Home Network, Larrabee

1) On our LAN, we have a desktop connected through a wire while all of the other devices are connected through wireless connections. These include 5 laptops, 2 tablets, 2 phones, and a printer.

2) I thought it was very interesting learning about how a page is brought up when you click a link. I didn't realize how far these messages could travel in just a few seconds. I also thought it was interesting how the page can be broken up into packets so that it can travel faster.

3) Something I think people need to know about ISPs is that after a while, they'll stop caring about you. When you're a new costumer, they'll do everything they can to keep you. However, once you've been with them for a while, they won't fix your problems and they'll raise your payments.

1. I have a lot of devices connected on my home network 3 tablets, 4 iphones, 2 printers, and 2 computers.
2. I learned that there is a lot more to the in internet than just connecting to wifi and making sure that you  have a good connection.
3. I feel like you need to know as much as you can about your network so if there is a problem you know exactly what it is.

In my house, I have up to 10 devices connected to my internet at one time. There are 3 cellphones, 2 laptops, a desktop computer, a Nikon camera, a Sony speaker, an Xbox, and a Wii. We use most of them every day, but not the Wii and Xbox. Most of our devices connect to the internet wirelessly. The desktop is the only one that connects with a wire to the router. The rest use WiFi.

While we learned about our networks, I learned a lot about how the internet actually works, and about how a home network is put together. I was kind of confused when we first started this unit. I have an Apple router that is very visible in my house, and I thought that it was my modem and my router. I ended up doing the first assignment incorrectly because of this and had to go back and find my modem. When I went back, I was very surprised to see that it connects to my router through my walls! I had heard that this might be the case during out class discussions, but I didn't know it was like that in my house. I had definitely never seen the holes in my floor! I also learned a lot about how the internet works. I didn't realize that information travels through packets all around the world and into space to get back to you. I had no idea how much trouble my Netflix shows had to go through to get onto my screen.

We also learned about ISPs, and how they control how fast our internet is. This made me kind of upset. We pay so much money for internet and they can give us slow connection on purpose just because they feel like it! I'm not sure if this is a marketing scheme or what but it seems pretty messed up to me. This makes me appreciate it more when the internet is fast and works well, and very angry when it isn’t.

If I could tell other people something about their home network, it would be that they should know how it connects to the world. I think it is really cool to see how the chords go outside and into the city. We are all really connected in that way, which is interesting because people are so different most of the time. I think that they should also know about the big corporations. What we learned about how our ISPs might make things off limits if you don’t have their network is insane! People should be able to view whatever they want on whatever network they have. As we said in class, that might be a violation of freedom of speech, which is not okay at all. I know that I have strong feelings about this, but I would have never known about it without learning about my network. That’s why I think that others should get the chance to learn about it, too.

1. Connected to my network is, 4 phones, 1 smart TV, a printer, 3 tablets, 2 laptops, 1 desktop, and 1 chromecast.
2. While looking at my home network, and how the Wifi is set up in my house, I learned that networks are very complex. Many things are connected together in order for the whole network to function.
3. I believe that other people should be informed about how their network is put together and how it works.

My home network is with Verizon Fios, I learned that in this network I experienced and OMG! This lesson I found that I have an enormous of devices that connected to the router. I didn't know that there was a thing known as a modem that takes in internet for the router to send signals to my house. The interesting thing was that i didn't think that too many devices connected to the router can slow the strength of the wifi. While on the subject of the router, I didn't know it was connected to the phone line and we had to pay a large amount of money per year. I suggest everyone should know about the connections before getting the rip off of the network we be getting.

I have a total of 8 devices connected to my Internet Service Provider. Those devices are my family's 3 Iphones, my 2 house phones, our Ipad, our deskot, and our wireless printer. We use the internet on our phones whenever we need to look up anything on the internet or whenever we check our social media accounts. Next, we us our 2 house phones whenever we need to be reached and do not want to give out our cell phone numbers. Last, we use the wireless printer whenever we need to print out anything, such as an assignment for school, or a copy of an important document.

Throughout this entire process, I have learned many things that i didn't know went into me being able to have internet. I never though much of it until we began learning about it in Tech class. If i needed to inform someone else about my findings, i would tell them to basically look deeper. Everything looks simple, but if you look beyond the cover, there is an entire world of confusion out there.

​Questions: 

1.) My Local Area Network include my Dad's laptop, my own laptop, and my brother's laptop. All of our i-Phones are connected to the wifi at home also, this is a total of 5 i-phones. There are also, other devices connected such as 1 i-pad, 1 wireless printer, 1 TV, and my brother's Play Station 3. 

2.) I learned a lot of things about the network we use all around us. Something that surprised me was how much money it costs per year! It goes up to 1,500 dollars. WOW! I never thought about it. Learning about the network more, also opened my eyes and got me to be thankful whenever something is sent or I get where I want to get on the network because it really is complicated and hard to get everything started. 

3.) Something I would let others know when it comes to their home network is to be careful with what you do online. Be kind and watch what you go on when your connected to a certain internet, for example if you're on an inappropriate website because anything you go on is being recorded. Also, be thankful that your have a home network, in general because many do not and they don't have as many opportunities as you do with your ISP.

​1. I have a router/modem from Comcast. The things that are connected are my router are iphones- mine’s, my mother’s, brothers’, father’s and sometime sisters’.  I also have a printer, fax machine, home phone, and different tablets. We have 4 tablets- one ipad and 3 Kindle. Other things that we sometime use are Xbox, laptops, and television. These things are connected to my router wirelessly.  

2. While doing this project I found one interesting thing, it’s about the wires. For example`, I didn’t know that there were so many wires and I didn’t know where to put them or where they go. I found it interesting because each router has a different wire to make it work.


3. If I could tell people about their ISP, I would probably tell them the different wire that they use and where it will go. I would tell them like how some things you’ll need a wire if the modem is not wireless

My home network begins with the internet being transmitted into my modem/router. Next are the two devices that are hard wired in are my smart TV and desktop computer. Both of these devices are connected to my modem/router through an Ethernet cable. Then my combination of a modem and router allows wifi to be wirelessly distributed throughout my home and a set of devices are connected to this signal. Those devices are two laptops, four phones, an ipad, an X-Box 360, and a printer. This is my home network. Some thing I had learned about networks is all of this connection happens so quickly. I had been so surprised when we had learned about the really long journey the parts for a website take and the speed at which they complete this journey is incredible. Something that i would tell people about having a home network is that with a little bit of work anyone can find everything that you did on the internet. All the things you went on can be found and nothing is truly ever deleted. These are the things that that i would like for people to know about having a home network. 

9-11th Grade Picture Day - Tuesday, October 20th, 2015

​To all 9-11th Grade Students and Families,

Picture Day will be held in the school library on Tuesday, 10/20. All students will be photographed for the yearbook, free of charge. On Thursday, 10/15, students will be sent home with hard copies of the picture day order form. Families who are interested in buying photo packages should complete the order form and submit it, along with payment, to the photographer at the time of the student's photo sitting. An electronic copy of the order form can also be requested via email to sreddy@scienceleadership.org.

The picture day schedule appears below. Students will travel to the library via streamed classes at the indicated times.

Related, students who are interested in buying a yearbook but have not yet done so should submit a $50 payment (or $20+ deposit) to Mr. Reddy in room 501 before the end of November. Payments can be made via cash, money order, or check (made payable to "Science Leadership Academy"). 

Here's to a wonderful Picture Day and a year full of memories!

​1. My internet is connected to my modem through my ether-net cable (with my ISP Verizon Fios) which is connected to my router. All the devices that are connected to my internet connection are: three laptops, three smartphones, one printer, one cable box, and one Roku device. These are all connected wireless.

2. I have learned that many things connect to one another. I realized that I took my home network for granted because of how easily I can search a question and in a second I will get an answer. Now that I have learned about this, I understand the hard working process for us to be able to have this fast connection. An "OMG" moment that I had is how much my internet connection costs because I did not think it would be that expensive. 

3. If people needed to know about having an ISP/Home Network, I would tell them to be aware of all of the devices that are on the network. Also, to pay attention to the price and choose a good ISP carrier. The last thing I would tell them is when they have a problem and get help from someone, to understand what the person is fixing. This is believe they could tell you that you have to pay $500 for a repair that only costs $5.

​My home network is made up of a Xbox, a nook color, an I pad,  two Chromebooks  a desktop computer wired in and a laptop that is wired in.  The Internet get sent though from a motem router combination sending WiFi thought my house. They get it from the coax cable coming up and though the wall.  You have a coax cable if you have Comcast internet.  Also the router is connected to the laptop and desktop through the Cat-5 cable.

  1. On my home network me and my family have two tablets, five phones, two computers, a playstation, and a wii.
  2. I learned how much we pay for internet I was surprise that it was nearly five dollars a year.
  3. The prices may vary greatly. you may only pay ten dollars a month for your internet. Other may pay a hundred dollars a month. Also different ISP's may work better than other.

​Hi my is Meeghan and this is my home network. They are all connected to a modem and router. On my network there are 3 phones, 3 laptops, 1 desktop, 1 wireless printer, 2 kindles, and 1 Wii.My provider is Verizon Fios. My OMG moments was when i realized just what we are paying for and how much we are paying. I would tell people that you have to be really careful because even when you think no one is around and you don't think anyone is near they could see what you are doing and get you in trouble for doing something bad or inappropriate.

  1. There are several devices connected onto my home network. There are several gaming systems including a Ps4, Ps3, and an Xbox 360. There are also 4 Iphones connected to my home network. There are also 2 Laptops and 2 Tablets.
  2. Learning about networks was very interesting. I really enjoyed going back into the origins of networking and examining how this massive internet came to be. My OMG moment was when I learned that data can be broken up into smaller packets and come back together at its destination.
  3. I would inform them about internet safety concerns, and just general ways to keep your information secure.

My home network has two home phones, three televisions, two laptops and two mobile phones. At one point I followed my coax cable around my house and I never knew how far it actually went until now. I would tell everyone that they should be cautious with what they share on the internet because you never know who could be watching.

1. my family's tablet, computer, laptops, phones, and printer are all connected to my internet.

2. I never realized just how much power your ISP has over your internet. Honestly, It's kinda terrifying.

3.I would tell them to be careful on what they look up, do, or post online. It can be accessed by almost anyone and what you do now can affect you 10, 20, 30 years from now. If thats not a good incentive, then i don't know what is.

Hi my name is Zahira Tucker and this is my home network. We have Xfinity Comcast as an ISP. If you came to look at my cord you would find a coax cable it connects everything to the internet. All of our Devices connected to our WiFi are listed below:
4 cell phones
3 tablets
2 landlines
3 leap pads
1 smart tv
1 regular tv
1 touch computer
and 1 laptop...
I learned what internet really is and how it goes with you everywhere. Also, I didnt know internet costs so much yearly if you do the math. If I had to tell someone something about the internet it would be to be very careful what you put on there because it follows you everywhere you go!

In my home network I have two Roku boxes, Two tablets, Three phones, a Laptop and a desktop computer. These things are split between my dad, mom and myself. They are used for work, classwork/ homework, and entertainment purposes ( movies, Youtube, Netflix, etc.) I learned that you have an IP address that basically leaves a fingerprint on each site you go on. You also can be watched by you internet service provider as far as websites you go on. The OMG moment I had would have to be finding out that your IP address is what the police and stuff can use to look at what you do online. I would tell people when having a home network, be careful what you do and go on because no matter what you do, it can still be found. Even if you delete your browser history!

1. My I.S.P is Verizon fios, in my house we own 4 phones, a tablet, two desktops, a printer, and a t.v. When all of these devices are running my internet tends to slow down.  
2.The video that we watched that explained the distance packets travel in a couple seconds blows my mind. I learned that there are these huge server rooms that verify and transmit all the packets and requests that people send via their electronic device.
3.I would say that it certainly helps you to understand how your internet functions. Knowing these things gives you a sense of how you can fix and understand your internet.

Did you ever wonder how the magic of the internet happens? For the past couple of weeks, Ms. Hull has been teaching us how. What we discovered is that the internet comes into our house through a bunch of wires known as ethernet cables! The process goes by my ISP, Verizon FiOS sending the internet into my house! Verizon FiOS hooked the fiber-to-ethernet cable into a modem-router combination. The modem connects our household to the internet and sends packets into the internet. The router is what connects that modem to our internet by a wireless (Wi-Fi) signal! That Wi-Fi signal powers all electronic devices that connect to the internet in our house, such as two desktop computers, one laptop, two smartphones, a printer, and a PlayStation 3!

I didn't really know how much my internet connection cost, so that was my OMG moment throughout this unit! I also didn't know how your ISP, which in my case is, Verizon FiOS controls how quickly you receive your webpage. It literally costs my household about $120 per month to run all of my devices! Now, I challenge you to learn how your home network works. Specifically, I want you to know about what brings your internet into your house. I also want you to know how much it costs!
