a. What went well?
-I think my group's whole process went really well, we all split up the project equally, shared our finding, and helped each other with the different topics as well. And our finished product is also really cool and informative.

b. What did not?
- There really isn't anything that didn't work out well, I think we made our point and we made some good comparisons so people could really understand how big this disaster was. We completed everything that was needed to and the whole process was actually really smooth.

c. What would you do differently next time?
- I might possibly use a different way to visualize the disaster, instead of a slide with words and pictures maybe find another way to express what happened. Maybe even something more creative.

I definatly think our inforgraph covered all of these Because it was very clear and informative and easy to understand. Not only did we give some facts but we added pictures so that the people who looked at it could understand what everything looked like and it just gave them a really good visual representation. My favorite part that really sticks out and brings this together, I think, is the part where we compared the amount of sludge to the different places. It really helped people understand the amount of sludge that was there and make a lot of people go "DANG!".  So I think the whole infograph really hits those topics well.

a. What went well?
Our collaboration with the information we found and the creation of the visual itself went well for our group. We didnt really have any problems or disagreement.

b. What did not?
Nothing really went wrong with our project it was swell.

c. What would you do differently next time?

Next time i would look up more information about my topic. Just to have more sources to pull from. I would also organize our bibliography differently.

I think our project was creative, attractive, different, visual, smarter, concise and accurate. I am not as sure about the transparent aspect of our infographic but i do know that it meets all of the other requirements. Our idea was originally supposed to be different but I think it turned out well. I especially like the way we mixed our information in with the way our design, I think that is one the best parts of our infographic. The only part of our project that was a bit difficult is the way we created it. Since we made it in photoshop we had to make sure that it did not turn our too pixelated when we uploaded it.

A day in the life "Somalia"

A day in the life of a Somalia Child

Somalia has one of the most troubled histories of any “modern” country. After World War 2 the country gained independence from Britain and with that fell into communism relatively quickly. This communism eventually led to a dictatorship that would ravage the country economically. Fed up with the countries state of affairs a Civil war began between the countries people and its government. This war disrupted food distribution between the country and further damaged the already staggering economy of the country. Hundreds of thousands left the warring country and what remained at the end of the conflict was a very torn apart country devoid of any true rule system. Piracy is openly committed by some of the poorer members of the country as a way to supplement supplies that its country is lacking. What effect this has on the countries children is massive.

Children can attend one of 722 classrooms set up throughout the country. A child can go to school for the initial 8 years of grade school and may progress into secondary school if they so choose. Children are taught geography, math, and English as well as agriculture and Arabic. Lessons last 36 to 40 minutes.  Somali has seen an increase of 27% attendance in recent years. Higher education is largely private with options in the hundreds as to where to attend.

Health care in Somalia is somewhat slippery.  One in 10 children will die in childbirth. 70% of the country goes about un inoculated which is reflected in the average life span of a somolian being 47.

One special problem facing the children of Somalia is the Prevalence of child Soldiers. The U.N has fought with Somalia several times over its refusal to stop the use of Child Soldiers.  The children are conscripted at age 8 and are deployed around age 12. Somalia uses these children as disposable attackers in various conflicts. Something disturbing to note is the U.S funds the Somalian military and recently has had to take steps to assure they were not the ones funding the children.

a. What went well?
-What went well was the amount and quality of the research we discovered.  Each of us was given a certain part of the project to research and each of us found high quality reliable resources.

b. What did not?
-Because most of us were doing individual research and it was all put together by one person, while presenting we were a little unorganized.  However by the second time we had everything together and could tell our story.

c. What would you do differently next time?
Maybe during the making of the infograph everyone would be a little more part of the creation process.

Which of these areas did you excel in? Which were not so well represented? Why do you think some elements of design were easier or harder to include in the end product?

I believe we excelled in being concise, visual, smarter, different, accurate, attractive, varied, and creative.  Maybe not so much in the transparent and gracious.  Mostly because I am not sure how to be gracious in an infographic.

A day in the life

A Day in the life

The life of a 12 year old in Honduras is similar to mind when I was 12 years old but there is a slight difference. There life is mainly based on there education level. In Honduras, when a 12 year old wakes up then they are expected to go to school but a lot of things get in the way of that such as, if the child's family is poor, there is limited food for the child to eat, there's a high percentage that there might not be running water (so no shower or teeth brushing), and transportation is "by foot". Because of the lack of schools, little staff members, and cost for material needed for school, the majority of children between the age of seven and fourteen don't go. If the child can not go to school he/she spends most of there day searching for necessary for the house. A 12 year old in Honduras has more to bring to the table then a 12 year old in America which is pretty much themselves.

I sort of expected Honduran children to be in school but I didn't expect so many of them to drop out or not complete there primary education. Based off of my information as to what a 12 year old does, i think that when that child turns forty then they would search for a adult education and try to pursue a dream of theirs. They would probably hitch a ride to another country and search for a better opportunity to better their life. What will have stayed the same is there ability to hunt for what they need and what will change is there results. They would have a lot more options now that they are older.
