Environment Info-graphic: The Tennessee Coal Ash Spill

I found this project to be quite difficult and I think that the challenges faced are visible in the final product. The color scheme of red, black, grey, and yellow, I think works well because they attract the eye to the different types of information in the info-graphic. The initial concept was to have the sludge serve as a means of direction to different levels of information but that design element fell through a bit in the long run. In the future we would attempt to better create this element so that the severity of the event is made more evident.

The information provided is transparent and varied, as it displays more than one perspective on the event. The info-graphic is creative and attractive in the color scheme and general concept of the project's layout. I found it hard to incorporate graciousness and a level of difference that would highlight the event as the group intended.

Coverdale Macbeth Creative

For the creative aspect of this project, I chose to create four pieces of artwork detailing Lady Macbeth’s journey. There is symbolism in the colors chosen. They show Lady Macbeth’s rise and descent in power, resulting in her death.

For the first drawing, it’s a simple crown. The crown represents the rise in Lady Macbeth’s power. She receives a crown after she is queen, but in some parts it’s red. This is because it currently shows how much blood is on her hands from participating in the killing of Duncan. For the second drawing, it’s the same crown but a little damaged. The damage to the crown shows that Lady Macbeth’s guiltiness is getting to her and her sanity is slowing coming to a crumble. More red color is shown, representing the blood on growing on her hands. As you look at the third crown, it has finally reached its crumbling point. The crown is now in shambles, pieces piled upon each other. More of the crown is colored in red. More blood is growing on her hands as the book goes on, from killing to killing. At this point Lady’s sanity has completely dissembled and ruined. By the end, the crown has turned to blood-covered dust because of the blood she put on her own hands by killing herself.

Cruz-Macbeth BM

In my creative project I choose to draw theatrical masks and the emotions of Macbeth. Both mask and facial expression expresses Macbeth from the beginning of the play until the very end. The first drawing, which is representing Act 1, show cases a mask of joy and a sketch of a smiling Macbeth. He has war paint on his face, which represents his noble soldier state. The quote that is written on the top of the page shows Macbeth’s determination as a solider and how he is determined to get his power. As the story continues the expression changes into a more apathetic feel because Macbeth’s situation has become more serious and he faces conflict, which doesn’t make him happy at all. The quote mentions him picturing a dagger in front of him and at that point Macbeth knows that he must go on with the deed.  On to the next act you move on to see a mask with worry accompanied by a frowning Macbeth. These expressions represents the uneasy Macbeth during act 3, following along with the faces is the quote about Macbeth baring a fruitless crown this goes along with the worry the faces express. Moving onto act 4 the emotion of the drawing changes drastically from the worried Macbeth to the very angry and aggressive Macbeth, which is portrayed through the faces. Lastly, is the face of distress and broken. The face represents the lose of Macbeth’s power the drawing also shows Macbeth’s head cut from his body the last and final stage of Macbeth. The quote fits well because the quote means that Macbeth would fight to the death even though he knows the odds are against him. As he dies, all his power leaves him.

Hohenstein Macbeth Creative

For my creative part of my Macbeth project I made a diary.  I included entries that Macbeth may have written during each act.  In the beginning he talked about how much he loved power but how he wasn’t quite sure what was going to far to get it.  He then began talking of Lady Macbeth’s influence and his nervous he has been since the kill of Duncan.  At the end of the second entry he had decided to forget about it.  As he got farther into his power he spoke of more killing.  He decided to kill Banquo and then he wrote of how it scared him.  Then after going to the witches, he told the story and he told what he was thinking about what they had said and showed him.  He wrote as the prophecies began to come true and he wrote after he was killed.  As he goes on the entries become more erratic and confusing.  You don’t quite understand the details although you get the general idea.  On the side of all of these entries I drew outlined images of Macbeth, beginning as a solider, strong and proud and ending as simply a head on top of a pole.

Thailand vs. Burkina Faso ('Collapse'ibility) - Blase Biello

Q3 BM Reflection

My countries were; Kingdom of Thailand and Burkina Faso. Thailand is located on the continent of Asia, while Burkina Faso is located on Africa. It was interesting to look at the similarities and differences of these completely different cultures/landscapes. Most of my process was research. I spent a great amount of time reading countless articles on a plethora of credible websites. I found at least one article for each piece of the 5 Point Framework and read it, taking down the most important pieces of information. Then, I took all of my research and put it together in a clean informative presentation. I actually enjoyed the 5 Point Framework guideline, it made everything easier. With the 5 point framework, I focused on specific things; instead of getting as many facts as I could get and spitting them on a PDF. The 5 Point Framework is very sensible and easy to abide by. If I could change one thing; I'd probably add more pictures, but I think I'm okay. This is mostly an informative, serious PDF; so too many pictures would ruin it, in my opinion. I really liked this project, and it really allowed a large amount of freedom to present our information in pretty much any way we wanted, which I appreciated. It was also a very interesting project and I've learned many, many things through it; solid project.

Europe Vs. Dominican Republic

Basically the countries i've chosen are kinda going through the same problems but not really. My two countries were Europe & Dominican Republic and the issues europe had was air pollution, soil, water Etc. The issues DR had was water shortages, and soil problems, basically the same but not really. The changes they had were the same and that was that the sea level was rising. Both of my countries are going through something bad and they kinda can't do anything about it at the moment. I thought i did really well on this benchmark, it was a couple of days late but i needed more time to actually think on it and to make it into something. I read a lot about my countries and i've learned things that i thought that couldn't happen in the countries. I thought the 5 points were difficult because there were times where i couldn't find the right information on my countries. If i could change one thing about my project i think it would be the countries because even though i've learned more about 2 countries and that really good but i think i would be more interested in learning about countries with the same problems and how they deal with the problems or what the difference in how they deal with the same issues. Other then that i thought i did a great job on my benchmark and i really worked hard to get it done.

Azaria Burton Macbeth Project.

I did a collage on the six different personalities of Macbeth. I drew six different Macbeth heads around my board. I then printed out pictures that represented his personality. For example, he was very brave so I printed out pictures of soldiers to represent bravery. I glued the pictures all around the head that represented bravery. I did the same thing for the other five personalities. I also put quotes around the heads. The head that represented bravery had the quote in the book that made me believe he was brave. I did the same for the other heads as well.

The quotes on the art tells of his reflection on his life. The broken horns, the chink in his armor and the tears in his epaulets describe what Macbeth has taken in and the damage that he has taken from the choices he made. The black crown shows that he is a tyrant and a evil person or overlord. The bandage on his eye and the blank glowing white eye shows that Macbeth is a supernatural force and that he lost all the good that was in him. The evil and soulless creature Macbeth has turned into has put him on the lowest of the lowest.

5-Point Framework: Switzerland vs. Portugal

For my 5-point framework I decided to look at both Switzerland and Portugal and what I found was very interesting to me. I looked at the overall sustainability of each country as well as things like environmental damage, climate changes, international relations and hostile neighbors; when looking at each I noticed that Portugal had a better track record and overall points system then Switzerland particularly in the field of how they dealt with environmental damage because of how they handled things like soil erosions, acid rain and increases in gas emissions and I thought overall the country showed a better grasp and handle on each issue that they came in contact with. When looking at Switzerland I thought it was interesting how even with the problems that they had they really didn't show much improvement in how they fixed each or went about fixing the problem but rather just seemed to brush over the things. I found this project to be very interesting and full of different things that I took away about how to look at countries differently in terms of sustainability and I also found this project interesting when it actually came time to dig deeper and look at how long a country could in fact survive on the system that they already have in place. If I were to do this project again I would probably change the amount of time that we had and maybe change the way I presented it.

Jaaz hayes Macbeth project

My creative project was a song and a keynote presentation. In the rap song it told Macbeth’s journey from thane of Glamis, to becoming king. In the rap it gives information about the story. It tells about all the acts, and all the major events. In the keynote presentation it shows all the quotes I used in my paper. It goes with the rap song. Thank you for your project, and I hope you enjoyed it.

Hudson2 - Macbeth BM - Elevator To Death

I made 9 boxes with at least 1 quote from each Act of Macbeth on the outside and a picture of what each quote looked like. I wanted to do pictures to make the quotes more clear. I stacked the boxes up so it seemed like an elevator showing Macbeth going from being a well liked soldier to a hated man with a death wish.

Macbeth Creative Piece

This is my quarter three benchmark, I chose to write a song explaining the story of Macbeth in a nutshell in the best way possible. This is his journey towards the end of his life in Rap.

Here are the Lyrics to my song.

Macbeth was just a man, Whose wife had a plan, she basically woke up an said "Baby, take out your mans”.

He's wondering why? She wants the Fame and the fortune,
Consequences aren't important, now she's thinking in the moment.
He really didn't want to hurt her, but this was a different kind of murder.  So every time she brought it up, he said " we will speak further ( Act 1.5, Line 63).

So he went and did it, lacking to no pleasure, Emotional Diamonds were made from the peer pressure.

He was falling down a ladder, but to her It didn't matter, She was wondering how he could commit the crime and forget to drop the daggers, She was kinda mad, she was kinda hot, But he said " I cannot Bear to think on it I dare not"( Act II.2, Line54-55).

He could say he's heartless. We know he's bluffing,
That guilt rose faster than bread in an oven.
"O full of scorpions  in my mind, wife you know that Banquo, and his Fleance lives" (Act II.2, Lines 1-2).
Do you know what that mean? He has a couple kids, They could come & take his home, watching his throne,
But they know what he’s about, never in much doubt, like a teenage date, he knew he had to Take Him OUT.

He always wanted more, decisions were kind of poor,
"I stepped in Blood so far that I can wade no more"
(Act III.4, Lines 137-138).

That's something that he said, his mind is going to shreds,
Where are those three witches Dressed as nurses with the Meds?
He's been going crazy, that's just something so amazing,

Going hard? Hardly, Macduff got an army,  Late to your own funeral? Macbeth was kinda tardy, They fought to the finish, Macbeth’s Reign diminished, “And I will try my last, Before throwing my shield”(Act V.8, Lines 32-33)

But how are you balling, Playing the field? You would think that he would have begged, please baby please!

But He’ll rather die on his feet rather than live on his knees.

Macbeth Creative Piece-Lisa Kang

For our English project, we had just finished reading "Macbeth". While reading this book we had to choose from Macbeth or Lady Macbeth as a character that we were going to track their journey. The person I chose was Macbeth. I tracked how gaining more power made Macbeth's relationship with Lady Macbeth change. Our first assignment was to write an essay. The next part was for us to come up with something creative to present.

For my creative part, I decided that I wanted to make something out of clay. There is a road in my project to show that it is like a journey. The clay models are there to show what is happening in each scene. Along the road, there are signs that have the quotes on them. The rod is to show that we're on a journey. The journey begins in the white section and the color white is used to represent that Macbeth is pure in the beginning and that he still has loyalty in him. The nest would be the blue section, in this scene Macbeth had just finished murdering King Duncan, and his quote was talking about how all the ocean cannot wash the blood clean from his hand but instead he will make it red. I painted this section blue to represent the ocean and there was blood all over, showing that it is turning red. Also Macbeth and Lady Macbeth's hand were covered in blood. The next section is painted red because he is becoming more murderous. Also in this section Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are farther apart from each other showing that their relationship is beginning to change. The next section is grey, and that represents that Macbeth is not completely evil yet but is close to it. The clay model of Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are separated even more in this part because Macbeth never mentions Lady Macbeth at all. Finally, the last section is completely black to show that Macbeth is pure evil. In this scene Lady Macbeth commits suicide and Macbeth only has a few words dedicated to her. I arranged the characters so that Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are on opposite sides of the road. Putting them like this shows that their relationship had been split right down the middle because Macbeth no longer cares about her.

Throughout the journey, it shows that Macbeth used to depend on his wife to steer him into any direction, but once he gained a lot of power, he began to be independent. Over the whole play, Macbeth grew farther away from Lady Macbeth as shown in my creative piece.

Quarter Three Benchmark

Approximating/Finding Areas Under Curves

By Nathan Kamal and Rick Kinard

Hello! Welcome to our calculus benchmark. This qfjgoogroduction to integrals, and methods to approximate the area under a curve. The assignment was to select a set of data from any real-world situation with an independent and dependent variable, the dependent variable being a rate. We chose acceleration, the relationship between velocity and time, using a set of data collected from a 2010 Artega GT. Below is a v/t chart and graph.

Now that we can visualize our data in the form of a graph, we can find the area under the curve over a given interval to calculate distance. Because a distance/time function is the derivative function of velocity/time function, we can use integrals to find how far the car has travelled, by using a t/v graph (in this case, the graph is actually TIME as a function of VELOCITY, due to the fact that time is a fixed, independent variable). We can approximate the area by using trapezoids and rectangles.

Bangladesh vs. Burma by Ali Ahmed

Click here to view full pdf

The two countries I focused on were Burma and Bangladesh both situated in Southwest Asia. They both share similar weather and costal waters resulting in similar environmental and climate problems but could not differ more in how the countries have used this landscape. Both countries have their problems of social and political instability, making an interesting study comparison through the five point framework. It required me to do specific research helping me better understand the individual impacts of the topics. I had to put credit to my sources and find ways to show my information as well as tell it. I would have wished to incorporate more forms of media and make it more interactive. Though, I was limited I think that my presentation is a good "launch pad" for readers to learn more about these two interesting countries.

This is just a collection of short poems, a little like a journal, you could say. They're meant to be comedic, and I'm not that good a poet either. Enjoy. This a representation of my written piece, which describes the journey of Macbeth throughout the story.

Poem one:

I’m a soldier, better than the rest

Until every enemy is dead, I will not rest

They all know my name; they tremble at the sight of me

If anyone were to cross me, my horrible wrath they’d have to see

I’m not a bad person really, just got to keep people in check,

Can’t be afraid to grab someone by the neck, to me human life is only a dust speck,

Macbeth’s the name, being boss is the game

If you have a problem with me, that’s a shame

-Macbeth…( “For brave Macbeth - well he deserves that name - Disdaining Fortune, with his brandished steel, Which smoked with bloody execution...Till he unseamed him form the nave to the chaps And fixed his head upon our battlements.”)

Poem two:

Lady Macbeth is pushing me

Pushing me to do something evil, something unspeakable

I do want the power; I do want to be royalty

But how far could I take it?

Could I really assassinate a king, could I really take Duncan’s’ life?

I consider doing it, I consider not doing it, oh what to do?

The decision has to be made tonight, and these daggers are sharpened

-Macbeth

Poem three:

I have done the deed, Duncan no longer draws breath

I am now the king, but was my murdering worth it?

The crown on my head is a bloody one, but a crown nonetheless

There are still people who would take it from me; they must be dealt with

The only option I see would be to do to them what I did to Duncan

Or maybe to hire another to do my bidding, to keep their blood from my hands

To keep more blood from staining these hands

I must act fast; every passing day brings closer the possibility of them taking the crown

-Macbeth…( “How now, you secret, black, and midnight hags, what is’t you do?” )

Poem four:

My heart has been wounded, wounded by the arrow of death

My wife, my child, both slain, not by the hands of Macbeth

But the hands of his minions, so his minions I shall kill

This does not mean that Macbeth is any safer from my revenge

He will pay for what he has done to me; he will pay most dearly, just as I have

I should have seen this coming; Macbeth has of late been a wrecking ball

Ending the lives of everyone he sees fit for his evil cause

Never had I thought he would go so far as to do something like this

But it will not go unpunished, certainly it will not

-Macduff…( “Not in the legions of horrid Hell can come a devil more damned in evils to top Macbeth.”)

Poem five:

I have lived a life of violence and bloodiness

And now it is coming to an end

I have only myself to blame for my demise

I chose the path I took, and this is where it led

So now, not far from now, I will be dead

            -Macbeth

Q3 Benchmark: Serbia and Peru

For the quarter 3 benchmark, the countries I chose were Serbia and Peru. They're both similar and different in a lot of ways. Serbia and Peru both are friendly and good trading partners in the industry. They both also suffer from water pollution and mining problems. Something interesting but also shocking was that the waste in Serbia has increased from 68,000 tons to 176,00o tons in only 7 years. An interesting fact about Peru would be that the country isn't hostile with other countries but inside of Peru there's so much violence and the system is so corrupted.

The process for my project was a little complicated. It was complicated because the information was hard to gather. The first thing that I did was get all of my information for Serbia after that was done i got all of the information for Peru. After I got all of the information that I needed I got the pictures and started the google doc presentation format. I then laid out how i wanted my presentation to look and began to assemble it.

The 5 point framework was difficult to find in my opinion. I had to really dig into websites to even get a good sense of what something was talking about. It was also hard because there isn't a lot of information on Serbia. I got all of the information that was needed but it was not an easy process to me. It made me think and spend a little bit more time then I wanted to gathering the information for the 5 point framework.

If I could change my project, I would probably make a video. I would probably make a video because it might keep peoples interest more but then I thought about all the information that would have to be on it and I didn't know how to make it come across people with out having a whole lot of words on the video and people having to read it. That's why I chose to do a Google Doc Presentation. I thought that would be acceptable to have all the information on a slide and I got to design each one with pictures that went with the topic of the slide.

Some feedback would be to have different check points for the project. I thought that since I had the twelve days i would leave it and start it the week before it was do. I didn't think about all the other work that I was getting and I fell behind with the project. I think that check point would help me be more organized and help keep me on track. Other then that I found out some good information on Serbia and Peru.

English Benchmark: Macbeth

For English as a class we had to do a creative piece about Macbeth or Lady Macbeth to explain and show how the character changes as the story of the book goes on incorporating quotes that we picked from the book Macbeth. I did a scratch project on Lady Macbeth and how she changes dramatically. To access mine you have to click or either copy and paste the link below.

Jasmine's English Benchmark

This is my English Benchmark. During this unit in English class, we learned about the life of Macbeth. For my benchmark, I focused on Lady Macbeth. The reason why I picked Lady Macbeth is because she started bold in the beginning of the story then at the end she committed suicide because of her own guilt killing King Duncan. She also had a huge impact on the play.

English Benchmark - Macbeth

My creative part of the project is a keynote slide show and a castle that I made myself. I made a keynote to summarize my essay and choose important snap shots of events and characters in the play. I wanted to incorporate something constructive into my project so I decided to make a castle that was involved in the play, kind of like a symbol. enjoy :)

English Benchmark- Macbeth

For my English project I created a video telling the story of Lady Macbeth's life. I used quotes to base my scenes off of. The quotes are the storyline and transformation of Lady Mac. For every quote I made a shakespearean version and a modern version. I believe I did a pretty good job on my video and I put a lot of effort toward it. I could of did better in editing my backrounds but overall my project story was clear.
