400x400
400x400
Hey there! This is Tahmid and I am presenting a slide mostly consists about me.
My slide represent something about my culture and something about me and the social teen life. It was created for the cause to be noticed, be remembered by others, to be read or understood by others and also for some to take some actions.

My one purpose was o make the slide visual. For ex: '' For most of us'', if we see something appealing, it stuck to our mind for most then seeing something unattractive. Another thing that you can notice in my slide is that the size of the texts are big. Displaying big texts are easy for individuals to be noticed then texts that are really small and indubitably the person who's trying to read my slide will have a hard time and probably lose any interest if they had any at first place. SIZE MATTERS! I also tried to bleed of my images in order to make it more interesting. We don't have to fit the whole pic in the frame! As long as someone understand hat the cut off edge of the picture is supped to men, you are fine, take it easy.

Emptiness. One of my main concern while creating the slide was emptiness. One might think the more info you put on a slide the better. Yes, it might be true in some case but while you want to persuade someone to do something, it's better to make them understand it in the simplest form possible.
Why does my slide look the way it does? Well, as you can see my whole background is black and the main purpose of that was so the people can visualize the items that were being displayed at the front. Not sure if you guys did notice or not but all the pictures that are in the slide, there background was been cut off my an internet program that I found. I didn't ant to put differ background at one slide that is supposed to represent something. Plus emptiness was my main deal so if I inserted those background that came with the pic, my main value will be eliminated.

What influenced my decision? I came from Bangladesh, and I lived in the city of Dhaka. Let me tell you, Dhaka was in the top board of being the crowded city in the world! As i grew up there, every time I went out I would notice how people trying to get past each other real fast. They were not concerned of taking time and thinking about what'll happen next. As for traffic, I seen cars that were so close to each other and if they had any chance, they would accelerate and get by one another. Are they thinking about the consequences that they would have to face if a single crash occurred? How many people could die?
As for another reason us teenagers these days....we look up to stars, celebrities and what they do. They are like our idol! But are we following them in a right way?

Tailgating means to follow up something really close. The picture with the car demonstrates how they were really close to each other and the crash took place but what about in normal life? What if we followed someone or really wanted to be like then really closely and something happened to us? Yes, having an Idol is good but what if we have the wrong one? For ex: If someone follows Wiz Khalifa so closely and do whatever they do, would they have a good life? Wiz Khalifa sings about all the weed, smokes every time and what if someone did the same just cause he wanted to follow up Wiz Khalifa that closely?  The small car crash represents how their life would be damaged if they followed some ''bad celebrities'' that closely like the white truck. As you can see, the small car got more damaged then the white truck which represents, that someone will get their life in a poor condition with drugs, alcohol, weeds etc if we follow a celebrity like that. But look at the white truck, what damaged did he have? Not much as I can notice. There is my point, don't put your life in danger while you know that it's not going to affect the other who you are being influenced by. How did he second example of following a ''bad celebrity'' related to me?

Well, I was once the kid who tried to be cool and once thought about carrying guns and knifes around and act like a gangsta. But, as I thought more and more about it, it's not going to bring any light to my life but will bring darkness that can never go away. And the first example relates to me by seeing how people were having competition at the street and influenced me having competition in life but no...Life is not a race. Enjoy the good life, cause you might not know what's going to happen at the next second. Stop building  tension and let the cool breeze take you where you please to be. So please, do not tailgate, it's not worth it.

Hey There! This is Tahmid back again. I have received alot of criticism due to my previous slide not making sense to some people or it was hard for them to catch it up in couple seconds. SO, I've changed everything for my second slide and made a completely new one following what my classmates had to say.

1. One of my classmates said my previous slide was really crowded. So, on this slide I have tried to make the slide as empty as possible even though it took most of the space. In the presentation websites that we have received, we also saw the main detail of emptiness and I've worked it out on my new slide.

2. Second thing I changed on my new slide was that the catchy part. On the presentation site they've told us that to make sure you slide is welly visual-able so anyone can understand it in couple seconds. I think I've did a good on making that.

3. Third is I've learned from my classmates was the contrast. My previous slide had bad contrast and bad pictures which caused my slides to look really horrible. But on this slide I've tried to make the background orange-yellowish so the black and white birds can represent widely and the one colorful bird catches viewers eyes.

4. Another thing was the font I chose. I tried to pick out the best front that goes with the slide. That font best matches the slide because the birds dancing and flying all over and the font represent the freedom.

5. Another of my goal was to give a message or word out to the viewers who will see my slide. They can get a positive info by looking at it and it surely won't take that long time for them to recognize what it really means.

My purpose of the second slide was to catch viewers attention and put all my criticism in one place and make the second slide a better representable one. I've changed lots of important details and hope it all worked out all. Thanks for reading my blog and I hope you've learn something from it.

Inspire Through Sound
Most of the comments I got from people about my slide are about the spacing between my words. Some people said that the lines between ‘Inspire Through” and “Sound” are too far apart. Others said I should make the word “Sound” way bigger because it’s the main point of the slide. I made this slide different by making “Sound” bigger and bolder, and I put all the words closer together.  I learned how to capture someone’s attention by using three words on a slide. I also learned how to edit my pictures on my laptop (MacBook Pro). Usually I  use apps on my phone or iPad to edit pictures but I found out how to edit on my laptop by doing working on this slide.

Miriam Sachs Q2 Media Fluency

Hi, my name is Miriam and I am an artist and an athlete. I wanted to combine these two parts of my personality into one phrase. “Stay active” came to mind. I wanted something creative and unique. Creative ended up being the word I used to complete this phrase. I centered the words in the gray area. I made the type size 60 so the words would be big, but still have some empty space around them. I used a gray background so it would easily contrast with the words. I wanted the words to stand out.  I made the letters a shade of red so they would come towards the viewer and contrast from the background. Tahmid pointed out that my words spelled SAC vertically and if I added HS, it would spell my last name. The only thing I could come up with was “has strengths”.  I kept in mind that Zach Holman said to delete half the words on a slide. “Staying actively creative has strengths” sounded strange, so I deleted “has strengths”.  I made the picture a similar shape as my slide (both are rectangular).  I made sure the height of the picture was the same height as the slide so it would combine with the rest of the slide harmoniously.  For repetition, I made both figures in my picture gray silhouettes with few details. When I tried adding facial features to the figures, they were distracting. I made the figure playing soccer taller than the one playing softball and centered the softball player in comparison to the soccer player so it give the illusion that the soccer player is standing closer to the viewer and will not bump into the softball player if they were actually moving forward. I made sure the soccer player’s head was facing in the direction of the soccer ball and the body was moving towards the soccer ball.  I then made a similar connection between the softball’s position and the direction the softball player is facing.  Notice that the softball player has one arm pointing at the softball, as if they just threw it. The shapes of the balls are not round to show that they are moving.   I wanted to bring attention to the sports gear being used. I made the softball glove and soccer cleat orange. This gave them contrast from the figures, repetition (since both are orange), and made them come forward. I made them come forward to bring attention and make the figures seem three dimensional.  I used marker instead of solid shapes to add shading and form and to give the impression that I am still currently drawing. The marker bleeds off the slide. I wanted to show that the marker existed without making the image smaller to fit the entire marker. The thought bubble also bleeds off the slide. The point of this is that I am always thinking with an artist and an athlete’s point of view, but the thought bubble could belong to someone else. Anyone can try to always think creative thoughts, which will help them to imagine drawings such as this one. I had to crop the picture to make the marker and thought bubble bleed off and I should have cut off more of the picture so the edge of the picture would be at the edge of the paper. I drew lines underneath the figures going in the same direction to represent the ground underneath the figures. The lines are curved to show that it is a bumpy field instead of a flat surface. I used multiple lines to show that it is a two dimensional surface.

Reflection
I got rid of the thought bubble because during the class discussion, someone said it was distracting. I decided to write the words by hand so that they would be on the paper. I did this because the first slide had a different shade of gray behind the words than there was where the illustration is. Drawing everything on the paper allowed my new slide to have one background color throughout. I wrote the words diagonally because someone commented that the words looked like an acrostic poem when aligned vertically. I decided to add a figure playing basketball so the slide would be harmonious. It would have looked odd if there were pictures above the words and nothing below. Having figures above and below the words also adds a sense of symmetry. I made the soccer ball and softball orange so that they would be the same color as the rest of the sports equipment. In the first slide, the softball and soccer balls were different colors, which made them distracting. Making all the sports equipment one color (orange) gave the slide harmony and made it easier to see them. Now, everything in the slide looks like it fits together instead of parts being separated by thought bubbles or different backgrounds.

Hi, I'm Aldo. My presentation will be about something i have experience (life events) with. My slide as you can see tells you about how ‘The smallest things cause biggest problems’ and i will be talking about something that i can relate too about alcohol. I have seen people mess all there lives up with just one drink and this slide is best way to prevent future generation from those  mistakes. As i found from the websites about how to make slides, it said have the picture grab the audience attention. I used only one picture as my theme so the person would not get confused about the slide one picture should grab their attention. And for the empty space, i wrote my quote in bold and in a 30 size font. The best way to get the reader to see it and for it to be aligned without the words going off the page and i also made it in bold to keep the persons attention. Also this slides helps me remember just by looking at it what i am going say.

Hello I'm Nevrid and in my presentation is about showing people that no matter how much you think you know someone, that someone will have something you don't know (secrets). My slide is a slide that some of us can relate to. I constructed my slide the way i did because, it shows the things i learned from learning from the websites that i read. It shows the message which is bright and clear and contrasts with the dark background. So readers eyes will immediately be attracted to the message and will be able to get the message quickly. The moon also plays a part on the slide because it shows the meaning of the words and it doesn't take much space on the slide. The message i wrote, also helps me remember what i need to say for the presentation, just by taking a quick glance at it.

I didn't make a lot of changes in my slide because the things my classmates said about my slide were about the font of the slide and the word "hidden". So i changed the color of the word "hidden" into black and i changed the font into more welcoming font.

Lewis' Slide

Posted by Lewis Ford in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 4:06 am

Hello, I'm Lewis. My goal for my presentation is to make everyone's day a little bit better. I chose my background because I am 100% certain that every student in this room can relate to this picture. We all have times where we feel like our lives are just so bad. But as we grow older, we see that those teenage crisis years/growing up years were actually funny experiences. We all can remember a time where we through a fit over something we thought we wanted bad, now we look back on it and laugh. For example, when I was little I wanted a giraffe. My mom obviously said "no" because it wasn't realistic to have a giraffe living in my closet. For two weeks I cried "give me giraffe"(Lionel). Now I think "what in the world was I thinking asking for a giraffe?". At that time this was a negative in my life. But it has helped me grow into the realistic thinker I am now, which can be looked at as a development in life. So whenever you are feeling down because something bad is going on in your life, just know that it is helping you develops a detailed picture called life.

Destiny Preito Q2 Media Fluency

Posted by Destiny Preito in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 9:48 pm

Hi, I'm Destiny Preito and all the things on this slide are things that "shape" me as a person. But thats not what I'm here to talk about today. I'm going to discuss my reasoning for placing and creating things a certain way on my slide. Let's first start off with my background. I chose a white background because it along with black are the biggest contrast colors. And then put vivid and bright colors like hot pink to capture the readers attention when looking at the slide. I also tried the bleeding technique that was talked about in the "Zen Presentation" with the doctor's x-ray picture, because it's pretty obvious what's going to be on the opposite side of that picture. The last tip I got from "Zen Presentation" was the use of bolding letters. I purposely used bolded word on the slide to capture the reader's attention and make it big enough to read. On some aspects of the slide, I even used both bolding and vivid colors of the letters.

Well during the class discussion, they said my slide didn't really have a "purpose" so I took one of the aspects of my previous slide and turned it into it's own slide. Which was the whole fashion thing. They also told me my slide was too cluttered so I tried to take some pictures out to create more space.

Reflection:

I learned that my previous font was hard to read, and didn't fit with the overall design. I also learned that the colors did not contrast well, and my quote was too long. I revised my slide, and tried to make colors and shapes match. To do this I added a green hue over the picture to help distinguish the text. I also used rule of thirds from top to bottom making the text, the kaaba, and the crowd. The white in crowd matched with text as well.

Joaquin's Media Fluency Slide

Posted by Joaquin Thomas in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 11:12 am

MJ Tech Slide Number #2
I chose this picture of Michael Jordan so that the picture will bleed of the slide. Then I decided to place my quote were it is so that it wouldn't be to close to the picture of Michael Jordan and it wouldn't be to close to the edge of the slide. I also did this to first attract the eye towards the quote then for it be attracted to the picture which is also why I wanted the background to be black. I chose the short quote so that it would be easy to understand in a few seconds also the picture of M. Jordan is there because he is consider very successful in sports and the quote goes with by saying if you try hard enough and you set your mind to you could go anywhere. I also choose M. Jordan as my background because he was the best to ever the game and he is still the main face of basketball today.

Ashlye Fitzmaurice Q2 Media Fluency

Ashlye Fitzmaurice Media Slide
Hello, and welcome to my slide. If you did not know, my name is Ashlye Fitzmaurice and I love fashion. But today, I would not be talking about what I love. Instead, I will be talking about why I decided to arrange my slide a certain way and why I decided to put the things I put on my slide. Based on the vocabulary provided by Presentation Zen, I created this slide. First, my Media Slide is visual. For instance, I included a visual image of fashion itself. Next, my slide has one point; that point is as simply as fashion is my passion.  In addition, the size of my words are big enough to read, they jump in your face! Furthermore, I did not leave to much empty space. I did not want too much going on at once. Therefore, I made the few points I had big. Lastly, my visual theme is simple and clean. My theme is not over the top or crazy; it is as clean as the clothes I am wearing right now!
Creating a slide was more difficult than I thought it was going to be. Learning the techniques of creating a slide really opened my eye and perspective towards other advertisements and slides. I learned that a slide should not have too much or too little words on it. You want to grab the person's attention to tell them a point. I think that's the most important lesson I learned about creating a slide. You want to grab the person's interest to state your point with just a slide or bill board. I learned a lot more, but that was the most important aspect of creating a slide that stood out to me.
Ashlye Fitzmaurice Media Slide (1)
As you can probably notice, my second slide looks a little different. I changed a few things, but the first thing I changed was the text beneath my picture. I felt as if it had no use and it just brought the attention to too many areas. It may had confuse people so I decided to take it out. Next, after deleting the text, I decided to drag my picture all the way down. Now that I look at it, it looks so much better. It sort of pops in your face and that's exactly what I was achieving. Lastly, I rotated "fashion is my passion" to a certain angle because I wanted it to match up with my shoulder. In the other slide, it was off and it was not lined up correctly. So therefore, I measured it towards my shoulder and already, the background complimented to the color of my scarf.
