For this quarter we had to do things. We had to
- Take 200 photos and edit the ones you wants you want
- Post some that you think you were cool
- Make a sculpture
- Copy a piece by a famous artist
- Draw a bike 3 times
- Draw an observation from outside
Just like last quarter and the ones before, I listened to music to concentrate on doing my work. Unlike the last, I decided to do something that I wasn't used to. I put my pictures up earlier. Usually wait until everything is done and then do. Seeing as that didn't go so well the last time, I tried something different. I decided to changed mostly because of that and because my sister and thrown away my original sculptures. I had made a dress with a bag and roses. Thinking that i had already taken pictures she threw them away. Instead of deciding of using that as an excuse for not doing my work. I choose make one about something else. So I made one of the T.A.R.D.I.S. It stands for Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space. It is from a BBC show called Doctor Who used by a man and his current companion to travel through time and space. For the 200 photos, I took my camera with me everywhere. I took pictures of anything and everything, sometimes even hiding a little ironman figure into the scenery. Sadly none of those were good enough to show. But some that were were of my gecko, Speedy, an etching i found at Penn's Landing and one of Center City. My outside photo was of a moving train. I was actually surprised that it came out so clear. The edited photo is of my nephew at Penn's Landing. I edited it so that Keanu Reeves was in it. The painting from my famous artist is from Bob Kessel. It is his version of Tokyo Girl Utamaro. .

Beach and Things to do
Yesterday my mom and I went to the beach. We wanted to go for a late night swim. When we arrived there it was really cold. We forgot to factor in the sea breeze which lowers the temperature 15-20 degrees. We were going to put on wet suits and go in but after we felt the water, which was ice cold, we decided not to go swimming. Instead we had dinner with our family who was down there. it was all very nice and worth the drive.

How to Save A Life!
It is not unusual for teens to have some thoughts of dying. However, such thoughts can be problematic if a teenager begins to feel and express them frequently. Addressing these feelings as early as possible is important in preventing an actual teen suicide. The mental health portion of treatment for suicidal teens includes an evaluation of the teenager’s life leading up to the suicide attempt, as well as an evaluation of the family and home situation. These factors are important parts of determining the teen’s individual needs, as well as figuring out which treatment options would work best with the teenager’s situation.
Three different ways of dealing with suicidal attempts are as follows:

Three different ways of dealing with suicidal attempts are as follows:
Individual therapy. This is suicide treatment that involves therapy just for the teenager to help him or her work through feelings and suicidal thoughts.
Family therapy. Sometimes family therapy works best in instances of teen suicide treatment. This can provide a supportive environment for the teenager, as well as help the family learn how to cope with the problem and work together.
Hospitalization. In some cases, it is necessary to provide a teenager with a secure, safe and constantly supervised environment. Most in-patient suicide treatment includes therapeutic aspects, and offers the kind of supervision that might be necessary in extreme cases.
One of the most important aspects of teen suicide prevention is support. The teenager needs to know that you support and love him or her, and that you are willing to help him or her find hope in life again. One of the most effective ways to prevent teen suicide is to recognize the signs of suicidal thoughts and feelings, and seek professional help. Some of the most effective teen suicide prevention programs consist of identifying and treating the following problems:
- Mental and learning disorders
- Substance abuse problems
- Problems dealing with stress
- Behavior Problems (such as controlling aggressive and impulsive behavior)
All of the above issues can be difficult for a teenager to cope with, leading to helplessness and discouragement, which in turn can turn to self-destructive thoughts in order to make an escape from the seemingly insurmountable pressures of life. Getting help for underlying problems, which almost always include teen depression can lead to more effective teen suicide prevention. Your support as a teenager you know enters therapy can help him or her more effectively recover and know that there are people who want to help him or her deal with the issues of life.
Teen suicide is a very real danger, and heeding the warning signs can truly save a life.

Favorite Benchmark
My favorite
project was a project we were given that was like we were helping Obama. We had
to get a lot of data to back up and argument about issues facing the United
States. Then you had to make a speech in which you would “present” to congress
about the social issue that you choose which you thought was facing America. I
think it’s my favorite because of how the project was presented to us along
with what we actually had to do. The project was just interesting. Let me tell
you what you had to do. What we had to do was find something that we thought
would be worth to bring up to the president. Then we had to find the statistics
to about 20 or so data variable. So like states, race, ect. But something that
had a lot of numbers.
What I wound up choosing was community service hours. So I looked up for all fifty states how much people who didn’t wish to volunteer got paid per hour. Then I compared that to the population, minimum wage, per capita income, and if they officially spoke English or not. I found this not only to be doing as my project but also being able to look up this information and work with it. Then the other fun part of it was having to write the speech in which “if chosen” you would recite to President Obama. So yea definitely the funniest project and the project that was coolest and most open that we got to do.

Inquiry- I asked what was something that I find interesting and that would be useful to use in the project. Also if i would be able to apply the things that we had learned in class to help me with my data once collected and that would let me accomplish all that was required.
Research- I had to find all the data. The amount which people got paid,
population, minimum wage, per capita income, and if they officially spoke English or not all per state.
Collaboration- I asked some classmates for help with calculations and Mrs. Thompson for help with where to find the data and doing the math.
Presentation- I put it all in excel and then made a keep note to present to her and show all of my work and research.
Reflection- We had to talk with Mrs. Thompson about the work we did. Then from that we had to explain our process and present to her our work in the method we chose. Also had to discuss any question she may had have about our approaches or what we learned or became more skilled in with this project.
Prohibited
I didn't tell a story today for our last story slam because, in all honesty, I didn't have one. I was always the ideal child, never getting into trouble or doing things that I knew I shouldn't. In fact, my parents never prohibited me from things because I didn't do them in the first place! I'm slowly getting over this goody-two-shoes attitude, just in time to go to college, where my parents have no real say anyway.

Pan flutes produce their sound via air vibrating down hollow tubes of varying lengths and diameters. The pitch can be changed by blowing into a different sized tube. For this change in pitch to occur, the tube must either change in length, or in diameter. Because constructing a pan flute out of pipes with different diameters would be rather challenging unless one could find exactly the right internal diameters with identical outer diameters, I will be changing the lengths of the pipes. I plan on using PVC pipe for the pan flute because the other real option is wood or metal. Metal is expensive, and I imagine a bit more difficult to work with, and wood would probably not keep as well, so PVC is a good balance between accessibility and reliability. I plan on doing some research into how to properly building a pan flute as I am not a craftsman by any stretch of the word, so I figure it's best to know what I'm doing before I attempt said task. My only real outstanding question would be how can I figure out the proper dimensions of each tube without gratuitous amounts of guess work and wasted PVC pipe?

I plan on making a pan flute. The pan flute is really a set of hollow tubes of varying lengths with one side closed up, all stuck together. Traditionally they are attached in order of pitch, but it's possible to have them in any order really, it would just make them more difficult to play properly. It's played by blowing across the openings of the hollow tubes. To change the note, you would blow into a different tube. Each tube is of a different length, and thus a different pitch. It's shape is a bit difficult to explain. It's a bunch of tubes attached at the sides, such that their tops are all even, making an odd sort of inverted arc (seen below).
I imagine that larger tubes create a deeper sound, and the thinner the tubes the higher the sound.

The atoms build up and begin to bounce around, hitting eachother, very little because they have a limited space to move within. The amount of tension placed on the string as it is being hit changes the pitch. The characteristics that are necessary are the strings, the keys, and whatever is striking the string after the keys have triggered it. I will need some type of box or wood to build the exterior of the piano. Also I will need and object to strike the strings. I need these materials because in order to get the sounds I'm attempting to get I need the proper materials that can produce that sound. I will most likely play my instrument by pressing keys or striking the strings manually. My plan for constructing the instrument is to make sure the base of it is stable and then also make sure everything is in the proper place so that I can make the sounds that i desire to create. One question I still have is if I mess up how will that effect the quality of my instrument.

One organization is the salvation army which is a organization that helps man and women that are in need and need clothes and other things. But to me this isn't enough i think they should make a home for the homeless people and keep track of who is living where and help them by feeding them good meals and good clothes. Also give them a place to take a shower and bathe themselves.

Today on the economy it seems that president Obama says that that the economy is going up. Now some of you might be thinking is the true here is what he says "in the fall of 2008, one of the last rallies of my presidential campaign was here in the Cleveland area. It was a hopeful time, just two days before the election. We knew that if we pulled it off, we'd have the chance to tackle some big and difficult challenges that had been facing this country for a long time. But then he also says We also hoped for a chance to get beyond some of the old political divides - between Democrats and Republicans, Red states and Blue states - that had prevented us from making progress. Because although we are proud to be Democrats, we are prouder to be Americans - and we believed that no single party has a monopoly on wisdom"
Now when I think about what he says I think maybe getting beyond some of the old political divides -between Democrats and Republicans, Red states and Blue states - that had prevented us from making progress could have helped our economy make some more progress. But if you think it only a though.

Musical Instrument Blog #1
The instrument that I am attempting to create is a piano because I really like pianos. Pianos are usually played by the person pressing down on the keys which hits a string inside the piano that hit an object to produce the sound. Pianos are mainly shaped as rectangles with a circular end. As I continued to research about the different pianos, it made me think about how I can change the sound that comes from it. I thought that maybe if I apply a certain amount of tension on certain strings, it will produce a different sound that may be higher or lower than usual. Also I thought about changing the shape of the piano to see if that will have any effect on the production of my music.

Do you like the emoticon I used as the title? This faces are basically what describe how each farmer, consumer, and fish are doing in Japan.
If you have been following along in my previous blogs or keeping up on the latest new in Japan, you would know that they had a huge earthquake and tsunami. After, covering what happened on that tragic day, I hoped right into their imports before and after the earthquake and tsunami. Today, for my last blog, I am covering how consumers, farmers, and animals are being affected by the radiation after the reactors started to over heat and give off radiation. The two scariest types of radiation that were given off we iodine 131 and cesium 137. According to Japanese officials, iodine 131 has a half life of just over a week, therefore it isn't anything to worry about. But Cesium 137 is a different story because of its' half life of 30 years. Also, both forms of radiation forms are heavier than air, thus making their ability to disperse rapidly is limited.
Even with that reassurance to the Untied States, Japan is still affected. Let's start off with the farmers' farm land and their animals. Farmers that lived closer to the Nuclear Plant must now leave and abandon what they once called a farm haven. On CNN, a farmer was told to evacuate to safe grounds. He stated that he couldn't leave his 4th generation farm. But there is no profit coming from anything on his farm due to the radiation. He says that "the radiation sticks onto the grass, which is eaten by the cows, who produce milk and meat.". But this farmer isn't the only one who has to face this type of issue, many other farmers have to sell their cows and land and leave. Some don't even get to sell their land due to their close distance to the Nuclear Plant.
As for consumers, we are effected world-wide. I say world wide because Japan and China are the main food suppliers for the United States' cheap food. With the decrease of the U.S's imports from Japan, food prices will sky rocket to higher prices which will lead to complaints from Americans in sticky situations. But the real question is: "Will you still pay for slightly cheaper food with a dash of radiation?". A mother in Japan blogs about her view on product consumption in the U.S and Japan: "Shoppers will see more “produced" or "made in America” signage as supermarkets start to promote domestically produced replacement foods – like Gulf shrimp instead of shrimp from China, or U.S. farm raised tilapia. If supplies remain short, prices should remain higher longer, and the focus on the integrity of fish sourcing and other imports will only intensify."
As for now, all we can do is wait and see what will happen of the the once peaceful and yin-yang loving country. Be safe, be positive, and make the best of things.

When playing a xylophone, the sound is produced by the strike of the sticks on the bars, which transfer energy to the bar, causing vibrations. The force of the strike to the different bars plays a part in the sound as well as the size of the bars. My thoughts on size of the bars is that with smaller bars there is less room for air particles to travel, making it more concentrated, causing different pitches. Different sized bars are very important with xylophones. Smaller bars cause higher pitches while larger bars form lower pitches. In order to reconstruct a xylophone, I will be using a certain type of material for the bars. My ideas are either wood or pipe. This is because with an actual xylophone the bars tend to be wood, but I'm thinking pipe will making a louder sound. When you hit a pipe with something, it ends up being very loud, as if you can hear the vibration themselves which i think would be very useful in making a xylophone. the For the stick that will strike the bars, I plan on using wood. For the stand, I would like to have it wood. My idea is to have two large pieces of wood standing up and being nailed to two pieces of wood that will be placed flat underneath the pipe bars to be played while standing. And of course nails and screws in order to keep things in place.

- Are the sound waves effected by how I decide to play the xylophone? (i.e. if I hit two different sizes or I hit at a certain speed, will it effect the sound waves and will the sounds mash together or not?)

Favorite Benchmark
For our third quarter benchmark we had to create an instruction video for probability. This entailed writing out our own problems, solving them, and demonstrating them. This project was by far my favorite because it ave us freedom to choose and experiment different ways to show probability. It was a fun project to conduct. Throughout the project I learned the many different ways probability is involved in life, but more specifically in cards. SLA’s five core values were incorporated in the following way:

- Inquiry: My group and I used inquiry to gain as much knowledge as possible about card, as well as the game Black Jack. We designed questions and inquired what information they gave us and if the questions and results could be better.We incorporated great questions and awesome results, due to inquiry.
- Research: In order to play the game correctly we had to use and compare multiple websites as well as other card players, to find the most common way to play Black Jack. For actual work we researched common ways probability was used in a game of cards. We deducted that the best way was to find the probability of each players chance of 21 will determine which player will hit or miss. This vital piece of information would not have been used if would not have used research.
- Collaboration: My group used collaboration as a huge component to this project. If everyone had not come together to shoot of the video, solve the probability problems, and brainstorm to make the project better; we would not have completed this project. There was so much teamwork involved to create the Black Jack Tournament, collaboration was a key player in making this happen.
- Presentation: Presentation was involved in editing the footage that we shot from the Black Jack Tournament, as well as presenting it to the class. With such a responsibility, I have learned that getting as close to perfection as possible, makes a perfect presentation because you effort is evident.
- Reflection: In every project that we do in SLA, I reflect on what I have done and what could have been better. With this project, of course if I had more time the more effort toward perfection it would have been. But with the time and materials we had, we did very well. The next time I play Black Jack, or any card game, I will remember this probability project and used what I learned to win.

A xylophone is a very interesting instrument.
To play a xylophone you have two sticks made of either rubber or wood. The instrument consists of bars ranging in size from large to small. The longer the bar is, the lower the pitch. The smaller the bars, the higher the pitch. As seen in the video, this xylophone was made like a piano type instrument, where there were also bars located above the bars that are mainly played. These bars are for flat and sharp notes. They are in sets of either two or three. The sticks that are used to be played with, also, effect the sound the bars play. Harder sticks make sharper sounds, unlike with softer sticks that play more gentle sounds. The shape of a xylophone is actually pretty simple. It is shaped in a line, from larger bars to smaller bars. The sticks are normally thin with a ball shape at the top (the part of the stick that strikes the bars when a xylophone is being played). This makes me think about how you interact with a material can create sound and the size of that material may also effect it. Like on a guitar, the strings are different thicknesses. What I know about a wave, is that when energy is transferring through it, you can change how fast it pulses or how long its wavelength is. So in other words, if you play with how hard you hit an instrument, it will effect the wavelength and the frequency depends on the size of the bars.

Work For The Homeless
My previous articles discussed homelessness as a whole and their education. Now for my last article I am going to be discussing the jobs. Homeless people have a hard time finding jobs due to many problems.
The most common jobs for a homeless person are? Well let’s begin with the most opinionated answers, prostitution, selling their selves. People think that because when you enter in certain neighborhoods that are what you see, well that is what I see. I live Olney, what people call the “ghetto”, there are certain areas where the “action” takes place, and the main place is Second Street. Where the drug dealers and homeless people spend there days and nights.
If you look around that doesn’t seem much like an opinion but more like a fact, if you think about it they don’t have much time to get a REAL job. People are homeless due to many reasons; a good 65% are drugs. They only care about their next fix, so selling them selves is their answer. It is not the right one, but it is the one. On the other hand, some a good 30% are homeless due to the lost of jobs and homes. What are they supposed to do in order to get money to support them and their families?
The United States does offer shelters to help the ones in need but some people who are just too afraid to ask for help. Some shelters can help find jobs and homes, it takes time but it the best option.
Why don’t people help others instead of their selves? You don’t always come first.
