Teens and Net Neutrality. Should YOU care?
Net Neutrality Tamir Harper
Why is net neutrality important for teens to know about?
How much do you know about net neutrality? If not much come sit in Mrs.Hull tech class to find out more! The information below is facts and opinions. Everyone may have a different views. The information below touch base on two things; one being that net neutrality is important for the safety of teens and adults and finally that it is important so everyone can have equal internet connection.
Net neutrality is very important for the safety of teens and adults. It allows us freedom of speech over the web. There are over 2 billion people that uses the web daily and should be able to type and say whatever they please. This is so important to the citizens of the internet because it allows you to express yourself through words/ comments over the web. Also, if you are not able to do so it can cause extreme anger and would be against the Declaration Of Independance.
Net neutrality is important also because it suppose to allows all teens to have equal internet connections. Without this I.S.P.S can allow someone to receive slower internet or close to no internet at all. The more you pay the faster your internet. Personally that would not be far to low income families because if they can not afford as much internet as a millionare they internet service will pretty much be off. Finally, it is important for everyone to have equal internet connection so that no one will have a fast lane or anything else. Everyone will be equal.
The information above is facts and it is also my opinion. People may disagree but this is right for everyone that uses internet. If the President Of The United States think this is important and he think we should keep it. The internet should be equal for everyone no matter what. Also, I.S.P.S should not attempt to take advantage of people.

Why is it important for teens to know net neutrality? Well I do! By: Gil Rosen
Net Neutrality, Frankie Murphy
The term Net Neutrality means that all data we use on the internet is treated equally. Right now, everyone on the internet has access to anything they want and any amount of it they want; all for one flat fee a month. ISPs (internet service providers) give everyone the same quality of internet, and the data that goes through the ISP is strictly the user’s choice- besides ISPs only being able to slow down illegal content . Net Neutrality gives everyone a right to equal data, and it ensures an Open Internet. Currently, this means that the people own the internet and no one else.
The issue being debated right now is whether the people still get their Net Neutrality or not. Big ISPs have started to make a stink over the last year, saying that Net Neutrality wasn’t thought up by a legal standpoint; so they turned the case over to the FCC (Federal Communications Committee). What has gone on from there is this: big companies want to make the internet censored and controlled by making everyone pay for ‘special’ services and charging for data use instead of flat fees. The proposal that was come up with is basically that, and is very dangerous because it would let the ISPs take control of the peoples’ internet so that there can be lots and lots of money sucked out of it. If this happened, the internet would be slow for all who didn’t pay ridiculous prices, and many people wouldn’t even be able to access or say what they want online- it would all be up to the big companies.
The current issue with Net Neutrality is important for teens to know about because we are growing up in a generation where internet is essential. If we do not have proper access to it, then information and our rights is being taken away. The internet has to be a place for expression, learning, and communication so that We the People can take charge and not money-guzzling companies looking to censor and add expense to our lives. The internet was created to be run as an open place, and it was a safe-haven for all who needed their voices to be heard or access to information. Net Neutrality is important for us teens because without it, we will only be looking into a world of big companies manipulating what we see.Net Neutrality Blog

Net neutrality is treating all data and devices equally, whichever race, devices, sites, or ISPs you tune into. Net neutrality is important for teens to know about. A lot of things happen on the internet that all teens need to be aware about like cyber bullying and digital discrimination. That is one of the reasons why we have firewalls at school and sometimes at home too. Companies such as Verizon and Comcast are ISPs or internet service providers violate these barriers and stream these websites legally without filtering all of it for users. This corrupts the rule of net neutrality and if that happens ISPs can pay extra to block themselves from using the internet.
This is where the FCC/federal communications commissions and President Obama comes in. The FCC’s job is the government overseeing what people do on the internet. President Obama thinks that shouldn't be any barriers between you and your favorite websites so he formed a plan. He ensures that there will be an open internet that can connect us to the world, but protects net neutrality for everyone. The internet has become everyone’s communication and everyday life, so consumers get to decide what they can do.
Now that you are aware about what Net Neutrality is and how it is being impacted. We want teenagers to know that everybody is going online and that they are going to grow up having problems online. They need to be prepared and if not they will won't be able to fix the problems ahead of them. We should be able to influence others by our opinions on what may be going on as well.

Net Neurality isnt fair. They control our network by easily restricting us on what we can see and charging us. Its not fair for them to take control of something that can be equally divided. Slowing and blocking us users from iternet connection is not acceptable.
Have you been affected by it? Have you ever been watching a movie on netflix and it starts to buffer or it just takes a huge amount of time to load? Then yes, you have been affected by net neutrality. They want you to pay extra in order for you to be put in the ¨fast lane¨.
What can we do? Theirs different things you can do. You can sign pettions and also indepently write to the FCC. The FCC are already taking action. Although these actions wont be effective and will only change a bit.

Net Neutrality and Teens
The internet was made to open new pathways. These new pathways led us to faster and more communication between us, engulfing the society we now live in. Technology is everywhere, and it is hard for many teenagers to find a way to turn it off. It is built into who we are and we should use this as a tool meant for everyone to use, with no hierarchy on the internet. Without net neutrality, it would slow down the world we are accustomed to and keep us from expressing what we want to which should be a right never taken away or made slower for the better of internet service providers.
By not upgrading to the “fastest” and most expensive version of your internet made available by internet service providers like Comcast and Verizon, the regular internet will become slower with new speed bumps. If one were to buy into the more expensive option, it would basically be the exact same internet you started with, just more expensive. This does not benefit anyone other than the service providers. Is this a world that we will know, one where people act only for their own benefit, ignoring what is best for the whole of America?
Service providers would like to filter what you do on the internet. They want to charge you based on what sites you visit and what applications you use and charge you from there. This is simply money against the happiness of the people. Society has become numb to life and has taken away many purposes of living and tries to focus just on advertising and self benefit. That is not what life is about. Life is about doing what makes you happy, and by doing whatever you want. The internet is one place that is supposed to be free for everyone, a place where teenagers can go for entertainment, inspiration, communication, anything. The internet is supposed to be limitless. Don’t let internet service providers take this away from us. If they take away what we do, they take away what we are. I want to live as who I am, and I’m sure many teens are with me.

Net Neutrality
Net Neutrality and Teens - Kopf
Net neutrality is a very important set of rules that many people believe should be put in the ¨book of internet rules¨. Basically net neutrality is the rules that would govern the fairness of the internet. Internet Service Providers or ISPs sort of rule the internet right now and net neutrality would govern what they can and couldn’t do. Essentially net neutrality would make sure everything was fair with the internet, no fast lane or slow lanes and no slowing down content if it’s legal. Net neutrality is liked and wanted by numerous people, including our President Barack Obama.
Right now there are a couple problems with the internet, a lot of that having to do with net neutrality not being enforced. Currently the ISPs have been slowing down certain sites and then asking if they want to pay extra for a fast lane. This type of thing happened with Netflix and it got them pretty angry. The ISPs have a serious power over the internet and without these rules they could speed up, slow down, or block content as they wanted.
Now that you know what Net Neutrality is and what’s wrong, I’ll explain why its important for this upcoming generation and the generations after them to know more about net neutrality. Teens these days and even young children go on the internet constantly and it really affects their daily life. Also they are going to grow up and have to deal with these problems. It’s really important that teens are prepared and knowledgeable about the internet and what’s going on with it. If they aren’t and the internet is still part of their daily lives they will just be affected by the decisions made and not be able to participate in fixing it or preventing bad usage. In general as long as they know what’s going on they have the ability and chance to take a stand for what will affect them in the future and now.
