For the past 4 years that I have been at SLA and since its establishment not once have we ever considered recycling originally my capstone was to bring recycling to SLA but due to circumstances this goal of mine could not be accomplished. Reorienting myself towards a new goal I realized that the most important task is to inform others of their duty to recognize where they throw their trash, and to be mindful of their ecological footprint. I found this especially important during this time where our most important figures in government do not believe in climate change. With this in mind I set out to organize a three day event in which I would meet with the students of the environmental ourse and inform them different techniques to help conserve energy and ensure all trash they use can be reused further, and not tossed into a landfill. Furthermore during this time we constructed informational brochures which were to be passed out during the march for science on Earth Day, and collecting recycling on the campus of SLA. These activities were both designed to make people recognize see one just how one small school can greatly contribute to the tons of carbon emissions and other harmful chemicals given off during the bringing of trash. But also to again get them to change their lifestyles to please the Earth. During this entire process I greatly improved on organizing larger events. I also strengthened my ability to collaborate with classrooms to create pieces of valuable information available to the public, and present multiple presentations to others. With my project I also felt the most active I have ever been among the local community when taking part in the March for Science and talking to others about taking care of the Earth. For my Capstone, I was decided to apply my knowledge of our core values towards a topic that I've been interested in since childhood. I decided to conduct months of research so that I could learn the in's and out's of creating a Gameboy. However, I didn't want to just create any ordinary Gameboy, but instead one that didn't rely on cartridges to play games. Luckily I came across a Youtuber named Wermy and a website called Sudo Mod, who shared my interest. I watched and read tutorials and decided the best way for me to apply what I've learned was to create a manual that incorporates aspects of the videos I've watched and the tutorials I've read. I chose a manual because not only did it give me a sense of nostalgia, but it let me demonstrate the knowledge I gained. Prior to this project, I had very little experience with computers and programming. After completing this, I feel as though I can understand new and interesting concepts similar to the one that I worked with. Creating this manual has taught me the value of research and how it can be used to create great things. For my capstone project, I was able to travel to Cuba in the spring. During our trip, we were allowed to research a STEM related project of our choosing. For my topic, i decided to look at business and entrepreneurship in Cuba. My research questions were: How are entrepreneurs able to start-up in Cuba? What does entrepreneurship look like in Cuba? How are people able to brand their names in a socialist country? Because Cuba is a socialist country, many people believe that citizens aren't able to branch out to make money any other way. By going on this trip, I was able to destroy that myth, but I also learned of the many different opportunities for Cubans to make money. For my final project, I made a website detailing some of the most popular ways Cubans are able to make money. I was able to include pictures to show just how life changing this trip was.

My capstone is on the Colored Girls Museum and my role in it. As a young black male in america, my mother thought it was pertinent that I consider my role as black male when coming up with my room. My job as a person i the colored girls museum was to curate a room in the museum. My room was called the colored boy’s room in the colored girls museum. In this installation I decided to do a project on the communication between colored girls and colored boys.After brainstorming with my mentor and curator of the colored girls museum, I came up with what I wanted to be in my room. I emailed all of the black seniors about the project and asked to each write an anonymous letter to the opposite sex about things they wouldn’t say in person. I then printed them out and posted them on the walls in my room. I also had a part where I partnered with someone from another school who had done a project the previous year that we displayed in my room. However, they weren’t able to finish in time and outside circumstances required me to shift my role in the museum to more of a tour guide and receptionist. Through the project i learned to collaborate with people in long distance relationships, research different methods to curating, inquire about the relationship between colored girls and colored boys, presented the museum to viewers, and reflected on the process after every week’s tour.
