History Final Portfolio

Posted by Ona Brown in World History - Block - B on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 5:56 pm

This year in History has been an eye opener for me. This class has help me to see the world in a totally different light. Before this year I felt like I had vague understanding of the world in some aspects. I knew the surface of some topics, I never took the time or energy to actually dig deeper. I want to thank Mr.Block for aiding my classmates and I on this wonderful adventure. From pollution to colonization, our learning has been broad.  I’m able to teach others what I know and ideas that I have explored. Mr. Block helped us to see both sides of global issues. It’s always easy to see the obvious side of things but it’s harder to play devil’s advocate and try to understand the not too obvious side of the story.  I enjoyed learning how to do this, because if you know both sides your arguments are stronger. The courses I enjoyed the most this year were the Modern Revolution course and the Sweatshops trial.

As mentioned in the previous paragraph the first course that was meaningful for me was the  Modern Revolution course. With that course we studied many old and modern day revolutions. We explored the Arab Springs Revolution along with the Yemen Revolution and we researched information about the Haitian and French Revolution. After exploring all of the Revolutions we were asked to create a digital story that answered an arguable question about Revolutions. My question was “ What does success mean in a revolution ?”.  I was very proud of my Digital story, because I feel like people define success differently. At the end of Digital story I wanted people to know that  “just because the initial is not reached in a revolution doesn't mean the revolution was unsuccessful.” Researching different revolutions also help to see that the use of non violence is always better than the use of violence. Non violence sets you apart from your opposer when they are using violence against you. It helps you to still have respect for yourself and your people. It tells the opposer that they can take everything away from you except your pride. I think that’s an amazing idea and concept to understand. While exploring the Arab Springs Revolution I came across a quote that really touched me and will always stick with me. Political Professor Gene Sharp said ”Once the regime was no longer able to frighten people and people then act wisely and keep non violent discipline, which is extremely important, then that regime is in big trouble”. This quote said to me that once you no longer fear your opposer, your opposer is in big trouble because basically now you’re unstoppable. It’s very true, because when you’re no longer scared you have nothing to lose and people who have nothing to lose are the scariest. The Modern Revolution course will always be one of my favorites.

The second course I mentioned was the Sweatshops trial. Trials always helped me acquire understanding skills. Knowing all sides to a story always make your individual argument stronger. Although the verdict for the trial charged my group the Elites with the most guilt points I still believe capitalism was the most responsible for the treatment of the workers. After the trial I realize everyone played in a part in the treatment of the workers even the workers themselves. It wasn’t just one person's fault. That helped me to see something with the bigger problems we have in today’s world. We do things but don’t take in consideration the effects it has on other people all around the world. It’s an unending cycle that I don’t think will ever stop.

Throughout the year I found answers to a great deal of questions I had. I feel like I changed as a person. My inquiry and research skills have really improved. History has really changed my thinking so much that I’m actually thinking about looking into teaching history for my major. I want to open the eyes of people and fill minds with knowledge just how Mr. Block did for my classmates and I.

Climate Change Project

Posted by Antonio Flores in World History - Block - B on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 12:50 pm

In class we learned about how Climate Change affects people in different places along with the meeting that go on to find ways to stop global warming. Through this project Jelani and I (Antonio) talked to the readers/listeners as different people, and a polar bear, to try to convey the importance of global warming by showing how it affects others in a way that many people can understand and might be familiar with.

George H.W. Bush

(Sitting in desk-chair talking to camera crew)

Ah, I remember when I went to Brazil for that meeting, the uh, Jane what was the meeting I went to back in 92’.... yeah I know it was a climate summit, but what was the name of it...oh. So apparently it was just called an Earth summit and it was about the uh...Jane? What was it...oh, thanks, the Forests of the Future initiative. It was nice to fly to Brazil, I even remember when me and some of my acquaintances stopped by and heard some person ranting on about some Tupac tree or something, it was hilarious to watch, but anyway the meeting. It wasn’t anything special, it was just a meeting unlike that meeting in Panama that one time, they wouldn’t even let me speak, was I not aloud to or somethin’. Well what I am trying to say is Americans need to watch their...uh...consumption of stuff...what do you mean I can’t just say stuff….oh so I have to be more specific, ok ok. SO, America it is up to us to change this world whi-….what do you mean we can’t change the world, is that what you tell your kids….yes I know I can continue talking, thank you. Ok you know what, lets do the whole thing over.

So America, we are all away of the hot topic called Global Warming (leans back and talks to boom operator) see what I did there I used “hot” and “warming” hehe, oh what do you mean it’s not funny, your acting like this is a serious problem. Anyway as you know America we have the power to stop the progression of Climate Change, but only by working together. We have to stop relying on the hazardous things we use now, and we should start considering new energy sources such as earth, wind and fire (leans back again) see what I did there, Earth Wind and Fire is the name of a band (faces forward again). These new ideas can be put into motion by replacing the cars we use now with solar or electric powered cars, the old cars can be sold for scrap and, or recycled to make new cars. Ok Neil do you have everything for your project, good so there is no reason that you shouldn’t get an “A” on this assignment right son? Ok and by the way what did you mean when you said you got allllll of it, hey don’t up and leave like that.

Polar Bear:

(Walking along ice field)

Another night interrupted by part of my home crashing into the blue. Everyday my home seems to get smaller and smaller. There is nothing I can do to stop this, the warming of my home. My home has been changed by the people who visit here. This began long before I was born. The ice everywhere has been melting and I have been seeing camps pop up occasionally. I have also seen great ships pass through the land cutting through it like it was air. I rarely see anybody else around, there seem to be so few of us left.

(Jumps into water/ swimming away from iceberg)

The land isn’t frozen  like it used to be. There is barely any land left to live on, I always have to swim somewhere. The bigger lands that are still frozen are very far apart, but that is where the people sometimes set up camps. Sometimes I see the people walking around digging in the ice and then going back inside. I always wondered what they were doing. Anyway I hope I can find another ice-ber-...what is that sound? It’s almost like a high pitched screech.

(Dives head under-water)

(Sigh )

It seems the orcas found me again. I hope I can swim back and climb up the ice before they move-in. It looks like it is about 4 or 5 of them, but they look like they are just following me.

(Whale rams underside of bear)

There's nothing that I can do but keep swimming, if I stop to fight, they will just pull me under. Almost there, but the whale is turning back around

(Gets front to feet on ice)

(Whale bites hind leg and slowly starts to pull him in)

(Lets go of ice and slashes at nose of whale)

*Ugh* I made it...I can’t move my leg, I can’t swim if I can’t move my leg, I can’t eat if I can’t swim, and I can’t survive if I can’t eat…

Person Commenting on Barack Obama

So I mean Barack…..  I guess Obama…. is the President of the United States... of the thing we call our country America. You know Obama right? for him to not solve a problem is very critical for all of us. Bruh... President Obama did not show up for a National Worldwide Meeting...let the man enjoy his breakfast and his helicopter probably ran out of fuel you know with him saving the world and everything he finally took a break but you know bruh it’s no days off so you gotta you know reverse time and go back to that meeting and you know attend it because climate and other things environmental worldwide stuff is actually you know pretty important right? If I was the one who could answer that question it wouldn’t be important it’d be pretty unimportant if it was up to me you know other things obama has helped on war is it just pretty/  because he was probably busy handling other things toward helping the world. He was sent a message by  the minister to approach the problem for the call of that meeting ,but President Obama did respond to the problem and it was handles/solved as he said he would do towards the problem. President Obama also made an announcement for the world about the price range for army weapons because it’s more important about the soldiers and troops health then them killing each other. The U.S was called out by China,Asia because the U.S owes China over a Trillion Dollars! Also we’re not in that type of money zone right now to pay China back. Everytime the tax  imports money from our bank accounts and hard our hard earned money some stuff always happens because it’s stolen from us and was never given back. Yup, I guess thats all for today, or for the rest of my life, I mean I wanna thank ya’ll for listening for-real for-real like you feel me or naw?

P.S: Yall suck

Nature Enthusiast:

You know, first off, I just wanna say, OMG, I love them Kapok trees! They are one of my favorite trees in the world because one, I love rain forests, (oh yeah the Kapok Tree located in a rainforest, a freakin Rain forest!) It is such an important part of the rainforest because the best looking tree in the world is the Kapok Tree in the rain forest! Also if you say Kapok Tree you’re exercising your mouth muscles. Come on say it with me KAPOK TREE see that was great wasn’t it (total silence) yeah I bet it was! You know why? Because we’re thinking about the freakin Kapok Tree! (No one paying attention). I just wanna thank you for listening or were you all being idiots and not listening to the good ole Kapok Trees. So let me ask you a question, if you still care: why are you cuttin down my friends. These trees are helping us and the ecosystem, they are THE center(z) of the forest. They are the Washington D.Cs of the United States...es. Would you cut down the White House if it was a tree, NO…. well maybe, (under his breath) knowing you guys. SO (claps hands once) “Ceiba Pentandra,” come try to say it (waves at crowd)...no let the “a” drag: draa….draaaa, Pentandraaaa. This is the scientific name for the Kapok tree, you guys know about science right, I’m sure you know the science behind cuttin down trees and, burnen’ forests and, destroying habitats, but do ya’ll care. Nawwwwwww, you just gotta have your land, cut down “their” homes to make yours, who is them? You know, the animals yall claim to be separate from, your cuttin down their homes for what, FOR what? Ok so you, no don’t crouch down, you what did you say (puts hand to ear and leans over stage) it was fun, ok, ya’ll heard that? (Sarcastic Voice) Johnny Appleseed over here said it was fun, ok...ok (rubs hands together) so, tomorrow night, WHEN, yeah WHEN, I come to your house with a chainsaw, (giggles) hehe, ok, hehehe, ok, ok, will that be fun? No? Come on say it louder, it won’t be? Ok then. So you know what, I’m gonna just stop myself here, cause I don’t wanna make anyone feel bad so goodnight, follow me on Twitter @killmytreeikillyou, so see yall later.

P.S. Trees Hate You

Climate Change Monologue Project

Posted by Jahmar Askew in World History - Block - B on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 5:10 pm

My goal is to tell people how important the atmosphere is, and also let people know that this awful change is about the climate and it is effecting all of us people in some kind of way shape or form. My monologues are some what simliar in someway. Do you think you know how?

(Walter the crazy drunk persona)

( Home on Couch talks to friend about climate change)

Sooo, what made you come to me for help about this crap, of all people you chose me to talk about such a sick topic. Woah man i'm so drunk right now how am i supposed to talk to you about such a serious topic and im like the worst drunk on earth right now but you know what, ok i think i got it but, the world seems as if its going through some crazy changes man, but i really dont know whats going on but in the news its some talk about climate.

(PIcks up bottle and starts taking a few sips)

The climate is changing yes! don't you learn about these things in school? Look outside don't you see this piece of land we live on. no no no you dont get it we are here in alaska don't you see that stuff is starting to melt here. we need to leave. does it really matter?? yes it really matters.

Puts down bottle and gets up to go and get another bottle)

You just don't understand what you got till its gone man But um listen just reduce reuse and recycle like if you do that then we will have less problems than what we already have  though! so i think we both should do that though because someday people can look at us and see that we are actually helping the society out, well basically helping the whole world out right about now.

“Futuronologue”

(Future time when Climate change issue wasn't resolved and people couldn't get the things they wanted)

You know i think its time to put an end to this mess. yes! because you people aren't doing anything about this crap. no, the government isn't trying to help neither is olama president of the pupu states. yea we all know thats it isn't fair to us that the people who do recycle and stuff don't get credited for the good things they do. obviously you should think its bad that we don't get this going in the right direction ha ha haha. But you know what it is, it might be that darn Ruler we call President thats not telling us the real deal like come on. All these freaking problems in our society the biggest one has to be about whether the world will end or not. The stuff that goes on in our neighborhood seems like its worse than what the climate change is doing if you ask me. Seriously, we need to leave this piece of crap neighborhood, at least fix it up first but then we just outright leave because it seems like no matter what we change and no matter what we try to fix it always tend to get worse and worse.

(Days later at a bar on 69th and future)

Let me get this straight we actually found a way to solve this issue? I thought that it wasn't possible to fix the damage that has already been done to the world, our culture, etc. We really made a change and hopefully it stays this way. No one likes a dirty neighborhood. In fact, no one likes a dirty anything. things are going good and hopefully this continues to go well!

“Moonologue”

Have you ever looked up at the moon and realized that whenever its a full moon people tend to go crazy? Im one of those people, i'm not gonna turn into a werewolf or anything haha but Im not that type of crazy. I feel as though I am immortal, unstoppable, I protect myself from harm I cause but the thing is do i really get hurt from this, ehh sometimes but when I wake up in the AM I don't really think about what happen last night. Let me rephrase that, I don't remember what happened last night. It just so happen that it came to me that things was happening to me last night. I think it had something to do with that moon of ours. Its been full lately and its been changing me in all sorts of ways. All of this is from this thing we call climate change and it has been effecting our lives in all types of ways. Hopefully we find a cure for this crap soon because I am tired of going crazy. Im tired of waking up in the middle of the night and not knowing what is happening to my body like I just wonder what it would be like to be in a peaceful environment and not needing to worry about these issues in this world.

No. 1

Jerry Candell, 56

Los Angeles, Calif.

Hello, I’m Jerry Candell. I am 56 years old and I am a lung cancer survivor. I should be over the moon with happiness because I just heard the great news from my doctor who called to tell me that, as of right now, I am cancer-free and lucky to be alive. Honestly, though, that’s not at all how I feel. What i feel is guilty because I SHOULD be thrilled that I can finally get back to enjoying my life and doing all of the things I told myself I would do if I got better, but instead I feel almost as sad as when I got my cancer diagnosis. Why, you ask? Well, I spend so much time thinking how I got lung cancer. I’ve never been a smoker and none of my family members who I spent all my time with didn’t smoke either. I didn’t have a family history of lung cancer and actually most of my relatives lived very long and healthy lives well into their 90’s. I grew up with my family on a ranch in Montana where the air was always crisp and clean and you could drink the water right out of the streams. The sky was always full of stars and we spent our youth playing outdoors, camping and hiking and just enjoying nature. But after college I was offered the job of my dreams in Los Angeles and couldn’t wait to move to such a dynamic and energetic “big city” full as it promised to be of skyscrapers and highways and malls and people who seemed to be everywhere doing so many interesting things.  I spent all my years there hard at work, not bothering to notice that the city kept getting dirtier and dirtier. It got to the point that the smog hovering over the city made it difficult to breathe let alone spend any time outside, but I didn’t pay it much attention at the time, since I was either cooped up in my office or in the car or at home. It only hit me when I had to check myself into the hospital for treatment and I had all this extra time to just sit and think while I was fighting cancer, that maybe it was all that city smog and bad air that I had been breathing all those years in Los Angeles may have caused my cancer in the first place.  While talking to my doctor, we discussed this possibility. Considering the lack of cancer and my non-smoking medical and family history, the doctor told me that this might be the case for me. Climate change had a very devastating affect on my health and nearly killed me. Now cancer-free, I worry about continuing to live in Los Angeles. I don’t see the situation on in this city getting any better and no matter how much it seems some people try to help the environment here, it’s only a small drop in the bucket and I have no real confidence or hope that the air here will get any better any time soon. So, for my health and my peace of mind, if I want to really have a future where I have many more years to be able to live and enjoy all that life has to offer, I think I have to pack up and move back to Montana where I can breathe.

No. 2

Celia Carmichael, 39

New York, NY

Hello? Mother? I know it’s been a long time since we’ve talked but, as you know, work keeps me very busy and I barely have the time to eat a real meal or sleep, let alone chat for more than a minute. Ever since I made partner, it seems that my workload has quadrupled. But on the other hand, I am the youngest partner in the law firm’s history so feel free to congratulate me on my latest achievement. All that money you and father spend on my education continues to pay off. As a present to myself, decided to buy that new Range Rover and move into Manhattan on my own into this gorgeous apartment on the 20th floor of the most prestigious buildings in town. I really feel like I’m at the top of my game right now and just happy; busy, really busy, but happy, really, really happy. And to put the icing on the proverbial cake, I’m pregnant. Oh...my...god...i’m actually...pregnant. I’m going to have a baby. I’m going to bring a child into this world. A world where my child will probably have to fight so much harder than me to survive, to just breathe. I can’t believe that thought just crossed my mind. I blame those protesters. 300,000 of them are marching through the city right now. And it seems like they’re trying to warn the world that We're going to lose our planet in the next generation if things continue this way." And here I am, realizing I’m carrying the next generation. For all of my hard work to get myself financially ready for this new baby, maybe, just maybe I have to figure out a way to get environmentally ready so that I can help bring my child into a better world, rather than a world of climate disaster. I spent so much of my life in school working towards improving my education and getting my career off the ground that I didn’t take the time to appreciate or even understand the nature of nature and how impacts our lives and the lives of our children. Will my child even have nature to explore or grow up? Will the legacy I leave my child be a wasteland rather than a land of natural wonder and beauty? Will my child even have real grass to play on or real trees to climb? Will there by oceans and lakes for my child to swim in instead of just chlorinated pools? Will my child even be able to go outside? I keep going back to what I heard those activists shouting about the loss of the ozone and its possible dangerous and harmful effects and how the situation seems to be getting worse and worse rather than better. I can’t imagine bringing a child into this world who won’t even get the chance to touch or see or breathe the nature that I took for granted would just always be there while I buried my head in my books in my room. Maybe I need to start making some serious changes in my own life. Every little bit that I do can help a little bit. And if everyone else does their own little bit, then together all of our future children will have a promise of a natural and beautiful tomorrow. So maybe that present I buy myself will be a more energy efficient Prius rather than a gas-guzzling Range Rover. And I don’t really NEED that big apartment that will waste so much energy with all those lights and appliances. My baby and I can make do with less if it’s help ensure her future has more.

Britney, 17

Malibu, California

Like, I love where I live. California is too bomb. The beaches are beautiful, the people are beautiful (obviously including me lol) and the weather is almost always perf. But like literally the worst humidity came through like turn down for everything and my hair was too ratchet for life!  I cried like 6  times at my school ruined my makeup. Couldn’t even make track practice like, I was such a mess. And then to make things even worse, I was like walking to my car to get home and it started to rain. Like are you serious right now weather? Why are you even thing?  SInce I couldn’t go outside for obvious stupid reasons, I went on twitter to rant about my awful frizzy nasty hair. All that was on my feed was white girl problems, drake quotes and the hashtag climate change. I was like climate is weather right? and change is like cool. Or bad? I was confused. I clicked on the hashtag and thousands and thousands of tweets about climate change popped up. I didn’t realize how bad and life threatening climate change is. I found out on urban dictionary that climate change is a long-term change in the earth's climate, especially a change due to an increase in the average atmospheric temperature. So like, it doesn’t just happen in a seconds it takes a minute, you know? Or sad stormy ones. I started following some climate change twitter accounts and they keep posting news about climate change stories and news reports.  Like the latest one I saw was a picture of  35,000 walruses barely fitting on a small piece of land. Too many glaciers and ice are melting because of climate change! Like it’s like 100 mes in my room at once like get out. I know that if we don’t help the environment climate change will get worse and worse. Since that I wasn’t like  aware of climate change until I saw the hashtag I think I’m going to make a twitter account just about information about climate change. I think my friends should know about this, ya know? We don’t need any more bad hair days.

Antarctica Monologue

I am hearing applause  Mr, Thamid is calling me to the stage to talk about “Climate change” in Antarctica. I can see that my heart is pumping really hard and I started sweating like everytime I get frustrated. The applause is still going till I walk to the stage. When I started talking, I didn’t hear no sound.

I started explaining my life to the audience, “ Well, my name is Steven C. Amstrup. I am American zoologist who studies bears, especially polar bears. I was  born in Fargo, North Dakota and I was interested to learn about polar bear. I graduated from the university of Idaho with an masters degree with an wildlife management. In 1980 i started working for united states fish and wildlife in alaska and wyoming and I have also worked for united states geological survey in arctic during his 30 years of career primarily studying about polar bear” Since, the ice is melting in the antarctic, the population of the polar bear is going to decrease each and everyday because of climate change in antarctica. The state of the global climate is shifting dramatically out of proportion with the natural balance of the earth. The Antarctic ice cap is melting and losing mass at a drastic rate. This means that we will see more drastic weather changes and more species of living organisms going extinct. The primary cause for this shift in global climate is the increase in greenhouse gases. Thank you folks and I got a round of applause.

USA Monologue

I was sleeping on my bed, I heard people screaming and shouting I thought that it was on my dream but not really. My mom called me - Aaditya Aaditya, Aaditya…….I abruptly got up and I was told to look at outside. It looks like my house was middle of lake. I saw lot of firefighter’s trying to save people using  boat. We were safe since we lived in second floor. I asked my mom why we were middle of no where, as I was 8  years old I didn’t know that we had flood last night. As I was tired last night because I Worked really hard to help my mom to clean home which took me more than 2 hours . As I was in the room with my mom a firefighter came to help me and my mom like an angel I went to the living room to get my phone so,  I could contact my aunt. He used an boat to help to get to a safe place. When I got to a safe place with my mom I saw many people who were in the flood crying that their house is destroyed. I  asked my mom “Why is happening here? Why is this world like this?” After sometime I called my aunt and told her that we need help…...Our Area is getting destroyed because of the flood. She got a car to pick me and mom to her house. There me and my mom took some rest and ate food. Finally, I realised that “Why can’t I fix this problem when I get older?” I went upstairs to my aunt room to read books about climate change in US. There had an peaceful time.

India Monologue

  Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary

Spring holiday,  me and my cousin were travelling with my grandpa. We were asking him, where we were going. He said ‘surprise,. Yes, it was a surprise , pleasant and wonderful visit. Finally noon, we reached that place. It was a big lake. I asked my grandpa, where we are, he said, it;s “Vedanthangal “ in India exclusive for bird’s  sanctuary. We were happy and jumping up and down.  He said in spring climate from Nov to feb, birds from different country migrate here  and build nest to breed . I saw lot of diverse birds that I ever seen before like pintail, garganey, grey wagtail, blue-winged teal, common sandpiper, etc. We were there till  they close the place and with heavy heart we left from the place. I never forgot that spring in my life. Since, There is always climate change in australia, at the month of Australia, New Zealand and other countries

Climate Change Monologue Project

Posted by Vaughn Matthews in World History - Block - B on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 12:33 pm

Part I: In our World History class we are learning about climate change, and how it affects the world and things of that nature. My partner, Ona, and I made our monologues from the views of different people. My first monologue is about a girl who does a presentation about climate change to her 7th grade class. She shows how she feels about climate change. My second monologue is about a man in Australia who has a dream about viewing climate change. He learns how climate change affects him and other people.
Part II:
1st Monologue

Hi, My Name is Mona

I can’t believe I’m about go up in front of the class. Someone always getting picked on for doing things like this. Hi, my name is Mona  I know most of you probably don’t know me. I’m up here to show you guys my presentation on climate change. I feel like it’s important that children my age should know about climate change. I say this because when we grow up, we will already know about climate change and we can help make India get better when climate change happens. Droughts are happening. People are dying. House are tearing apart. What if this happened to you? What if you lost your home? Your family? Your food? Your everything? These things are what kids our age take for granted. And I feel like I should let people know about this. Furthermore, there are many effects of climate change. For example, year after year, the Baghmatti River fills up with rain and rushes down from the Himalayas to small villages and tears down people’s homes.  It pulls away cattle and goats, it knocks down many mud houses, and it killed a large number of people. This made many people sad, like Pavan Devi. His 19-year-old son, Vikas Kumar, was swept away by a fast moving stream, when he went to a communial toilet in the fields. In Dhanaur, for almost three months of monsoon, everyone’s lives depend on the water’s mercy. The ones left save food and grains and save firewood, to prepare for this yearly calamity. The poor people beg for food to borrow and eat, and they camp out on higher in tents that are made of cement bags. Now, because of the monsoon and climate change, these people live differently.  I think we should make a change, by helping these people and other people. We should come together as one and help each other! Thank you for your time.

2nd Monologue

Dream

All I see is darkness. Where am I? This doesn’t look like Australia. Is this Australia? Where’s my wife? Where’s the rest of the factory workers? It’s so hot here! (Rubs eyelids) Oh, everything is looking clearer now... I can see better now. And there’s my beautiful wife Olivia. She’s fanning herself. Olivia! Olivia! I wonder why can’t she hear me. It’s starting to get really hot again. I realized, she can’t see me, so I guess I’ll go see what the boys are up to.

(Jack walks away. He walks to the factory) Whew! It’s cold. (Looks to the other men) And there’s the boys! (Waves trying to get their attention) Oliver! Isaac! Henry! (Looks I guess they can’t hear me either. I wonder why? (Jack notices that Oliver, Isaac, and Henry are wearing winter coats and are shivering as they try to work He looks away) Now it’s cold! (Shivers) The weather has been very strange today. The climate is changing like crazy today! (Jack walks out of the factory and onto the street and sees two homeless men) Do you have any money you can spare mate? The weather is crazy out here! No! (Jack runs away. He looks up to the sky. He notices that it is cloudy) Today has not been a good day. Olivia doesn’t talk to me. Oliver, Isaac, and Henry won’t talk to me either. Can this day get any worse? (Jack hears a roar of thunder and it starts to rain) Just great. Really great. Thank you mother nature! Thank you for being hot, and cold, and rainy! (Jack puts his head down and starts walking forward) Jack! (Jack picks his head up and looks at the person speaking  Don’t worry Jack. It’s just climate change. You’re noticing how the climate is changing. Also, this is a dream. (Olivia dissapears. Jack sits up on his bed. He looks to his left to see his wife Olivia. He kisses her on her left cheeck and runs outside. He sees his group of friends from the factory. He sees the 2 homeless men and gives them 20 dollars) Here! Have a good day mate! You don’t know what you have til it’s gone.

3rd Mononlogue

Robby, 17 year old boy  (Sjögren's syndrome, Smart.)

Human Health

“Breathing”

Good Morning,  How's everyone feeling ? I’m here to talk about the climates impact on health. Some of you may walk away with the feeling of wanting to help, others with the feeling why do I care. But the goal I hope to accomplish is only making you aware of it. But Let me tell you a little about who I am.  My name is Robby I was diagnosed with Sjögren's syndrome when I was 6 years old, I am now 17. It was a shock to everyone, because no one had the syndrome in the family, so it wasn’t hereditary. At first we thought I had lupus, but with a serious amount of other tests ran we discovered the real thing was Sjögren’s Syndrome. I used to feel like an outcast, I was different, I couldn’t do what other kids did. The simple things I couldn’t do. for a while my  best friend was an oxygen mask. When I started to get better and regularly take my medicine, I started to meet people with the same disease. In school, I had more confidence and I actually began to join different groups. I started to invest my time in environmental science. It became a hobby. **You have any water ? Thank you, my mouth was a little dry. I’m sorry class, Okay good, I’ll continue. Around the time of the spring that just passed, I started to experience a more intense pain. Every so often I would have this feeling, my heart would  run a mile a minute. At any moment it felt like it would burst. My chest would tighten like a fist beginning to close. I’ve never took anything for granted, because that feeling burned in my chest every time I did. Of course my parents and I  were worried so I went back to the doctors. I was switched to different and stronger medicines. One of my doctors mentioned the change in my health might be due to the environmental changes. I was very book savvy and already involved in science so I did some research. I found that climate change affects those with respiratory issues and allergies. Along with asthma, food borne, insect borne, and heat related issues. The respiratory and allergy related issues applied to me, so I did further research. The spring pollen season was happening earlier and lasting longer. For example, Ragweed is a popular flowering plant and it was shown that the amount of pollen production is increased during this spring season. Tests on ragweeds also showed that high carbon dioxide concentrations and temperatures increased the amount. This not only told me that I needed to take my medicine, but told me there are high carbon dioxide levels. This carbon dioxide is causing climate change and pollution is due to carbon dioxide emissions.  **Gasp, I just said a lot . Everyone with me ? Kinda ? No ? Okay. So all this carbon dioxide we’re producing is polluting our air and effecting things that we may not know about. Which is our health. I thought this needed to be shared to other people, as young children we may feel like we can’t make big changes. But we sometimes fell to realize the little things we do can contribute to the big. Awareness is change, people’s knowledge and views change due to awareness. Twice a week I visit schools like yours and find kids who are interested in taking apart in the this movement. Thank you for your time. A you all have been a great audience. ** Sigh of  relief* Okayyyy mom, I’ll be down in a sec. I Guess I better run through it again after dinner so I’ll be ready for the big day tomorrow.

Climate Change Monologue

Posted by Zeshawn Rahman in World History - Block - B on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 8:47 pm

What we learned:

We learned many things during this unit. We did warm-ups, and watched a documentary showing one perspective on Climate Change, as well as watching a dramatic monologue. I think that all through this unit, we shared ideas, gave and inspired others with them, and from this we were able to increase our quality-way of writing in the monologues.

Monologues (Pakistan, Germany, Russia)

Unfair Change - Different Views of Change

Every day, I sit back and look at my land. I see that it is changing, day by day, but the appearance is not. Somehow, I feel that I am living in a different place than I was just a few days ago….

I currently work as a high ranking chemist for the government. Although my job is not directly related to climate change, or agriculture, I have connections which inform me about what is happening. I hear that climate change is causing increased flooding, which leads to severe danger and reduced living conditions.

I was informed that the ambassador, in a recent summit, said that climate change is impacting agriculture, cities, energy, funding, and other things in Pakistan. Along with this, I was told that around 20 international experts came to Pakistan and said that implementing a climate change policy was necessary for Pakistan to survive.

Today, just after coming home, I heard news that there was going to be flooding in my area. Shaking it off, I took a trip to the store, and bought some flour, and some rice. After getting the stuff, and walking back toward my house, I saw water…. you see, there is a bridge that I have to cross every day to get home.

On my way back today, I was going to walk across the bridge--like a wooden handmade footpath, but the water level had risen so much that it had covered the wooden planks. I had to get home, so I decided to risk it. Carrying the flour, and rice made my body act sort of buoyant - the bags were waterproof, and floated, so it was dangerous if I got too close to the edge; the railing was only 2 meter high. I almost got killed, almost wiped off the face of Earth without even a second to realize what had happened.

We need to work on a climate change policy. One that will actually work. In order to do this we will need the cooperation of not only the people, but the politicians. There is a lot in it for both the people, and themselves. They will not only get the riches of money, but the security of their nation.

[picks up phone - call incoming]

(In my language - he says Hello, I am coming. One minute. I am doing a a presentation. Okay, bye.)

Ah. Hallo. Mah ana panh. Hic minute… Mah presentation karana panh. Acha, bye.

Have a good  night, and take care, I have to attend to my children.

German Monologue - Education is The Archenemy of Climate Change

Hello. How are you all doing this fine evening? My name is Piotr Zeiss, and I am a student at The University of Munich. In my school, we think differently. Recently, with the improved realization of climate change, we must do everything we can to stop it before it’s too late.

The US, Germany, and 170 other countries signed a bill that shows that they will implement or get help implementing Climate Change policies, but there are three which did not sign, and are going to make our job of implementing these policies harder.

Stage Direction - Walk over to front of stage-area, and say “Does anyone have any ideas who these three countries are?”

Yes, these countries are Russia, India, and China. These countries have not signed, and might be opposed to climate change, we do not know.

There is a Russian general named Vladimir Ivanovich. In his recent speech, he had an assault rifle. With this, he threatened a member of the audience, as well as put everyone else in fear. He spoke about how China, Russia, and India, which are all related. Russia funds India militarily, and China is still communist -- explain. I feel that he is thinking in a Communist sense, as he was a general during the soviet times, which probably led to his mindset.

I hear news day by day that there is an issue of climate change, and our country is the leader. Not only do these phrases give me happiness, and hope, but they also give me sadness. How is my country at the top of maintaining such a threat, but also, not really educating other countries to follow. We gave one billion to support the UN’s Climate Change policy, but I feel that this is not enough to even dent the problem.

Coming from Munich, as you know, I understand the importance of climate change, ad how it’s a secret-unkown thing that is poisoning our Earth, and our life.

Not many people know about this, yet because of this non-understanding, people refuse to believe it is real. The leaders of countries do not like foreigners coming into their society in fear of spies, etc. If just the developed countries instill climate change policies, it will create a good impact, but if all the poor-developing countries joined and started climate change policies, then this would successfully eliminate the problem.

Russian Monologue - Change is Detrimental to Russia

Hello. I am Vladimir Ivanovich. You can call me Vlad. No, no ,no. That sounds too peaceful. Hi. I am Vlad. Recently - no, still too peaceful. You see this rifle I have? This is what I am going to use to hunt when I get my farm. Farm? You may ask…

Recently, there has been news climate change all over the world; ice has been melting, temperatures have been increasing, and places have a higher tendency to experience a natural disaster. Well, I’m not one of them. Many sources state that Russia, China, and other countries of the Iron Fist will gain useful farm land as well as increased income from the agriculture it provides. This will do so much for the countries, and it will occur naturally. We won’t have anything to lose, except maybe a few people in rural areas, but who cares. Mother Russia will be far ahead of the Capitalists in Western countries, such as US.

In US, farmland is already beginning to dry. Droughts set in. They are working vigorously to stop climate change for the benefit of their own countries, and allies. If they stop this, Russia, China.

[Stage direction -- look over at someone]

What? Say that again! Do you want to be 120 grains heavier?!

[Stage direction -- chamber gun]

Why you call me Crazy Ivan? Racist dog!

[Stage Direction -- Cover head with hand and sit down]

I don’t know why you say this to me! Does anyone have any questions before I proceed?!

Stage Direction -- look at different person in audience

Yes sir? You said that Climate Change will destroy Russia? Let me see. Huh? You are saying that it will increase temperature and mess up Earth. Ha ha ha. Not for me!

I am 50 years old, no kids, my wife was killed… When I die, I will see grass, and the wind will blow… This is not my worry. ROS-SI-YA will survive, when I pass policies will change!. I have to get home, Bye.

Monologue for World History

Posted by Lewis Ford in World History - Block - B on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 10:04 am

Part 1:This unit we spoke about climate change. We also spoke about how climate change affects people. I believe people in the city don't realize climate change. We aren't affected by it so we don't care about it. We act like we care but we don't. The only people that care about it are people that mostly rely on the environment to survive. My goal for this unit was actually understand how climate change is changing the world. I also wanted to be able to write thought-out monologues.

Part 2:
                                                                                           Stand up

Twenty-five cent!? That’s all you have for me!? Why has my pay been decreasing for the last couple of years?! I can not feed my family with this. Oh you’re sorry That makes it better. Thank you…

Hey honey. Yeah I got it. I can’t keep doing that work for declining pay. Quit? And do what? Just throw the last last 35 years I dedicated to mining work away? That’ll be real great for the family. *Smacks wife*. You’re worthless. Get up and pass me my meds and my leg. It’s over there in the corner. How much did you make today at the kitchen? That’s good. So we’re at 15.25 for the month. I’m going to sleep. I love you too darling… It’ll all get better....

*WAKES UP*

Goodmorning. It’s okay. Get you some coffee. I’ll be okay. Bye. *This leg is so uncomfortable*. Hello, Mr.Kabongo. Funny *fake laugh*. I was coming to speak to you about my pay. What do you mean you don’t have time to talk?! Is this what I have to do to get your attention!? I’ve been your most loyal worker for the last 35 years and you can’t even sit down and have a talk with me!? Unbelievable! *Storms out of office onto the field*. I’m okay Chanko. The man asks as if I haven’t been on this field all my life working for him! I wanted to talk to him about what the future hold for our mining business. *Opens eyes real wide*Is it bad? It’s beyond bad Chank. We need to start a movement to fight climate change. Are you in? Great! I need you to gather everyone that works in the fields and mine workers. Tell them that we will be camping out on the governments lawn. We will be screaming "CLIMATE CHANGE IS KILLING US!" Can you do that? Great! See you tomorrow... *Thoughts* We can fight this. This can change

the world...

A new war

-Slowly drifting away into the trans those *SARCASTIC VOICE WHEN I SAY

LEADER* leaders taught us to gallop towards at night… *pause*

-It helped on the nights when we weren't thrusting knives into throats, and piercing peoples bodies with a mixture of pain and agony.

-No lady.

-The killing is the part you got used too.

-But the unbearable torture that imposed on me brothers at hand, unimaginable.*Long pause*

-Vietnam born and raised lady.

-I was over there fighting the climate changes and people for 22 years.

-The gun and cannon smoke mixed in the air with the blistering sun was what I've dealt with 22 years.

-At first it was bearable. Hot,*PAUSE* but bearable. Over the years, it got worse and worse.

-I started to wear less gear. *PAUSE* I know it wasn't safe.

-*SPEAKS IN AN ANNOYED VOICE*I know it wasn't safe! But I couldn't afford to faint in these circumstances. Hey, hey! That is not apart of your job description! You’re the guru, the zen master of dealing with my kind! What should I do?

-*WAITS A COUPLE SECONDS* Yeah, that's what I thought.

-*SPEAKS WITH A LOW SAD TONE* No response; just like the government of my country.

*CONTINUE SAD TONE* Every night, it just consistently keeps me up. The fact that it’s a world problem and no one is doing anything about it. I don’t want to go outside in the summer. I keep my blinds shut. I’m afraid to drive past factories and see the smoke and fumes being emitted into the air… It just worries me.

-Yeah, it was a good session. Thanks zen master… I mean Ms.Slope. *Murmurs “crazy lady”*

*MAKES PHONE CALL*

-Hey fat Tony. Yeah, I’m doing fine.

-*LOOKS AT ARM* It’s a little itchy. I wish I my real one didn't get blown off. This’ll do though.

-I need you to gather up all our brother and *WHISPERS* tell them we have a meeting on “It.”...

-You know, “it”. The only fight harder than the enemy. The invisible fight.

-1198 Callow drive at 2200 tonight.

-QUIET DOWN, QUIET DOWN *PAUSES*

-I’m happy to see everyone.

The reason I called us all together is to address an issue that affects all of us. SETTLE DOWN, SETTLE DOWN! Now I know the first we spoke to the government about it, it didn’t end well. *Starts to sweat*

-But we’re warriors and warriors never quit.

-I want us to put together a rally together to get this problem worked on.

-It’s a big deal! Lives depend on our fight!

The government will not listen to those regular people in our society. It’s our time to be leaders!

-*POINTS SOMEWHERE IN CROWD* What’s your question? Yes. We meet at the board house and we stay out there as long as we need to get there attention. From there, we’ll demand that a bill or plan is put into place for our countries arriving years, to cut down on the amount of factories being built, and the amount of people driving gas cars.

From this, our nightmares won’t be ended but at least we can know that the future generation will enjoy their lives…

THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

Subliminal suicide

        Dear mother,

I’m falling… We’re falling I mean. Into a hole impossible to get out of. respected and cherished me. Don’t I deserve that? I just hope that some sense is pounded into the heads of those earthlings. I can’t deal with getting treated badly anymore. Why can’t I just be respected? I feel unappreciated, disrespected, and misused. The fill  me up with litter and debris. Carbon monoxide is constantly being injected into my bloodstream. Do they know I belong to them? Generally, when you own something, you take good care of it so it can last long. Don’t they love me? It wasn’t like this as I was growing up. People weren’t greedy, selfish, and ignorant. They only used the resources I provided when they needed it. My friends are getting cut down everyday to build injection plants to pump more monoxide into me. I think it’s time I just end it. I think about ending it everyday I get mishandled. I’m useless. At least that’s what they show me. There are consistent events headlined “TAKE CARE OF THE EARTH… IT’LL BE BENEFICIAL TO EVERYONE.” That’s a bunch of crap! They focus on my disease a couple times a year and litter the rest of the time. No! You CAN’T do that! It has to be a collective effort! Everyone recycle. Everyone change the light bulbs they have. Everyone cut down on the gas they use. If this doesn't happen soon, we’ll all die. Maybe I should end it now. Write back with your thoughts and suggestions when you get chance.

Sincerely,

Earth.

Climate Change Monologue: Reily Knott

Posted by Reily Knott in World History - Block - B on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 12:41 am

During this unit we as a class have studied climate change and how that effects our lives as we know it. for example in my partners monologues we touched on topics as forest fires, clean air as a broad topic. To be more specific here are details about what exactly climate change is and what causes it. In most cases we see that its caused by human influence such as the exhaust from our cars release chemicals into the air. I mean something as simple as cutting down tress which release CO2 in the air. Greenhouse gasses are used to run o many things and is released by so many things but in reality is killing the earth. These all contribute to the loss of out natural sources and the loss of homes for many animals.

 Clean Air

(walking to school)

As i walk to school in the morning sometimes i  look up at the sky and see the dark muted grays that have taken  over the once blue beautiful skies and the humid weather in october. And i wonder why nobody ever taught me about my effect on the environment. California used to be a great place man i mean besides the fact the all the ice cream places are now juice bars, but thats besides the point. Suddenly a big group of people come walking past me. Oh and by the way i'm not very popular so… *eyes rolling and shoulders shrugging*  its a rare occasion that multiple people come to me. Hey give me my paper back i need that for science. I assuming none of these kids had a idea that this paper on climate change could affect my grade in a good way or….a very bad way. HEY HEY i need that paper. C'mon guys. On wait you just didn't do you paper…. You could've just asked I would've help. Look nobody really understands the damage climate change can do to our everyday life. *everybody around takes about paper* Okay so let me break this down for you nice and slow. Climate change is caused by many things. Water vapor most know as greenhouse gasses this increases as the Earth's atmosphere gets warmer, and so the the possibility of rain, clouds and participation. Carbon dioxide this is let into the atmosphere by natural causes such as cutting down trees and all that natural stuff. *takes a deep breath* Are you guys getting any of this? Okay….I’ll take that And you know when you're too lazy walk to school or wherever you go. Your parents drive…. Yeah well just let them know they’re killing the earth. But actually i just remembered why am i even helping you guys... You tried to shove me in a locker yesterday. GIVE ME MY PAPER, your own your own now..

WILDFIRE

Hello everyone thank you for letting me come to career day, So my name is Robert Vick and I am a firefighter here in Colorado. So one issue that we firefighters face that the world is not really aware of is Wildfires.. Does anyone know what that is?...... A wildfire is an uncontrolled fire occurring in wildland areas, which can  consume houses. Wildfires often begin unnoticed, but they spread quickly igniting brush, trees and homes. And its very hard to put the fire out, once one it started it spreads through the woods very quickly… and its not safe to be around, not safe to breath and causes a of smoke. Everyone thinks that most wildfires are started by humans but really its caused by global warming… yup shocking right?... who knew that already?......hmmm okay so ¼ out of the class knew..And its only going to get worse…  climate change and other pressures are causing more intensified firestorms, sparking more damage and putting wildlife more at risk… so does anyone have any questions so far?.... yes you in the green shirt?....... How else does wildfires affect us?.. Well it  contributes carbon to the atmosphere. As this cycle progresses, climate change and wildfires both increase in frequency and severity…. Anyone else? Yes you in the pink flower hat……………. Im sorry i couldn't hear you, can you repeat that? Oh, how could you help prevent it?.. Okay well you guys can Ride bikes to school, walk, recycle, offset your carbon purchase, and plant trees. Thank you all for being a good audience, Hope you have a great school year.  See you soon, hopefully not because of a fire…...

FLOOD:

wow its so gloomy outside?.... this better not mess up my date with johnny….. okay blue or the red dress…. *BANG* what the h…….. AHHHHHHHHH HELP… Where is all this water coming from…. Sh** its coming up the steps…. omg omg omg what should I do? Climb out the window! … the water is coming in fast. it stinks so bad…. god damit why won't this window open!!! HELP SOMEONE HELP…. finally this thing opens.  Holy crap I can’t see the street, its flooded, this whole town is flooded…. the water is still rising. I have to get to higher ground?.... The roof! Okay don’t look down… you got this kelly, don’t look down…….. okay breath you won’t fall….. yes I made it……. omg… look at this town… its completely covered…. *cries* oom-g i’m gonna die, noooooooooo…… HELP ME SOMEONE HELP ME…….. hello? did someone just call me?... HELLO?.. HELLO…….. OMG JOHNNY WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!!! Are you okay? I should have listen to professor Gerry….. What?... yes my professor was telling us how Global warming is partly to blame for  heavy rainfall events and floods. Because warmer air can hold more moisture, heavier precipitation is expected in the years to come. But i thought he was just crazy… i don’t know it was early in the morning when he said this.. what else did he say? well he said As the climate system changes in accordance to more CO2 we realise that by polluting our atmosphere we literally pull the carpet under our own feet….. i dont know.. so what do we do…. WATCH OUT FOR THE BRANCH… AHHHHHH.  *slash noise* ewww this water is dirty… johnny where are you? JOHNNY… swim towards me I see you!! I need help I can’t swim….. help me up.. thanks. are you sure I think there is more room on the door that I’m floating on?... okay.. how can we prevent this from happening again? ummm well my professor said that   Important steps include discouraging development in flood-prone areas and protecting the natural systems, such as wetlands, that help to buffer against floods…. yup…… do you hear that? Its a person?... OMG johnny look its help!.. Johnny? No johnny no wake up no JOHNNY (Titanic song plays). NOOOOOOO…. HELP OVER HERE!!!

Climate Change Monologue Project

Posted by Ona Brown in World History - Block - B on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 12:40 am

In the first unit of World history, we learned and explored the serious effects of global climate change. The primary greenhouse gas that is responsible for climate change, carbon dioxide has been mainly emitted through human activities.  Climate change has always existed, but has progressively worsen. We furthered our knowledge on the topic as we watched various videos and researched the potential future effects of climate change on our environment.  We were asked to create characters and describe their relationship with climate change, while informing the reader about the global issue. My goal is to leave the reader with information and for them to know that no matter who you are, we're all experiencing the effects of this global issue.

Monologue #1

Job Regulation   (Clarise,  New York, Works at Sanitation department, 40 year old, single mother, 3 kids, )

The boss just asked to see me in 5 minutes. I really hope it’s not about coming in late yesterday. I have three kids, I’m a single parent. What does he expect from me ? I’m living paycheck to paycheck ! Maggy just started school... which reminds me, she has back to school night. Ugh, Nooo ! I have a late shift that night…. Has it been 5 minutes yet ? I think so.….Wait that’s him calling me now. Before you say anything else Mr.Rogers, I just want to apologize for being late the other day. My son Tommy, remember him ? He got sick, his asthma has been acting up really baa ( stopped in mid sentence) Oh so if it’s not about that, what is it about ? As the member of the sanitation department our goal is to keep the area cleaned, we recycle and try to the best of our ability to keep things cleaned. Is that what you called me in here for, to ask what this department does ? Okay. Yes, I am aware of the Amendment to the clean air act. It’s aiming to reduce acid rain caused by power plant emissions. I don’t remember how much the estimated cost would be to do this. 7.5 billion really ? We don’t have that money no way. I have said it time and time again enviromental protection is much too expensive for our economy.  I don’t understand, Mr. Rogers you called me here to have a discussion about climate change ? Yes, I would appreciate it if you just cut to the chase.  You had to lay some people off ? (Pause) I was one of them. (holds mouth and begins to cry.) I have three kids, what do I tell them ? Find another job ? It’s not that easy BOSS ! So, your telling me hard working people, are going to lose their jobs because you want to purchase cleaner equipment, and use sulfur dioxide and some nitrogen crap. Is having a cleaner environment the main priority right now ?  Now, that people have let pollution get out of hand, we’re just supposed to hurry and spend money to just try to stop it now. This has been going, it didn’t just pop up. It’s just noticeable now. How will you feed your family tonight ? Billy, Mandy, and your wife ? No ! No ! You can’t do this. (Long Pause, wipes tears) No, you won’t have to call them, I’ll get my things and go.

Monologue #2

Crop Growth ( Tica, Female, 16 year old, Africa, eldest of all her siblings, 2 sisters and one brother.)

As I wake, I wipe the crust from the eyes that have been held open from the night before. The sun pierces my eyes, but it feels good. I look forward to being  awakening by the sun. It is true, the world does revolve around the sun. I thank god for it everyday. Without it , how would I be able to feed my brothers and sisters. Mother leaves at 6 today, because she has to be at the bus early. Last time she almost missed it . I’m glad she didn’t because no work is no pay. So, this means I I I I have to get the kids dressed and fed for school. Sometimes I miss school,  this week has been awful, but I have to help mom. Since Dad is gone. I think about him when I’m plowing the fields everyday. He always said that if you're plowing has a rhythm it goes much faster. (Pull, dig, dig, pull, dig)  He was the strongest man I knew. (Huff)  It’s 8 o clock already, I should go wake the girls up so they can get washed. Onikaaaaa Tukaaaaa. Stop arguing just hurry and get clean ! Okay, now they’re up let me go get breakfast ready. ( Sigh) We’re out of rice. I thought I sent Mabitu to the field for more yesterday. He never listens, that why he stays in trouble. He’ll learn one day. It’s been so hot lately, the sun is beating upon my neck as if I stole from it. The rice isn’t ready to picked yet. (Pause)  that explains why he didn’t bring them in. Now that I think about it, It’s been three days without rainfall.  Rain is what affects the balance and nourishment of the seeds. How can anything grow without it. (Papa told me that)  I do remember Zimbawe, the wise one of the village. He mentioned something about none of the crops growing, due to the changing of the weather. He said  With the change of weather, the distribution of the plant seeds are messed up, so not only will our crops not be able to grow to their full potential, their won’t be many of thee (Stops in mid sentence)  Yesss, I’m out here ! I’ll be in there, in a second.  It’s almost time for you guys to leave out. We won’t be having rice this morning, I know, I know. Each one of you take a apple. Make sure you eat it, I don’t care if you don’t want it. I’ll have dinner ready when you come home. (Door shuts) ( Sits down) Will I ?

Monologue #3

Human Health ( Robby, Malawi, 17 year old boy, Sjögren’s Syndrome, practicing for presentation.)

Good Morning,  How's everyone feeling ? I’m here to talk about the climates impact on health. Some of you may walk away with the feeling of wanting to help, others with the feeling why do I care. But the goal I hope to accomplish is only making you aware of it. Let me tell you a little about who I am. You have any water ? Thank you, my mouth was a little dry. (Clears throat) I’m sorry class, Okay good, I’ll continue. (Gasp),  I just said a lot . (Sigh of  relief)  Okayyyy mom, I’ll be down in a sec. I Guess I better run through it again after dinner so I’ll be ready for the big day tomorrow.
