Artist Statement Q4

Posted by Avery Measley in Advanced Art · Hull · e2 Band on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 3:05 pm

I think this was a good quarter for me. I actually liked the art that I created. The photo editing was helpful because I take a lot a detail oriented photos and knowing how to edit them is essential. The figure drawing was difficult at first; I had trouble finding a model and translating that image on to a larger scale paper. I think the only areas that I would redo are the neck and one of the feet. Both the figure drawing and the line drawings were difficult because the focus was human anatomy. The practice was definitely helpful though. The illusion of space was my favorite. I tried a new art style and I really like how it came out. I wish I had more time to add to the scene and draw the monster better. The texture drawings were very helpful, and I used one of the patterns in my final Elements of Art piece. I also really like the last piece even though the anatomy of the chest is rough and the snake took a long time to draw. Overall I really enjoyed this quarter.

Final Artist Statement

Posted by Deja Harrison in Advanced Art · Hull · e2 Band on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 2:45 pm

This final quarter I believe I did some fine work but I will be honest and say it wasn't my best. The first assignment due I could not complete because I did not have a laptop. My figure drawings artwork was really special to me I worked hard on it and I believe I did a good job on it. I choose a picture to draw that had a nice position for recreating it. My line drawings were my personal favorite this year I believe I did some amazing work with them. I think line drawing is fun altogether so this assignment was especially fun for me. For my digital drawing I tried really hard because it was difficult to make. I had to create it 3 times because every time I tried for some reason it would delete. I think my final was the best one though. The illusion of space drawing was also a very fun one for me. I did a fish and i decided to play around with the shadow of a fish and made ripples on the page to make it seem as though the paper was a pond. This was another one of my favorites this quarter I thought I did good work on it.  The practice texture drawing was very hard for me. There were so many items and textures to capture in the picture so it was really hard to get it done but I tried and I succeeded. For my last piece of the year the element of art drawing i decided to keep it really simple and just draw a tree. I think I did an ok job on it I could have done a lot better but I tried. In all I think this quarter just helped me realize that art is a very fun form of expression and I am very lucky and grateful that I got to attend the class this school year.

Art and Stuff- Shamble

Posted by Eleanor Shamble in Advanced Art · Hull · e2 Band on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 2:26 pm

This quarter I experimented more with various mediums to attempt to extend my abilities. I learned about texture and perspective, two very important elements to art. I tried to create as much variation as possible in my work.
There is no specific message linking these pieces, but I tried as hard as I could on them. They all came together for my final piece- the cat with flowers. I liked it so much that I made two more and submitted one to the 4th floor. It was overall a very productive quarter.

In this final quarter, I think I really gave the assignments my all.
I didn't complete the first assignment, but for the second assignment, which was figure drawing, I tried really really hard to make the person I was drawing look nice. I think I did a really good job of keeping the form, as well as all of my sketches looking nice too.
For the third assignment, line drawings, i used hatch-shading to create an entire piece. I'm really proud of this art piece, actually.
The fourth assignment, digital drawings, I made really interesting drawings using shapes that i like a lot.
The fifth, illusion of space,I made a painting I'm super proud of. I've kept this piece still, and it's one of my favourite pieces of the year.
The sixth was only completed halfway, so there's not much to say about it.
The eighth, since we skipped the seventh, is again one of my favourites. We were working with elements of art, and I kind of just had fun with this one. They're actually a few of my favourite pieces i've made in a very long time.

ending this year, I'm really proud of how I've progressed as an artist, and I think I might still have a long way to go but I'm happy with this years progress.

Q4 Artist Statement

This quarter, I learned a variety of skills that I added to my inventory of tools. A lot of the tools were specifically for drawing, which was great for me because that is the medium of art I prefer. We did so much in this quarter, I feel like I did the most this quarter.
The first project, we did edited photos that we took. We used different methods such as coloring, cutting, and for the final method I used I put two pictures on top of each other. This, I learned about the basics of photo-editing that will be incredibly useful in the future if I have jobs related to media work.
The second project, we did work relating to form. This was useful because I learned a lot about how to proportion my drawings of full-bodied people correctly. This is incredibly useful considering I tend to draw a lot of comic book-style art.
The third project, we did line work. We had to practice a variety of exercises that strengthened the way I drew lines. For example, I had to do one line drawings meaning I had to complete a drawing of an object without taking a break and it had to be one continuous line. This was difficult considering it was uncomfortable. This lesson added on to my armory of tools relating to drawing.
The fourth project, we had to do a digital drawing. This was one of the easier projects because I already had experience in digital drawings from doing them in the past. It was fun to do again because it brought back a lot of memories.
The fifth project, we had to do drawings that utilized space. This helped a lot with my skill on perspective because space has a lot to do with perspective, so I sharpened my skills on 3D like drawings. This was a lot of fun to draw too because Muhammad Ali is one of my inspirations.
The sixth drawing was the most challenging for me. We had to practice drawing textures and we learned different methods for drawing different kinds of textures. While this was the most challenging, I also learned a lot from this one. I got better at drawing things more life-like. I was mainly used to drawing just plain line drawings, but this project helped create variety in my lines.
Then, for the final project, I just utilized everything I learned and put it all into one project. This project helped me learn how to utilize my drawing arsenal and put it all into one big final project. It also helped me sharpen each of the skills that I used in making this drawing. This quarter was the most productive for me because it focused mainly on a medium of art that I was familiar with and that I plan on pursuing.

Artist Statement Q4 (Tucker)

Posted by Zahira Tucker in Advanced Art · Hull · e2 Band on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 10:16 am

During week one we did color photo edits which is something we have done before but this much more complex. This was a 2 hour assignment which the time it took me to edit these photos. I had to take the background out for one. The second I had to change the color of the picture. For the last photo I had to do both on a picture of myself. This was a little difficult but not too difficult because I got it done.
During week two we had to do a figure drawing of people that were in pictures we were assigned. This also was a 2 hour drawing on a larger paper. We needed to have 8 sketches before drawing our final drawing. I decided to draw the "golden mermaid" because I always had a love for mermaids and it came out really well. The difficult was scaling the picture to fit the poster.
During week three we had to do line drawings that showed the element of a line. At first this was difficult until I got the hang of how to do it. I had to research this assignment to understand it. I drew 5 pictures since I had the time. I am proud of my first drawing with the apple in the hand.
During week four we did digital drawings where we basically had to make a drawing online. This one wasn't as difficult because it was working with space and shapes to create a picture. This was also a 2 hour drawing.
During week five we had to do a picture that showed the illusion of space. So, the picture would look like it was jumping at you even though it was in 2d. I decided to draw a girl who was reaching to grab something so her finger popped out at you. This drawing was a 2 hour drawing and wasn't that difficult except trying to get it to look like it was coming out.
The final drawing was week seven and eight which were combined and this was to draw something that shows the elements of art and that has value. This was a 2 hour drawing. This was a little difficult because I had to figure out what a value drawing was to me. It turns out it's not as difficult as I thought. This drawing came out really well I thought.
Overall, this year has been very well for me and I believe I learned a lot over the course of the whole year and I am very Grateful. It's been a long year and I'm glad it's over and I will take what I learned with me for a long time.

Q3 Slideshow

Once again, I don't think I did very well this quarter. For the bike drawing, I couldn't draw with good detail or proportions on such a large paper. I hadn't used charcoal in several years so I did quite poorly on the optical illusions. I'm not sure if I was supposed to do anything special with the shaded forms, so those are pretty dull. The mandala was a total rush job as I was working on benchmarks at the time and didn't work on it. Honestly, the only thing I did this quarter that I'm actually proud of is the eye drawing and I only spent about half an hour on it. Overall, I had another mediocre quarter. At least I'm consistent.

quarter 3 Artist statement

During the third quarter we had a handful of assignments, from Eye drawings to mandalas. We had to draw a bike as a first assignment, there was a bike put out and we drew it to the best of our ability. The second assignment we did was a optical illusion. We had did a room type of illusion. Our third assignment was shading forms, I tried to do my best with the circle but it was really hard trying to make it. The fourth assignment was the eye drawing, we drew our own eye and colored it. The fifth and last assignment was the mandalas. We had the choice to to them online or by hand. I did both, I did three online and printed them out and colored them in. My favorite assignments was doing the mandals because we were able to free draw in my opinion. I loved that we could put a whole bunch of colors into them. I also enjoys the different patterns and shapes.

Artist Statement and Slideshow- Shamble

Posted by Eleanor Shamble in Advanced Art · Hull · e2 Band on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 4:32 pm

This marking period, I tried to enhance the level of detail I put into my art. I tried my best to improve my coloring as well- so when I was supposed to color some art piece I tried to make it as vibrant and engaging as possible.I did not end up completing all of the assignments because I kept getting distracted by art that wasn't the assignment and did not fit the requirements of the assignment. (I put two such pieces in the slideshow.)
I also experimented with different mediums- I used crayons, colored pencils, scented markers, brushtip india ink markers, and pencil. Mostly this was to gage my capabilities with said mediums, and I liked my brushtip india ink markers the best out of all of them. Crayons were a close second.
What I need to improve on for next quarter is how to do my sketches so I end up with smoother, better lineart. That will probably be my biggest goal.
