You and the World
In depression, drug and or alcohol abuse is most commonly
found. By this teenagers, seem to run for it as a solution to their problems of
making them feel better. It also is like a friend that takes place of an adult
role model and if things like drinking and smoking are publicized on the
television, a teenager might think of that to help themselves, even if the
outcome leads to something bad.
Suicide shouldn’t be covered on the news, but since it is,
than its method shouldn’t be talked about. The location and few not very
detailed information should be given. This is because sometimes the information
told gives teenagers ideas of how they might want to harm themselves. Suicide
should be stopped because life is worth something to live for, every 15 minutes
someone commits suicide and at that rate it’s about 34,00 suicides a year. Some
should be done about this so I think teenagers, adults, and people of every age
who are going through depression and or are thinking about suicide should speak
up and reach out because someone cares.

This is last of 3 blog posts in my school project called "You and the World." I chose to research the Jasmine Revolution for this project, and I divided up my blog posts in the three main countries to revolt in this event. I started with Tunisia, where the entire revolution began. My second post was about Egypt, a more famous revolution, where the majority of people began to take interest in the revolution. In this last blog post I will write about the ongoing Civil War in Libya, between the rebels and the supporters of dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
Muammar Gaddafi took power in 1969 after the overthrow of King Idris I, and has maintained power by placing people from his tribe in positions of power in the government. The Civil War began with peaceful protests which started in February 15, and the protests quickly spread throughout the country. Gaddafi's response was censorship and military force, which caused the peaceful protests to escalate into an all out civil war. The rebels want take Gaddafi out of power, and hold democratic elections; while the supporters of Muammar Gaddafi are mainly from his tribe, and receiving special benefits from this.
The first place taken by the rebels was Benghazi, the second largest city in Libya. The conflict began 3 days after the protests, when security forces began firing live ammunition into the protests. A funeral procession went by the main government compound, and were shot at by security forces. They responded by attacking back, and eventually retreated. This happened two more times, and the third time a suicide car bomber destroyed the gates of the compound under cover of the funeral procession. Libyan rebels eventually took the compound, but to take the city hundreds of people died, including 130 soldiers who were executed when the refused to shoot at the protesters. This civil war is still happening, and the UN has declared a "no fly zone" over Libya, to prevent Gaddafi from using planes to kill rebels. The US has fired a missile into Libya, and there are UN troops there to prevent war crime.
There were protests in other countries, but Tunisia, Egypt, are the only places to have succeeded so far, and Libya is the only place where there has been an all out civil war. Only time will tell whether any other countries will join this movement, or whether Libyan rebels will succeed in overthrowing Muammar Gaddafi. This has been the final of my three blog posts on the Jasmine Revolution.
Through out my first blog I spoke of human trafficking and explained basic facts about it. After having a good a idea on what human trafficking was I wanted to get into depth with the United States and Human trafficking. How much is the U.S affected by it and what is the U.S doing to prevent it.
According to the Department of Justice it is estimated that 14,500 to 17,500 people, especially children and women are victims of Human Trafficking every year in the United States. It is known that Atlanta, Georgia has the highest rate of human trafficking with 200-300 exploited per month. TVPA (Trafficking Victims Protection Act) has concluded that there are 3 main ways to put this to a stop; public awareness, consultation, and economic alternatives. Public awareness will reach people across this globe. It is a form that if more people have more information on Human trafficking than there will be less people mindless to the situation. For consultation, non-governmental organizations will be contacted to enhance the idea of public awareness. Finally but not least is the economic alternatives. TVPA says that that economic deprivation is the main problem for human trafficking.
After researching about human trafficking in the United States I realized that we are affected by it as much as any other country. Up to 17,500 in the U.S is affected by this and half of that is children. I also noticed that the U.S has a big issue to be concerned about which is that children are being sold and most of them are used to prostitute but not only that, they get abused for not returning with the right amount of money from prostituting. The U.S should have a more powerful way to end this, because not only does it hurt to be a victim of human trafficking but it also hurts to know that you could be a victim of human trafficking.
Human trafficking should be more of an issue and should be spoken of more. Schools should inform their students about what's really going on in the world. To step out and see theres more than gossip to worry about. The media should grab the attention of people around the world and help decrease human trafficking. If one person knows, thats one less person to worry about. If we all knew how dangerous this is we would all be more vigilant. Not fall into the dirty tricks that traffickers use and be that one less person who outsmarted traffickers!

Prevention/How to be infected
Ways in which you can get infected with HIV/AIDS are by having unprotected sex with someone with AIDS, which is the most common way, blood transfusions, being born with it, dirty and unsanitary needles for example, a needle you found on the ground, and if one person with AIDS have a cut, and their blood touches your cut.
Since you do not know if a person has HIV/AIDS by just looking at them, its best to play it safe. Ways in which you can prevent HIV/AIDS are by having protected sex. You can greatly reduce your risk by using a latex or polyurethane condoms. Drugs could increase your risk of getting HIV. When using drugs, never have sex while your high because its easy to forget about safe sex, If you must use drugs never inject them, and if you must inject them, then never share the equipment you used such as the needles, syringes, cotton, and rinse water.
If you are pregnant you should get tested for HIV, just to be sure because if you do have HIV, then your infant could also get it during your pregnancy, breastfeeding, or during delivery. If you are helping someone and they are bleeding, try not to get their blood into any cuts or open sores you have, your mouth, or your eyes. If possible, you should wear gloves and protective eye wear because you will never know if they are infected or not.
I wonder what are the types of tests they run on HIV/AIDS patients. Are there many needles involved in the tests, is it just big machines you have to go into or lay on? In addition, what does HIV/AIDS do to people when they are infected with it?
Below are pictures of HIV cells.

Suicide is the leading cause of teenage deaths and more teenagers die
from it than cancer or any other serious disease. Every year suicide is planned
by over 2millions high students in the U.S. and 400 thousand of them attempt it
and need medical attention. These attempts are mainly made by gays, bisexuals,
and transgenders.
The rates of teen suicide are shown to have increased because of teen
suicide coverage by the media. Whites at 31% are shown to receive the most
treatment for suicidal cases, while blacks show only 22% and Hispanics show
only 14%. Some say it’s a racial issue that whites get the most help out of all
the other races, but others say its because they get the most attention from there
families. I say it all depends on how busy and loving your parents are,
they show you the most attention. If they noticed things different about you,
then they do their all to get you the help you need.

During
the past years many Natural
disasters has happen but the world became as one and helped each other
out. The
latest Natural
disasters that has happen was the tornado that had hit Tuscaloosa, Al
and the
places around. It wen close to the south of Philadelphia but didn't do
as much damage as it did in Alabama. There were 312 tornado's that
occurred during 24 hours. That is a lot of tornado's for that little
time limit. The amount of people killed was around 340 but i can't say
the exact number since more people couldn't have been injured and died
today so this is just a estimation. One thing i wonder about is how do
people prepare for tornado's. Do they hide in a corner or under a table?
Well I'll be back later so we can get on the topic about the earthquake
that had hit japan.

The issue I have chosen for a connection between the world and I is gay marriage. I have always been interested in not only this topic, but also the topic of gay rights in general. Mainly because I have am for gay marriage and equal rights. I feel as though everyone should have freedom and be with whom we please. Why must people of the same gender who are in love have to hide it because society isn’t ready to see it?
I have searched for many websites that have information on same sex marriages, and I have learned about proposition 8. Proposition 8 or the California Marriage Protection Act, was passed in November of 2008, legalizes gay marriage in California. Something that I wonder is why religion is a major factor of same sex marriage and why the government plays a major part. I hope that maybe , just maybe , the world will realize that love is love and who are we to judge when no one is perfect.
· Drug and alcohol abuse
· Expansion of organized crime
· Illiteracy and lack of education
· Lack of political will to end the practice
· Corruption
· Poverty and unemployment
· Low status of girls in many countries
· Inadequate or non-enforced laws
· Forcing victims into prostitution
· Subjecting victims to slavery or involuntary servitude
· Compelling victims to commit sex acts for the purpose of creating pornography
· Misleading victims into dept bondage
I wonder what are all these countries doing to stop human trafficking or if some of the countries are doing anything at all. Do traffickers let their victims free or do they kill them?

The
world is a place that we the people live in and is full of problems. For this
project we were to pick a topic based on a worldly issues that we’d like to
discuss.
My
topic focuses in on teen suicide and depression because it is the leading cause
of death. As you grow up, sometimes you hit unexpected events in your life that
you can’t handle. Bullying, because of weight, looks, clothing, and or sex, is
the main cause of suicide and depression. Even though I haven’t been through
the act of bullying myself, I know someone who has.
When
the act of suicide is successful its usually not the first time it was
attempted, in fact researchers have found that plans for suicide are made by 1
in 6 teenagers. 20% of teenagers have thought about suicide itself even if they
weren’t actually going to commit it. Depression is not only caused by bullying,
but also by relationship problems, deaths with family and friends, stress for
school, parental abuse or divorce. These struggles can cause angry emotional
and physical abuse to themselves, sadness, loneliness, and lack of energy.
I
wonder what others did who didn’t commit suicide to better themselves and help
get through their’ deep state of sadness. I wonder if those who did commit
suicide reached out to others for help or even had someone to talk to discuss
their’ issues with.
I
plan to do a lot more research about depression and suicide and talk to my
loved one who has attempted suicide to share her feelings with. No one should
have to go through this so you speak up because someone cares.
