sure to eat the things that reside lower in the food chain. As a human I am at the top of the food chain and my responsibility is to hunt and eat.  The biggest problems with our food system is that we over consume proteins and starches which leads to a unhealthy and unbalanced diet that causes diseases of the body due to dietary unhealthiness. We need to switch to eating more natural and energy efficient food such as vegetables and fruits.  I could cut sodas, sugars, caffeine, fast food, and other heavily processed and unhealthy food.  The impact of these changes would probably make my heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys healthier. I am not willing to make these changes.

Ethan Reese: Process Paper

Posted by Ethan Reese in English 3 - Pahomov on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 8:51 pm

The process of designing my part of the project was actually one of the more successful parts of my duty to the group, I felt that my shirt design was simplistic and a great way to get the important information out and than if people wanted to know more they could as me about it. I also played one of the biggest roles in the design of how we would present ad pull all of our parts together, I feel that also the design and flow of this presentation was also a above average. Even those these parts were very successful in my opinion the design of both had some problems, a couple of the slides on the presentation were boring and bland for the first and second draft but on the third draft I had finally gotten it just right. The design of the shirt was also flawed because it was mainly designed in a box which made it hard to transfer to a t-shirt.

The production of my product wasn't difficult but rather tedious, I had ordered the customized t-shirt that hadn't come in the mail which was a real disappointment because I was excited to see peoples thoughts on it.

Finally the implementation of my product into the overall project was simple considering it was just showing the designs on the shirt in a slide show presentation, but a challenge of presenting to like this I think was the loss of a wow factor throughout the presentation.

Stoppler, Melissa. "Obesity (Weight Loss) Content."Obesity Symptoms. Medice Net, 7 18 2012. Web. 14 Feb 2013. <http://www.medicinenet.com/obesity_weight_loss/page2.htm

This source talks about health problems with putting on too much weight, and how obesity can affect the body. The facts given from this website that we used were, deaths per year related to obesity, how common is obesity in America, and other life threatening illness that obesity makes you more susceptible to. The three facts we pulled were “The prevalence of obesity in children has increased markedly, with approximately 20%-25% of children either overweight or obese.” , “In the United States, roughly 300,000 deaths per year are directly related to obesity, and more than 80% of these deaths are in patients with a BMI over 30.”  , “A prospective study found that the risk of developing coronary artery disease increased three to four times in women who had a BMI greater than 29.”.

This source talks abouts Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move Campaign, the campaign is focused on getting kids to eat healthy and become more active through exercise. Direct facts we pull from this is the first ladies worry that most children won’t reach a healthy BMI by the time they are adults. The source goes onto talk about how they enforce the thin ideal, that they just encourage kids to be more active and healthy.

Dr, Gary. "Obesity History." The History of Obesity Timeline. HistoWiki, 11 12 2012. Web. 14 Feb 2013. <http://histowiki.com/2244/history/obesity-history-timeline/>.

This source is a rough timeline of how obesity has been effected as time has progressed, for example many of the points we take talk about, the increase in obesity over the last couple years that has been caused by new supplements that are cheaper and more unhealthy. We also talk about the increase in average calorie consumption due to unhealthy foods being more available.

This source talks about precautions and counteracting actions you can take against obesity, many of the suggestions from this source are used to show how we can fix the problem. It also gave us many data points and trend standards that we use to confirm points.

This website presented a different view on my topic. Instead of a negative view towards obesity, this article supports that the obesity rate is actually falling in some cities. For example New York reported that their obesity rate had fallen by 5.5 percent in 2011. I will mention that some cities have falling rates of obesity. Doing so will make my project 3-D in a sense two sides are represented.

I loved how this site wasn’t just one person talking about their view of obesity, but it is a site where many other websites and sources are represented. A variety of programs and events are all over this page. This gives me an idea of who is involved with the obesity problem, and what programs are being set up to treat it. This source provided a unique dimension of my project and I will use it in my presentation.

This Pdf provides an in depth reasoning for the obesity epidemic in Philadelphia. The explanations are accompanied with helpful graphs and charts. For example, one graph uses color and a map of Philadelphia to color code where obesity is most prominent. I also found that obesity has tripled in the last 20 years in Philadelphia. This source was very good, and I can use many aspects of it in my project.

Interviews:

Mrs. Martin

Do you feel there have been more obese or overweight kids in the past few years?

“In the city of Philadelphia yes, it is increasing at a surprising rate, however with new programs the number is starting to deteriorate.”

Have you seen more health related issues involved with being overweight in this school?

“In my health classes, I have Q&A’s where many students ask about problems with there body everyday that is caused by poor dieting.

Is there something in this school, or schools in the Philadelphia area in general that could be contributing to overweightness in teens.

“Most kids don't have controlled eating habits and tend to overeat, or under eat and fill up on junk food”

Mrs. Kelly
Do you feel there have been more obese or overweight kids in the past few years?
“I’ve been seeing more and more kids who are overweight, yes. That doesn’t mean they are unhealthy though.”

Have you seen more health related issues involved with being overweight in this school?
“Over the past couple of years, I have seen more overweight kids, and many of them have asthma.”

Is there something in this school, or schools in the Philadelphia area in general that could be contributing to overweightness in teens.
“The schools lunches are pretty bad. They don’t have a lot of nutrition in them. Ms. Martin counteracts that with her gym class.”

Nurse Kelly was a good source in general. From the questions I asked her, I was able to see the opinion of someone who is involved with conditions in teens everyday. Unlike websites she could really tell me the truth from her first hand experiences, not just statistics.

Ethan Reese 6/4/12

Mr. Block is my english and world history teacher he taught us many units over my sophomore year. However, one has sat with me to this day. This unit was learning and discussing the power of language. One quote of mine that really stuck out from my Language autobiography is one that I stated as one of my general understandings. “Language is the most powerful tool in the human’s arsenal.”

This is something I contemplated for hours upon, language is the most powerful tool in the human’s arsenal, I repeated it to myself over and over. Until I finally understood what it meant to me, it meant that language has the most effect on humans and our cultures. It meant that language was the most powerful weapon with the strength to bring the largest army to its knees or, it could heal a culture and reinvigorate its people, had the power to turn men to immortals. Language is not something good or bad, it all has to do with how you use this weapon of mass destruction.

A quote that connects this idea of language holding an all mighty power would be          “Language is the first step into a culture”*. This statement is saying that language has the power to introduce you to a culture and by entering that culture opens your eyes to a whole new world. One of the things we seek in this life is diversity, we want to learn as much as we can and one of the best way to do this is language immersion. People use language to relate with each other and create relationships. Without language we would be babbling mindless bodies wandering through life alone.

A second proof of general understanding is a quote from my language autobiography, “Language is the world’s greatest treasure and its greatest curse”. This quote was something I had strung off of my first quote “Language is the most powerful tool in a human’s arsenal”. What this meant to me was that language has the potential to do great things, I could not imagine life as being an illiterate. All of my friendships I have ever had have come through the connection of a shared language. However it is a curse to the world, people have caused war, famine, and inequality in this life by using language. I do not find language to be something good or bad, I do find it to be an important part of human cultures.

My last proof of general understanding is a quote from my grandfather “Language has the power to start or stop wars, to have one nation silenced or have them all shout out at the same time”. This spoke to me and I knew I had to use it for something I just never knew what, it ties directly in with my general understanding. What this really means is sort of like every quote I have been using that language is a double edged sword that can persecute and destroy or repair and unionize. In this quote he is saying that language can bring peace between nations and end conflicts or one insult spoken through this language can cause an uproar between two nations.

Language is a hard thing to comprehend, some imagine a world without language to be a good thing, they see it as inequality will dissipate and conflict will cease to exist. However they do not see the flip side of that coin, that a world without language would be a world of brutes and barbarians being uncivilized and unorganized. So for as of now I have learned a world of language is a world ten fold better than a world without.

My second general understanding comes from an assignment meant for the book night I changed it around a little to make it a statement more than a thought. GU (power changes everything?)

“Power leads to one of two paths, the first being a path to enlightenment and an age of prosperity in the world. This path is the path of equality and justice, the second path leads you to war and hate. This path is what causes inequality and poverty in the world and sadly is the path most followed”.

This quote I feel has been one of my better pieces of writing, a very similar quote came from the same paper. “Power is a double edged sword, that either is used as a tool for justice or inequality.”. In this quote I use an old proverb of something being a double edged sword, meaning that both ends do something. I translated it into power which in this quote meant that power does one of two things makes the world a better place or on the flipside makes the world a worse place. What this quote really meant to me was that, looking at dictators and rulers from the past people notorious for abusing or rightfully using their power. We can really get insight into what power really is and look at how our different systems work.

A second quote I used came from a game I play, Fable. The game is about being a ruler and making choices that lead you to power, and how you use that power to be good or evil. “Power does not just belong to the powerful, but to all. The powerless just forget just how powerful one child, woman, or man can be. This realization is what causes either peace or violence amongst a civilization.”. This quote is something that I never thought much of until one day when I was playing it and it hit me this has to be in my paper. What this quote really means is that the people in power abuse their power because no one else steps up to oppose or up hold their promises. This ties in with modern day government and about how there are a lot of people in power that are corrupted and make the world an unequal place. Which we discussed amply in Mr.blocks classes.*

Overall this year has taught me many things but the lessons that have stuck with me the most, are discussion of power and language. This is why I chose to use these for my general understanding. I really hope that this shows what my year has been like with my English and World History teacher Mr.Block.

History Journal 31 - Ethan

1. History Journal 31 “The world is just“ - In this journal Mr.block gave us a cartoon that showed three fish: 1 was extremely small and has a bubble saying “There is no justice in the world”, the next was a bigger fish saying “There is some justice in the world”, last there is a fish that is bigger than both of them saying “The world is just”. In this journal we had to discuss the meaning of the cartoon, which was of course the richer and more powerful you were, the more justice there was in the world and the poorer and less powerful you were, the less justice there was in the world. Than he had us add something to the cartoon that would change the message in some way, shape, or form. I added a large ship on the water and labeled it “U.S.S Economy” and current running through the ocean that was labeled “Consumer Current”. The consumer current represented U.S consumers and that it controlled how the fish acted and moved, the large fish could finally catch the littler fish with that little extra push from the consumers. Than the economy ship represented the U.S economy and it had a large fishing net dropping down on all the fish but the big one. This represented that the economy only leaves the larger fish to keep feeding in the ocean.

2. History Journal 10 - “What is religion?” - In this journal Mr.block left us with the simple question of what is religion? I had a difficult time answering this because my initial response was... God. However I realized this was not an answer he was looking for I thought of what it means to me to be religious. I said that “ Religion is a belief in a higher power which you put your complete faith into. Than he asked us his next question which was “Is religion a good thing or a bad thing?”. My answer to this was again hard to understand. “ Religion is one of the biggest causes of war, kings, dictators, and “messiahs” have used religions as excuses to kill millions of people and claim these acts in the name of a higher power. It has related to plagues, cruelty, and malice. At the same time though religion inspires great works of art, it gives people hope in a life after life and makes them feel connected with other believers from all around the world.” So for this journal I could not decide if religion was a good thing or a bad thing.

3. English Journal 26 -  “Language and Domination” - The journal started with a quote “Starting me into awareness of the link between language and domination”. Previous in class I discussed about the idea of that words are the most powerful weapon in a humans arsenal. Our tongues are sharper than any sword, and more explosive than any gun, or explosive device. In this I said “ The more education a society has the more developed they become, without language the world would be a scary place. Instead of using words to solve problems democratically and not use war to do this. Language is more powerful than anything else.”.

The assignment was to make a guide to the city of Philadelphia, for toursits to come to Philadelphia. We decided to make a website and highlights places in Philadelphia that they should visit and go. I learned Philadelphia isn't as exciting as I thought it doesn't have a lot to do. I feel fine about the final product we all worked hard the only thing that was less than par is the homepage. If I could do this all over I would defiantly make it clear to people to put there stuff on the google doc earlier.

The project was to make a video or comic shpwing how we start and do during our day and describe it in spanish.

What I learned doing this is how long my day actually is, and how to use words in spanish to describe time, schedules, actions, new ways of conjugating, rules and helpful cheats to make it easier to remember. I had a better understanding of using Imovie at the end of this project and learned how much I actually repeat steps in a day like how many times I brush my hair or shower. Overall I got a better hold on the spanish language.

Copper

The project was to write a story about a struggle that had to do with you and language. Your overall goal was to link your story to a larger Idea about how language is power or other themes of language. My theme was about how when you take a persons voice away you’re taking away so much more, and there were parts that were easy but parts that I had to struggle. One of the parts that were easy for me was conveying a message about how easy it is to lose your confidence and all social life if your voice is repressed enough. Something I struggled with was trying to remember more than two times that my voice had been repressed, and how to describe the scenes I could only remember a little. What I learned from doing this project was how every language and every voice is important to someone else, imagines all the things that would have happened if historical people didn’t speak out. I can truly say I have a better understanding of language.

II. Ethan Reese                                                                         12/19/11
Copper
Language is something that can be learned and unlearned, it is a physical and mental thing. You can learn a language through a physical environment like when you’re around people who constantly speak the language or through a mental environment, where you’re being taught a language like Spanish class. Where you learn or unlearn the language doesn’t matter both ways are effective, I have always been a physical environment learner.

My family is overpowering in most senses of the word, as a kid I was usually talked over by most of my family, and left out of conversations because I couldn’t speak German. The only one who would take the time to listen to me was my mother, so that’s who I learned how to speak and act the way I do.

My mom again growing up in a German household spoke German and English she proceeded to be just as overpowering and leaving me out spoken as the rest of my family. So I was always shy in middle school. I was the kid who sat their and talked to his two or three friends and did his work up until 6th grade, this is when I really think I found my voice. For some reason it seemed to be an instant switch in my family that they stopped speaking German around me and started talking in all English when I was around which gave me the courage I needed to go to school and be more vocal and find a voice that worked for me.

The first day In my new school 6th grade I decided that I was going to speak out and be heard by everyone and everyone I could, but I spoke so proper and neat tight English. When they spoke in dialects and slang that I didn’t understand. Even to this day I didn’t understand it, so I had to learn to talk like they did I started picking up slang and ways of talking around them and than at my home I switched back to speaking proper. It was a balance not easily kept in both groups the other slang and dialect popped out and I hoped they wouldn’t notice. I kept this act up as long as I could, but it got tiring of being two people all the time, I had to find a voice that could fit me but everyone could understand. So I set out on my quest to find my perfect voice.

Of course I couldn’t just change my slang and voice in one day I had to try thousand’s of different ways of talking, Southern, Ghetto, Proper, even trying to do impressions but none of them worked for me I went back to being that quite kid in school who all he did was work.

My teacher confronted me about it and asked me if their was something wrong. I replied saying “ Mr. Q. I’m so confused its so tiring pretending to be two different people when I go home I put on my good little boy talking proper act, but than whve to change my voice back to talking like the rest of the class. I can’t decide which to keep and which to get rid of please help”.

He said to me “ Ethan, I can’t tell you to speak in a way that represents you. I can set you on the path to it though. When you talk inside of yourself how do you talk when you think how do you think. These are the things that make your speech pattern, I can’t teach you how to think any the less more than how to talk, I can teach you the words but the rest is up to you”

I realized how right he was, my voice isn’t something that can be learned or unlearned it’s something that is forever existing inside of you, it is your thought it is your attitude, it is who you are. My voice was found and ever since than I have never had a loss of words, I have never been talked over, and I promised my self my identity would never change again just like my voice.

So that brings us to present day, my family listens to my thoughts and feelings even though I don't speak German and I’m confident enough to overpower their voices, as for my friends I have ones now that understand what I’m saying in my own voice. I now have a deeper understanding that language is identity it shows who you are under all your layers it is how you talk and form your self, I can truly say I have found my Identity... I can say I have found my voice.

 SIGNING OFF FROM TEXAS U

( Student at Texas university majoring in economics uncertain about the tar sands making a third blog video about the tar sands )

Hi, this is my third video blog this month regarding the tar sands XL pipeline, I have been unemployed for almost two years now. (pause) My whole life my family has struggled with money, (rub eye) and I always wanted to go to my dream college Texas U. With no money and no where to get it I had to work twice as hard as other kids in school did, but now I’m sitting here in my dorm at Texas U doing this blog. When the professor gave my class this project he suggested I should look into the tar sands XL pipeline and tell him my thoughts on it. From what I understand the pipeline will be carrying 56,960,000 dollars worth of oil a day and the profit will be made on day 123 which is relatively fast compared to the 7 billion dollars that are being put into the project. My father a highly renown high-school engineering teacher and grandfather one of the heads of the project got the company to give me a job offer. I have been unemployed for two years and on a resume this job would look amazing the job would keep me employed for at least four years. But I grew up in a house with some of the greatest minds in the world and they taught me everything has a price and i think this pipeline is going to have a steeper price than 7 billion dollars. I think that the release of these tar sands will cause a domino effect ultimately coming back to bite us in the butt, once the climate becomes unable to ignore than the real price of the pipeline will become obvious. I studied economics to become a CFO of a company like Trans Canada, if their was ever a opportunity to make that dream come true it is this. The thing I guess I’m most afraid of is being used as a scape goat in case this project just doesn’t turn the overall profit. I feel like i  should say no to the job this oil is dirtier than  normal oil it’s twice  as harmful I know what the repercussions of releasing it is, but this job is well paying low hours and a way  to get my foot in the door with larger companies. I’m against this  100 percent but i cant let my family down i cant let my professor down...(sigh and turn from camera ) i cant  let myself down. I cant pass this up ( Pause as you  hear sound of a watch ) Until next time  this is Robert Walsh signing off from  Texas U ( Give two finger salute sign off ).

 THE FACE OF OIL

Oil...  the blood of America, the blood of money. To answer your  question directly you must understand oil’s place in global economics... oil is the greatest money maker the modern world may ever encounter. It is traded, sold, bought by the tons it is a trillion dollar industry that i being a former CEO of BP know the ins and outs of. Let me take you into the mind of the CEO of trans Canada, right now he is sitting on the largest source of oil known to current  date, with Canadas low reliance on oil they will turn the largest profit  this industry has ever seen by selling it to  countries with a high dependence on oil like the U.S, this is their plan. Moving through this pipeline everyday will be 800,000 barrels of oil a day to put that into a number that you will understand 56,960,000 dollars worth of oil a day flowing from Canada to Texas. This will only take 123 days to turn a profit on the 7 billion dollar investment, which is relatively fast given the  size of this project. Though i will play devils advocate the pipeline like any has the chance of a costly leak and a big spill or leak can cost big money, the  total loss of money during the BP oil spill was  12.5  billion dollars  in cleanup, repair, and the spilled  oil. So although the profit is coming  quick it could all be lost by  a major spill or leak, this isn’t a rare thing either on average a  pipeline leaks  12 times  a year. I see this as the push that might get us out of debt but might put us in debt  even further. I’ m all for the pipeline America was formed on a  gamble and that’s how we have to save it, i say take the risk its your  only  realistic option right now. So Obama i’m going to say this once and hope you listen approve the pipeline...

Just me

Just me

My life has always been interesting but one of the most interesting was a breezy autumn day filled with the smell and feel of fall, which made me excited for the upcoming holiday Halloween. But nothing was more exciting than what happened next. I approached my house climbing the concrete steps holding on to the cast iron railing, I brushed the bush and felt the dew of the freshly fallen rain that gave me goosebumps and made my arm smell like the car fresheners that are shaped like pine trees. I continued up the steps to hear the screams of my mom and sister. I ran up the rest of the steps to get to my door. I scrambled to get my key out to see what was happening.

I heard the squawking of a bird which made me stop to see where it was coming from i looked to the garden in front of my house the forest to the left to the skies to the bushes filled with berries.  But I didn’t see the bird so I unlocked the door and heard the key move the locking mechanism out of the way I swung the door open. To see the house torn apart with my mom running with a broom my sister with a towel that looked like their was blood stains on it. My cat was puffed up with his claws out crying and baring his teeth at a seagull trapped in the corner. Like the last kid in a game of tag.

I ran to get something to help but I didn't know what I scrambled into my room to see the TV smashed into thousands of pieces of metal and glass and plastic all over the place with drops of blood leading out of my room. The window was wide open with a cool breeze blowing in with the smells of fallen leaves and dying plants. My eyes dart quicker than a cheetah looking for something to trap the seagull with, I see my laundry basket tuned over on the floor. I tip-toed across the floor filled with blood and broken glass and grabbed the basket.

I ran back to the living room to see they still hadn't caught the source of the destruction and mayhem, so I charged at the winged beast and missed and ended up hitting the cat stand.

Finally my sister caught the bird and I got a close look at it and realized that it was as scared and confused as we were it hurt itself because i left the window open i could see the blood coming out of the bird and made me think if it would even survive i begged my mom to help it but she said their was nothing that we could do to help it. I met eye to eye with the foe that taunted me for so long and looked inside of it and saw not a creature bent on a structure but a scared child that just wanted to cry and scream but just couldn't.

I thought i saw a tear leave its eye but i couldn't tell for sure my sister threw it outside like trash i watched it squirm on the ground trying to get up and than i saw that little kid that just wanted to scream and cry but couldn't. I couldn't help but think if I would have done what I was told than the horrible tragedy that happened could have been avoided.

Soon after this my vacation started and the thought of that poor bird being thrust into the situation that i caused was still in my head it would be nice to go somewhere to try to forget about the whole thing. We arrived at DC and the first thing I wanted to see was the Lincoln memorial because to me the mans idea out grew the man and i don't think the memorial is to remember Abraham Lincoln I think its to his idea of equality and fairness in a world that didn't accept you because of the littlest things. He is truly one of the greatest men in history who’s ideas and name will live forever, he shaped the way i want to live my life and how i live my life. I never once discriminated against someone because of something they couldn't control, and to this day i really wish that everyone could do what Abraham Lincoln did one-hundred years before anyone would have even thought of having the same rights as a white man.

I think this is something that we as Americans really take for granted and we don't respect what the man stood for and who he really was. When i told this to my mom she thought i was just saying stuff so we would go their first but she didn't understand that my words were spoken from the heart not the mouth.

So we went to her places first, the first place we visited was the Washington DC zoo, where we wasted our time in our nations capital i could see lions tigers and bears at any zoo but their was only one Lincoln memorial i kept trying to explain this but i was shutdown over and over again.

Than we went to lunch where i found myself eating something called a gooey duck which had the flavors of a rotten fish and oranges.

But finally the memorial was on our agenda i walked up the cool shining steps leading to the man who influenced my life and philosophy. I stood at his gigantic feet if his body was any representation of his ideas than my respect and admiration of the man and his ideas were well earned. I stood their and just appreciated the man who started it all the father of freedom, and made me resolve my problems with what happened with bird if it was alive and healthy it was free and if it was dead than it was free from all mortal boundaries.
