The work that I did was based off many others. I thought that maybe I could reflect like a mirror image of what people do daily. What it means to be an artist to me is showing how you feel on a simple piece of paper. I used many different tecniques to make my work the way it is. All of my work was inspiration, I felt like I had to make the things I did, take a picture. I drew what I saw and I thought was worthy and was very different something no one would have though of doing. I was inspired by many but only I knew what I wanted to do.
Artist Statement Q3
I completed the majority of the assignments on time this marking period. The bike was one of my favorites to do. I used a straightedge, markers and a shiny gel pens for the metal. I also really enjoyed doing the illusion drawings. I decided to do small lines with two circles because I do these types a lot and I wanted a challenge. I added a colorful pattern after inking it. I don't remember the exact pencils I used for the shading, but I used a variation of H's and B's to complete the different areas. My lines were messy and streaky, so I smudged some of the shapes, but ended up getting it all over the paper. For the eye project, I drew two smaller ones instead of one larger eye. I tend to draw smaller and with less detail, so I had trouble with my first attempt at this assignment. I ended up just drawing these two and submitting it. The last thing we did was the mandala. I took inspiration from the detailed flowery types, and placed that in small portions of my piece. I tried to incorporate circles with a few scattered triangles. The color scheme came from a Gap commercial I had seen the day before. I saw a lot of the same shapes I had used, and decided to use those bright colors on my mandala. Overall I like most of what I did this quarter.
Q3 Artist's Statement
In quarter three, I completed 4/5 assignments.
In the first two weeks, we created a large bike drawing. I feel like I did relatively well in creating a bike drawing that met all of the requirements, and I even got to use my copic markers to make the drawing look nicer when I messed up my lining in the end.
In weeks three, four and five we had smaller, single week projects. Week three was optical illusions. I chose to do something simple; the hand illusion you're taught in grade school. It was kind of a cop-out since I didn't really have a drive to do this project, but I made sure both parts of it were complete nonetheless. Week four was shading forms, which I didn't do. Week five was eye drawings, and I made two of those. I draw eyes a lot, so they end up kind of rushed, and less realistic and more stylised to how I usually draw them. I liked the work I produced a lot, though.
Week six was our final project; the mandala. I was, again, given the chance to use my copic markers and make something look really pretty. I made the mandala in a rush, though, and managed to finish and colour it in around an hour and a half at home right before the deadline, and it still turned out really nice.
I think it was another successful quarter, and I'm definitely getting much better at turning things in on time.
Final Project Q3
This quarter, we have done a few drawings. Each drawing introduced a new technique into our arsenal. For the most part, I like how most of my drawings turned out. I learned a lot in doing these drawings, such as using the human perception to your advantage. This skill is going to be very vital in any drawing because then, you can direct people's eyes to a specific point in your drawing to emphasize that point.
For the first drawing, we had to draw a bike. This was probably the most difficult for me and the outcome of it was okay, it wasn't great. It took me about 4 hours to draw it, however, I should have spent more time because it doesn't look like it was done in 4 hours, it looks like it was done in 1 hour. This drawing helped me sharpen my skill for precision and precision is very important in any work of art.
For the second drawing, we drew optical illusions. It took me about 2 hours. I particularly liked this project because it was fun drawing illusions and messing with my viewers eyes. I don't think I was successful at it, but regardless, it was still a learning experience. I'm sure if I keep on drawing illusions, I'll get better at it.
The third drawing, we practiced shading forms. This took me 2 hours to do. I already had experience in shading through being self-taught, but I still learned from this project. When I shade, I usually do it freehand, but I never learned how to plan my shading like the .pdf document on the assignment tells you to do. So, I added a new technique into my artist arsenal.
The fourth drawing, we drew eyes. I also really liked this project too. I spent 2 hours on this project. This was a lot of fun because I love drawing eyes, they are so unique and interesting to study. You could get lost in looking in people's eyes. I tried to recreate that to the best of my ability, and I think I did good. I could've added a lot more detail to the pupil of the eyes. Nevertheless, I really liked doing this project.
Our final project, was drawing a mandala. For this one, I decided to bend the rules a little bit. Instead of using geometric shapes, I used cartoon pictures of me, honey buns, cinnamon sticks, peppermint candy, and a strange blue flower. I didn't want to follow the geometric shape rule, so I decided to be a little bit different and use these unlikely elements for a mandala. I learned a lot about symmetry in this project. I really liked my final product because compared to everyone else's, mine looked completely different. It gives me a sense of style. This was probably my favorite project of the quarter. I learned so much about drawing this quarter and I look forward to learning a lot more in the next quarter.
Artist Statement Q3
This quarter I think maybe have been the easiest of all the other other quarters. I feel like I am definitely trying harder than I was before and it's showing in my work. For the first assignment which was the bike drawing, I think it was the hardest simply because it was the largest. It was really hard for me to get every part of the bike on the paper and capture all the little but important details of the bike. For the optical illusions I was confused as to how to make an illusion at first but when I got it they both didn't turn out how I expected but I tried and I suppose that´s all that really matters. For the shading forms I attempted to make it look like the examples given to us with the shading. I redid it twice because I kept messing up on it, I just had to realize I had to make it my own and that I couldn´t keep trying to follow the examples. My eye drawing might be the piece from this quarter I´m proudest of. I took a lot of time on it to get a lot of detail and make it look as realistic as possible. I think what I ended up with was better than I expected it to be and I love it so much. My favorite piece from the entire quarter on the other hand would have to be the mandala drawing. I had so much fun using all the bright colors and patterns to make it. I liked that we got to make it our own and it was fun seeing everyone do something different with theirs. Overall I think this quarter I improved on trying in art. I think I am comfortable now with doing things in this class, I no longer look at the assignments as impossible to do I just do them now. I´m really excited to see what happens with the rest of school year and look forward to getting better in my artwork.
Artist Statement Q3 (Tucker)
This quarter was kind of a short but sweet one. We have done 4-5 drawing this quarter which the overall hours spent on all was 14 hours. I am very happy with the outcome on my drawings. I learned that I need to spend a little more time on my drawings and make sure I edit the picture right before I submit my work. Also, when it comes to my art it can mesmerizing or it can be dull but I try to put everything into my drawing so it usually isn't.
My inspirations for my pieces of art are just to make sure it comes from the heart because if not then what are you drawing for. So, My first assignment was my bike drawing. My bike drawing took 4 hours or 4 one hour classes. We had to draw a bike from looking at one and making sure we had all the possible parts bike have. Also, my drawing isn't the best I could have done but I make up for it in my other assignments. I know for next time to just to make sure I focus more and work harder.
Our next drawing was our shading forms. What we had to do was use value maps and graduated shading to turn a circle, cube, and rectangle into a real three-dimensional form. I didn't understand this assignment fully but I tried my best to do the assignment. This took 2 hours to do in class.
My next drawing is my eye drawing. So, this is my favorite drawing of this quarter. This is a replica of MY eye. I was so excited with the outcome of this because I never would have though I could do this. Everything from the eyebrow to the exact shading of the pupil was just right for me. In the end or final drawing I did color it the color of my eye which is brown. This drawing took 2 hours until submission time.
My last and final drawing of this quarter is the Mandala drawing. This is my second favorite drawing. This assignment is 4 hours long because there are two parts. I worked really hard to make this look very colorful. I spent a lot of time on little details and I love the turnout. In the end it turned out super well.

Q2 Artist Statement
For this quarter we did contoured lines, paintings, recreation paintings, illustrations of texts and photo edits. With the contoured lines I drew whatever was near me which was a pencil, a hat, my glasses, an expo marker, my laptop, my Totoro pillow and a photo. I used pencils and colored pencils for these pieces. These didn’t take long to draw and color, possibly an hour or 2.
The next thing we did were paintings. In total I made three which took about 4-5 hours to complete. All three paintings were painted with water colors. The first one I did was a girl in a rainbow dress, I used a photo reference for that one. The next painting is a man smoking while the smoke is a galaxy. The last one I painted was inspired by my cousin’s bridesmaid. The wedding was a rustic type theme so I added branches, leaves and a flower crown to the painting.
The recreation paintings also took around 4-5 hours. For this assignment I did a simple festive christmas cat silhouette in Sakura Koi water color paints. As well as a bird in various positions. That one was also done with Sakura Koi water colors and a Sakura micron brush pen in black.
The illustration for texts I chose to do 2 songs. Both OSTs from dramas I really enjoyed watching. Both of these together took a total time of 4 hours. The first one is done in Copics, pencil and Sakura micron brush pens. The OST for the first illustration is from the drama “I’m Sorry, I Love You.” The song being Park Hyoshin’s Snow Flower. The next piece is from the drama Hwarang’s OST, “Even If I Die, It’s You” sung by Taehyung and Seokjin. That piece was also created using Copics, pencils and Sakura mircons. I decided to leave the heart in pencil and no touch it because I thought it wouldn’t look nice if I lined and colored it.
Lastly are the photo edits. I created 7 photo edits in total. All of them taking a few hours 2-3. All of the photos I had taken over the years, they were unused in my camera roll. So I thought I could make a good use and edit them for this assignment, I used 2 different photo editing apps, being Snapseed and Pixlr. All the photos were either taken in Philly, California or Florida. The first photo created was the one I took in California during the summer, I used Pixlr to edit that one. I wanted to leave only the sky and ocean colored because the blues were beautiful shades. The next photo was created in Snapseed, I used a photo from a botanical garden that I had taken in Florida. I liked a older and darker look for this plant. The tree photo I wanted to keep it simple due to the pretty colored leaves. The “Donut Baby” photo was of my baby cousin. I wanted to keep that one simple as well, but also make it look a bit older with filters. The photo next to “Donut baby” is that of my friend. For his edits I wanted a more older looking theme. For the second to last edit was the bird in California. I wanted a colder, bluer theme. Due to the cool winds and water. I wanted more focus on the bird so I decided to blur a bit of the surroundings in the photo. Lastly are the pink roses. Similar to the “Killer Plant” edit I wanted a darker, older theme. Just not as dark as that one. I created a darker background while trying to keep the roses in the lovely pastel pink. The pink of the roses is what I wanted to stand out the most in this edit.
Q2 Artist statement
This marking period I made some amazing work and I am proud of that. When it comes to the Blind color contour line drawing it was pretty tough because I couldn't exactly look at the paper. I really liked it though because it was such a challenge and overall I think they came out pretty well. My recreation painting may be my favorite one yet. It was a large canvas 8 by 11 and it took 4 hours to do. I worked really hard on drawing it and then painting it and having it finished in time but I pulled through. I think my work reflects the time and effort I put in. I am very proud of this little mermaid recreation painting. When we had to come up with our own painting something fun came to mind but I had no idea what I was going to do for this assignment. I saw Mr.Herman and I knew he loved Batman so I made a batman painting. Then, we have Aunt bertha. I have no idea where she came from but I wanted to make a person and this was the turnout and I'm not upset because she's the first person I drew fully in watercolor. Lastly, with the drawing I made some colorful bubbles out of the chalk and I think it really pops! I made for my piece of writing drawing I chose two different lyrics and they were both sad and utterly confused quotes that I really liked so I pieced them together and came up with two common broken hearts and as a metaphor a girl who is blinded by love which I really love. Our final assignment was the photo editing which took me some time because I had technical difficulties but they came out really well. My favorite out of all of them would have to be the girl's eye and only her eye has color. I really wanted to do something like this and I did and I am so proud for it. Almost every assignment this quarter took 4 hours and some may have taken only 2 but altogether I am proud of my work for this period.
Adv. Art Q2
If I'm being honest with myself, I kind of sucked this quarter. For the blind contour drawings, I would've done fine, but all we had at home was about 6 crayons. I think I did the best I could with what I was given, but that doesn't mean it looks good. I don't paint and I don't really enjoy painting, so the watercolor I did is pretty basic. I didn't put in as much effort as I would've liked. I do kind of like the character. He's kind of adorable. The recreation is probably the thing that I'm most proud of because I didn't make it in the first place. The illustration from a piece of writing was sort of a rush job. I didn't have a good quote to draw from, but I kind of like the drawing. It's pretty boring, but I think I drew the figures right. As for photo editing, I'm going to let the quality (or lack thereof) speak for itself. Overall, I aim to do better next quarter.
