Student Name:
    Mabintu Donzo
In school mentor’s name:
    Juan Gabriel Sanchez

Topic Summary:

The goal of this project was for people to learn more about their own culture and other cultures. To discover their true self, if they feel that they did not have a culture of their own, the club helped them found a culture.

Project Abstract:

For my senior project I created a Multicultural club at my school(Science Leadership Academy). It will be used to inform the students who join, about other cultures and encourage them to have an open mind when it comes to other’s races or culture. The culture club is multicultural, will be a club that will demonstrate the diversity of culture in the world. I know SLA is a very diverse school and most of us do not know about each others background or culture. This club was a good will to know about the the student you have had in your class rooms and they people you see every day in the hallways. I had four different event.

REFLECTION

Posted by Mabintu Donzo in English 3 - Pahomov on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 12:57 am

Our project was about school district funding it was done by Joe w, Mathew Walker, Vincent Russell and myself. We sort of did the project as a group but Joe and I did the website and Mathew and Vincent did the video but we turned it in as one big project.

One of the things that my group could not come up with was what part of the work each person was doing. First Vincent and I were suppose to do the video and the other two work on the website than later on Mathew said that he did not want to do the website and he wanted to do the video with Vincent. I did not know how to make a website so I did not want to make a website either but for some reason I decided at the end to do the website. Thank god Joe had a little experience with weeby.com (website) so him and I were able to work on the site and we tried to have everything on it.

Our biggest problem was collaboration I feel like as a group we really didn’t collaboration a lot. Some time we will tell each person what they needed to do before the next day and when we get together again and when we ask did anyone do everything they were support to do, some of us be confuse and act like we did not know what were suppose to do. There was one time when Vincent and I try to get every one on the good doc and the others did not feel like getting on or they were to busy with other works.

I think we should have done our project three days before it was due so in that will we could have tell if people our really plying attention to it or not and is it effective or not. It was really hard to figure out if people will actually view our website

This i believe: the difference between being smart and having a good report

Posted by Mabintu Donzo in English 3 - Pahomov on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 9:34 am
i believe that not every one with a good report card is smart.i realize from a personal expareuse. i remember one day when so students and i were talking about our report card. we came to the conclusion that i had better grade them everyone else. than one of the student made a smart comments towards me, that it was funny how i'm grades are better than theirs but they are smarter than i'm and also told me that just because i got good grades does not mean i'm smart. i was hurt by the comments but i also thought they were kind of funny because i realize i never actually said i was smarter than them or anything like that. that's because i know the student was right. the only reason why my grades were better than their is because i worked very hard for them and did my works. i knew by me getting good grades do not mean i'm smart because deep down inside i knew I'm not smart. my grades just means that i do my work.

mabintu and rugei "Nosotros Africno"

Posted by Mabintu Donzo in Spanish 3 - Gierke on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 10:27 pm

This project was fun, we got to work on a song to together and got to sing a song that mean something to us. We both were happy because we got to sing a song that we can relate to. We were able to express our life from back home in many ways in the song. This song is mainly about us coming to the U.S.A and how our life was different when we were in Africa. We really enjoin doing this project.

Estamos africano, Vamoso!

Africaaaaaaaaaa Nosotros Donte. Awooo!

Estamos africano¿yo no oyes tu?

Estamos africano, más fuerte!

Estamos africano,más fuerte!

Estamos africano, Vamoso!

Africaaaaaaaaaa Nosotros Donte. Awooo!

Nosotros Africáno, ¿yo no oyes tu?

Nosotros despegar

Y atterrizar en de American.

America fue muy frío y hermoso

What is your refrán supposed to communicate?

What are you especially happy about with your first draft?

What would you like to improve about your refrán first draft?

What was difficult about writing your refrán?

my Q4 Artist Statement.

Posted by Mabintu Donzo in Advanced Art - Hull on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 10:50 pm

I didn't like is project that much because I feel as though we did not have enough time to complete each parts. We were given a week to complete each parts which is not enough time if you are trying to do it right. There are two of my arts that I did really well on, I guess is because I spend more time's doing them than I did for any other ones. If I were given more time, my project would have been even better. I did worked hard on each one of my arts, and I worked best to my ability.I would have done so much better if I had enough time to finish. I’m every grateful for doing those arts because they make me feel like I have learn so much about art. That I can draw a picture on my own without anyone’s help. Doing this project send a message that I’m really doing well at drawing, I guess is because I now understand the messages behind my arts. Art wasn’t always my thing because I thought art had no purpose and you can’t express yourself with art like how you can with words. I was wrong because I’m expressing how I feel about my own work and how seeing my own work like this, affects me. I’m looking forward to the next year.

my art project!

Posted by Mabintu Donzo in Advanced Art - Hull on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 7:59 pm

For the second marking period I didn’t know what to do until one day I was so angry that I wanted to draw how angry I was. I realize I need something to do for the art and I thought that I should draw about my feelings. The first picture is about how I wanted to go back to Africa while I was talking to my friends from Africa. The flowers next to it are one of my favor flowers from Africa. The second picture was drawled before taking a math quiz and the only way I would have remember one of the question on the quiz was by drawing it. The third picture was drawled the day I realize my block is a long block. Since I live at the end of the block and every time I walk up the block I feel like I’m walking a mile. The fourth picture was drawing the day I got my history benchmark, I felt like I was in hell because I didn’t know what to do but then when I was done with the benchmark I was so happy that I felt like I was in heaven an that’s my definition of heaven and hell. When the fifth was drawing when I went back to the middle school I used to attend and I saw some of the pictures I toke during middle schooling and I want to redraw them into one picture. The last picture was drawled the last day this project to was due because I want to sign off, that I’m done with is project. I really enjoy doing this project because I got to   draw how I felt most of the time and every time I draw my feelings I feel good about it. With or without this project I will continue drawing my feelings.

Never forget where you came from and what makes you, you.

Posted by Mabintu Donzo in English 2 - Pahomov on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 2:10 pm

Never forget where you came from and what makes you, you.

“How is the family?” my father asked my uncle Lyee

“ Good, we in America how bad can it be?” uncle Lyee reply with a laugh.

“Where are the kids?” My father asks.

“ FATAMAAAAAA and HAWAAAA!” Uncle Lyee yelled out my cousin’s names but they didn’t answer or come so he told me that they were in their room and I should go and call them. My father reacted to the way my uncle spoke to me but said nothing. My uncle spoke to me in English but my father thought he was going to talk to me in Mandingo.

“ Hey, uncle Musa!” Fatama and Hawa greeted my father in English.

“How are you guys?” my father asked in Mandingo.

“ Good, we didn’t know you guys were here.”  Before they could finish their sentence, I kept taping their feet so they would answer my father in Mandingo but they didn’t understand the message.

“You guys don’t know how to speak Mandingo anymore?” my father asked with an angry.

“What to you mean uncle Musa?” Fatama asked my father in English again.

My father told her that this is exactly what he was taking about. Every time he asked them something, they always answer him in English. Then he turned to my uncle and asked him why his children responded in English when a person is talking to them in Mandingo? My uncle didn’t have an answer to the question. My father also said that no family of his is going to avoid their native language for a language that you speak, rather you like it or not, because is what everyone around you speak. He also told my uncle that kids would not know the important of their native language until the parents show their child that their language matter. Mandingo is not taught in the school they go to but English is, so kids can’t learn Mandingo anywhere else but home and if he doesn’t speak Mandingo to his children no one else would. From that day on my uncle spoke Mandingo in his house.

One day after school one of my American friend Jennifer and I came into my house to do our homework. We met my father in the house. My friend and I greeted him in English. He noticed that I didn’t want to speak Mandingo because I was with my friend, but he ignored it. Jennifer and I started talking about how our day was while we were doing our homework.

“ You and Maya weren’t at lunch today.” I said to Jennifer.

“ Yeah we was” Jennifer replied.

Out of nowhere my father asked Jennifer what she had said.

“I said we was….” Jennifer repeated nervously.

Then my father told her that she should never say, “we was” because it not proper English. The right way is “we were” not “we was.” from that day on Jennifer never said, “we was” again. Even if she was about to say it, she stops herself then said “we were.”

When Jennifer left, my father told me that he had to talk to me about something, Even though I knew what the conversation was going to be about, I still acted like I had no idea. He said that he notice I didn’t want to speak Mandingo because Jennifer was here. I told him yes.  He said if I would had spoken Mandingo in front of Jennifer she wouldn’t had been amazed and would had want to learned how to speak it because she only know one language which is English that she can’t even speak proper in. He said that I should be lucky I know more than one language because most children in America one speak one English and half of them don’t even speak it proper. What make me different from most of them is where I’m from and the language I speak.

James Baldwin said “My “home” tongues are the languages I speak with my sister and brothers, ” This shows that he tongues switches and he feels like he doesn’t have to talk to everyone the same way. The world may not understand his home language it is because is not for the world to hear. It is for his brother and sister to hear and understand.

I feel like James Baldwin and I share this quote because my sisters, my brother and I no longer speak French because we were so busy speaking English in the house. When my father noticed it, he told us that he brought us ot this country to learn, but also not to forget everything we knew. He said he allow us to speak English in the house because he didn’t know it was going to get in the they way of the other two language that we speak. Learning a new language doesn’t mean trashing the old one. It just means you are capable of speaking three language and not that many people are able to do. Although we can’t speak French anymore my parents still speak it and Mandingo to us, luckily we still know how to speak Mandingo. From that day on to now we are not allowed to speak English in the house.

I do this work because I feel like the world is becoming more and more trashy.  I believe we can work together to make the world a clearer place for the animals and ourselves. Every day I see people Littering and not knowing they are killing the animals and affecting the air we are breathing.  There are trash in the north pacific gyre that about the size of the state Texas. my question is why  so many trash  in the middle of the ocean? that show how we as a whole are not civilize. My goals are to get this message through everyone and make sure they understand that they are affecting the world and all living things in it including us. It wouldn’t hurt to put trashes in the trashcan.

My project is on a green bored because I want people to be greener to the world and shows how greener our world can get by not littering. I draw my world map instead of buying the map because I feel like is better to draw it because I’m showing that i cared about the world and to also show how art have a part in this project. I draw the map with a black crayons because I want people to see the outline of all seven continents.

My current work I do them because I had to do them and I do them with out trying to send a message through it but this one I’m trying to get people attention and understand the message behind my art. Art wasn’t always my thing because I thought art had no purpose and you can’t express yourself with art like how you can with words. I was wrong because I’m expressing how I feel about the world and how seeing the world like this affects me.
