Quarter 1 - Artist Statement - Brittany Cooper

I must say when I signed up for senior art, I had every intention that this class would be BEYOND boring. I seriously had a change of heart. From the time Mrs. Hull gave the a timed schedule to working on each piece I knew this was going to be a good year. Every class period songs are played to inspires the mood of the room. Having art allowed me to share and express my talents not only through paints but musically as well.

Having to mix colors for my ceiling tile would be my biggest challenge. The first piece, The Code Name: Kids Next Door. I used vibrant colors to highlight and make each character stand out. The Charcoal Still Life was a difficult piece because I had to create a line a focus to incorporate all of the piano keys. Glittering the pumpkin was pretty easy. I used a light colored paint to insure that you see the pink glitter but also draw attention to the under tone. The self portrait, was a bit of a challenge. I say this because I have such around face and high check bones, that it was hard for me to get every detail. Making it evenly proportioned was also a tricky part, but I managed to get it done.

My favorite piece of art would be my personal painting, which I did on a ceiling tile. It was a good idea not to prime the ceiling tile because it gave it a natural look. To get the texture of her hair, I dampened a dishwashing sponge. Dipping the sponge in paint, in a circular motion, I created the highlighted curls in her hair.  I must say when I signed up for senior art, I had every intention that this class would be BEYOND boring. I seriously had a change of heart. From the time Mrs. Hull gave the a timed schedule to working on each piece I knew this was going to be a good year. Marking Period 1 Art

For the first quarter in Senior Art, we had a couple pieces that we got to create. The most important thing to remember while doing these pieces was that we had to make it our own, put our own spin on it. There was a lot of space for making our own decisions on what we wanted to do. Everything that I made was something that I thought was. I created things that I cared about. I have never really had to do anything like this before, so I think that all of this art that I created was me just having fun.

Senior Art, Quarter One Portfolio

In this class we had a lost of works of art that we had to create, but the subjects of these works were largely up to us. These pieces exhibit a variety of mediums and artistic styles. Creating this portfolio allowed me to step out of my artistic comfort zone. I did some work with pencil like I'm used to, but also worked with paint, charcoal and pastel. i also created things that i was used to creating, but not used to calling art, like my costume and jack-o-lantern.

Any opportunity I had, I included animals in my art work. When I draw independently, I usually draw animals. I feel focussing on drawn people limits myself to just one species. Their's something mysterious and unknown about animals that makes me want to capture them in art. I think my animal art reveals something about animals, more than just what they look like, but other aspects about them. I am proud of my pencil self portrait though, but that's because I have a lot of experience with pencil, and I've drawn myself kore than I've drawn any other person, so it is easier.

#6 Reflection

A few days ago we watched a video called I am a witness.  The video was about Jack a little boy who was getting bullied. You had the option of stopping it by pressing the eye. If you did press the eye then the bullies would be nice to him.   He went thought out his day until he went home and they told him was was not worth anything on line.  It made me think not just of bullying in person more cyber bullying.  Since you can press the eye for cyber bullying that was to represent that you can stop it.  It just not being stopped.  The video makes you want help.  If you don't see it then you forget what you hear. Subconsciously ignore what bad. That why trolls get away with it most of the time. Since untill it happens people ignore it. Since they don't want to see it.

Online Identity Larrabee

1) We watched an interactive video about bullying where you could choose whether the kid was bullied or not. At the end, the kid was harassed online as well as at school.
2) The kid has no escape from the bullying he receives at school as he's still bullied online.
3) I never really associate with people I don't know online and I don't do any social media. I try to talk with random strangers as little as possible. When I do, I try to be polite and respectful.
4) Other people hopefully see me as just another random guy on the internet. I prefer to keep a low profile.
5) Internet trolls just want to piss people off.
6) The positive is that you can choose to remain unknown if you wish which is nice. The downside is that people feel they can say whatever they want because no one knows it's them.

1. Today in class we watched a video the supported an anti bullying campaign. The video was a cartoon that depicted the life of a child, who gets bullied everyday at school, online, and outside of school.

2. It makes you think about how cruel bullying is and how easy it is to bully.

3. I only have one picture of myself online, and it's a picture for a resume I submitted for a summer camp I worked at.

4. I do not think people have much information to judge me on because it's only one picture.

5. The goal of internet trolls is to make someone feel bad. The troll then feels better because they have ruined the day for the person they've trolled.

6. The positive results of anonymity on the internet is that people have some privacy and secrecy among these large websites. The major negative result is people can troll people online and they will not be caught so they’re in the clear.

1. In class we watched a video on the abusive effects on bullying.
2. Video exposes you to harmful way bullying anyone and everyone.
3. Online I have multiple youtube comments, School Blogs and Swimming stats.
4. People may think I am a very active person if they just see the many websites that pop-up.
5. Internet trolls feed off of the negative energy of others, they will constantly find ways to aggravate the victim.
6. Anonymity is kind of like a shield that guards your personal identity but people can abuse that power like an internet troll.

Who am I ONLINE Reflection- Rivera, Lily

1. In class, we watched a video on iwitnessbullying.com about a little boy who was being bullied by people at his school.
2.I think this video really shows how bad bullying can be for some people and how it can also affect people. The whole 'clicking the eye' thing shows how you can help someone who is bullied and how you can change it by just being nice to them.
3. On online, I appear not as myself, but as a lot of other people. A lot of famous actresses come up with either the same last name or the same first name. I appear to either be a famous actress or a random person on Facebook.
4. They probably think that I am an actress or something of the sort.
5. The goals of internet trolls is to get a reaction our of someone or a group of people for their entertainment.
6. Positive results of online anonymity are a small/temporary feel of reassurance that no one will know who you are when you say horrible things on the internet to other people or post private things about yourself. Negative results of online anonymity are when you find out that someone is smart enough to look up your IP address and figure out who you are, and when someone actually finds your posts and find out it's you who is saying/doing bad things.

In class, i thought the video that we watched was very eye opening it made me aware of the struggles kids go through noadays with all the bullying and things as such. The activity about the emoji made me understand that in any bullying case, there is always something I can do about it. The video brings to mind back in middle school when I used to get made fun of and it just brings back old memories.

Online, I hope that I am seen as a very classy person. I never post anything inappropriate because I know it can come back to bite me. I think people perceive me like I would like to be perceived because I don't out anything online that I would not want people to see.  The goal of internet trolls is to put people down and bring down there self esteem by ridiculing them based on there appearance online, which is none of there business. Positive result of online anonymity is that no one will get physically hurt but negative effects would be that people's feeling are getting.

Art

When I started these assignments, there was no real goal. I don’t think there actually is any huge symbolic meaning to them at all.

To be honest, most of what I did was pour myself into the art, my interests, my hobbies, my awkwardness, whatever.

And with being basically raised with the internet, and coming to SLA, I have discovered that there are a lot of people like me.

I want to be relatable to these people, and… reach out to them. Make them smile a tiny bit when they see my art. Make them laugh, and cringe in a sort of not sympathy that comes with understanding.

I want to laugh a bit with my friends about that one time I spent four hours painting a pony head and putting it on the ceiling, or the other time I just sat alone in health, and decided that drawing cats was a higher priority than doing actual project work.

I want to be comfortable with myself, which I’m not always, and art makes it fun and lighthearted sometimes.

This is what’s going on inside my head.

My goal for each assignment given was to put my own spin into as well as have it relate back to my personal interest. The first art piece is my ceiling tile. As a comic book and super hero fan, I am constantly asked one question "Marvel or DC". I could never decide. All that comes to mind is a future movie saga of Marvel Universe vs. DC Nation. What better design for the assignment of making a ceiling tile that will be seen as long as the school continues at this building than my fan art poster? My process to design this poster was to first get a rough design digitally. I first found a cool Marvel logo and a cool DC logo. I then found a fancy "VS" sign. I then made a rough sketch on the tile using horizontal  and vertical lines to allow me to have straight lines of words and an origin. To finish the sketches before I painted. i made series of lines and drawing from my original four lines. My next piece was a free draw. i choose to use this assignment to create a title for a play I am working on; "The Slithering Snake, The Abiding Angel & The Innocent Soul". The key items from the play is a snake, a gun, and a ribbon with the name Emily Johnson written on it. The process for this drawing to me about 3 hours. I first drew 4 different guns on sheets of paper, 3 different snake poses on another, and 7 different ribbon folds. Once I found the proper gun, snake pose, and ribbon fold, i then drew each of the three items three more times very lightly. Next I brain stormed how I wanted them to connect. Once I came up with a concept I then drew each item on separate pages with missing spots where the other items will cover. In a way I used layers to draw my final picture. My self portrait is the next work of art in my slide show. I started out with drawing my head and dividing it into sections to make out my eyes, nose, and mouth. From there I focused on small features such as my cheeks and complexion for shading. Next I focused on hair, I drew my hair line and shaded my hair. I drew my eyebrows, mustache, small beard, and side burns and shaded them in. Finally I drew my glasses, headphones, and shirt. My final piece is cut outs of bats. I could have taken a route of making them look close to a normal bat but instead I decided to make batman bat symbols.

  1. WE watch a cartoon get bully online because he didn't fit in with the cool kid so the cool kid choose to go online and try to cyber bullying because he was home and they couldn't house just to make them self feel better.
  2. I feel that people only bully because they know that life won't be anything so why not do the same with someone else.
  3. Online i appear to be a person who unknow because i really don't speak social media.
  4. I think people see me as kid who don't speak that much or not that so much fun.
  5. The goal of internet troll is stop them and make friends.
  6. The positive is that they aren't beating them or physically hurt the person and the negative is that  they still hurt the person without caring.                                                                                                                                             Link to the Picture https://www.flickr.com/photos/keithallison/5493678758

Quarter 1 Artwork

In the first slide the character 2D from the music group Gorillaz has been recreated on a ceiling tile. The character is mostly silhouette except a few pieces of him which are cartoonish. The hardest part of this piece was blending the different shades of blue to make a gradient effect.

The second slide is a drawing of a woman drawn in pencil with color starting from a focal point and spreading over her face. I based the woman's face off of a picture that I found online, then I added in splashes of color using colored pencils.

In the third piece I used construction and tissue paper to make origami pumpkins. To emphasize that the pumpkins were in fact meant to be pumpkins I cut out a pumpkin shape on the surface of the origami pumpkins. When making the bats I cut out their silhouettes using black construction paper and hung them up with string to make it look as if they were really flying.

On the fourth slide is a self portrait. I made it very simple drawing very little detail. I wanted to get a very stripped down version of my face, devoid of details.

In tech class we watched a video from the I am a Witness Campaign. The video talked about a boy that was being bullied. When you looked at the boy, you could see how upset he was and it was then when I felt a connection to him, I could see the pain in his eyes and it really touched me. But, there was this eye emoji, and when you pressed this emoji you helped the boy out. The topic reminds of me of different situations of Cyber Bullying which I have read on the internet. Online, my name is known as a political reporter who is pretty well-known. I think it's hard for people to perceive me because it's hard to find me due to this other guy. Their goal is to make you feel like you're not as good as them, they want the pleasure of feeling superior when deep down they're less then them. One positive thing is the privacy, you're able to say things and feel comfortable because you know that people won't know who said it. One negative thing is that people would just not know who you are.

Quarter 1 Senior Art

This first quarter of art has been good and has given me an outlet to express my creativity through art. Art class for me has been a time to work and relax unlike my other class which are more difficult and stressful. In art class I have learned some more history through assignments and have learned some new techniques. Through art class my painting skill have improved as well as my ability to draw.

In art class we had multiple assignments. We had complete a painted ceiling tile, a sketch, self portrait, charcoal drawing, jack lanterns, and a drawing of our choice. These assignments were fun to do unlike tackling all the school work and college preparation that comes along with senior year.

Out of all the assignments I did so far this year my favorites are the ceiling tiles. They’re my favorites because I had the freedom to put on the tiles whatever I wanted to . Therefore I got to paint my favorite two cartoon characters, Spongebob and Woody and have them displayed in a place where everyone in the art room can see.

Quarter #1 Artwork

Its another year of art and I wanted to continue what I did last year. I know it is the same exact course as last year but it will be a great opportunity to improve from last year. These were the projects I did for this first quarter….

Ceiling Tile: This was my favorite project. I really love to paint. I decided to go with an SLA type tile, by creating the main key about the school, which is the rocket. I love how the colors stand out in all of his paintings. I feel great on how it came out. I like the the kind of colors I used. My favorite part is the fire. It doesn’t look like an ordinary fire take off. I just wanted to be creative and take it my own way.

Drawing of anything I want to draw: As of last year I really wanted to continue my legacy of pencil drawings. It’s funny my girlfriend inspired me to do something with a heart in it. So I decided to do a heart and flower type mix. I enjoyed using different shades of pencil.

Jack-o-lantern: Its another pencil drawing because, like I said last year I like to make pencil drawings. The jack-o-lantern has an evil look. As you can see I decided to make different patterns on the jack-o-lantern because I wanted to be creative and have fun with, after all I am the artist.

Self Portrait: I was able to draw myself again. This year was totally different because one I had longer hair, and two I’m wearing a hat in the photo. Personally I like this portrait better because I think I look better with longer hair.

In conclusion I enjoyed redoing this course again because I know it will be a great year and a fun and relaxing time!

First ILP Class

For my ILP I am taking a Law Class in school. So far the law students talked about the amendments and real life situations. Then we gave real life examples and how we would personally act on those situations. It is very interesting and it really gets us thinking because we talked about things we could use if we get into those situations. I'm really enjoying my ILP and I hope I get to learn more about law.

I still don't have an ILP

No I still do not have an ILP. I have been emailing Jeremy. Jeremy has got in the way of me not having an ILP. I may be getting an ILP , working with Kindergartners.  I have been doing everything I was supposed to do meeting with Jeremy, talking to other schools and I just received an email and I may be starting an ILP next week.
