  • My vision was for people to use dance to express themselves for when times get rough or when they just wanna let all their feelings out. First, I taught at my dance school Philly Movements Dance Company to kids ages 2-6. I taught ballet, tap, jazz, and tumbling. This was an experience that opened my eyes to dance. I learned that no matter what age you are dance helps you develop the type of person you are. Looking at the kids beautiful faces every Saturday was not easy because I had to deal with the screaming, crying, and the “ I want my mom” statement.  Then I created a mini course for the students at my school so that they would have a outlet. This mini course was so much fun. I may have screamed at them and told them that I was done but in reality I couldn’t just give up in them. I told them about all the problems that I was having leading up to the final performance. I learned that when trying to put on a show it would cause so many challenges and I would have to talk to adults about how everything would work out. They performed at the BSU 2nd Annual Gala which was a success. Future Advice for upcoming seniors, Use your resources to the best of your ability because the school, family and friends will be your guidance and help.

How to play:

  1. This Game is for 3 to 9 people.

  2. Shuffle the Resources deck, every player grab two cards

  3. Players should keep the cards that they have (Resource deck) to themselves unless they decide before the first Direction card is chosen that they would like to play as a team with up to one other player. If two players decide to become a team they will have to share their cards from the Resource deck throughout the entire game.

  4. The first player or team rolls the set of dice, they then to pick out that same number of cards from the Directions deck, read the last card from you choosing and put the other cards back in the deck

  5. Players follow the directions on the cards and complete the actions.

  6. The game continues with each player/team picking cards from the Direction pile.

  7. The game is over when there are no more Direction cards

  8. Whoever is holding the fire card from the Resources deck is declared the winner

  9. If a player runs out of Resources cards while the game is still being played they have “died” and are out.


Rationale:

In the novel The Road, Cormac Mccarthy uses many items to represent the connections between survival and perseverance. Our game “Who's Safe” will makes the connection from the novel to tell the story in a new format. There are two different decks that are used, one is the Resource deck that contains item that the farther and son frequently came across like food or drinks or virtues that were important like dreams. One example novel resource that was used by the man to help the boys survival was the shopping cart. They use the shopping cart to carry useful items which help them throughout the novel. The direction gives a guide to hopefully help the players survive just like the road. The Road was used to give a guide the boy to safety and left the man to die. The dice are used to help the player collect as many cards which would help them move toward safety.

Throughout the novel the man is often seen dreaming about terrible situations but his dreams do vividly link him back to the life he once knew. When elaborating about the dreams and their place he said, “He mistrusted all of that. He said the right dreams for a man in peril were dreams of peril and all else was the call of languor and death. He slept a little and he slept poorly. He dreamt of walking in a flowering wood where birds flew before them he and the child and the sky was arching blue but he was learning how to wake himself from just such siren worlds.” (Page 18)

This is why we chose dreams as a survival mechanism because they can keep the player sane and in this case alive in the game.

Rap Vs. Actions

Rap is a genre of music that expresses its passion through  struggle. Artist today more than likely talk about how they have been through a lot. This type of music is listened to so much because of the  relateable lyrics and how overplayed it is on the radio for teens today. This is also the reason why rap gives off an negative vibe from children today. The most popular artists talk about violence, drugs, sex, and their struggles. Rap music has one of the strongest influences on younger generations because it’s  impressionable and struggle to differentiate between the utilization of trends for entertainment and actually participating in trends that can be harmful.

Teens today listen music that could influence the way they act when in danger. According to Nakia Jackson from Livestrong it states, “ Rap lyrics may discuss violence as a part of an exciting and dangerous lifestyle, but some songs condemn violence and even propose solutions.” This quotes shows that lyrics in a song could possible affect the way a child behaves. This is because the lyrics that artist use could are about where the artist grew up. The phrase “ dangerous lifestyle, but some songs condemn violence” shows that there are songs that a made that condemns violence which is listened to why the younger generations of children. This could affect how their lives are lived because some of these artist are role models for kids today. But what the artist actually never realizes is that the words they say are the actions that the younger children are taking to follow in their footsteps.

Rap music has been an issue in students’ everyday life, such as school, their emotions and the way they act towards adults. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics it states, “Research on popular music has explored its effects on schoolwork, social interactions, mood and affect, and particularly behavior. The effect that popular music has on children's and adolescents' behavior and emotions is of paramount concern. Lyrics have become more explicit in their references to drugs, sex, and violence over the years, particularly in certain genres.” This quote shows how the most recent and popular music affects students in their everyday lives, such as when a kids decides to make a bad decision. This could be a reason as to why students express their non-care  for school or anything, due to artist lyrics. This could also be because they don’t care about the actions. The lyrics of the songs are becoming problematic to why kids are using reckless language. The phrase “Lyrics have become more explicit in their references to drugs, sex, and violence” shows how music impacts what kids are doing in life today. It's not only the lyrics but the videos and the messages the artist tries to get across to the world impacts the behavior that goes on. Kids today think if this artist can do it and get away with it away can’t they do it too.

Rap music has given kids today a voice that can be heard in many ways. This genre of music speaks loud for it self because of how rap music started. Rap influence people to do different thing each day some could be positive but because of how the music is written by the artist it makes kids do things so differently. Rap influences younger kids because of how the music is portrayed by the role models they look up too.

     The Taming of the Shrew has a desire to show you different relationship styles. One of the Main characters in this play was named Petruchio. He was the man who knew how to use clever words to get women. There is also Kathrine who was married to Petruchio, she was not always interested in him. Later on Petruchio tame Katherine into the women he wanted her to be. What Happens In Vegas has a comedy based laugh and keeps you wanting to wonder if relationships are like theirs.  There are two main characters, Joy and Jack they both were in Vegas. They got drunk and woke up married. Joy character is happier but she can be feisty if she wanted. Then Jack is a man who is all about the women and sport who lives an average man life. Both pieces demonstrate the conflict between the ideal way to develop a relationship against how relationships often realistically develop, and how the expectations of an ideal relationship are out of reach.

       This was a scene where Petruchio and Hortensio made a deal to see who would could use this woman. Society would look at this and believe that relationship today come about because of bets that friends make with each other. This could also show you how relationship could be taken as a game and not actually a real life problem. Boys could look at this a being a player and girls could look at this as getting played. This shows you that the development of relationship are based upon other people that are not in a relationship.



        In this scene from What happens in vegas it portrays to society that love is just something that comes with luck. The couple is showing that marriage can come easy and it doesn’t take long to do. This couple was just sitting in a bar, than waking up the next morning marriages. This shows to society that love is drug that can make you do crazy thing and regret it later. Love is a symbol to how the people in the society should look at it, which then later on makes the audience struggle with how a relationship is supposed to be developed

    In the Taming of the Shrew this was a scene that showed of petruchio actions toward Katherine after they got marriage. He started to control her by telling her what she could wear and what she couldn’t wear. This is showing to society that when a man does not like what you wear or what you are doing they have a say so in how they could change it. This could lead to why women began to feel insecure about themselves. This could also be a reason on why men have the mindset if one can do it then why can’t I.

      In this scene Jack is talking about Joy is trying to be so perfect but in reality he never was perfect for him. Society men would look at this as if men are supposed to talk women as jokes. Men is the society could began to believe that this is how you are to treat a girl when it comes to her feelings and how she cares. This is teaching that girls are not [perfect and guys they will never be so this movie does a bad job at portray how a guy should look at a female. It’s as if a girl is not perfect for you then he's not perfect at all.

       In conclusion to this relationships are looked upon differently in many ways. Movies and books could give a general impression on how a person should feel about it but it never actually tells you how to feel. Society are always watch the the actors and authors to see how they would describe the best development for how a relationship should be. This is why both pieces demonstrate the conflict between the ideal way to develop a relationship against how relationships often realistically develop, and how the expectations of an ideal relationship are out of reach.

Unwilling to Tell

Over the course of life I really just struggle with death. Life has became a stress. Its like im dealing with a fight over and over again. Death is a rocky point, I just been dealing with this for a while. Funeral after funeral just waiting to know when will it stop. No beating or hearing is the only thing that was going through my body when I get announcements that I have l lost one. Death has impacted my life so much that I am lost when I just think about anything else. The thought of it changes my life for the better and not for the worst. I feel so empty. Emptiness is where i feel the most useless and worthless in this world. How come I can’t get a break you may wonder. Well it’s because I been struggling with death my whole life.

     On July 4th blood rolled from his head and nose, As his friend in the car is gasping for air. All you hear is a loud siren noise heading towards the car. Reporting live from north philadelphia area. There are two men right now that was rushed to the hospital in cruidel conditions. I lost my favorite uncle in the whole wide world, this had a huge impact on how i live my life today. I really celebrate on the 4th of july just so that it feels like he is still here with me. He passed away on july 2 and his birthday was the 4th of july. I sat and cried and cried. Screaming and screaming as the family mourned all together. Thats my bestfriend I said to my dad as he than thought about how this would affect me the most. My dad just thought about how would the family work as one again because he was the life and the support of us. As we was watching the news that night, it appeared on the news channel:

   Reporting live from the scene where this car as hit a tree. The two men are in the hospital but we just got word that either one of them made it. Shawn Carter and Greg ford. My grandmother passed out and we couldn’t do anything but give her time to really think and process what happened in this moment. The doctors room was filled with puddles of water and heartbreak.

        We really enjoyed each other time and we loved to hang out as a family. This was one of my favorite things to do I just really enjoyed every moment with him. We spent basically every weekend together because I just loved being around him. I really just got stuck on what to write so that's all i can say right now. We use to have fight parties at my house. We would go out and celebrate on the 4th of july. We was always the party type. I love the way that my relationship is with him. He makes me so happy. We would go out to eat like every other weekend. I would think about all the good time every other weekend. We would go to Fridays every friday because that is my favorite place. I cried out. I really just loved when i seen him. He made me feel so happy. He was my favorite cousin. He was really the best. My family thought about how he was always the life of the party. When shawn came in that's when the party arrived. He would just make us all happy and thankful for living life to the fullest. We laughed as a family, we danced as a family, we even fought as a family but with when it was all said and done shawn was our rock and nobody in this world could change everything that he has did for us.

     This essay is hard for me to right because this is the most triggering spot in life. I really just think about this moment and these people everyday man. Everytime I think about this topic i get crushed and I feel like im a piece of cookies just crumbing to the ground. This topic is not something that I normally would express because i told myself that I would not keep letting people get into my personal life. But when the birthdays and the holidays come up I just can't stop thinking about them and everything they have ever did for me. I wish I could say i can’t wait for them to see me graduate. This has been a rocky road for me and I'm done with talking about this. I feel like my emotions are coming on very strong on i think about the goodness and what they have done for me over my life. If it wasn’t for the world and my family i don’t know where i would be today. This has been a emotional road but I am happy to say it is over and now I can move on and just think about how I know that he will always be here with me. I just think as for my family I have to be strong and I have to think about where my life can take me from here. This has been a very tuff topic for me and I hope you guys are all thankful for me sharing this.


Snapchat Vs Instagram By Kyianna Thomas

        There has always been a battle between how teens feel about social media. They want to know what is in and what is out. Teens around the world use social media to talk about what is ‘hot’, what is the new trend, or even what the new gossip is.This is turn helps the market of the respective social media networks in their quest to become  the most popular.There are two main sources that teens use: Instagram and Snapchat. Both claim much devotion and attention from teenage markets. However, when comparing the two, Snapchat’s popularity has overcome Instagram in previous years. Snapchat is the most popular social media app among teenagers because its efficiency and lack of required attention is compatible with the short attention spans and quick pace of teenagers and their interests.  
         According to Www.Statista.com teens around the world voted that Snapchat is the best social media by a slim margin. The statics show that according to test participants ages 13-24 who use these apps are, Snapchat  79%, Facebook  76%, and that Instagram 73%. This data is from February 2017. The site also states that “ Teenager spend nearly 200 minutes per day on their mobile devices.” Although not focusing on Snapchat specifically, this shows how significant technology is in this particular age groups’ lives. Whatever the individual teenager may be consuming, whether it is Snapchat, the news, Youtube, or other features, they are committing a significant amount of time to these interests through technology.               
         Teenagers have open minded opinions on how what they believe is the best app. So here is a student at Science Leadership Academy who feels heavily impacted about this topic. Eli is a reasonable source because he is a teenage who express his actually feeling on these to apps. He currently uses both apps but, he feels like one is better than the other. According to a teenager named Eli Z  he states, “ I believe Snapchat beats out Instagram due to their priority to be a direct messaging app first and a communal app second. Kids tend to use snapchat as a method of communication, like texting. Which relates back to my thesis because snapchat doesn’t show a lack in teens attention span but it shows a lack attention span when teens are on instagram.  Unlike Instagram which prioritizes the community over privacy.” In other words, Snapchat puts less pressure on teenagers to present their lives in a creative or appeasing way through a feed, as Instagram does. Instead, Snapchat presents a more laidback atmosphere so teenagers feel like they can be more of themselves. Not only this, but as mentioned earlier Snapchat is quicker and more efficient and is also an effective means of communication, whereas Instagram requires more effort and energy with its management. So Snapchat is just a camera where you hit a button so you can take a picture. You may also hold your screen and look a the different filter that they have on there too. You can snap a picture of yourself to a friend and it will go  directly to their phone.  As for Instagram you can  dm a person but you have to wait for them to dm you back. Not everybody gets direct notifications to there phone. The word dm means direct message. Now you can see that Snapchat is more realistic when it comes to communication unlike instagram.         
         When asked teenagers might say that social media is just a way to keep up with each other lives, but on closer inspection, teenagers really use it to communicate with each other and also to keep up with the new trend. This is because teens want to be up to speed with everything that is going on in this world. They want to know what is the best social media right now, so they can flock to whatever is hot. This could also explain why teenagers are always having polls on what social media is the best. Teens today around the world are heavily targeted towards Snapchat than Instagram.

  • What TV show did you watch in class?

  • Today in class we watched a show called Digital Nation.

  1. What was this show about?

  • Digital Nation was a show that shows the different ways to use the internet. It shows us all the ways the internet can be used. It was people of different ages using it and the dangers that it can come with.

  1. What is the most memorable thing to you about this show?

  • It's important to watch shows like this so it can teach you what not to do on the internet. It also shows you how to trust the internet when it comes down to online safety.

  1. How will you keep your future family safe online?

  • I will make sure that they are on websites i approve of. I will make sure that i have a code on my computer for the safety and for the websites they can not get on. I will also want access to there accounts for anything.

  1. Why is it important to talk with your family about internet safety

  • I think it's important so they don’t find anything online bad about you or about what websites you have been on. I really would just tell them not to trust the internet.

  1. What advice would you give to parents that don't know how to keep their children safe online?

  • I would tell them to just make sure you are mindful for what websites your child is on. Please make sure that they are being respectful online.

IF DANCE IS LIFE THEN MAKE IT COUNT!!!!!!!!
I chose to make my slide like this because if you have a passion for something then you should want to make it feel like this is the last time you can do it. This slide is very creative. I wanted this slide to show how I felt about dance because I know that there is someone out there there who is just like me. This really shows how much I love dance. I wanted to put the pictures of me in the background because of the modeling shoot I had. This is a young lady who have been dancing for 9 years and wanted to show you the type of pictures dancers can take. This influence me to write about dance because of all the years i have been doing it and i feel like this is now something that is apart of me. I want this slide to make you think of dance not just as different types of dance. You should think of it as a way you feel and can show who you are. Enjoy it. Today in class i watched a video about bullying. I had to google myself. I didn't know myself but it was good to see what others with my name did. This video makes me think of when other get bullied or picked on. Online i appear to be a beautiful young lady that likes to write books on wattpad and is really active in basketball for girls. I would think that people would think of me as a active human. They just want to make up things about you or talk bad about you. The positive results of being online is letting people know who you are and having them think good things about you. The negative results would be having a bad image on who you are and what people may think about you.
